Summary Poor FL died from overwork. In her previous life she was a children’s clothing designer. So of course, when she wakes up as the stepmother to SUPER CUTE Snow White Blanche, it’s like she struck the lottery! Too bad this new, beautiful person has a horrible case of Resting Bitch Face / Evil Villainess Smirk. TW for the King’s backstory which was so triggering that tapas even gave the option of skipping it entirely and providing a quick summary. The actual main plotline is quite fluffy and cute so it actually is pretty jarring.

i love love love the emphasis that their relationship as family is getting. i love that their platonic feelings for each other are getting the same amount of importance as romantic ones get in other comics. i love that them becoming family is treated with so much care and weight, as an important event in and of itself. yes they will almost certainly develop romantic feelings for each other in the future (this is a romance comic after all) but as of right then and there, their platonic feelings aren't treated as lesser or just a stepping stone towards their romance but as something worthy to be acknowledge and cherished just by themselves.

and i especially love that it's those platonic feelings that ultimately allow sabrian to free himself of one of the last holds his horrible mother had over him.

now he has a family that actually loves him, that cares for him and wants him to be happy, in abigail's case not because they're related by blood but because they chose to care for each other, and that's more important to him that whatever family tie he had with his mother.

i just think it's neat when people choose to be family and when platonic love is treated as equally important to romantic love it makes me happy <3

i think it's very easy to miss the first time one reads this moment but like,,, now knowing sabrian's backstory and what he went through i believe this is actually a much more important moment for him than it initially looks like.

cause like,,, sabrian has been abused and forced to do things he didn't want to do by the people (specifically women in fact) in his life since he was a child and it's always been about them using him to be more powerful, to get more influence, it's always about them and their interests.

and then here's abigail and she also wants something from him but,,, it is not for her. it's not political, it's not about power, it's not even about them as a couple. she just wants him to eat with his daughter.

and she's being stubborn and not backing down and not willing to compromise any further and it's,,, it's actually kinda funny. he can laugh about it. for maybe the first time in his life he's being pushed by someone and it's not something that's hurting him. it's something he can laugh about and find amusement in.

and like,,, that's how normal relationships are! you can't have a relationship where you're always in agreement, sometimes you can't do everything you desire to, sometimes you'll be pushed out of your comfort zone, and that's okay. as long as it's not hurting you and you can find a good compromise between the parties involved then,,, there's nothing wrong with it!

which is something sabrian had never experimented before this. abigail is the first person with whom he has a somewhat equal relationship with and this is pretty much the first time he gets to experience what it feels to be able to compromise with someone who's not trying to use him.

it's pretty much the first time that he gets to laugh about it.

even before trying, abigail is already helping him to push back against his bad past experiences. she's already teaching how a normal, good relationship between equals feels like.

i love how abigail makes sure sabrian knows what he's signing up for, she doesn't go for it immediately and instead stops to really make sure he's okay with it. like yeah it's just a kiss on the cheek but!! she knows it could be triggering for him and she doesn't want to hurt him! it's such a small thing but she still asks for his consent! we love healthy communication and open discussion of boundaries in this house <33

also the fact that sabrian is so starved for affection and trusts her so much he's willing to go out of his comfort zone to get a goodnight kiss,,,, he still shakes while holding hands but he really wants his smooch,,,,, i love him <33

hey. hey can we talk about how. fucking amazing. it must've been for sabrian that abigail didn't even try to use blanche for politics. that she in fact asked for the complete opposite and is trying to protect her even from her own family.

sabrian who was used as a child by his mother, the person that was supposed to protect and care for him, who never had anyone on his side to shield him from all the abuse he went through, that is aware marrying the heir is a common, even expected, thing to do even despite the harm it causes.

he has no reason to expect abigail to think differently. as far as he knows she agreed to a loveless arranged marriage for politics sake. we later see that he thought abigail had been consulted and informed on why they married when that's not the case at all. for all he knows, while she may be kinder and be genuinely aghast at what his mother and queen miriam did to him, she may still believe sacrifices have to be made for the kingdom. she may not ask for blanche to get married as a child but she may ask for a betrothal between their families.

maybe he was worried that just as his mother made the "best decision as regent" that she could, abigail would make the best decision as princess of kronenberg.

so can you imagine his relief when it turns out that not only is abigail not asking for blanche to get married into her family, but she's asking for his help to protect her from anyone else trying to do the same. that she's not only not acting as a princess of kronenberg, or even as the queen of nerghen, but instead is acting as blanche's mother, as someone who loves and cares for her and wants what's best for her and not the politics around them.

sabrian has been trying, in his own clumsy and awkward and distant way, to protect blanche her entire life. to not let her suffer as he did. and now, for the first time, he has someone who's trying to do the same. for the first time he has someone in his family who will not only not put politics above their child, but who's willing to make a political sacrifice just to keep her safe.

for the first time he has a member of his family that he can trust and rely on
