Leaving the two’s behind, it’s the start of a new episode. The best performances of the previous week get their own few seconds to shine again, as well as the two contestants who were allowed a chance of return. There will be no more chances for return and, counting with this episode, there are only three left. There’s still a lot to happen, however. The middle has only just been breached.
The public is welcomed to the set of recordings and the layout they are already used to. The thirty remaining contestants are properly separated between the two sides of the stage and, just as impressive as always, the five CEOs make their way to their seats. They look bigger up there, but their strong aura gives that impression from anywhere. Once they’re properly seated, the episode is ready to start. “Welcome, all, to the fifth episode of the Mnet Global Auditions!” Baek Jiyoung greets. The remaining contestants nod or clap in agreement before she continues.
“Let’s bring our first-ever trio to the stage, shall we?” The woman smiles. “Please come to the stage, CHOI MINHO, JEON HEEJIN, and ZHOU JIEQIONG.” The contestants do as told, walking to the center to introduce themselves. In unison, they say their team name. “Hello! We are the Royal Court!” Once they’re done, they move to their practiced positions. Before they can prepare themselves, however, the image wobbles to something different.
It’s the outside of the Sphere Entertainment building. As announced in the previous episodes, the contestants would be practicing inside camera-filled practice rooms for the public to see how they act behind the scenes. For the time being, only one person appears to be inside. When they zoom in, it becomes even more clear that it is CHOI MINHO. He paces around the room, clearly unsettled. To remind those not up-to-date on idol news, images appear of the same man debuting under that same company he was in that moment. Now, he’s only another contestant waiting for his partners to arrive.
MINHO moves towards the bag he’s brought and opens it, but the item inside it properly blurred for no one to see. It’s only when the camera focuses on the opening door that you can see what the proper reaction to it would be. His teammates, JEON HEEJIN and ZHOU JIEQIONG, enter the practice room and stop on their fit. HEEJIN’s eyes open wide while JIEQIONG tries to hold in a smile. “Heejin… should we be worried?” She asks the other. When the screen finally shows the man, he has a clown wig on top of his head. “Just one question,” JIEQIONG continues, “how long have you been sitting there like that?” He looks surprised by the question but answers it. “Long enough to put this wig on?”
“You’re an interesting guy…” HEEJIN adds before properly walking inside the room. The two girls appear without any makeup on, unafraid to show their natural looks. Time skips ahead to them in the middle of practice. HEEJIN puts on weird-looking glasses as part of their practice but, by doing so, her hair gets all messy. “Oh my god, Minho - Heejin now!” JIEQIONG gestured wildly in the other girl’s direction. “We have to protect her image! Hurry!” While MINHO moves to help HEEJIN, the other girl sticks her face in front of a camera and makes weird faces to try and save her partner’s image. It’s then that the camera freezes and an arrow points out another camera behind the girl’s head. The angle is changed and now people can see JIEQIONG going crazy in front of the camera while the man tries to fix the other’s hair. The screen quickly goes black-and-white and a text appears saying ‘image-less contestants.’
It’s like that their behind the scenes sequence ends and we’re back to the stage. A stool is set on the center of the stage with HEEJIN while JIEQIONG and MINHO move to separate sides of the stage. The younger girl puts on the glasses that act as a VR set and picks up a game controller. An announcer voice comes from the speakers saying ‘Jeon Heejin, select a song to continue.’ Their song starts to play, and it’s a mashup of two popular songs. While the other two dance, HEEJIN acts as the one who’s controlling them. That’s until they take off her glasses and the girl starts to dance along. They smile at the end of their performance. “I think we did good,” JIEQIONG comments on her interview. “It was supposed to be a fun performance so I hop everyone liked watching it.”
When the screen shows the Sphere practice room once again, the previous trio can be seen talking to each other but the camera zooms in on the other corner of the room where maybe the small DO KYUNGSOO wasn’t seen at first glance. He sits by himself far from the other group, just staring at them from afar. Time skips to when his other two partners join him: CHOI YEWON and SEO CHANGBIN. They sit in silence as well, and the scene is edited to show a rainy cloud above their heads while the other side of the room appears to live in sunshine.
They change, and the text at the bottom of the screen says ‘Day 2.’ DO KYUNGSOO enters the practice room with two boxes. He places one of them in front of his teammates while the other he pushes across the midline of separation from the other trio before running away. Inside is food which is, apparently, the best of friendship makers. Not only did the trio seemed to enjoy the quiche brought to practice, but also the team on the other side of the room. In a nice montage, the screen shows the different snacks they’ve brought for practice. In one of the cuts, KYUNGSOO is seen is CHOI MINHO’s arms as he does squat reps. They make sure to include some scenes of the trio practicing together as well just to make it clear it wasn’t all just fun.
“Working with KYUNGSOO and CHANGBIN was so much fun, though I don’t know if they would say the same.” CHOI YEWON says in her interview. “KYUNGSOO is a little quiet when you first meet him but once he warms up to you he is really easy to get along with. CHANGBIN, on the other hand, was sort of intimidating at first but after being around him for so long you realize that he’s a nice guy,  you just have to feed him.”
When they’re back on the stage, they stand with beautiful outfits. SEO CHANGBIN and DO KYUNGSOO wear red and white suits, respectively, while CHOI YEWON has a blue silk dress. “We are the Ugly Truth!” They introduce themselves before getting into position. The two men stand on opposite sides of the table while the girl sits right at the front. They prepared a stage filled with story. YEWON stands and walks around the time while she raps, stopping to hold onto KYUNGSOO but he does not react. CHANGBIN’s voice brings more strength and power unlike the soft voices before him. If you pay close attention, you notice they only move when they are singing or rapping. As the song drifts away, their sad performance also comes to an end.
With the first two performances over with, the next trio makes their way to the stage, the table that was previously there disappearing. The third trio to stand on stage is formed by KIM JUNGEUN, TAKADA KENTA, and CHWE HANSOL, all wearing bright shades of red with a hint of retro style. “Hi, we’re Triple Treat!” They introduce themselves. Wearing a smile, HANSOL continues: “It’s about to get funky.”
Nova building is shown on the screen for a second before it moves into the practice room trainees will be sharing. JUNGEUN is the first to arrive and takes her time to explore the room before it gets too crowded, visibly amazed. “Hello,” the female representative of the first trio waves at the camera. “Let’s begin!” They’re sitting together in the practice room to discuss their song. When the girl suggests doing a track from Triple H, both KENTA and HANSOL look excited and pleased with the option, so the next step is sorting out the technicalities.
At first, despite KENTA’s attempt to demonstrate the dance taking JUNGEUN’s place and teaching HANSOL, they seem to struggle because of the awkwardness between the members during the sexy parts the girl shares with HANSOL. JUNGEUN laughs at times and, KENTA, one the other hand seems to lack focus, eyes on the other group’s constant arguments. However, they persist and keep practicing together. “Don’t they look…. so pretty? I feel like I see flowers when I look over.” It’s YEJI from the other trio who says it to the camera.  HANSOL offers to help KENTA with the English lines and JUNGEUN’s with her rap portion, yet the scene is still far from ideal. Through the week, KENTA tries to keep everyone’s spirits up making faces in the mirror, interacting cutely with the camera and chatting, sometimes getting a displeased look from PARK JINYOUNG.
When they’re going over the choreography and JUNGEUN makes a small mistake, the girl laughs with frustration and the boys join in, clearly exhausted, creating a scene that looked more terrifying than funny despite the laughter resounding through the room. “You guys wanna catch a movie?” Eventually, HANSOL suggests they take a break and they all agree.  Once they’re back and other things keeping distracting the members, HANSOL approaches KENTA. “We really need you to focus. This is getting out of hand, don’t you think?” The rapper says firmly. “I can understand the jokes and the tricks and all that other stuff. It’s good for morale, but it’s only good to morale when there aren’t other things to focus on. You just seem way too distracted by what’s going on over there because of DANIEL and your is over there. It’s really becoming too much, KENTA. DANIEL isn’t a child.”
After their honest conversation, the members run through everything once again, dance and vocals put together, but the screen freezes before the first verse and returns to the trio on stage, positioned in the middle to start. HANSOL holds a charismatic expression as they kick off the performance and, even if she struggled during practice, JUNGEUN confidently displays the sex appeal the song needed. The choreography is not too complicated, but they manage to execute it well with their energy and it’s visible that their chemistry improved. They do the moves in sync. KENTA doesn’t miss the opportunity to give a sexy look to the camera, pushing a hand through his hair.  Freestyling for a bit as the song comes to an end, the trio finishes their performance well.  “We were so cool!” We hear KENTA gushing as they return to their seats. “Yeah, we’re not bad at all,” JUNGEUN says.
HWANG YEJI, PARK JINYOUNG, and KANG DANIEL are next. They place their chairs down and gather to introduce themselves. "We are the love shot!" They exclaim in unison. "Jin-" JINYOUNG shouts immediately, followed by DANIEL's "Niel-" and the girl’s "Ji!", the syllables of their names before they hold a gun pose, two of them turning their backs on DANIEL.
Inside Nova’s practice room they are sharing with the previous team are YEJI and JINYOUNG. Something looks off in the way the girl stares at her partner before she suddenly shouts: “Ah! Snow White Oppa?” The camera zooms in JINYOUNG’s expression and the editors add elements of the said Disney princess on the contestant’s face before it shatters into pieces as DANIEL walks into the room, making the atmosphere rather gloomy. The trio starts discussing their song options, but not everyone seems interested. “Daniel? Are you listening? We need your opinion on this.” JINYOUNG asks and the other’s surprised reaction says more than words. “For now you don’t even need ideas, we just want to know what you think of these songs.” It’s clear by his tone that JINYOUNG is losing his patience, especially when DANIEL mentions his friends’ eliminations. In the end, they all seem to agree on Love shot and choose to put some twists on it.
“i let my emotions get the best of me,” DANIEL admits in an interview. “I started thinking that I didn’t deserve to be there anymore. It wasn’t the first time I thought it, but this week was the first time I’ve ever been in the mgas without SUNGWOON.” PARK JINYOUNG appears next. “I won’t lie and say there wasn’t any tension. On the first day of practice, I felt like DANIEL just gave up on himself and on us, and he really wasn’t putting any effort to help to choose the song and figuring out what we wanted to do. It’s very unfair on his part to act like this when so far he’s been treated very favorably in this competition. That is the behavior of a spoiled child,” he finishes honestly.
Screen split in two, images of YEJI adjusting the choreography and DANIEL sitting with his guitar, working on the arrangement, are shown side by side. “I have fixed the choreo so that you should be able to dance it,” the girl nods and it goes back in time where DANIEL supplies. “I’m not good at dancing.” However, when they finish the first draft with the line distributions, YEJI doesn’t look pleased, giving a DANIEL a slight glare. “Are you underestimating me?” And the week continues to be turbulent to the trio. “I don’t… think I have very much to show, especially not anything I didn't already. It’ll be just like ERIC said,” DANIEL says during practice. “Take what he said and use it. Fight, don’t just stand there and let him and all the other decide who you are, because I’m honestly starting to believe them.” JINYOUNG’s words are harsh and the air is thick when YEJI returns to the room. “Are you here to argue or practice?” She asks. When DANIEL finally agrees, JINYOUNG asks for a hug so they can move on.
Commanding the dance practices, YEJI shows a professional and stern image. As DANIEL continues to make mistakes and apologize, the girl gets more frustrated. “Don’t apologize for making mistakes, just practice so you don’t make them when we’re performing- this is where you can make mistakes.” The teammates are interrupted by JUNGEUN, making her way to their side of the room. “Look, I know we’re on different teams, but if you don’t get your shit together then you might as well tune your bass again instead of being here,” she says to DANIEL before HANSOL separates them. “I’m going to get better just so I can bet you, JUNGEUN-ssi,” he says. Tensions are high, but it seems to motivate the boy because when more images of him practicing are shown, he has a different look in his eyes. As they run their lines together and practice the choreography, DANIEL expresses his desire to sing the last line. “If you can do the entire choreo, without making a mistake by the end of today. I’ll consider it.” YEJI says.
And to keep the element of surprise, they go back to the studio without revealing if DANIEL got his wishes granted. They’re sitting on their chairs, DANIEL in the center, holding his guitar. It’s a melody everyone can recognize, but the acoustic version gives a different vibe to it. JINYOUNG’s voice is heard through the room and the other member joining him for a brief second, YEJI taking over before the rap portion that belongs to DANIEL. With JINYOUNG singing “It’s a love shot!” and aiming the gun formed by his hand at the camera, it all seems to lead to the chorus, but the instrumentals pause and they surprise the audience with a dance break. Centre-stage, YEJI shows her powerful moves and overflowing charisma. Pretending to take a shot, the girl walks back to her position and they continue doing well. When they progress to the chorus again, signaling the end of their performance, the whole group dance to it. It’s DANIEL who sings the final line before the music fades out and all three of them strike a pose as if drinking a shot.
“The team performing ‘Love Shot’ did well,” LEE CHAERYEONG comments, “I like how they put effort into changing the performance from the original.” Not everyone felt like agreeing with her, however. “It was good and they all had their solo moments,” CHOI MINHO starts, “but it didn’t feel like a team performance as much as it felt like they were taking turns.” JO YURI appears as well. “DANIEL-ssi and that guitar.” She groans. “We get it, you can play guitar – but really? It’s all he’s done.”
The building to appear is TRC. When the practice room is shown, most of the contestants are already there, except for WONG YUKHEI, who comes in holding cupcakes for both his teammates—JO YURI and MIYAWAKI SAKURA—and the one sharing the room. It feels like sharing food is a recurring theme between the rooms, no matter where you are. As much as they eat, the editors make sure to also show them practicing.
