רובכם ודאי לא יודעים, אבל ב־1939 תרגם הסופר הרוסי אלכסנדר וולקוב את "הקוסם מארץ עוץ" לרוסית בשם "הקוסם מעיר הברקת" (Волшебник Изумрудного города), אלא שזה לא היה תרגום מדויק והוא ערך שינויים רבים בעלילה, בהם הוספת פרקים חדשים שלא היו במקור והמציא ממוחו הקודח, השמטת פרטים מסוימים, שינוי שם הגיבורה מ"דורותי" ל"אֶלי", תוך מתן קול דובר לכלב טוטו (מה שלא היה במקור) ועוד תיקונים רבים.

כך יצא שדוברי הרוסית לא הכירו את הגרסה המקורית של פרנק ליימן באום…

בהמשך פרסם וולקוב סדרת המשך לעוץ בת חמישה ספרים, שהיתה שונה לגמרי מסדרת הספרים שכתב באום. ספריו של וולקוב תורגמו לאינספור שפות שהיו מוכרים ופופולריים יותר ברוסיה ובמזרח אירופה מסדרת ספריו של באום…

אז הרוסים עיבדו לקולנוע את תרגומו של וולקוב והסרט החדש יגיע לאקרנים בתחילת 2025…
