last art this year

was supposed to be for pride month but— ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── 𝓉𝑜 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒷𝑒𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒻𝓊𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒.

some lore surrounding these two that is too long overdue but 🤷‍♂️

not as detailed and rambly as i’d like it to be, but i’m really burned out and i’m trying to get back to it🧍‍♂️

nevermind it’s pretty rambly lol

all the way back in 2038 Vincent and Ray, after dating for around two years, agreed to leave California together on august 21st — Ragan’s birthday; it was supposed to be his birthday gift of sorts, a start of a new chapter, new life;

buuut Vince, being a little shit teenager, got cold feet (in Ray’s eyes, Vince always justified that as being rational) and ditched him last minute, not showing up in their agreed spot, making Ragan leave on his own after hours of waiting.

this caused Ray to despite his own birthdate, it always reminding him of the heartbreak and betrayal. 🧍‍♂️

Vincent has felt guilty ever since, but firmly believed it was the right choice. he was never fit to live a nomadic lifestyle at such a young age.

four decades later their paths cross again and a long healing journey ensues.

so now this date is pretty bittersweet to both of them 🧍‍♂️ but it gets better overtime

basically right person, wrong time

although i think if they did ran away together then, it wouldn’t have ended good at all 🤷‍♂️ with Vince still being pretty immature emotionally, still struggling with some inner personal things (family stuff, internalized homophobia, etc.) and not familiar with the nomadic culture and ways of living. they’d probably get in bad fights more and more as the time would go on, and eventually split. Vince would’ve decided to go back to Night City probably (if he ever would make it back) and they’d never end up back together has they met in the future.

their separation allowed them to grow and mature on their own, in their own familiar environments, experience different things, and after they met again, after all those years, they put their feelings and mutual attraction to the test

and it turned out they still want each other even with all the imperfections 🧍‍♂️(i’m not crying you are) they could lie all they want but their brain chemistry couldn’t. Vincent never loved someone they way he loved Ragan, and Ray never quite felt the same way with anyone else like he felt with Vince. there was always something missing, something not quite right. and while they could tell each other they’re looking for something too far out of their reach, that they’re looking for a too perfect partner, in reality they always just wanted each other 🧍‍♂️

they still have a lot to work on together in their relationship, but now that they’re too old for teenage fights and too tired for heartbreaks, they make compromises and their fights make their bond and their understanding of one another stronger 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️

like we acknowledge that Vince did a shitty thing by ghosting Ray, going no contact and being a puss, too scared to man up, and tell him face to face ‘hey i can’t go, this type of thing ain’t for me’. he didn’t want to acknowledge that, saying that out loud, or even in his mind, would make that real and that scared him. he was definitely a teen who’d rather avoid doing something he wasn’t comfortable with to not experience the uncomfortable feelings altogether. the avoidant type we all know and love 🧍‍♂️

and yet Ray still chose to love him 🧍‍♂️ he’s definitely like ‘this man’s trash but he’s *my* trash’. Vince gets better eventually after Ray finally gets through his thick ass skull.

but also i’m not gonna sit here and say Ragan fixed Vince coz that wasn’t the case 🤷‍♂️ this is not a ‘i’m gonna fix him’ type of situation. Ragan wasn’t and isn’t perfect either, his perspective was kinda askew as well; can’t quite describe it as i haven’t psychoanalyzed him as much as Vincent but they’re both flawed, make mistakes left and right and learn from that (sooner or later) like human beings 🧍‍♂️

but in the end they’re just old men in love

I decided to do this for Valen and honestly that sort of tracks for him FKEHDJS only a little, I promise that he's not an actual murderer. I know he's canonically a headhunter for 50% of his job but that's different <3 I could see him being the anti-hero in a horror movie, the one who's suspected of being the killer, but to be the actual killer? Maybe only if you really piss him off and did something to deserve killing. Because he is a violent little guy. But he also doesn't kill for fun. What I'm saying is that I loved this and I loved imagining Valen in this kind of scenario fhfhdhsks now I'm going to be thinking about it for a while, the silliness consumes me

Was there ever a choice? Maybe, but that fork in the road is far, far behind you. You surround yourself now with sharp things, tools to harm, and they have become your only family. You are the thing that goes bump in the night, and you hunt for scurrying mice like a hungry cat. Maybe, just maybe, though, one can finally put an end to your hunt, and allow you to finally rest.

The choice back then was "simple"; become one of them, or die alone in the desert or killed by the hands of his "saviors".

