Look, I just think we need to stop coddling those hedonistic roundabout hogs who get into the inner lane and circle for hours, wasting valuable capacity.
Inspiraling Roundabout [Explained]
Transcript Under the Cut
[A highway roundabout wherein all the indivudal roads join into a large spiral with a small open area in the center.]
Caption: Even though it was technically navigable, the highway department vetoed my inspiraling roundabout design.

Turning an office park into a town center
Tumblr media
The rethinking of a conventional office park, Carmel Gateway is the latest big idea to be proposed in Carmel, Indiana, the city of roundabouts.
Under the leadership of Mayor Jim Brainard, Carmel, Indiana, has been a town planning innovator for a quarter century. With almost 150 roundabouts (making it one of the safest suburban communities in the US), and the striking new Monon Boulevard planned by Speck & Associates and Gehl with landscape architecture by REA, the City has demonstrated how a car-centric community can make itself more walkable. But much of Carmel still consists of postwar commercial sprawl, raising the question of how readily such landscapes—office buildings and strip centers in seas of parking—can be transformed into more urban, inviting, and long-lasting places.

Roundabouts
The centres of roundabouts are often adorned with art installations, sculptures or landscaping. In 2006, a phenomenon began in Sweden where people began placing home made sculptures of Dogs on roundabouts.

So. Roundabouts
Well my brother in arms I am so glad you asked.
Roundabouts are a modernized version of traffic circles, a much larger, park-like area in the center of major roadways in the late 1800s and early 1900s. look up The Thomas Circle in Washington DC in 1922, that’s a very good example of early traffic circles.
The first modern roundabout was developed in 1909 in Letworth Garden County in the United Kingdom, though they did not become standardised or normal until the 1960′s.
The real push for more roundabouts began in 1966 when the british parliament adopted a rule that at all circular junctions that required entering traffic to give way to circulating traffic, causing the modern roundabout to be popularised due to the fact that it is designed to allow for oncoming traffic to yield, thus adhering to this rule, instead of having traffic already in the circle yield like older traffic circles.
The modern roundabout then spread throughout the rest of Europe in the 1970s, going first to Norway and France. France also adopted the yield-at-entry rule in 1983. The roundabout became extremely popular in norway, going from just 15 roundabout in total in 1983 to over 500 in 1992. The same thing happened in France on a much larger scale, with over 1,000 roundabouts being built in France in 1991. The Netherlands also adopted modern roundabouts at this time, the first ones being built in the early 1980s and growing from there.
Roundabouts were first introduced in the United States in the 1990s after several years of campaigning by Frank Blackmore and Leif Ourston. However, the first roundabouts were looked down upon by american residents, many people calling them unsafe and confusing despite the fact they were designed to make intersections safer. Despite this, they spread across the country, the first states to build them being Nevada, California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Nevada and Vermont. Today, 3% of the countries roundabouts are in Carmel, Indiana, (or at least according to a 2010 survey)
The first Canadian roundabout was built in 1999. They spread across the country, becoming more popular than they were in the United States, with most of the roundabouts being concentrated in Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
So yeah. That’s the history of roundabouts for you ig. Do what you will with this information.

Actually the funniest part of the entire James Somerton debacle is the response his cowriter Nick gave. For context, Hbomberguy talks a bit about Nick as a cowriter, and there is not any strong evidence implicating Nick of also plagiarizing, so Hbomberguy takes the angle of "Nick is probably not (also) responsible for the plagiarism".
Nick's response?
To claim he could not be part of the plagiarism, because he does not read. And does not do research...

SOURCE: I Fact-Checked The Worst Video Essayist On YouTube - YouTube, video essay by Todd in the Shadows.
The second screen cap is maybe a tongue-in-cheek joke... but bold choice when everyone's eyes are on you to respond to serious allegations. And this screencap doesn't include the other wishy-washy statements, pre-video, from Nick saying to the effect of "I write based on vibes. I come up with an idea and ruminate on it." For research videos. For educational videos about queer history and queer media culture.
Adds flavor to the Todd video, which goes through two-dozen examples of Somerton videos which just claim... provably factually incorrect bullshit.
This guy is a writer. An author. You could not waterboard "I don't read" out of me if I were aiming to launch a writing career.
Beating the plagiarism allegations by confidently asserting you suck too bad to ever get that far.

I love roundabouts. Its literally the best solution for car acidents and its one of the most compact intersections. Like, look at It. 8 conflict points instead of 32 from normal traffic lights/stop sign intersections. Its literally gods gift
