This was one of my final posts on the watch forum, made sometime in October 2022.
Cosplaying the Present: On the Genres of Cosplay and the Genre I Choose
From Jack Forster's "Cosplay, Being James Bond, And A Theory Of Watch Collecting: Cyberpunk godfather William Gibson, and being James Bond – or his boss“ (2021):
Watches can let us cosplay, not just as real-world professionals we admire, but as fictional characters we like, too.
For an explanation about what cosplay is, if you don’t already know, Jack’s essay has you covered. The rest below will make more sense if that word means something to you. Jack also references the tending of watches as “The Tamagotchi Gesture,” which comes from Gibson’s “My Obsession,” that essay I like to point to frequently as “William Gibson’s Watch Education.” But I want to stick to cosplay in this post and I will reference another Gibson idea further along.
Even though my one watch doesn’t necessarily fill the bill, I have a general preference for watches that are rooted in the present looking forward as opposed to those fully in the past (most vintage watches), looking to the past (vintage influenced designs, like the BB58 and others even more so), or way out there scifi stuff (Urwerk and the likes). That’s why I like what I call a “flat matte aesthetic” with its unfaded (faux or otherwise) colors, often vibrant, like the Nomos Club Campus in pink or the newest Fortis Stratoliner. [See below for an image of this watch and for all the watches mentioned in this remainder of this paragraph.] It’s why I like titanium watches and watches that use materials other than the more usual suspects (steel, gold, bronze, platinum, brass), many of these have that flat matte aesthetic too, like the Hermès H08, RZE watches, the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400, Boldr watches, etc. Those first three get into “Hybrids and Blurred Lines,” that breaking of watch categories of the past by mixing things together and inventing new types even if poorly labeled. This is another glance into the future.
All of the above makes it unsurprising that I posted the F.P.Journe élégante in Titalyt (also the first photo at beginning of this post) as my “grail” today. In the case of that watch, it’s not just the category blurring, the materials, and the aesthetic (to a lesser extent than the others, but, oh, the radial numerals, I am such a sucker for those <3), but especially the internals that are very much of the day and looking forward. Go read or watch something about that quartz movement if you haven’t already. Yeah, I suppose an Apple Watch Ultra is the epitome of these ideas, but many of you all don’t even consider it a watch and I have another reason why not below, and besides I could do this. [Zooms out from the image above to the original that I cropped.]
I bet a lot of this has to do with my preferences in literature, film, and television. I am much more likely to be interested in something that is contemporary than something that is historical fiction or very future-y scifi. I like all of those things as well, but nearest future scifi is of particular interest, especially stuff like the William Gibson writing from the last couple of decades that has led to him talking about his form of scifi as being rooted in the present, that whole “The future is already here. It’s just not evenly distributed yet.”
Tim Maughan’s Infinite Detail is a similar type of science fiction.

I read Infinite Detail before I was interested in watches. As I was writing this I wondered if there are watches in it because it would make so much sense if there were, but I searched an EPUB of the book and I didn’t see any, only two references to clocks and only one of those was specific about what kind: “And the clock on the microwave is just flashing zeroes. I think we had a power outage.” Missed opportunity!
So, when I think about the watches that I most want to wear, I think I am cosplaying a future that is already here and cosplaying as an extra in that future, not the main character, and not someone with a particular trade or profession, but someone with great taste. :) There might be a hint of dystopia in there too because otherwise why not Apple Watch?
If your watch is a matter of cosplay – and it is for nearly every one of us, few exceptions, don’t be embarrassed – what genre are you playing in if you care to admit it? And what character? It might be that it’s a version of yourself that is pulled to the past or somewhere / sometime else?

