Rest & Reflect

[22 Weeks Out]

I temporarily pressed "pause" on training this week since I am sick and have spent a good portion of the last 72 hours in bed. Ugh, being sick feels like a waste of time!

Since I don't have any new stories to tell, I will reflect and share a few images from the past...

My first ever race was the "You Go Girl" 10k in the fall of 2011. I would like to say that I enjoyed it, but that would be a lie. I endured what felt like grueling torture. I ran -- or perhaps more accurately -- lugged my way through all five and half miles, and near the end was grateful that my leaden legs were still moving as the finish line came into sight (remember, I was pretty much the antithesis of athletic at the time).

After this joyous experience, running another race for kicks seemed like an oxymoron.

Until...

I discovered that people design shorter races where you actually get to dress up however you want (if you know me well, you know that I love a socially acceptable platform for wearing costumes and putting on a cheese for the camera... it's basically dress up for adults, which is awesome!)!

So less than one month after my grueling 10k, I signed up for the Gladiator Rock 'N Run -- touted to be uber intense with obstacles, mud, rock ‘n roll music, and all things intensely 80's. What could be more fun, right?!

I totally enjoyed this run, probably because it was shorter, it offered other challenges aside from one step in front of the other, and it was actually designed to be fun. Plus the added benefit of having an excuse to thrift shop for an ugly 1980’s blouse.

Proud of my gaudy medallion and the fact that I didn't char or scar myself jumping over the finish of flames (quite an accomplishment for me).

But then, even better than 1980's inspired rock n' run, was THE COLOR RUN that my cousin talked me into the fall of 2013.

Tutu's + my crazy-fun family + one heck of a rave after the run = awesomeness.

My official partner in crime! Where there is mischief, we follow.

The whole crew, kiddos included, had fun with this one.

Now that was a race I would do again.