It’s another random day when WONG YUKHEI is shown leaving the room without explanation. They fasten the footage to indicate how long it had taken for him to return before he does so, walking in without much to show. “YUKHEI had to run to the bathroom for a while without telling us what was happening,” SIA KIM (one of the other contestants in their room) comments. “After a long time, he came back and told us he had Mexican food the night before and not to use the bathroom after him.” She covers her face with her hands and groans a little, but it doesn’t stop the laughter. “Maybe we never should have asked…”
With the end of practice comes a performance. The trio stands on stage, all wearing suits, before introducing themselves. They get into positions, each doing something different for the start. YUKHEI starts by singing the first vocal lines, followed by YURI’s own charming voice. In contrast to them, SAKURA takes on the rap lines of the song and also manages to show some of her Australian accent when the song gets to English words. They all stop together when the song ends, concluding their performance.
“They worked well together, and maybe it’s because the song is originally performed by a smaller group, to begin with, but it looked very complete even with just three of them.” PARK WOOJIN says.
Back in the practice room, the door opens, revealing one of the members of the other trio. “Whoa!” KIM SEUNGHUN gasps. “Do you feel this energy? It explains why their trainees and artists have that aura,” he continues, truly amused, then snaps back to reality. “Oh sorry! I got carried away in my excitement,” The boy bows to his teammates, KANG HYUNGGU and SIA KIM, with a sheepish smile. “Nice to meet you! Let’s work well together.” The three sit together on the floor and it’s the other boy who suggests they play an icebreaker game to take the edge off. The end is cut short when the scene changes to SIA’s face of disbelief. “How could you tell three lies?” HYUNGGU doesn’t see that as a negative. “I do what I want,” he says with a laugh.
“Do you think the fact I accidentally threw a flower at HYUNGGU last week was a sign we’d work together?” SEUNGHUN questions during his interview. “I think he was embarrassed about it,” HYUNGGU adds to the story. “I don’t think the flower was originally intended to be for me. But it helped us be more comfortable around each other!”
Apart from HYUNGGU, the other two members don’t seem too familiar with dancing. “If you guys give me tonight and tomorrow morning, I can learn it and teach it to you guys,” the dancer promises confidently. While they appear busy learning their song, SEUNGHUN also appears busy with something else. The boy appears dancing to something different, and once the camera zooms out of him, it shows that he’s copying the other team’s dance moves. “Apologies! I thought you needed a fourth member!” He jokes, dropping himself on the floor beside his trio.
The team makes their way to the center of the stage and introduce themselves. “Leaving you breathless, we’re team Avid!” They all say together. From the start, they move gracefully to the choreography of the song. HYUNGGU starts as the center before the other members can be revealed from behind him. The three get to share their vocal tone, and the three of them are also dancing. Throughout the song, they keep their faces expressive as well. In the end, the dancer takes the center again, and their performance neatly comes to an end.
“The performance was a bit of a letdown.” LEE NAKYUNG says. “I thought they’d all unify their creative minds and come up with something great, but all they really did was a cover? I don’t know what happened there. maybe they were trying to play it safe. Maybe SIA has grown complacent with her achievements so far but the CEOs themselves said she shouldn’t let it go to her head. If she falls out of Top 3 I wouldn’t be too surprised.”
Three chairs in the center give a déjà-vu sensation, but this time who goes up next is YOO TAEYANG, SOHN YOUNGJAE, and KIM HYOJIN. "Unlocking your hearts, we are The Master Key," they introduce themselves, followed by Park Jihoon's famous "jeojang" gesture.
The camera follows HYOJIN into KT’s practice room, where the red-haired contestant joins the two dancers and greets them respectfully with a bow. “Hi, I’m KIM HYOJIN.” Once they’re done with introductions, the performance topic comes up and HYOJIN’s bright hair color is not what makes the boy stands out this time. “I’m… not the best dancer, but I will work my hardest on whatever we end up choosing.” He says, but as Youngjae continues to suggest some options for the trio, it seems like it will be a problem. “You think you’d be able to do something like this?” YOUNGJAE insists. “If we make the choreo easier, maybe this one?” Another failed attempt. Visibly frustrated, HYOJIN bows his head apologetically at the others. “What should we do?” He asks. It takes a while, but they finally set with Blooming Days.
The task of training HYOJIN for their stage is left to TAEYANG, who already proved his expertise in the skill and seems qualified to not only help the singer but to offer modifications for certain parts so that members’ all level of dancing are able to execute it nicely. They throw around the idea before they decided to use chairs as part of the choreography. Despite the struggles and the time frame offered, TAEYANG is shown coming up with a fitting choreography without trouble. Practice starts right away and the seriousness of the moment is interrupted when the camera focuses on HYOJIN breaking out into an embarrassed smile when he attempts to execute a sexy move and keep a charismatic expression. “You go into the chorus with a bang! And then, like, swoosh, and you get the feeling of pow!” YOUNGJAE tries to explain the routine when Taeyang is out, doing the movements of the song, but the other’s expression is of utter confusion. “Eric… I really don’t know what you’re talking about,” says HYOJIN, and they show a scene of YOUNGJAE staring at the other side of the room here his former partner, YUGYEOM is practicing.
When everyone is gone, HYOJIN stays in the room practicing the choreography in front of the mirror persistently, showing an image that contrasted with his sweet vocals. “I’ve really decided to take a risk this time, hm?” He mumbles to himself out loud. “I’ve never danced before… And this is also the first time I won’t be using an instrument. Keyboard-ssi, I miss you.” The boy hums the last line with a melody. A different outfit shows it’s a different day, but he remains practicing until he’s the only one left in the room even though he looks exhausted. HYOJIN yawns and turns his phone to the camera to show the hours. “Right now, it’s around two a.m. Hope you’re sleeping well - I’ll work hard and quietly so that I don’t wake you up, okay? Fight!”
The camera returns to the stage where we can see TAEYANG sitting down on one of the chairs with HYOJIN, back to back, while YOUNJAE stands to the side, the third seat empty. The instrumentals kick in and HYOJIN’s voice is the first to be heard until TAEYANG takes over. Although there’s no dance for this part, they keep their expressions on point as they deliver the lines. It’s when YOUNGJAE starts singing that the others stand up as the song builds up, they show what the audience was expecting from the dancers, mixing the original choreography with something new, and their different images seem to work well on stage. TAEYANG and YOUNGJAE make a picture sign with their fingers, a reference to the original version. HYOJIN doesn’t struggle to keep up with the others and uses simple movements in his favor, not only showcasing his stable vocals but also a new image. The challenges during practice don’t stop them from ending the performance neatly. Running back to his seat, Youngjae realizes too late that his chair was still on stage. “Whoops!” He says and runs back to get it before joining his trio again.
DO KYUNGSOO appears to comment. “I did notice there was a part where TAEYANG and ERIC danced and HYOJIN, who was in the center, just sang. I am not sure if I agree with that choreo choice, mainly because HYOJIN looked out of place in the middle there when the two other boys were dancing hard and in sync.”
The next group appears also formed by three boys. They’re KIM YUGYEOM, NAM JOOHYUK, and WANG JACKSON. “Hello! We are Two Twenty One Two!” They introduce themselves and get into position before it changes back to their practice room time. YUGYEOM comes charging through the door and holds onto JACKSON. “Hyung! I can’t believe we get to work together!” The three seem to work well together, and the two friends get to know JOOHYUK better as well which is proven by the intricate handshake he shows off with YUGYEOM on another day.
“This week…” JOOHYUK chuckles during his interview, “YUGYEOM and JACKSON were a blast to be with. YUGYEOM and I are the same age and our wavelengths are completely compatible while JACKSON made sure we held it on together, I think we make a pretty strong unit.”
They appear again on top of the stage, ready to perform. To show off their charms with a song that could be classified as provocative, the boys all show a bit of dancing as well as another one of their skills. JACKSON is the one in charge of singing, while YUGYEOM performs with a rap, and JOOHYUK decides to do a bit of both, showing that they had it all. The choreography involved a lot of body rolls and the unexpected lifting of their shirts, but only two of them did it—YUGYEOM and JACKSON. They go into a dance break that leads towards the end of their song and they make their final pose.
KANG HYUNGGU appears on the screen. “Did you see him lift his shirt?” An image appears on the screen to make it clear he was referring to YUGYEOM. The one being interviewed starts to laugh. “kIM YUGYEOM does not have abs. I’ve seen him shirtless multiple times and those were almost definitely drawn on.” Another person appears. “YUGYEOM’s group?” LEE NAKYUNG says. “Did they forget this is family television? With JACKSON on their team just back from elimination, I would have thought of something better to do… I still hope YUGYEOM is the one to go rather than JACKSON, though.”
Three more people make their way to the stage. There are two girls, LEE CHAERYEONG and LEE NAKYUNG, and a boy, PARK WOOJIN. Together, they say their introduction. “We’ll burn the stage! Hello, we are Firefighters!” With a special computer effect, the scene goes up in flames, and, in its place, the outside of the Royal building appears. There’s a loud mash of two different pieces of music going against each other before showing the contestants inside. They try to practice at the same time, but the loudness appears to even affect them. “I had to leave a couple of times a day just to give my eardrums a break,” PARK WOOJIN grimaces upon recalling the ringing in his ears. “What were the chances the two teams with the loudest songs ended up in the same practice room?” WOOJIN is shown making his way back inside the room.
Going to a more quiet time, the group sit calmly together and discussing what to prepare. “We are all dancers so we came to the agreement that this was a great outcome.” LEE NAKYUNG says. “We didn’t have to hold back much in case someone else wasn’t too comfortable with the skill.” The interviewer asks her a question. “Did the trio that shared the room with you ever interfere on your plannings?” The girl stops for a second before replying. “Honestly… yes.” She chuckles but her face isn’t very amused. “I really had no problems with him beforehand but I think SUWOONG may be a bit too competitive.” While she explains the situation, it plays on the screen for people to see. “One day when we were practicing our songs, SUWOONG kept turning the volume of his group’s song up even if that clearly made it hard for us to listen to our own. It’s not that hard to keep the two songs balanced—we were already doing that before. So, of course, I turned our own song up. We had to practice just as much as they did. Honestly, it just felt very immature.” In response to this, SUWOONG appears on the screen. "She started it.“
In contrast to the two other’s unhappiness, CHAERYEONG doesn’t look as bothered. Their practice session comes to an end with the girl making different expressions towards one of the cameras, preparing for the stage that was about to come.
They’re back on the stage, now all in their starting positions. With the start of the song, they all scream the first line together: “Get it lifted!” And their loud song starts. CHAERYEONG starts with her first rap verse, and NAKYUNG follows along with one of her own. Unlike what would normally be expected, the two cute girls take on the long portions of rap that took most of the song, while WOOJIN is the one who sings the fewer vocal lines. Along with the lines, the group is continuously dancing, as expected of a group of three dancers. As their song near the end, instead of following with a final dance break together, each member has their own time to shine with a solo choreography of their own. Once they each show what they got, they finally take on their final positions and what was once loud comes to silence.
HWANG YEJI appears in her interview. “NAKYUNG’s performance stood out to me. Their stage was more powerful than I thought but they are all dancers, so they had it rather easy I think. It was impressive.”
Heading to the final performance, the last group take their place on the stage composed of LEE SUWOONG, NA JAEMIN, and SHIN RYUJIN. “We are the Golden Trio!” They make sure to introduce their team name. Just as before, the scene changes to how their practice time went. This room also appears to enjoy something when SUWOONG brings bubble tea with him and offers them to the other group first before sitting with his own teammates. Except the happy vibes don’t last for long in this group.
They’re practicing their dance routine, and when they finish, SUWOONG doesn’t seem too satisfied. "Let’s do the chorus again, it feels a bit sloppy.” They try again, but the boy still doesn’t look content. “Let’s break for ten,” and then he leaves the room. When he makes his way back, someone else is missing in the room. It appears that RYUJIN went to the infirmary over a migraine. His brows furrow a bit. “A migraine?” So the two males continue to practice by themselves without the presence of their third member.
SUWOONG sits by himself in the room before both JAEMIN and RYUJIN enter the room. The girl has the eyes of someone who had obviously been crying. She demands an explanation of the false truths the boy had been telling about her. The boy crosses his arms. “Are you calling my cousin a liar? That’s very accusatory, Ryujin-ah. I don’t really appreciate you insulting her in front of me.” RYUJIN says back that she doesn’t even know who his cousin is, so SUWOONG calls the other girl to get this confusing debate over with.
With cuts appearing on the screen, the public is introduced to Amarante. It’s the name of a group that was supposed to debut with RYUJIN in it, but the girl clearly isn’t part of the plans anymore. SUWOONG’s cousin had told him that RYUJIN was the cause of their never coming debut, but now that she’s put on the spot, the girl on the phone confesses her lies on television. SUWOONG looks defeated and puts his head down after the phone call is done. “You were right, JAEMIN.” He says. “It was a misunderstanding, after all.” He raises both of his hands in prayer while looking at RYUJIN with a slightly pinched nose and softened eyes. "Please forgive me.”
The result of the situation is to be shown at their stage, whether they deliver a performance with high spirits or not. It all starts with a line done by RYUJIN. “Those oppas are weird.” That kickstarts to what will be the rest of their performance. Following the girl, SUWOONG does the energetic introduction embedded at the start of the song, followed by JAEMIN’s rap verse as the true first lyrics of the song. Their choreography comes with a lot of performing. They all act weird, just like RYUJIN has called them. They all fight and play with actions pre-prepared. At the final stretch of the song, they take out golden coins from bags and throw them at the contestants sitting on the side, showing the ‘jackpot’ they had earned.