A game prototype of Bukkaku in a 3D world?
It's been a long time since I last reported. A lot of things have changed, so I'd like to update you on what's currently happening with the long-running Bukkaku project, the new Ynccuth movie, and graphic design projects. For the game's problematic project with the "controversial" title, I've been thinking about a total re-working of the game and graphic concept in the last few months. As a perpetually dissatisfied creator, I'd like to tighten the concept up even and define the final fixed points as my ever-changing final idea. For a long time now, this game prototype has been over my head with its ambitious goals.
Problematic and lengthy process
The experimental game prototype of Bukkaku is a rather long and messy process. From the original naive idea in 2015 as a browser-based MMORPG, it progressed through various experiments with Top-Down view elements and a more action-oriented style to a horror isometric view with a survival story until it reached the 3D dimension in a more predatory colorful Origami "Low poly" design. My previous games have always had a clear vision from start to finish, but unfortunately with Bukkaku I'm still searching for it. This is due to the fact that I'm not happy with the ever-changing outcome, and I'm not sure if this chaotic process will have the outcome I'm hoping for. Hopefully this project can be woken up and completed successfully with a new member...
A dark cinematic story
I am currently working on my other very interesting project at the same time. It is an animated film called Ynccuth. It's still in development (and will be for a long time) and it's a horror movie with a darker stylization reminiscent of the world of Bukkaku. Just more grown up and thoughtful with a sci-fi vibe. I'm full of ideas on how to bring this dark yet enchanting fantasy world full of monsters and strong characters to life through storytelling.

this utter disaster of a social interaction would betray not only vriska's lack of understanding of human social relationships ("You're sad that adult human squatter 'mom' of yours isn't around anymore when all she did was leech off you and play dum8 mind games????????") but also a cringe-inducing level of tone-deaf projection. ("8elieve me, Lalonde, I know ha8its are a tough thing to 8reak, 8ut your lazy 8itch of a human lusus dying was the 8est thing that could've ever happened to you. You're a free 8ird! No hungry mouths to feed and you don't have to deal with the CONSTANT N8GGING anymore. So stop 8oo-hooing and 8oozing yourself into an early grave! It's fucking path8ic.")
this would have a net-zero effect on rose's addiction/recovery trajectory---immediately after, sure, she might've had a binge motivated by self-loathing, but in the long run all that would happen is rose learning not to drink where vriska might see. there would be potential for ultimately sad and destructive "games" of hide-the-bottle, resulting in disastrous animosity between the two of them, but . . . rose can just alchemize more if vriska finds/destroys her stash lol.
vriska can't fix rose's alcoholism, or anyone's for that matter. you can't make people recover, not if they're not ready to, and any positive intervention on vriska's part would be nothing but a bandaid on something that is ultimately rose's journey and character arc. it literally is not about vriska.
on the other hand, vriska's aliveness and presence on the meteor absolutely would prevent terezi's faygo dependence and relationship with gamzee. (well, if not outright preventing the gamzee thing, her presence would at least mitigate the influence gamzee had over terezi's life pre-retcon). (IF, that is, you think fridging the clown is a lazy and unsustainable solution)

Chodzi tutaj o Amerykę która w listopadzie nie spodziewała się że gdy będą ich wybory - czyli niedługo, ten provlem będzie nadal trwać że głodzony naród nie umrze przez pół roku (tak aktualnie głodzą 2 000 000 osób i jak nic się nie zmieni kazda z nich umrze)
Oczywiście niszczenie szpitali szkół i innych fundamentalnych elementów infrastruktury i kultury palestyńskiej sprawi ze nawet jeśli nie zostaną wszyscy zamordowani przez izraelskie wojska i bomby (made in USA) to ich naród jesy zniszczony - zniszczone jest to na czym się utrzymuje społeczeństwo.

