Had the pleasure of seeing Elizabeth Ritacco and Sam McLellan in the Anastasia tour last night and man, I loved their portrayals and chemistry SO much. The tour really amped up the amount of Dimya moments and I was so here for it.
I also loved the added spunk of Lizz’s Anya. She did a wonderful job of showing Anya’s lost soul, but not heart. With her vulnerable moments also comes the courage and feistiness of Anya when she feels she needs to defend herself. Her characterization was such a welcomed change to what I’m used to seeing. Her line delivery during certain moments changed the feeling of the dialogue in a really fun and interesting way. Her Anya feels a little more sure of her character despite being so lost. She truly gave it her all in delivering emotional impact, you could feel her seething anger at Dmitry after Everything to Win and it stung. I’m not really sure how to describe the vibe of her Anya, but it felt so new and exciting to me. You could tell she really studied the character and made it her own!
And Sam’s Dimitry. Oh my god. He was the perfect balance of youthful energy and slightly condescending shadiness. His Dmitry seems like he knows how shitty the world around him is, and is just playing the game all while making it as enjoyable as he can. Using humor to distract from the chaos around him. I loved watching his and Bryan’s (Vlad) small moments of camaraderie throughout the show, and his little reactions to Anya throughout caught my eye (watching him mouth "I don’t know her!" to Vlad before In My Dreams made me smile for some reason). Watching Dmitry grow throughout the show, becoming more genuinely caring towards Anya and simply happier was a joy. Everything to Win was lovely to watch—the culmination of fear, anxiety, and longing could really be seen in that moment. His Dmitry really played into the use of humor as a distraction during that, a nice nod to the beginning where it’s basically written into the lyrics of Rumor in St. Petersburg. The ending where he finally stands still and faces the truth really stuck with me after it all, and I think he might’ve even teared up in that moment. Loved the boyish excitement and investment into making Dmitry’s development a focus. I’m a Sam McLellan Dmitry stan now.
Their portrayals matched together so wonderfully, and it could really see why the two characters fell in love. They really clicked during the dance sequence in Learn To Do It, and feel like different sides of the same coin. Both stubborn and filled with spunk, lots of times starting to bond with each other in unexpected ways only to both pull back when it starts to get intimate. Two characters with similarities that play into each other so well, as well as having differences where each character provides the other something they haven’t had. Anya having someone to provide her comfort in her struggle, showing her she can be proud of who she is despite seemingly coming from nothing, and Dmitry finding someone he can be vulnerable with, that shows him that life is more than materialistic values and money, and being with the people you love means more than anything you could buy. So many more moments felt pivotal in building their relationship, and no line felt wasted by either actor in progressing it.
Anyways. Lizz Anya and Sam Dmitry supremacy. I will never shut up about them. Do talk to me about them if you want.

hello its the anon who saw book of mormon back. it was REALLY good! prob one of the best experiences of my life actually. it was the first "real" show i ever got to see, and im sooo happy it was bom. cast was sam mclellan as kevin, sam nackman as arnold, berlande as nabulungi and sean casey flannagan as mckinley. for some reason they came to my city instead of the capital city (dont ask me why but WIN) and my friend just so happened to have two tickets and invite me. they were like "im going u should come!!!" and i was like "great how much are tickets" "i have two" "oh thats cool. do u know the website i can buy them at" "i got them to take a friend" "........thats nice" "omg. anon do you want the extra ticket" "YES SORRY DIDNT WANT TO BE RUDE" so i got to see it for free as well which was very nice cos im broke atm. biggest notable thing i can think of was that they changed "listen to the fat white guy" to "listen to the whi-ite guy" and that mckinleys helldream costume was COOL. 99% of everything looked like broadway though. the set was nearly the exact same, costumes were lovely, barely any changes to stuff and the stage decorations itself were p much perfect to how they look on broadway it was GORGEOUS. the guy who played mckinley though was perfect, got his character down to a TEE. also took the "kinda canon crush on price thing" into account which made the interactions they had hilariously perfect.
but yeah its made my old love for it kick right back up again and im currently writing a fanfic sigh. theres like no fic content for it and even less that cater to my needs so here i am 🤍 but yeah. thank you for asking about it ive been wanting to scream about it

Just got back from seeing TBoM in Chicago IT WAS SO AMAZING!!! The casting was just so perfect and Berlande is my fav Nabalungi EVER she’s so talented and sam nackman and sam mclellan were just PERFECTLY casted I could talk about it for ages. It was all so amazing in person and I’m so glad I could catch it on tour!!

working on my Anastasia 2NT review (which is going to be too long, I’m sure) but I just want to say
The Anastasia 2NT is proof that having competent actors who know how to actually connect with others on stage and work with mediocre material to boost it can completely alter your perception of experiencing a show, particularly one with significantly flawed writing.
Sam McLellan somehow almost 100% transcends the horrible way that Dmitry written is on stage, and Kyla Stone’s chemistry with him was probably as close as the stage version will ever get to the 1997!Anastasia/Dmitry dynamic because of all their added physical banter, expressions, and overall growing warm demeanor towards one another which went SO far in downplaying the huge issue of stage!Dmitry being a massive jerk towards Anya for 95% of the show.

It just works. it clicks. It's almost disconcerting.#I didn't even remember all my issues with Dmitry until the Dowager Empress scene#and even then he didn't play it as nasty#because he was so earnest and because you felt his emotions towards Anya way way way before In a Crowd of Thousands#it was more like. dmitry kidnapping an old woman levels of mean.#instead of oh jfc sit down Stage!Dmitry mean

"Five men have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of the two young Edmonton girls who were recently restored to their homes, three being arrested Friday in Edmonton and two at 8 o'clock yesterday in Fort Saskatchewan by Inspector Campbell. They were brought up in the police court this morning, their names being as follows: D. McLellan and Sam Woods, who were charged with seduction; R. L. Williams, charged with attempted rape; Jas. L. McCormack, charged with indecent assault, and Edward McLellean, charged with seduction. They were represented respectively by Messrs. B. Pratt, Collinson, H. H.Robertson and H. A. Mackie. Magistrate Byers remarked that in view of the gravity of the charges he could not accept any but substantial bail-namely, $1,000 for each of the accused and two sureties each of $500 each. The case was remanded to Monday."