“Ah, truthfully, RYUJIN and I had a misunderstanding in the beginning.” SUWOONG starts. "We were really lucky that we were mature enough to talk through it, otherwise it would’ve impacted our performance. We’ve worked hard to make it this far, so it would’ve been a shame had we let this small hiccup drag us down.” He offers a small smile then. NAM JOOHYUK appears next to leave a comment. “They were pretty good! RYUJIN’s solo part was as expected from her, phenomenal and while the rest of her team came on quite strong as well.”
With the end of all performances comes the tense music the public should be used to by now. Should a contestant make it through this episode they’ll see themselves going straight to the semi-finals. With a total of ten groups on this round, a brutal number of five—half of them—will lose one of their members. Katie Lee takes her microphone to start with the announcements which will be a long one for sure today. “Congratulations to all of you for putting such impressive performances today. As much as you’ve grown with each passing episode, not everyone can be on the top spot.” The woman pauses, looking at the contestants below her.
“From the ten groups here, three trios will get to stand on stage right now.” The CEO looks down at her notes before calling out the names of the best contestants of the week. “The top three of the week are CHOI MINHO, JEON HEEJIN, and ZHOU JIEQIONG; JO YURI, MIYAWAKI SAKURA, and WONG YUKHEI; and LEE CHAERYEONG, LEE NAKYUNG, and PARK WOOJIN.” They’re welcomed to the stage by the other contestants and stand beside their own teammates. “You’ve all managed to show a captivating stage in your own way. It was great to watch you perform, but the top performance has been chosen.”
A long pause makes time for the camera to focus on each of the contestants on the stage before it returns to Katie Lee who sports one of her more serious looks. “The winners of this week are… LEE CHAERYEONG, LEE NAKYUNG, and PARK WOOJIN.” The screen shows their reactions. “With a team composed of three dancers we were scared of what you would be able to come up with, but you managed to show that you shouldn’t only be classified as that. You also didn’t try showing more than what you have and it was a very well-balanced performance. Congratulations on your win and the two other groups here as well.”
There’s a new round of applause and the trios already called are safe for the day and each received their own spot at the semi-finals. They return to their seats and, between the seven trios left, only two of them will get to remain complete. For what’s next, and what everybody dreads, Hyun Bin is the one to speak.
“The same way we have our higher ranking teams, we also have the lower ranking ones.” The man nods towards the contestants. “During our duos rounds, both members of the pair were eliminated when they landed on a low rank. For this round, only one of the members will be leaving us. Five contestants in total will be eliminated today.” And with that, the tense music returns. The camera focuses on the face of different people and maybe one of them is your favorite. “So… we’ll start with the first trio who’ll lose a member today.”
Hyun Bin pauses again, raising the tension in the room. “It’s between KIM YUGYEOM, NAM JOOHYUK, and WANG JACKSON.” He stops and directs a stare at the three males. “You had an entire week to prepare something and it just felt really lacking. You had everything to make this a very risky but good performance, but instead, it was incredibly bland. Sadly to you, showing your body wasn’t as impressive as it could have been. As mentioned before, though, only one of you will be going home today.” The man takes the time to lick his lips before making the announcement. “The member of this trio to be leaving us is… KIM YUGYEOM. We hope you may continue with your journey, although this competition may no longer be part of it.”
With a nod, the man moves on to the next. “The second trio between the lower ranks are… CHWE HANSOL, KIM JUNGEUN, and TAKADA KENTA. While it certainly looked like you were having a lot of fun together, it wasn’t really a performance that felt like you could show your skills very well. If you think it was and that is all you got to show then you all must also agree with your position here. Of course, this doesn’t mean all of you were bad. Only one will leave us today and that person is… KIM JUNGEUN. We hope you can see where you can grow and continue improving yourself out of the show.”
And with two people out, it means it’s time to cross the middle line. To continue with the announcements, Seo Jisub is the one to speak next. “Moving on, the third trio between the lower ranks are… KIM HYOJIN, SOHN YOUNGJAE, and YOO TAEYANG.” The CEO calls out. “We appreciated the modifications you made to your performance. You tried fitting all the members to the performance. However, each time we have fewer performances, and while we may appreciate some things, we also must pay more attention to smaller details. There were others who performed a better act, and they had more of these details than yours did. Due to this, one of you will have to go home, and that person is… YOO TAEYANG. Hopefully, you’ll get to keep working towards your dream even after leaving us.”
Heading towards the end, the man continues. “The fourth trio between the lower ranks are… HWANG YEJI, KANG DANIEL, and PARK JINYOUNG.” Jisub looks over at their direction. “You performed your own version of your chosen song. It felt like you were trying to split it into different sections to highlight each one of you but not everyone really got the attention that they wanted. It also feels like one of you had their strength turned into a disadvantage. Still, only one of you will go home. This person is… PARK JINYOUNG. This may be your second elimination but you made it further than most. We hope you keep pursuing your dreams even after this.”
To bring an end to it all, Tiger JK is next to pick his microphone. “There are only three teams left, and only one of you will be losing someone today. The last trio between the lower ranks are… LEE SUWOONG, NA JAEMIN, and SHIN RYUJIN. As entertaining as it was, a performance must be more than that. You had the story elements and even the special surprise at the end, but you still landed just below the cut mark. You certainly picked a very strong song. The problem here is that you tried reaching that level of excitement and not exactly all of your skills followed along with that. And the last person to leave us today is… NA JAEMIN. Keep up with your hard work.”
With eliminations finally coming to an end, the rest of the contestants clap. Except, instead of the CEOs changing things around to announce the next challenge, Tiger JK continues to speak. “We’ve now reached our last 25 contestants of this season. On the first episode we had 100 hopefuls wishing for a spot on this show, and, before that, we had thousands of people signing up for auditions. Next week will be the semi-finals and, this time, we weren’t the ones to show who was paired with who.” The man looks to the side and Baek Jiyoung takes her own microphone at the end of the table.
“As we walk towards the end of the competition, we asked for some help from a few people you’ll probably recognize. If you’ll please take a look,” the woman points forward to the stage. It is empty now but, suddenly, the set starts to do something most didn’t even know it had the ability to do. The screen at the end of the stage parts in two and the floor is taken over by dry ice, raising the expectation by each second that passes. Whether curious eyes managed to figure out who the three figures are in between all that smoke or not, the woman makes sure to introduce them to the public. “From Sphere Entertainment, please welcome CONVEX’s very own JINKI and JINWOOK, as well as our star trainee and winner of the last season of the MGAs, GO HOJUNG!”
Just like that, the three men reveal themselves from the mystery and make their way towards the center of the stage. As they do so, new shadows appear between the cloud waiting to be announced as well. “From Nova Entertainment,” Hyun Bin starts, “please welcome our future AND*ROMA members SEUNGWAN and SUNMI, as well as our star trainee, LEE SUNGYEOL!” The camera makes sure to capture any interesting reaction from the contestants.
“From TRC Entertainment,” Tiger JK continues, “please welcome our K.ARMA’s DOYEON and SANA along with our star trainee, JUNG JINSOUL!” The three girls reveal themselves from the smoke and join the others on the stage, leaving a space in the middle for whoever appears next to have the clear passageway.
The one next proceeds with introductions. “From KT Entertainment,” Katie Lee says, “please welcome our ECLIPSE’s dearest HASEUL and MINJI, as well as our star trainee, LEE LUDA!” Another three girls make their way forward to the center, a continues round of surprises.
“From Royal Entertainment,” So Jisub brings the final addition, “please welcome these members of LUXE, CHERI, and ELLA, as well as our star trainee, JEON WONWOO!” These are the final trios to take the stage, although they aren’t there to compete.
To explain the situation a bit better, Baek Jiyoung is the one who adds to her previous words. “You’re all probably very surprised by the presence of these idols and trainees here. Just like you, all of them took part in the MGAs before. Not all of them won, and not all of them made it to the finals, but they still managed to debut or get signed under one of our companies. With their experience both as past contestants and as trained performers, these people in front of you will be this season’s coaches.”
There’s a clear smile on her face as she nods at those on stage. “This year, there won’t be only one winner but, instead, a team. The coaches before you are here representing their company and each took a vote on who they thought would best fit its image. Based on that, five new groups were formed with five contestants each. Since next week will be our semi-finals and with the help of these talented coaches, we hope to see some next-level performances.”

And now, let’s see what’s in store for our sixth episode and semi-finale!
With the revelation of this season’s coaches comes the revelation of the next challenge. Each coach was told to vote for who they thought fit the image of the company they’re in and, from these votes, groups of five were properly arranged. All people involved should show at least two of their performance skills, one of them being dancing. The theme is to not only impress but to prepare a stage that fits the image of the company they were assigned under. This may differ from the image a contestant may have had of themselves. All groups are told to come up with a name of their own. A list of the groups can be found below:
SPHERE ENTERTAINMENT — Coaches: Jinki, Jinwook, Go Hojung #5006 - CHWE HANSOL #5017 - KANG DANIEL #5033 - MIYAWAKI SAKURA #5035 - NAM JOOHYUK #5038 - PARK WOOJIN
NOVA ENTERTAINMENT — Coaches: Lee Sunmi, Son Seungwan, Lee Sungyeol #5004 - CHOI YEWON #5025 - KIM SEUNGHUN #5039 - SEO CHANGBIN #5045 - TAKADA KENTA #5046 - WANG JACKSON
TRC ENTERTAINMENT — Coaches: Doyeon, Sana, Jung Jinsoul #5002 - CHOI MINHO #5011 - HWANG YEJI #5018 - KANG HYUNGGU #5028 - LEE CHAERYEONG #5040 - SHIN RYUJIN
KT ENTERTAINMENT — Coaches: Haseul, Minji, Lee Luda #5014 - JO YURI #5026 - SIA KIM #5030 - LEE NAKYUNG #5047 - WONG YUKHEI #5050 - ZHOU JIEQIONG
ROYAL ENTERTAINMENT — Coaches: Cheri, Ella, Jeon Wonwoo #5007 - DO KYUNGSOO #5013 - JEON HEEJIN #5020 - KIM HYOJIN #5032 - LEE SUWOONG #5042 - SOHN YOUNGJAE
By the end of the next episode, one member from each group will be eliminated. This means that even if your entire performance is considered sub-par, only the contestant who was considered as having the weakest performance will be eliminated.
Just like the previous episode, the contestants will be recorded during their preparation time. The five companies prepared one of their practice rooms with cameras and will allow their group to practice inside with free use of the high-tech equipment available in it. On the first day of training on Friday, the 26th, the coaches will visit their practice room to help the contestants decide on songs and give them some tips on not only their past experiences in the MGAs but also as performers. Additional meetings may be arranged if needed and if it doesn’t conflict with anyone’s schedules.
All contestants are supposed to make their own way to the recording studio prepared specially for this episode. Unlike previous episodes, this time contestants will have to perform a stage in front of a live audience of 1500 people. To help with this, the episode will be hosted by the MC Hong Jinwoo. They’ll have to go to a different set this time and it’ll look a bit like this. The bigger stage will allow for bigger props if needed, and these should be checked with the staff beforehand for them to prepare it. The groups will get to prepare themselves backstage and, this time around will have to wait there while the other groups perform. A room with a TV is available for those who’d like to watch the groups performing. Just because most eyes will be on the performance doesn’t mean no one will be paying attention to you. A set of cameras will have their lenses ready to capture any sort of interesting reaction from those watching backstage (beware of the evil editing).
Sitting between the stage and the public with their much more comfortable chairs are the CEOs of each big company. They’ll make sure only the most captivating contestants will continue their journey to make this the best season yet and continue to represent their companies.
Tune in next Saturday, the 3rd, for our sixth episode!
MGA Season 5 episode six preview: Idols and trainees have been revealed as this season’s coaches and the remaining contestants are now assigned to the five companies. Will they manage to do a good job of keeping up with their image? How will the coaches help the contestants? Tune in next time to find out!
[ All of the performances were aired in their entirety. Cuts from the show itself were uploaded to Mnets’s Official Youtube Channel. ]
If you made it this far, either if you were eliminated on this episode or not, you may add +3 POINTS IN A PERFORMANCE SKILL to your points tally. Make sure to link back to this post for verification.
Contestants have until midnight EST at the end of Friday, the 2nd, to post their 200+ words solos about the groups challenge in front of the CEOs. Please tag all related posts with #rkmga5 and #rkmga5groups. They’ll have less than four minutes to perform their chosen performance to prove their worth to make it to the final (as long as it doesn’t break any laws). Good luck! Song choices should be submitted to the rkevent inbox. Two groups performing the same song will not be allowed and this will be chosen on a first come first serve basis. Any group chats made for plotting should include both Mod Bianca (luvseungjoon on twitter) and Mod Gab (jindeukii on twitter) for monitoring.
After the last performance is done, the CEOs will leave to discuss their thoughts privately. While this happens, the contestants will be taken one by one into a small room to be interviewed on their thoughts of the current state of things and all the live audience will be told to leave the set. The contestants will be asked a variety of questions and some may be included in the list found below! Feel free to come up with your own questions if you think they can be fitting.
What did you think of the results last week?
What did you think when the coaches first appeared?
How was it like working with your group?
How was it like working with the coaches?
How do you think you did?
Were there any performances you liked?
Were there any performances you didn’t like?
What did you think of ___’s performance?
Which group do you represented their company the best?
Was there anyone you think that brought their group down?
Is there anyone you are certain will move onto the next phase of the MGAs?
Is there anyone you are certain will be eliminated today?
Once they’re done, they’ll be taken back to their waiting area to wait, or may go to the bathroom if needed.