Gdy odbyła się flour masakre - masakra mączna, czyli rozstrzelano wygłodzonych palestynczykow próbujących otrzymać worki z mąką z ośmiu ciężarówek i dosłownie były zdjęcia worków z mąką od krwi i zginęło 150 osób a izreal jako wyjaśnienie podał ze ci ludzie którzy od miesięcy nic prawie mie jedzą byli zagrożeniem dla wojska - super silni, z bronią i otworzyli ogień do tłumu bo się bali że tłum ich stratuje (a nawet ze ratowali ich przed wzajemnym startowaniem)
Bo nic tak tłumu nie uspokaja jak ostrzał z karabinów gdzie zginie 100+ ludzi… cześć się faktycznie stratowala zginęli walczą o mąkę, chcieli zmieszać ją z wodą i zjeść w domu bo nie jedli nic od dawna lub może pasze dla zwierząt jeżeli udało im się dostać jeszcze…
O tym nie mówiono w mediach bez echa - ani o zadnej z setek czy tysięcy zbrodni izraelskich. Btw ja się nie dziwie bo gdy mówię o tym znajomym czy rodzinie czy. Pisze posta na gdy bloga - mam świadomość ze ludzie nie maja miejsca na tak okrutne informacje, przy wojnie na Ukrainie, po covidzie itd - wszyscy maja dość.
A izreal popełnia zbrodnie tak straszliwe ze po jednym dniu ma się dość - jednego dnia jest wywiad z 8 latka której cała rodzina została zabita i zniszczono jej dom. Dzień później i ona ginie z kuli karabinu izraelskich wojsk
Przykro mi ze musieliście się dowiedzieć ze izreal dokonuje rzezi na palestynczykach ale postanowiłem wam to napisać bo wiem ze w Polsce się o tym mało mówi w mediach i tak ogólnie.
Moja mama której ja o tym opowiadam całkiem sporo dopiero tak naprawdę wczoraj gdy do polski doszły informacje o tym ze zabito tego lekarza oraz konkretniej o tym jak do tego doszło ze wojsko izraelskie dokładnie wiedziało do kogo strzela bo to były konkretne oznakowane i wielokrotnie kontrolowane ciężarówki z których uciekali do kolejnych się schować aż w końcu kule ich dopadły. To teraz nagle kazda rzecz o której jej od miesięcy próbuje mówić stała się dla niej prawda - bo to co zrobili z tymi lekarzami zrobili w identyczny sposób jak wiele rzeczy które opisałem jej wcześniej i nagle wszystko jej kliknęło - absurdalne i smutne ze dopiero gdy zmarł jeden Polak.
Ale po części ją rozumiem moje informacje ja sobie zweryfikowałem ale dla niej ja byłem jedynym źródłem mimo ze wiarygodnym to opowiadałem dość chaotycznie i taki materiał w mediach który był uporządkowany i video pewnie pokazali zakrwawione paszporty bo tego typu obrazów się używa do poruszania ludźmi - nagle to o czym mówiłem stało się dla niej żywe i prawdziwe.
Dlatego teraz mam nadzieje ze także dla was zapewniam was jeśli ktoś nadal będzie próbował wam wmówić ze to nie tak i izreal jest super niewinny bo hamas zrobił zamach (co jest prawdą - to znaczy hamas wykonał zamach ale to tyle a nie całość czyli ze są niewinni z tego powodu) to co oni robią jest tak okrutne i łamie każde mozliwe prawo międzynarodowe. Od dziś mam nadzieje będziecie wiedzieć ze takie osoby was oszukują i ze dzieje się tragicznie i tak brw mam tysiac innych rzeczy które mógłbym przytoczyć jako dowody ich celowej działalności na rzecz wyeliminowania narodu palestyńskiego (na ironie Żydzi doświadczyli tego z rąk hitlera a teraz orosze jaka historia)

Xawerego Dunikowskiego w Królikarni oddziału MNW. Wystawą "Bez gorsetu. Camille Claudel i polskie rzeźbiarki XIX wieku" w Muzeum Narodowym w Warszawie przypominane są ich dokonania.

This is a watch forum post I made sometime in May 2022.
In Praise of Hybrids, Blurred Lines, Crossed Genres, etc.
I was just watching a review of the RZE Supercompressor and one of the points made was that while this watch takes design and engineering cues from historical divers including the dial, hands, and water resistance, it also chooses to use a 12-hour bezel used with travel watches, and it is sold by RZE as a field watch.
The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 that I love has “Pilot” in it’s name and big crown, but it come across as more of a sports watch given its size and integrated-feeling bracelet, a dress watch given the simplicity of the dial, and a field watch with its titanium lightness.
While some may see these watches as an affront to history, I find them refreshing. Why do certain features need to pertain to watches of certain genres, especially now when pilots don’t use watches for their work as they once did, most dive watches barely go under water, and people’s way of dressing up has changed and continues to do so? Most watches are worn mostly as jewelry these days anyway. I’m not opposed to watches that fit neatly into well-worn paths, but I really appreciate those that take from various sources to create something new and appropriate for people looking for combinations previously unavailable. I think I am one of those people.
What are some other watches – contemporary and historical – that cross genres, look like hybrids, or blur the well-established lines? What doesn’t fit into those same-old containers?

Kupiłam hennę do rzes, która okazała się być farbką z aktywatorem do brwi... I to był błąd numer jeden.
Potem poszło lawinowo:
Zmyłam makijaż, odtłuściłam rzęsy wodą z mydłem. Oczywiście oczy podrażnione. Lewe całe czerwone. To był drugi błąd.
Trzeci polegał na tym, że zamiast odpuścić zabieg, to wymieszalam aktywator i proszek, nałożyłam na podrażnione oczy. W lewe się wlało.