He tried really hard to keep his hands clean, even tho they were already dirty with the death of his Bakker family. It was an accident, but.. an accident that he caused, whenever he wants it or not.

He almost gave in the temptation, killing, torturing... others had fun doing it, maybe he could enjoy it? maybe? He betrayed his clan, might as well embrass being a Raffen He never tried, he never wanted to, he was forced to kill, to defend himself sometimes, it was never pleasant.

But that changed... in Night City Killing murderers? rapists? pedophiles? Everything the Wraiths were and so much more, he never thoughts the city folks could be worse than them- Killing monsters, that he enjoyed. Maybe he had it in him after all

Yvonne loves with everything she has, she's clawing for it, aching for it. She'll set herself ablaze again and again just for a single scrap to be given in return. In Maelstrom, she’d do anything for the attention of others, even if she didn’t want it, she needed it. She was the performer in the center of the ring, swallowing fire and pretending that it wasn’t burning her from the inside out. Her past partners took no heed to the blaze in her chest, adding to the flame but failing to tend to it. They poured gasoline just to watch her burn, only to be caught up in the inferno's wake.

Now she is embers and scars, lingering heat and pain, too afraid to touch or be touched for fear it hurts them both. She tries to tend to herself on her own but she just doesn't know how. Scars are haphazardly wrapped, more hidden than healed, and the fire is burned too hot too fast and burnt out just as quickly.

She can’t do it on her own, but now she doesn’t have to. Now she has a gentle hand to guide the matches away and tie the bandages tight. The scars are cared for and the embers in her chest reignited. With just a little bit of work that flame can be turned into a hearth, safe and warm for the both of them.

a knife to your back is your first memory– it will also be your last. you cannot help but let things into your heart, such is your nature. time and time again, however, they hurt you and leave you to rot. but your heart remains open, and you continue to let more in. is it kindness, at that point, or is it sacrifice?

Ahh, I see 😭 how do these things always come back around to love? It's almost like Valen's entire violent, blood-soaked existence is because he so desperately wants to be loved and doesn't know how to separate pain and violence from love anymore. The reason why I like this result is because he's opened up his heart so many times to the wrong people, begging them to love him back. They didn't, and he'd be sacrificed yet again for their own needs. But Valen keeps trying, even as he's hurt and aching, his heart remains open. That's the thing about him - as many times as he's been torn into and sacrificed, he still looks for a warm place to sleep. As bad as he can be, as aggressive and as brutal he can get, he still hopes that one day someone will love him and he won't need to be a weapon as a means to keep them around. He hopes that finally someone won't lay him out on an alter to their own selfish wishes and cut out his heart in front of him (spoiler, he did find that person and he does heal).

𝔙𝔢𝔰𝔭𝔢𝔯 𝔎𝔦𝔫𝔩𝔞𝔴 - 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔉𝔦𝔫𝔞𝔩 𝔊𝔦𝔯𝔩

you're very tired, aren't you? thrashing and fighting and trying to survive– it has taken its toll, but that has not stopped you. you'll continue to gnaw and scream and bare teeth until you can free yourself from this mess, even if it means being the last one left. there is rest at the end of this hard battle, i promise you. there is a time when the fight will be over– but fighting is all you know, isn't it?

Yeah 🥺 Vesper's life, much like his brother's, has just been one long fight - a fight to not be like Callen, a fight to prove himself, a fight to survive. Vesper didn't have it easy, growing up and rebelling and then quickly realizing how far he'd fallen but it's too late to turn back because now he needs to be the thing he tried so hard not to be just to make it out alive. He's had it rough. As boyish and silly and carefree as he can be, Vesper has the same dark shadow following him that Valen does. He has a harder time coming to terms with the things he's done, but he needs to do them anyway. One day, all of that will spill over and Vesper may be just as dangerous as his brother is.

Valentin can also be reaaally stubborn and jealous at time!

He's a sensible boy, often dealing with mood swings; you could talk with the usual bubbly, sunny Val' in the morning and get hit with a brooding, cold gaze in the after-noon, all because he overheard some gonks talking about his past as a wraith, or because he couldn't figure out what wasn't working earlier during his shift.

Everyone knows that Valentin's filters totally vanish when drunk, but his lack of tact can be noticeable during certain sobber conversations- he can be clumsy with his words, and hurt people unintentionally.

He does not forget, nor forgive; he holds grudges passively, not letting it ruin his life more than it already did in the past, but bringing up those subjects can make Valentin spiral down in his own memories for some time until he brooms them back where they came from.