You may also write an extra 200+ words solo about your muse’s interview, as explained above, to also be posted until midnight EST at the end of Friday, the 2nd. For doing so, you may earn +2 CHARISMA OR CREATIVITY POINTS and these can be added to your points tally as soon as it is posted. Please tag all related posts with #rkmga5 and #rkmga5groups. Please link this post as verification.
COACHES! If you write one 200+ words solo about your muse’s time spent interacting with the contestants you may earn +3 CHARISMA OR CREATIVITY POINTS. You’ll also have until midnight EST at the end of Friday, the 2nd, to post your solos. These can be added to your points tally as soon as it is posted. Please tag all related posts with #rkmga5 and #rkmga5groups. Please link this post as verification.
For an additional +2 CHARISMA OR CREATIVITY POINTS, you may also write an extra 200+ words solo about your muse’s interview. These would take place after or in between their time spent together on the 26th. Coaches will be taken to a separate practice room where a mini-interview-set has been prepared for recording. Questions will mostly be about their thoughts on the contestants and how the performance preparations are going, as well as their expectations for final results. Please post this until midnight EST at the end of Friday, the 2nd, to collect points. These can be added to your points tally as soon as it is posted. Please tag all related posts with #rkmga5 and #rkmga5groups. Please link this post as verification.
If the coaches write their solos or not will not impact the results of the groups. More information about muses joining the live audience will come in a separate post.

#5011 hwang yeji, #5017  kang daniel & #5036 park jinyoung - love shot , lyrics                        outfit / hair style mentioned: @rkpjy, @danielxrk, @rkchwev, @jungeunxrk, @ryujinrk, @rktaeyang, @rksuwoong, @rkkenta, @rkxbin, @rkyuri, @rkheejin, @rkmason, @rknak,, @rkkyungsoo, @rkjaemin, @rkchaeryeong, @rkpwj, @rkkyul, @yewonxrk
another week. yeji had made it to the next episode and the next week-- she was so close to being in the finals but right now she wasn’t sure how she was performing-- if what she was doing was the right choice, then again yeji improved her singing because she wanted to become a better performer. not just a dancer and she was determined to show everyone that she was improving as both a singer and dancer.
one thing, junhee’s elimination-- he had helped her out with her vocals but despite that gotten eliminated and she almost cried when she saw him leave. there wasn't enough time for her to mourn the older male but she made sure to text him. when she saw who she was grouped with, yeji lifted both her brows, "jinyoung and daniel," daniel was her cousin and they got along but she had never worked with him. jinyoung was a good singer and immediately she started wondering what kind of song they could do, knowing that daniel wasn't a dancer and jinyoung was a great singer... she was a dancer, how could they incorporate everything they were good at.
they spend a day brainstorming what kind of performance they want to do, yeji and jinyoung arrive first. while she's with jinyoung, she can't help but feel like she's seen him before but she can't place his face. while discussing with him she can't help but notice how familiar he feels, 'who?' she studies his face before realizing, "AH! SNOW WHITE OPPA?" how many months ago was that, yeji had seen jinyoung in the hospital. her mouth was wide open for a moment, then she remembered where they were and quickly covered her mouth. maybe he didn't want anyone to know about where they had met and she didn't want to be insensitive towards him.
right before they could continue the conversation daniel walks into the room, yeji notices how he seems different. it was early in the morning so yeji initially thought that maybe things would catch up-- but daniel seemed to drift further away by the minute.
back and forth, discussing and talking somehow at the end of the day they came to an agreement. yeji understood daniel's concerns and worries but she was honestly frustrated that he was sitting on those feelings, it wouldn't do him any good.
in the end they decided on loveshot, they decided to put some twists on it-- it would start acoustically, towards the end they would all dance. they all got to show something that they did well, daniel his musical side, jinyoung's vocals and yeji got dancing. however one thing she hadn't expected to have to fight for was the line distribution. when she saw the first draft of it she gave daniel a slight glare, "are you underestimating me?" which in itself was understandable, throughout the competition she had danced for everything she did but when they first suggested that only daniel and jinyoung have parts before her dance, she couldn't help but feel a little insulted. yeji felt overlooked and pushed into a corner that she wanted to get out of, she had improved vocally and was it so bad of her to want to show that? jinyoung made her sing a couple of the lines and eventually, she got a small singing part before daniel's rap which honestly satisfied her.
after daniel had expressed his thoughts of not wanting to dance more than he needed to. which yeji found understandable-- daniel wasn't a dancer, yeji hadn't really seen him dance so far. so yeji mixed and matched the part where everyone was dancing, taking the choreo from a different verse and putting it over the original choreo, that would be too difficult for daniel to keep up with. yeji stayed late to prepare for that, dancing, listening to the song so that when the boys came the next morning she had something to show them.
when the next day arrived yeji was filled with excitement, even if she had gone home last she felt energetic and when they were all gathered she looked at daniel.
"i have fixed the choreo, so that you should be able to dance it," she nodded-- yeji was confident in her own abilities as a choreographer and as dancer to teach him. this would be one of her biggest challenges so far but she accepted it.
at some point during the week yeji found herself in a daze, staring at the other team-- wondering what n earth kind of song they were working on. she heard a lot of heavy breathing coming from their side of the room and it threw her off. while at the same time hansol was on the other side, she didn't want to stare at him in an obvious way but she couldn't help it. the way that her heart drew her gaze to him was excruciatingly painful, she couldn't just go up and give him a hug even though he was so close. yeji shook her head and snapped back to the reality that was her team and her nose scrunched, yeji turned to the camera for a moment before pointing in the direction of hansol and his team-- "don't they look.... so pretty? i feel like i see flowers when i look over."
the weeks proves to be more turbulent than any of her other weeks during the mgas, at one point she goes out to get them all something to drink but when she comes back daniel and jinyoung are arguing about something... something she doesn't understand, it sounds like baby language, she stares at them in disbelief before opening her mouth to speak, "are you here to argue or practice?" she lived in the us for three years and since coming back she hasn't completely gotten used to how satoori sounds-- to her it sounds like gibberish at times.
yeji finds herself sterner than she has ever had to be, even if they are family yeji wasn't about to give daniel a free pass-- whenever she danced with him she watched him in the mirror and then she corrected the multiple things he were doing wrong. each time he makes a mistake he apologizes to her and each time she gets more frustrated, "don't apologize for making mistakes, just practice so you don't make them when we are performing-- this is where you can make mistakes." yeji stays late with him when he stays, not wanting to leave him hanging if he has any questions-- he tells her to leave but she stays, even with the music playing she manages to get a couple of minutes of sleep without intending to sleep but the long nights were slowly getting to her.
yeji notices how daniel's motivation is lower and when he tells them what is wrong, reading the online comments were going to get everyone eventually. they have a moment where they all are thinking the same thing-- daniel should be in the center at the start of their performance when he plays the opening. it was odd, this was the first time all week she felt they seemed more like a team. an excited smile grows on her face as she finds a camera, giving it a thumbs up in its direction.
in all honest yeji feels it has been going better than she expected even with hansol in the same practice room, sure there are moments when she finds herself looking over and she can't help but wonder if he has noticed her being around. however yeji goes out for a water break at one point, then when she comes back hansol and jungeun are practicing some of the sexier parts of their performance and yeji is stunned for a moment. looking how his eyes are eyeing the older female, she knows that it is just a performance but at the same time... that could have been her, maybe that could have created more trouble than good. that is what she thinks to herself but her self awareness had been gone, in the few seconds they performed yeji hadn't left the entrance and then suddenly she felt a smack to her face and she lost her balance, for a moment. yeji had gotten punished for dazing out... at a time like this. yeji rubbed her forehead before walking back into the room. hoping that no one saw her but jinyoung noticed-- telling her to be more careful and she knew. she wasn't usually like this.-- "ahh," she utters, seating herself on the couch, "her eyes once again catching hansol and jungeun... "so dizzy." she fumbled around for a couple of moments before she grabbed her phone.

⇢ hansol oppa, is dancing with jungeun unnie... ⇢ the dance is sexy.... the door hit me in the face... ⇢ i'm a 🤡
yeji glanced up, contemplating....
⟨ ━━ ✉ 1 message sent to ‘ hansol ❤ ' ⇢  ... i want to dance with you too. ! deleted ⇢ you are doing well and looking good~ ❤
just as quickly as she had typed it, she deleted it. it wasn't that she was jealous of jungeun-- or maybe she was. yeji finally had him within her reach, emotionally after so long of it being onesided. she was sure she had glanced over more times than he had over at her, whenever she did she saw how hard he was working and she couldn't help but smile. the atmosphere in the practice room was nice-- even if they were different teams, jungeun was great dancer, that much she had noted and kenta as well. right now she felt lucky to be able to see them progress throughout the week. yeji rubbed her forehead again as she felt the heat from the hit earlier fade, looking over at daniel and jinyoung. even if the road up to now had been turbulent it was getting better.
on monday, something happens that surprises yeji. daniel expresses his desires to sing the last line in their performance and yeji lifts her brows, he's careful when he asks her about this and she wonders why her out of all of them, jinyoung was the vocal and she was the dancer. thinking about it the last line had an impact, it came right after their dancing and yeji has seen daniel improve over the past couple of days. maybe it was natural that he came to her after all, yeji lifted her brows at him and tells him, "if you can do the entire choreo, without making a mistake by the end of today. i'll consider it." they go back and forth about it, yeji is younger than him yes but in this case, right now-- age didn't matter. yeji wants to motivate him, this is the first time this week that he has really shown desire for a certain part. he had worked on the instrumental for their performance by himself, which yeji and she was sure jinyoung also appreciated it. daniel expresses his thoughts again and she decides to check his resolve a little, "if you don't look good, it will be highlighted when you are in the center position. it will throw the performance off. is that something you will be happy about?" for a moment she notices how he hesitates, takes back his initial request and yeji feels a small wave of disappointed, "are you giving up that easily?" once again she tries to reassure him, if she doesn't think he's good enough for the part then she won't give it to him. daniel tells her his thoughts and yeji holds back a smile, "only if you think it looks good," he says and yeji looks at him, "then show me what you got," the answer she gets from daniel is one that she wanted
at the end of the day, daniel approaches her-- she sees there is determination in his eyes and yeji thinks it suits him more than the moping that he did on friday. yeji turns on the music for him and watches him as he dances and it isn't perfect, dancing was still foreign to him after all but she saw how determined he was and how he tried his best to do well. she also knew they had two whole days to work on the performance altogether-- she looks at him, judging his moves and figuring out what he needs to work on for the final day but when its over, he stands there and waits for her verdict, she can't help but find it a little amusing but in the end she looks at him, "you can have it, if jinyoung oppa agrees." yeji walks up to him and gives him a warm, proud smile-- "i'm proud of you oppa." she nods and starts her own stretching exercises.
for the rest of the evening and night, she stays around-- working on the dance solo that she is doing for her part in the song. when she gets the spotlight on her-- yeji wants to incorporate some of the original dance moves with the finger gun, body waves. keeping it up in the same alley but at the same time matching it to the instrumental that daniel made for them. yeji times each move perfectly.
yeji does the two her part of the choreo, wanting to hear their input but at at the end they both complimented her and she smiled. at least they liked it all that was left for the judges and audience to like it.
- day of performance -
the week had been hectic and more turbulent than she could have imagined it would be-- but they somehow made it here. she looked to her left and right, seeing daniel and jinyoung by her side. knowing how daniel had been feeling all week, yeji was overcome with a feeling of worry, incase he still felt the same way and she looked at him with concern in her eyes. yeji wanted them all to do well, daniel had worked hard and she was proud of the progress he had made.
“it’ll be alright oppa,” she whispered as she leaned over to daniel, giving him a hopeful smile.
when the stages start yeji feels excited, the first group gets called onto stage and it's heejin, kyulkyung and the favorite this season... choi minho, she wonders about their performance and while watching them yeji thinks that they perform well-- the song choice was a bold choice, in her opinion. minho and kyulkyung seemed to have no problem following the choreo but in the competition yeji had seen heejin dance once, regardless she was impressed by the female. she could tell the other had been practicing-- she nodded her head in approval and claps after their performance is up.
after them, kyungsoo, changbin and yewon are up-- yeji isn't sure what she expects from them but yewon was a dancer. kyungsoo had danced as well, so maybe they would do something simple but remembering changbin... maybe not, instead they perform a song, that yeji isn't sure she has heard before but kyungsoo's vocals, changbin and yewon's rap it's impressive but she can't help but feel like she misses something, the way they take the stage leaves her amazed. they sure have nailed the stage presence, yeji claps again after the performance is over.
then next up is the retro future team, hansol, kenta and jungeun-- she was excited about their performance. she had seen their performance take form over the past week and she couldn't help but be excited to see the final product on stage. maybe she was a little biased but even as she watched them from the side of the stage, her eyes are naturally drawn to hansol, "they are even better on stage," she said into the cameras that were filming them as they were waiting for their turn. when hansol is on stage she thinks that she can get excused for looking at him-- he did so well up there, kenta and jungeun did well too and she wanted to praise them as they came down from their performance but she couldn't find the time before it was their turn to perform.
yeji turned to daniel, she knew how he must be feeling but again, she looked at him. "it'll be alright," she whispered to him with a slight smile. yeji brushed her hands over her outfit, straightening any wrinkles that could have occurred. she had two different sets of microphones going on,  one handheld microphone that was mostly just for show since she would sing into the head microphone later. when hansol's group was done yeji found herself tapping her feet, she had butterflies in her stomach. even if she had a dance in it, the start was so different from what she usually did it started slow, then just singing. no dancing in the start. it felt unusual for her but she had practiced this multiple times during their practices, she was ready for this. they were ready for this.
their numbers were called and they brought chairs with them to stage, she placed her chair down, then they introduced their name-- "jinielji" it was basically just parts of their names combined. this was a stage where everyone showed something they were good at and where they showed something else, it was a nice combination. yeji sat down on her chair, daniel was in the center, holding his guitar and on the other side was jinyoung. then he started playing, the melody of loveshot chorus rang throughout the room. jinyoung's singing part was up-- opening the song vocally and he sang beautifully as one would expect. next up was yeji's part, she brought the microphone up to her mouth and started singing.
nuneul garin chaero geureoke gutge dada beorin seoroye
her voice had strength behind it even if she sang softer than she had done previously, thanks to jinyoung's guidance and all of the adivce that junhee had given her up until his elimination yeji felt confident in her singing, thanks to all of them. yeji's part finished and following her was jinyoung then daniel rapped, she placed the microphone down, when the rap was coming to an end she walked up infront of the males. there was a pause in the instrumental, jinyoung's voice singing 'it's the loveshot' could be heard and now yeji was in the center position, she lifted her head-- a smirk on the face as she started to dance a choreo she had choreographed for this part. it was different from the original choreo, her moves were flexible and powerful and she had made sure they would suit the instrumental that they were going for. this was a different kind of dancing style that she had done up until this point, the look in her eyes was charismatic and she did every move with purpose.
na nanana nananana na nanana nanana na nanana nananana oh oh oh oh oh
when that was over, all three of them sing the line 'its the love shot,' yeji pretends to take a shot of something before walking back to her place. jinyoung's starts the verse after, yeji sways slightly side to side before her part comes up again-- confidently she sings the lines she had gotten. daniel raps after her, delivering his part well-- yeji feels proud of the male, as silly as it might be but with everything that had been goin on between their group since this week of preparations tarted yeji can't help it. daniel's part fade out and this time, its time for jinyoung to have the center position with her and daniel getting into their next positions. jinyoung delivers the bridge amazingly and she knows that that is something he is born with-- yeji singing the vocals over daniel's rap. making sure her voice doesn't stand out too much over her cousin's voice. then they do something that might be unexpected witht he original instrumental playing in the background, all three start dancing.
she had chosen the easier chorus dance for them as a group, remembering how daniel had worried that he wouldn't be able to do it. despite that, he had managed just fine, yeji takes the center position, this time when the chorus plays they sing the lyrics to it-- jinyoung and yeji adlibbing over certain parts.
at the end of their performance, all three of them strike a pose as if drinking a shot.
they arrive back in their seats to watch the rest of the performances, yeji finds herself completely seated in the middle of yuri's trio performance. she remembers how she had practically begged the other to apply, look at where she was now. a big smile grew on her face as she watched the rest of the performance, giving the performance two thumbs up.
yeji feels herself daze out for a moment, but is thrown back into it when she sees who is on stage. taeyang, she is always excited about taeyang's performances and this week was no different. she was happy to see how far the male had gotten. when their performance starts she is surprised, her lips shaping into an o as she watches. taeyang is singing, the dance is adjusted. yeji finds herself looking at taeyang and hyojin both for the most part, hyojin because she knew that he wasn't a dancer, much like daniel but taeyang had seemingly adjusted the choreo for the sake of the male. she was sure that if hyojin was a better dancer the performance would have left a bigger impact-- she felt disappointed but it wasn't their fault. hyojin dancing as well, he was doing his best and it showed.
one team yeji was surprised as she watched nakyung, woojin and chaeryeong's performance. all of them were dancers, as far as she knew and as she watched she found herself immersed in their performance, her head bopping to the beat. their performance was impressive, chaeryeong was a strong dancer as was woojin, next to them nakyung kind of fated out. despite that, the performance had left her impressed. then the last performance of the day-- ryujin's team and maybe it was because she got mvp the previous week but yeji had expectations. suwoong and jaemin were on her team this week, it all was set up to be a great performance. the performance starts with ryujin and yeji is charmed by her, wrinkling her nose and smiling at the start. then suwoong starts... rapping? it leaves her confused but then jaemin takes over and the flow is nice, yeji finds herself dancing in her seat again. the song is exciting and powerful-- suwoong's vocals might not be the best for the song but yeji let it slide the energy was there and she really enjoyed their performance.

▰▰▰▰▰▰ MNET GLOBAL AUDITIONS, SEASON 5 ˟  EP. 5 PERFORMANCE ▰▰▰▰▰▰
is it his number that makes them the first up for the week? he wonders but doesn’t want the answer. that’s how he’s always been— afraid to know the answers. because when you ask a question, when you ask certain questions, there’s an answer in mind. one you have for yourself, one you make or take for yourself with each thought, each move, each breath. for so long, minho thought making his own answers was as easy as what his grandfather and mother taught him: be you. b.yu. that’s all he needs. but he thinks he’s undeserving of the name honoring his maternal grandfather this week— that’s his problem, one he doesn’t have an answer for even as they’re on the way to the studio.
his problem: he convinces himself he doesn’t deserve anything
too good at pretending that nothing bothers him, nothing stays on his mind, that he’s anidiot so it must slip off effortlessly right? ignorance is bliss. he thinks this again, but it’s a lie. a sugarcoated lie that can’t be an answer to anything no matter how hard he tries.
fist clenched as he thinks of what his sister had to say this time, his jaw feels tense, and he has to will himself to stop, has to will himself to exhale. breathe, minho, just breathe. he didn’t think he’d have to tell himself this the longer the show goes on, the closer they are to the final. the truth is, he didn’t think they’d let him get this far and maybe, just maybe, his sister is right. he’s spent all week going back and forth about it, trying to sort out this and figure out that when he misses the days he didn’t worry about any of it.
it’s supposed to be simple. be you. just dance.
but now it’s a string of rules that don’t make sense, results that continue to shake him to the core and he wonders when everything will feel like they make sense again.
  ●●●●●●      LAST WEEK, ON THE FOURTH EPISODE OF MGA S5 — 7월 18일      ●●●●●●
he’d been right, about the greed that was starting to grip his heart.
he’d been right and, damn, well that wasn’t the answer he wanted either. i didn’t even ask, he mentally gripes, because it’s a meme and a genuine complaint all in one. when his name is called, when seunghun’s name is called especially, he feels relieved, excited, too hopeful.
when the winner of the week isn’t them, that greed is flowing through his veins; it’s too late. he feels disappointment settle more heavily than he thought it would. top 3 is good too. more than good. it’s amazing and normally he’d be happy with it, but he can’t deny that people expected him to win, whether they believe in his past or in his experience or his talent. whether they think it’s just his name or because of his performance, because of his performance with seunghun, because they both did beautifully in his eyes— he knows what’s said, what’s expected, and he feels bad all over again that he could be dragging seunghun down.
what if he could’ve gotten top 3 with someone else and won? what if he blamed himself just because of minho? what if people spoke poorly of him because of minho? the competitions he was used to as kid and a teen weren’t like this. you’re a team but you still performance individually at least half the time. you mess up your routine? that’s on you. but this is… ah, he should be used to it by now right? being a trainee and debuting… but it’s not the same. a reality competition show isn’t the same. at that age, he doesn’t remember being as mentally strong as they were. as nakyung. as seunghun. he doesn’t remember being so strongly ambitious, with a specific goal in mind. he had the outline, the generic basics down, but… now, now, when he’s directly paired with someone else and didn’t win, now is when he feels like he took someone else’s opportunity away.
when they’re moving off stage, minho keeps apologizing to seunghun and he has to pretend that the studio is “dry as hell,” using a lame excuse of using eye drops for why his eyes seem the way they do. how does he go back now? how does he rest knowing they came so close and fell short and he could’ve done more? couldn’t he have?
this line of thinking isn’t like him and he feels almost nauseous. there’s some ill foreboding feeling looming over him, goosebumps lining his arms, and he feels haunted. haunted in how his eyelids suddenly feel heavy, how his hands don’t feel like they belong to him the more he waits for the filming to conclude. he barely concentrates during eliminations, only knows a moment of oh hey when it turns out jinyoung and jackson did come back like he was thinking and hoping for.  finding out they’re going to be put in trios is surprising to him. he can’t recall right then and there if they’ve done it before but— the next detail they’ve given answers that feeling he was trying to shake off.
SPHERE ENTERTAINMENT, TRIOS 1 AND 2
no, it can’t be.
he’s reading it wrong, isn’t he?
because why not? he’s suddenly jared, 19, and never fucking learned how to read.
it’s gotta be wrong. send him back to first grade or whatever grade you’re supposed to start reading. is it earlier than that? dammit, why doesn’t he know this or remember? maybe jared is his alter ego.
but he’s happy about his team, he really is. because he’s liked jeon heejin since he heard her sing and kyul is a born dancer. he can’t imagine them not making it all the way on the show and no that’s not why he likes them, not why he likes being teamed up with them. if we’re being totally honest, he has no idea how the three of them will work out as a trio when they’re more evenly split as a rapper, a dancer, and a singer. how do they highlight each skill they have without sacrificing another?
it feels like a classic movie moment when they all meet up and he wouldn’t have it any other way the more he gets to know them over dinner, how they’re all eager to work their plan out, all too eager to give up their own main skill to focus on another for the sake of the group, andthat makes him feel better about this being a competition: that you can still feel like friends despite it all.
they could’ve just focused on one, maybe two skills, considering giving priority to one and hope the rest will work out on stage, any stage they do could be carried by heejin’s vocals, by kyul’s dancing, he knows this, but the fact they they’ll get to work with both in such a fun way… he didn’t think he’d calm down and let go of the feelings from earlier. having heejin and kyul around make it easy.
being alone makes it difficult. being alone lets him think too much again, and again, andagain. being alone means he thinks of everything that’s happened for the past few months and his mind is too restless for his body to handle. leg shaking, fingertips tapping, hair ruffled, tossing and turning in bed when he finally gives up on going through the technicalities of what they’re planning to do, the layout of the stage, the audio, everything and anything but it’s not distracting enough. his mind drifts and wanders only to come back to the same destructive thoughts as if he’s permanently tethered to them.
sleep doesn’t come to him at all.
instead, he’s up way too early, his morning run completed before dabin’s able to call him and ask about joining. he’s confused and laughing, along with jaeseop when they stand outside minho’s room waiting for him to come out of the shower.
“so you’re saying… you already did your normal run and took a shower?”
he can’t see a damn thing but jaeseop is mouthing to dabin that there’s no way minho slept last night. even if they said it to his face, he couldn’t be mad. when he comes out dressed to head to sphere, he’s still distracted, confused. distraught is the one descriptive he misses but it’s damn close to being the most accurate when you add everything up.
seik’s called over before he can say anything to stop them from this parade just so he can head over to the designated company practice room and he’s sighing when seik comes, his first words being “what’s wrong with him?” face scrunched up, he sighs as he leans back in the ottoman, chin resting in the palm of his hand as he leans on the chair’s arm. “why does anything have to be wrong with me?”
the last thing he wanted to hear was a chorus between the three of them of “you’re going to sphere.” there’s a lot he can think of now but all he hears is white noise, static, a light ringing in his ear and it’s probably the lack of sleep, right?
funnily enough, he originally planned on taking his bike or taking public transportation, orhell walking/running to sphere because it was still so damn early. he can’t figure out if it’s the change in plans on the sleep deprivation in this case too when he starts feeling a little carsick. who the hell let jaeseop take the wheel instead of seik? instead, the 2nd oldest of them all is sitting in the backseat with minho and he reaches out to punch minho’s shoulder.
“what?”
“hey, gimme something more than that. we’re not expecting you to, you know…”
it’s weird for seik not to be the most direct one in the vicinity. even with strangers, seik can be a little too honest so he stares at his friend for a while, feels bad that all three of them are there because they’re worried about him.
“i’m good. really. it was bound to happen, right? why would mnet miss an opportunity to set this up?” he does gotta give them that. the only thing that could make it worse is if they add in coaches and he runs into familiar faces more directly than he might today. his plans when it comes to that is to use his prior knowledge of the building to his advantage but… how far can that get him in the long run? it’s not like he wants to avoid anyone… ah, scratch that. he literally admitted it in one of his previous performances— the performance that got him his first win this season and set the stage for the pressure that’s currently on his shoulders.
he is avoiding them so he’s thinking of the best route to take and see the least amount of trainees and staff possible— “did you write a letter this time?”
“huh?”
“don’t you do it every time?” dabin asks from the front passenger seat. “when you t—” seik makes a sound of disapproval that he passes off as a loud grunt and jaeseop’s punching his leg even though he should keep his hand on the gear shift or the steering wheel at least.
dabin does have a point and minho chuckles, leans an arm against the window as he looks out. they’re close now. no going back now. ironically, that’s what he thought when he left the last time too. he thought that was it, that he wasn’t gonna walk through those doors again. whether it’s punishment or to encourage him, he hasn’t decided yet, hasn’t determined it, hasn’t found  the answer.
there’s no letter this time. it feels too early, too soon, in the show, and in general. he doesn’t know the outcome yet, what could he say? what would he say? the truth is, he isn’t sure she read either letter from the last two times anyway but he doesn’t mention it at all when the car is parked and they look to him expectantly.
“uh… alright, thanks for the ride. i’m going.”
dabin’s whining is overshadowed by the grip seik has on his arm before he opens the door. “you know what to do.” it’s too open-ended to any outsider but minho smiles because he gets it, because friends like this, friends he’s had for years and know him well enough that five words is enough to settle him down enough to walk inside, are the only ones he should’ve let know about his relationship. he knows better now. he can walk in with that knowledge confidently, even if it’s the only thing he’s confident about when he does.
when he reaches the sidewalk on the same side of the street as sphere, jaeseop presses the horn, yelling out the window, “check your backpack later when you get a moment!”
… shit, he didn’t realize until now that jaeseop was all over his backpack earlier. god, he hopes it’s family friendly. heejin’s only a year older than nakyung after all and kyul’s a few years older than them. forget the camera, he’s more concerned about what they’ll think.
[oh boy, does he throw that notion out the window real quick]
his mood is more stable when he’s inside. oddly enough, being in a sphere practice roomdoes make him want to practice hard. he’d do it anyway but there’s something about the familiarity that hits him and hits him hard. memories come and go with each stretch and small exercise he goes through while waiting.
why he was he there so early? he feels like he’s been waiting for hours [of course it’s not but a restless mind exaggerates more than ever]
running around the room, push-ups, pull-ups, you name it, he’s tried it to pass the time. at some point, he’s just laid flat out, arms tucked in, rolling across the floor in the hopes it’ll also inspire him to think of more to offer for their routine. it doesn’t end up working but hey five more minutes gone just like that!
his phone rings and he runs into a slide at the last moment, hand digging into his jacket pocket as he’s sprawled across the floor again. “damn,” a glance at the camera in the corner. “can i say that?”
he sends jaeseop’s call to voicemail like nothing, disappointed it wasn’t one of his teammates saying they’re on the way but his phone goes off again and it’s still jae.
“come on, man— what? my back— oh.” he forgot already. looking over at his backpack, he swallows thickly. it can’t be that bad right? and maybe he ought’a open it now while they’re not here.
what he finds is more ridiculous than he could’ve guessed. a fucking clown wig. are they kidding? the icing on the cake has got to be the card with a picture of a clown and a cut-out of his face pasted atop it. of course. of course, and he skims the note for now, rolling his eyes when he sees the mention of a letter to baek jiyoung— no wonder dabin tried bringing it up. to think he thought seik and jae were stopping dabin to protect his feelings.
despite that, he can’t believe this most of all: that he put it on and he’s laughing. one line was clear before he put the card away. “we heard there’s a clown show at sphere.” those punks.
but hey… can’t say they’re wrong either and oh man wouldn’t heejin and kyul at least laugh? it’s funny, right? before he can answer that too, it’s too late when they come in together and he’s biting his inner cheek. shit. when kyul asks how long he’s been sitting there, he has no answer except,
“long enough to put this wig on?”
day by day, sphere is easier to come back to when he thinks of his teammates. even the other trio sharing the practice room makes it fun and between all the food they bring in, kyungsoo’s quiche on his mind days later, to now when somehow the discussion turned to how much he can lift because bro do you even lift—and stupidly he’s lifting kyungsoo, doing squat reps just to prove a point until he ends up doing push-ups on the floor with heejin and kyul sitting on his back.
guess he found his next talent to show off if he’s asked.
his attachment grows day by day too and he’s happier seeing it in their eyes too, in how he and kyul naturally, wordlessly have this agreement to protect heejin and it shows most in the moment they’re practicing the first take with the “vr headset.” it’s custom made but should work ou—
kyul’s yelling for him to go to heejin first by the time he fully comprehends, because heejin is cute with her hair all askew anyway isn’t she, but gotta protect her image. their princess can’t be exposed like this and he’s covering her face, blocking her from the camera with his tall frame as he tries to smooth out her hair. “uh… i’m sorry. sh— shhhhaall we fix this?” minho nervously chuckles to cover up his almost swear. “kyul, you’d be better at this,” he calls behind him but he knows it’s pointless because she’s busy keeping the camera occupied. he forgot goggle hair could be a thing.
    ●●●●●●      ONE STEP CLOSER, JUST BEFORE THE RECORDING — 7월 25일      ●●●●●●
his mind feels rattled and when he listens to kyul and heejin talking before the show, he feels better. calmer. more like he’s not all the labels tied to his name. more than the netizen comments, more than the words of the other contestants, and more than the expectations of anyone outside the three of them. when he sees them, he just wants to enjoy this performance because he’s genuinely fond of them. it’s not that he doesn’t feel as fond of nakyung and seunghun, because he does, but it’s because this time he had to worry more about a group, because the concerns of getting along with one person is doubled when it comes to a trio.
“hey, i know it’s not much but… i have something for you guys,” the boxes are both colors he associates well with them. he has no logic for it but he thinks of heejin as pink, maybe it’s because she also reminds him of sakura, of nakyung, of both girls also in the competition that he feels the need to protect. when it comes to kyul, he thinks of purple although unfortunately the stones on her gift aren’t of the same color. “you know, since you guys are the princess and a huntress… i know the bow and arrow is from a game but hey… she’s also badass right?”
 ●●●●●●      NEXT ON STAGE, MINHO, JIEQIONG, AND HEEJIN,  EP. 5 — 7월 25일      ●●●●●●
seeing the stage after being prepped on it and asking questions, wondering if it’ll be exactly as they pictured and work for their performance— it also brings a certain level of calm to him that’s swallowed up by nerves and excitement when they’re called up. he’d looked out and saw the trio that shared the room with him, sakura, nakyung, seunghun— ah, even daniel. it should make him more nervous, they’re all competition, but he thinks about it again and all he wants is to have fun, just like he did before. he wants this to be the best stage they can perform and, most of all, he wants to know their hard work comes together just as perfectly on camera as it did for all the tens, dozens, maybe even a hundred times, that they went through it in practice.
they’re the royal court and he tries not to laugh at his role, truth be told. doesn’t it suit him? no matter what his sister said earlier in the week, no matter if anyone’s laughing at him, he’ll laugh too from now on the way he has been for most of his life— because the one thing he can control is how he reacts to things and right now, all he wants to do is react to the music once it starts up.

kyul moves when he does once heejin has the glasses on and he’s moving swiftly, trying to beat her there as he tells her, “no, it’s my song. she chose yours last time!” he slips right into the role of a video game character wanting to be chosen, dancing before kyul can and proudly too.

coming off as proud is something he barely has to act for because he is. even the lyrics match up perfectly for this mashup and each step, each swing of his arm feels electrified. he’s back to controlling the current and what motivates him most is how heejin controls the melody, the lyrics, how kyul controls the beat. how all of them dance and sing in harmony until the game changes.

looking at each other, they bring heejin into the game and he reaches to take the controller from her, grinning until she’s stolen away by kyul.
he’s the perfect picture of a sulking kid until he rounds them, sneaking up and coaxing heejin to his side. the two songs blend together more towards the end, the lyrics melting into one, and they dance together, not in unison exactly but as a unit.
the last run of chorus is meant to be more fun, a celebration of heejin joining them in the game and he’s sliding on the glasses, controller waved around in his hand as he sways, looking to heejin in the center with a smile.
he learned a lot from the both of them this week. most of all, without knowing, heejin might’ve been pulled into the game but they pulled him out of the one he was losing inside his head.

190725 MGA SEASON 5 + EPISODE FIVE + CONTESTANT #5050 ⟨ ━━ ❀ ° PART TWO: INTERVIEW ⟩
MENTIONED: @rksuwoong, @rkyq, @rkmason, @rkheejin, @rkkyungsoo, @rkxbin
Q & A    WELCOME BACK! WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ON LAST WEEK’S RESULTS?
“i was really sad to see some people go.” she admits, raising a hand to play with a few strands of hair. “we’re getting close to the end so i know people have to be eliminated, but it’s sad. i’m glad me and suwoong got by, but still can’t help feel bad? especially since some really talented people left last week!” she pauses to let out a sigh. “i have a feeling this week will be the same. but that’s how this works, i guess.” the woman manages to crack a smile and let out a tiny laugh, but her heart still feels heavy.
last week. yuqi faced elimination unfortunately - something that kyulkyung would personally disagree with, but she knows how this works. it could be her this week, it’s just the life of the competition.
Q & A    YOU MENTIONED WANTING FIRST LAST WEEK - WAS IT DISAPPOINTING WHEN YOU AND SUWOONG WEREN’T IN THE TOP 3?
“...” kyulkyung hesitates for a moment, looking down at her feet as she contemplates her next answer. of course she was let down, but at the same time she was relieved to still advance. there were worse things than missing out in the top 3. “top 3 is a lot of people’s goal - who doesn’t want to be the best? but, i’m still really happy that i wasn’t eliminated, so i can’t complain.”
Q & A    THIS WEEK WE SWITCHED IT UP WITH TRIOS. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF YOUR TEAMMATES?
“they were great.” the woman replies instantly, a smile quickly spreading across her glossed lips. “there were times i forgot this was a competition. i had so much fun and i ate a lot of food.” and what’s better than that?
Q & A    WHAT ABOUT THE TRIO THAT YOU SHARED THE ROOM WITH? HOW WERE THEY? DID THEY INTERFERE WITH YOUR PRACTICING?
“they were just as great as my teammates, really.” she nods, “they didn’t bother us, and kyungsoo even brought some food!! i really showed a hungry side of me this week.” the woman lets a tiny laugh bubble past her lips, but her cheeks flare up in response. she didn’t realize how much she let herself go this week, as in her being so open about eating constantly, but dancing is pretty exhausting. can you really blame her for wanting burgers? “i also got to facetime suwoong so that was fun - oh, and changbin was really kind. i liked our practice room!!”
Q & A    AND REFLECTING ON YOUR TRIO’S PERFORMANCE, HOW DO YOU THINK YOU DID TODAY?
“i think we did good, it was supposed to be a fun performance so i hope everyone liked watching it. we had a lot of fun practicing it so i hope it was received well on stage, especially since minho has done so well this season. i also got to sing which was pretty fun - i bet that surprised you, didn’t it?”
END    ALRIGHT, THANK YOU - THAT’S IT FOR TODAY!

MGA Season 5 ୨୧ Episode 5 ୨୧ Trios Dancing and rapping to Fire Truck with: @rknak and @rkpwj
After working with a friend last week, she was back to working with strangers. Though that didn't have to be bad, not at all, as long as they'd get along and work well. The worst possible scenarios were getting along so well, they'd get distracted more than practise, or not getting along at all and not getting anywhere either.
Luckily, there didn't seem to be any problems in her team – the girl seemed to pick a weird mood between two or three of the two teams up though. She wasn't sure if her intuition was right there, but then she didn't care too much about what was going on, as long as it didn't involve her and the team would work well and not be distracted every ten seconds.
Choosing a song somehow seemed to get more and more difficult with each round. They'd have to find and agree on something all three of them were both comfortable with and had the skills for. Finding out however, that they were all dancers, made Chaeryeong relax. At least they could finally put a focus on that.
A few choices were thrown around – some of which she really liked but were already taken – and they eventually settled on one of her suggestions. Fire Truck was energetic and loud. A good choice for a flashy stage to get attention, but also an obnoxious option when sharing a practise room. The other team's choice wasn't exactly quiet either though and she could only hope there would be no petty taking turns in turning the music louder than the other group. She had neither time nor nerve for childish stuff like that.
Eventually they managed to divide lines and all that, so they could properly get to practising. The dance was easily burned into her brain, she just needed to make her movements precise, to perfect every little detail. And of course she had to manage her rap well, which would prove much more difficult.
In an interesting “turn” of events, she started spending a good chunk of the time she wasn't practising with Suwoong from the other team. The both of them seemed to be a bit more chatty than the others and she thought they clicked well. It was nice to get a good distraction from the worries the show brought with it and he was fun to talk to. So fun that she felt like she knew his whole life story at the end of the week and she'd even talked quite a bit about herself. It made her realise even more than during the previous week that she needed to be around people and socialise more. So the trio teams and shared practise rooms were pretty much perfect for her.
She also enjoyed the time spent with her team, though she felt like it took a bit longer to properly connect with them. But the time they went shopping and had lunch was nice, and she felt closer to them.
Overall—even though she came early and stayed late almost every day—she had a good time preparing for this performance. Sure it was tough and took a lot out of her, plus she's never trained this much for anything before, but her years of experience were surely coming in handy. She knew her limits, how much she could push them without fainting or anything of the sort and knew when she should take a break. She also made a point of not sleeping over at the practise room, but going home every night, so she could properly rest and recharge at home.
She even forgot about the cameras a lot, only making sure to wave and bow every morning and night. Sometimes during beaks, she would position herself in front of one and went through expressions for the performance, featuring both serious and comedic attempts. Another time she talked to it (though that had felt a little weird, so she didn't repeat that), asking whether they were watching the team's practise well and if they saw the good progress they made.
The girl could hardly wait for their group to be called. She sat still, her eyes scanning the many groups before them, observing their every move and studying their expressions. They were all good, really good. On one hand that was bad – it would be easier to win this, if her opponents were weaker, but on the other hand that would be boring. She wanted a challenge.
One of the performances that really stood out to her was the group performing “Love Shot”. It was one of the options her group had considered as well, but the song was already taken. Yeji stood out to her the most. The dance was different from the original and she thought the other might have choreographed it herself. It was something she hadn't much skill in herself.
As the team before them stopped, she knew it was their turn every second now and it felt like electricity shot through her, all the way down to the tips of her fingers and toes. A smile tugged at her lips, but the girl did her best to suppress it. While strings seemed attached to her trying to pull her up to the stage, she wouldn't let herself feel too excited before the performance was over and until she knew for sure that they'd done well.
Get it lifted
They shouted together right at the beginning and she felt the excitement buzz through her veins again, a crooked smile finally pushing through. And she was glad to be starting first. She didn't want to wait any longer.
Fire truck What’re you looking at Mr. fireman on the floor Make a fire, I’ll cool the heat I’ll make this unhappy place even hotter When I hear the sirens, I feel
Chaeryeong moved smoothly, like she's never done anything else in her life. Her moves were exact, obviously practised again and again and again. Her rap, too, was being executed well. Her pronunciation precise, but not so that it was taking away from the flow. She'd often seen performers start off weakly from not being quite into the song yet, or whatever, hence Chaeryeong had practised the beginning extra hard. After all it carried much weight–if she messed up now, interest in the rest of the performance could be lowered, attention not undivided. If they couldn't keep interest up until the end, they shouldn't even consider being one of the top 3 performances and in the girls eyes, they should at least manage that. At the very, very least be in the top 5.
The performance passed, her dancing continuously exact and her rap, while definitely not perfect and much more difficult than the last, still surprising even herself. Her lower voice was surely a good asset in this case and she's learned a lot about rapping from the past weeks. She wasn't lucky that the progress showed, after all she'd worked hard for it, practising endless hours. It was earned.
Yeah be anywhere, everywhere Just call me Look at Look at how, just like playing with fire Bling, I’ll appear, Just Blink for me I’ll cool down your anger
With the gaze of someone who knows what they want and who's completely aware of their own skills, the girl flows through her second longer part, sliding over the floor confidently, oozing charisma. She'd practised this so often, sought out the best ways to appeal to judges and tv-audience. The girl knew what she was doing. Her body precisely placed for every step, while her rap could be improved, but her expression seemed to say “So what? I'll improve with every step I take, never stopping. You'll see.”
The big moves and slight cockiness were quite the opposite of her usual calm and collected behaviour, and as she rapped the part, she fittingly winked at the judges.
(Ey yea yea yea yea) Hands up if you feeling the vibe now (Ey yea yea yea yea) One step two steps go
She skipped left and right, light as a feather, making it look like the moves were almost spontaneous, even when she was leaving nothing to chance that she didn't have to.
After her rebellious child-years, she'd grown to control herself as she grew older, into her teen years, she learned how to behave in a way that would get her what she wanted without being obvious about it. She learned to study diligently, to put time and effort into what she had to, pushing through without letting herself falter. Now she was glad about it more than ever.
For the remainder of the song, she continued having a few solo lines here and there and many shared ones with the two others. She always knew where they were, even if they weren't directly in her vision. She found that important, to make sure they looked like a team. So they were dancing together, rather than each doing their own thing. And the girl kept in mind that during every part she wasn't centre, she had to keep her expression up and still give it her all, or else she'd be overlooked easily.
Once they left her burst of energy left her and she felt a little dizzy. She ignored it as best as she could and smiled at Suwoong, who's team would perform afterwards. Even though she might've overdone it a little, she knew this is what she wanted to do. As often as she could. The girl couldn't imagine not standing on stage again, practically craving it like water. And there wasn't even an audience outside the judges yet, but form the dancing competitions in her past, she knew how it felt to be cheered on. And while she was confident in her skills, she really hoped to make it to the next round.

episode five interview with 💖 sakura miyawaki! mentions: @hyojinrk, @danielxrk, @rkmason, @rkyuri, @rkxuxi, @rkpjy, @rkheejin, @rkkyul, @rkyeji, @ericxrk, @rktaeyang trigger warnings: anxiety levels.
it feels that the interview is more nerve-wracking than being on the stage and performing. maybe it's because she's in a room all by herself with no one else other than an interviewer and a camera, recording logs of her personal answers to the questions. before she's taken to sit down on the chair, she takes a couple of moments to relax and get a grip of herself before this anxiety got to her. a couple of deep breaths is the way to go. once she's led to the door entrance, she enters the room and sits down. "hiya!" she gives a small smile to the interviewer.
"what did you think of the results last week?"
"the results last week.." she trails off, contemplating carefully before she gives a statement with clarity. "i actually expected more people to be eliminated.." she lets out a relieved sigh, content enough that many of the others weren't off the show. "i'm glad people got to stay here! makes it worthwhile, you know?"
"how was it like working with your trio?"
she had nothing but positive things to say about xuxi and yuri, it was fun hanging out with them and putting together a wonderful performance that she enjoyed dancing to! "i love them! it was great, yuri is my powerpuff girl buddy! and xuxi, i didn't meet him until now but let me tell you, he's a wonderful soul and a really sweet person!" she isn't the kind of person out to make bad blood at all. "i'm glad we all got along." she smiles, appreciating the time she shared with yuri and xuxi sincerely.
"did practising in the trc building make a difference?"
she was so jubilant once she heard the news that she was given the opportunity to have practise sessions in the trc building, a dream company of her's. "oh, it was so big! and they have nice things everywhere, high-quality equipment." she was impressed when she got her hands on it, it looked expensive and all.
"how did you react when you were put in a group with trc?"
sakura has a wide smile on her face, she couldn't ask for anything more! "i'm just happy that i got to be there, you know? tiger jk is my idol! he's a really good rapper and being in there is an honour. really." the feeling was exciting, almost too good to believe that it was true, that she was stepping in the building that day and practising. "i was fangirling inside!" she chuckles lightly.
"did the trio that shared the room with you ever interfere on your plannings?"
"no not at all! i loved being around them. they were super nice and friendly too. i don't think anyone was out there at each other's throats, honestly speaking." sakura meant every part of it, she just didn't trust mnet's editing is all ( from what she's heard but she's learned to be careful of what she says! ).
"were there any performances that you really liked?"
"i was captivated by heejin's voice when i heard it, she has a pretty voice! jieqiong's a really good dancer and mason's really good at rapping. he has a lot of experience. i look up to him too!" she had much more to say than that, she did stay for the whole thing to watch the performance. "yeji, daniel, and jinyoung. when they performed, their energy complemented each other's and they were like a perfect blend."
"hyojin, eric, and taeyang! i think the song they chose worked really well with their voices! i think they ate the cd."
she's told that her time is up. sakura thanks the interviewer and gives a courteous bow before she leaves the building.

✞ WHAT ABOUT YOUR APPEARANCE IN THE TOP 3? *
( * mentioned, some very briefly:  @rkxsungwoon @rkminhyun @hyojinrk @rkheejin @rkmason @rkpjy @rkyeji @rkkenta @jungeunxrk @rkchwev @rksuwoong )
with time to decompress, and time to sit through performances of dancers far better than him, daniel's confidence slowly drains, and by the lead up to results, he's more nervous than he was before the performance. he fidgets-- leg bounces, other nervous ticks, but is teammates are there as a comfort now, no longer a harsh force, and he wonders if they're nervous too. he wonders if they're thinking he'll drag them into the bottom five, and worried he'll stay over them even though he was clearly the least talented on that stage. that worries daniel, too. he's ready to go home. he's content leaving on this note, but he doesn't want that for the others.
his name is called for the interview soon enough, and it's only once he arrives that he realizes the questions they'll likely ask. oh boy.
"what did you think of the results last week?"
whoop, there it is. it's always the first question. anticipated. "it was disappointing, honestly," he admits, eyes downcast. "i understand why the judges made the decisions they did, but i was hoping they would overlook sungwoon and eunji's mistake in favor of their talent. i saw it coming, but it didn't make it easier to deal with. minhyun hyung...i already dealt with the shock of him being eliminated, so it wasn't as bad? i still wanted him to be on stage again, though." ah, yes. that was why minhyun's elimination wasn't as bad. indeed.
"what about your appearance in the top three?"
his mouth hangs open in surprise for a moment, but he laughs to cover it up. "oh, yeah, that!" he chirps. "honestly, i kind of forgot about it...that day was a lot, but i was really proud hyojin, and of myself. that was my favorite performance on the mgas so far, and i'm happy the judges saw in it what i did. i was happy we could both make it to the top three for the first time together, too. hyojin really deserves it."
the question: did daniel deserve it? when he thinks on it now, he thinks so. he worked so hard on that arrangement, and on the flow of all of the songs with hyojin's help; that was just as much him as his partner, and he wants to believe he helped elevate hyojin, and vice versa, an equal exchange. in his performance with heejin, he feared he would weigh her down, or that she was the only thing that kept him afloat.
"i let myself forget about that accomplishment, but when i found myself again during the week, i realized...i made it into the top three with minho hyung." a realization, and wide eyes. he looks directly at the camera. "minho-ssi? minhol sunbaenim! can i call you hyung?" the concern is evident on his face, but he breaks into a well meaning smile, gaze softening. "i realized i was in the top three with him, and neither of us won, so...we were on the same level for that week? i know i'm not on the same level as minho hyung in general, but the fact that even our duos were means a lot to me. it made me think that i really might belong here after all."
"we saw how the eliminations impacted your attitude during the week. how was it working with your teammates? "
it sounds so ominous, and is a reminder that soon, everyone else will see that, too, sungwoon included. he wishes he could take it back. he doesn't want sungwoon to see all of the criticism he received during the week and think it was his fault, but that's all too late now. "i let my emotions get the best of me," he admits with a nod. "i started thinking that i didn't deserve to be there anymore. it wasn't the first time i thought it, but this week was the first time i've ever been in the mgas without sungwoon. last season, we got eliminated in the same episode, and i always thought that was how it should be, but--" he shakes his head, and cuts himself off too early. no one wants to hear about that anymore. jinyoung and yeji certainly didn't. "i didn't have any confidence, or motivation, and i was a burden to my team. yeji and jinyoung were harsh with me, but it was deserved."
he remembers their argument on the first day, and his sheer terror, and actually laughs looking back on it now. "i didn't really think there was anything wrong with how i was acting at the time. i thought i was justified, so i was shocked when jinyoung called me out on it, and was so..." mean? no. "strict. jinyoung and i used to know each other a long time ago, but didn't keep in touch, and i think we both...changed since then. yeji is my cousin, so i expected more support from her, but she was just as harsh with me," and he laughs again. "they both basically told me i was being ridiculous. even sungwoon told me i was being ridiculous, so eventually i learned that i wasn't justified in acting that way. thankfully, it wasn't too late."
"they helped me a lot in the end, especially yeji. i thought she was being so mean at first, but in the end she gave me more confidence, i think. i wouldn't have been able to stand on stage in the end without them-- not just because i needed them for the performance, but because i needed their help, too."
he pauses, and pouts a little bit. "i just hope jinyoung hyung isn't still mad..."
"and how do you think that performance went?"
"as well as it could," is his response, smile a mix between sheepish and a little wry. "i know i'm far from the best dancer. maybe i'm closer to the worst dancer than the best," and he laughs. "but i did my best, and i think we put together a unique, interesting performance in the end. everyone got a moment to shine at what they do best, including me with my creativity. i feel like it was an undercurrent in the whole thing, even if it wasn't front and center like it usually is. then we all came together at the end, and i felt...powerful? maybe people will laugh at me, but i hope at least they'll be surprised. hopefully i looked cool apart from the dancing?" he pauses, as if he's going to get some kind of approval, eyebrows raised, like he's expectant, then laughs again, delayed and a little nervous.
"how did things go between you and the other team sharing the practice room in nova?"
"well, overall, i think," daniel answers with a nod. "i like to think by the end of the week, we were closer to each other than all of the other teams sharing practice rooms," and he grins. this is a fact he's proud of, even if this is a competition. many will say they didn't come on the mgas to make friends, they came to win, but daniel definitely came to make friends. "i think kenta being on the other team helped with that, not just because he's one of my best friends, but because he's just...like that. he's a moodmaker, i think you call it? he makes everything bright and warm, and is good at easing tensions and keeps the mood high and fun even when things are stressful. even though he wasn't on my team, i could feel that in the entire practice room, and things were tenser on my side of the room, for sure. when i needed it, he shared that with me, too," and he smiles softly. it's always easy to talk about empty enigma-- too easy, to the point that all of the interviewers are probably tired of it, so he takes that realization as his sign to cut that short.
"jungeun-ssi..." he lets his voice trail off, and his expression grows distant. "she..snapped at me. she's really scary!" and he laughs again. "it was strange, to have criticism from both of my teammates and someone else, but i told her i would get better so i could beat her, and i think it strengthened my resolve. i know i can't beat her yet-- that i'm not anywhere close, but i'll keep practicing, and one day i can. i guess if our team finishes ahead of theirs it counts, right?" and he grins, but he doesn't wish that for them. he wants them above the safety cutline, because he fears if they aren't, kenta will be the one to leave for it, and if he's going to stay in the competition, he wants kenta there too.
"i don't know as much about...vernon?" he's hesitant, but he thinks he recalls that being the name the other boy preferred. "but he was really nice! he brought in food for everyone, even love shot team, and i really appreciated it, especially on the days when i was really down and my team was being harsh with me," and he smiles, a little fond. "i hope we can be friends from now on!"
"any thoughts on the performances this week?"
daniel gives a small shake of his head. "i don't think i have any right to comment today, based on what i showed. everyone gave a strong performance. they just keep getting better every week, as they should." a pause, and he's only compelled to go forward out of fondness for someone he'd like to consider a new friend. "except, suwoong? did he rap today?" daniel blinks in disbelief, because that much was perhaps even more unexpected than daniel dancing. "i don't know if it was a rap. if it was meant to be, it still wasn't one," and he holds a critical expression before he breaks into a smile. "but he's still good looking, and us good looking people can get away with things like that, right? right?"
"is there anyone you're certain will be eliminated today?"
daniel smiles, and says his now signature, "nothing is guaranteed," but truthfully, he does have an answer to this one. "i would be surprised if i don't go home," he admits. "i didn't reach the same standard set by the others in my group, and i have such little experience dancing that i know it stuck out badly in the performance one way or another. everyone's strength was highlighted in our performance this week, but it highlighted my weakness as well." he's thoughtful, and in his opinion, just honest. it was one of his fears during the week, but if he didn't care if he stayed or went home, what did he really have to lose? there's certainly something for him at home. "if it happens, i'll be okay with it, really," he assures, and flashes a smile. "i'm happy with my time on the show this year, and what i got to show."

⭐️MGA 5 EPISODE 5 ↪ JINIELJI performing Love Shot by EXO performance details: x outfit: x
“so, please, welcome our returning contestants to the stage!”
for the first time since the beginning of this competition, jinyoung walks on stage with a bright, assumed smile as he bows to everyone applauding him and jackson. the other two teams did very well, and he doesn't doubt it was a close call. minhyun and jeonghan did, after all, perform a similar type of vocal-heavy song. as usual, it's hard to say what made the judges lean in their direction but jinyoung will satisfy himself with the bare minimum of knowing they did better. he knows this will create two very different reactions. those who believe they were unjustifiably eliminated and very happy to see them come back, and those who would rather have seen one of the other contestants step on that stage. jinyoung knows the idea of it isn't exactly fair, not only to the two duos going home today but all of the others who didn't even have a chance to redeem themselves.
but it's part of the game jinyoung has agreed to play and until the end, he will keep his head held high and refuse to let anybody dictate whether or not he deserves to be here. after losing everything and returning triumphant, he thinks he doesn't have anything more to lose. so he'll work hard, and prove them they were right in giving him a second chance. jinyoung hugs jackson out of pure excitement and emotion. he could not have asked for a better partner to pull this off, both complementing each other perfectly. jinyoung notices yugyeom's happy reaction, too, as well as sia's. they both seem ecstatic by his comeback and the singer goes to them as soon as he is allowed to, pulling his roommate into a warm embrace. he rarely lets his emotions show like this but today is a special occasion. he congratulates sia for her deserved first place, curious to see if she will maintain this top spot for episodes to come. it's always difficult to know what goes through the judges' mind. hopefully neither of them disappoint them later on. but if they did, it wouldn't be for a lack of skill.
the idea of trios is a bit underwhelming. this season promised a ton of surprises, never seen before events and so far, it feels a bit repetitive. but having a third person can also spice things up, challenge them, and allow and even more diversity of talents to shine on stage at the same time. it's easy to stand out in a duo, but the more people join the party, the more some will fade into the background. three is still a rather small number, not to mention they have three minutes this time to make sure everyone gets enough spotlight.
exchanging information with daniel and yeji goes relatively well. there's something about daniel's expression that leaves jinyoung puzzled, not sure if he's acting like this out of sheer awkwardness or because he's unhappy about the pairings. either way, they have no choice but to work together. he doesn't think more of it until the next day when they all come to nova for their first practice. jinyoung has mixed feelings about coming back here. the halls are familiar, but he's an outsider now, no longer part of this family. all of the trainees he trained with, save for a few, are preparing for debut. so if he were to come back, which he doesn't wish, it wouldn't be the same at all.
he enters with yeji who got here same time he did, and they settle into the practice room together. he thinks he knows where he recognizes her from, but does not see the importance of pointing it out. it won't help their performance in any way, and it's not like their meeting had meaning in the first place. she seems a lot more focused and determined than he would have imagined, too. maybe he had that preconception because of her younger age, but it is soon thrown out the window. clearly she is here to fight for first place, same as him. jinyoung greets the members of the other team as they arrive, too, but doesn't go out of his way to meddle with them. they're not enemies, of course, but they are rivals, and he doesn't know any of them personally. it's almost a blessing to him. as much as he likes his friends, they could potentially be a distraction.
they start looking up songs together. jinyoung doesn't have a set idea on what he wishes to do this week, as it's better to discuss these things as a team. they all have ideas, and he doesn't claim his to be better or more deserving. he won't however, go along with everything they suggest, and won't be scared to speak up if he disagrees. if they all have the same open-mindedness and involvment, no one should be left bitter or unsatisfied.
daniel finally joins them, and they exchange a small greeting, but the atmosphere is just as gloomy as it was yesterday during filming. it's quite obvious that something is off with daniel. jinyoung hasn't had the chance to spend time with him in pretty much forever, the last time when they were both children in busan, but from what he's seen, daniel is a friendly guy. not today, though. it's hard to really describe how uncomfortable the situation is, but he knows yeji feels it too. he decides not to pay too much attention to it right away. maybe daniel will put himself together and leave whatever negative feelings he has behind so they can do what they're here to do.
it doesn't go that way, however.
“daniel? are you listening? we need your opinion on this.” jinyoung says. he's not irritated (yet) but doesn't want to waste time coddling anyone here. he's the big brother often enough in his every day life without the need to be one here. at least not during practice. they can vent however they want outside of this building, but as soon as they step inside they should all put their game faces on.
daniel is caught off guard, confirming that he indeed wasn't paying any attention to whatever jinyoung and yeji were saying, and that reaction alone is bad enough, but what comes out of his mouth next... "i just don't have any ideas yet."  daniel responds quietly. now if jinyoung was not annoyed because, he definitely is now. "you don't have a single idea?" yeji retorts. "we need your input on this, oppa." the girl is right. jinyoung, looking at her, nods approvingly before turning to daniel. "for now you don't even need ideas, we just want to know what you think of these songs." jinyoung sounds like he's losing patience, though still very poised in appearance. "it's really not that hard." is this a hint of annoyance finally peeking through? either way, it's enough for daniel to apologize a few times, but it doesn't convince jinyoung. he doesn't care about an apology if the younger's behavior doesn't change.
and then they get a small explanation. daniel mentions his friends, and that he's not at his best right now. it doesn't take a genius to connect the dots. so that's what it's all about. his friends being eliminated? jinyoung feels his body tense up. the annoyance turns into anger. the audacity the boy has to come in here with a pitiful face on, whining about his friends after jinyoung himself had to fight to come back in this darned competition. not to mention they all, so far, lost someone they cared about. are empty enigma members some superior friends that losing them means the world ended or something? he glares at daniel, not a single of trace of compassion visible on his face. "if you give up now you realize you’re proving everyone right? that you were here just for your band and that without them you can’t cope?” he knows he sounds harsh but honestly, he doesn't care. if that's what it takes to snap daniel out of this pity party he's throwing himself, jinyoung will gladly take the blame.
yeji, to his surprise, takes his side. since they're cousins he thought maybe she would think he went too far, but he really is starting to respect her drive. she adds that he will feel better if he knows he did his best to help, to which jinyoung agrees. now, whether they managed to pull daniel out of his daze, he's not sure yet but they at least succeed in having him participate more actively. they finally decide on exo as an artist, hesitating between love shot and another song. now, jinyoung isn't exactly a fan of this group but it's a team effort, and it can't always be about his own music taste. it also fits the kind of concept they were aiming for. something charismatic and groovy, which love shot is perfect for especially if they rearrange it to a slower pace.
daniel finally votes for love shot, not before being an indecisive burden - much to jinyoung's despair - and it's time to advance to the next stage. they now need to decide if they will just perform the song as it is, or if they will make appropriate changes where need be in order to highlight each of their strengths. daniel quickly mentions that he's not a good dancer, a detail already known by both jinyoung and yeji, but the older points out that while a singing and rapping performance would not be a bother to him, it might come as a slight disadvantage to yeji. not because she cannot do anything else, but as a team they should at least show that they can dance what jinyoung sees as a simple choreography. the chorus especially is not very hard to master from what he's seen earlier.
yeji takes a small break to get water now that they've decided on a song, leaving a very awkward daniel and jinyoung alone together. or, almost alone if they take into account the other team going about their business on the other side of the room. jinyoung wonders if there's tension among them too, but so far no one has raised their voice. lucky.
"you're still quiet," jinyoung points out. granted, he's being quiet too right now, but so far daniel hasn't been participating a lot. it should be give and take, not just taking. daniel assures him that it's because he was thinking of the performance, to which the singer gives him the benefit of the doubt. he's not here to insult daniel. he doesn't want to fight him, but he doesn't have any desire to be nice when the other looks like he wants to be anywhere else but here. that alone is, frankly, more insulting than anything jinyoung has said so far. "so, what were you thinking then?" he pushes daniel to talk, hoping it will finally work, hoping they'll finally get some meat around the dry bone he's been since the beginning.
he does share he feels as if dancing would only highlight his weakness instead of his strengths, which jinyoung can understand. but there's always a way to include dancing somehow. he doesn't think they can avoid it, at least not for the entire performance. when daniel mentions that it would eliminate him, jinyoung almost points out it seems like it's exactly what he wants. with the way he's been acting, it's clear that daniel's heart and mind are with his departed friends instead of with them. instead, he just replies "then what would your rather show?" and although a little dry, it's a valid question. if he doesn't want to dance, what does he want to do? it's up to him to convince them, not the opposite.
but instead of a substantial answer, all jinyoung gets is yet another 'i'm a poor, pitiful, untalented boy who can't do anything so it doesn't matter if we lose i'll just go home to my little band.' or well, that's exactly how he hears it despite not being daniel's own words. he says he doesn't have anything to show, that it'll be exactly what eric said. and honestly, jinyoung barely has any idea what he's referring to. probably a comment sohn youngjae made in his interview, or to him personally. but jinyoung did hear bribes about some people questioning empty enigma's motives to be in the competition. which he paid no attention to until... today.
his busan dialect comes out when he speaks up, clear evidence of his growing anger. whenever he gets too upset, he drops the seoul speech unconsciously. “and you think the little kid has something better to show? take what he said and use it. fight, don’t just stand there and let him and all the others decide who you are. because i’m honestly starting to believe them,” he wishes he didn't have to be this hard on him, but jinyoung has had enough of the moping around and self-loathing. they have a job to do and he will be damned if they end up in bottom five and are sent home because daniel spent the entire week crying his friends. unless they die, he better pull himself together and stop looking so defeated.
daniel retorts that jinyoung doesn't know who he is. alright, fine, maybe he doesn't. the memories he kept of daniel happened more than ten years ago. the man standing before him is not the little boy he used to know. the little boy who gave jinyoung no chance to know who he is, because he left without leaving an address. and quite honestly, jinyoung had not thought about him in a very, very long time until he saw him perform on stage a couple weeks back. and the humiliation he felt when it took daniel this long to recognize him what not one of a rational adult. it was the betrayed child inside of him coming back to hate daniel for what he did, despite it not being his fault.
they're not friends anymore, he thinks. they just remember being friends, and that means nothing. certainly not to daniel who is too busy thinking of his band members to see what's in front of him: his very own cousin, and his childhood friend who wanted nothing more than to work alongside him and win this round. so no, he has no idea who daniel is. because so far all daniel has shown is how weak-willed he is. and that's not something jinyoung wants in a friend.
“if you want to show you’re your own person, it’s time to prove it. you’re creative and good-looking; put these assets to work. show us who you are.” he insists on the last few words. he has nothing personal against daniel. the adult jinyoung does not resent him for leaving back then. he understands. but he will not accept any more of this circus show. and yeji's voice can be heard in unison with his own, pushing daniel into a corner. now he has a choice. he's with them, or against them.
"did you improve since last year at all?" now hopefully this will set daniel off. jinyoung doesn't mind if he upsets him. at least it will make daniel feel something, react, interact, instead of just stand there and wait for the sky to fall on them so he can run home. yeji, done with their banter, wonders out loud if they're each to diss each other or practice. her reasoning, while valid, doesn't take jinyoung's motivation into account. he doesn't want to diss daniel for the sake of dissing him. he wants to break this never-ending cycle of self-pity. daniel will want to defend himself, at least he hopes, and by doing so will list the things he's good at. and if it doesn't serve as a reminder that he did, in fact, improve and has the potential to go even further if he allows himself to... jinyoung will believe he's a lost cause.
“did you already perfect the entire dance choreo oppa? is that why you are acting like this? AT LEAST SPEAK KOREAN IF YOU ARE GONNA FIGHT.” the first half of yeji's intervention makes perfect sense, though a little harsh (jinyoung obviously can't say anything about that), but the second half leaves him confused. what in the world is she talking about? "we are speaking korean!" the boys reply in unison. was it yeji's masterplan to have them finally agree on something? but it does serve to ease the growing tension a little bit.
“you can do this, and prove everyone wrong, but to be able to, you need to believe in yourself, and you need to participate,”  jinyoung has calmed down, and so has daniel. he holds the younger's shoulders, shaking him up a little. daniel finally agrees, and soon enough jinyoung asks for a hug so they can settle this argument once and for all. he really wishes daniel won't resent him for all of this, but if it serves as fuel to get him through this week it will be worth it. jinyoung doesn't mind being disliked if they can put on a great show in the end.
they finally gather in a circle, giving the songs a few listens and each of them giving opinions on how they could arrange it. they all agree that daniel has a musician's mind, and therefore would be able to work on the instrumental. jinyoung, who's trained in singing, can make sure the harmonies and line distribution suits all of their vocal tones and match well together. finally, yeji can work on the choreography. they decide that each of them will get a small highlighted solo that will focus on their main strength. daniel will get a guitar solo in the beginning and yeji will have a dance break during the first chorus, and jinyoung will sing the bridge acapella, to transition into the original song for the final chorus where they'll dance.
every practice until sunday is mostly dedicated to making all of these rearrangements, and each of them focus on their task at hand. jinyoung is quite happy to see daniel put so much effort. he still feels... distant, but they're on friendly speaking terms for the most part. they do practice a bit here and there, mostly for each of them to confirm if it's working out or not, for example jinyoung has yeji sing some of the lines to make sure her vocals match them. she did ask not to underestimate her, and while it's not his goal to do so, he wants to make sure it sounds the best it can.
starting from monday, they go into very intensive practice. the whole performance is pieced together and there's no time left for any argument. yeji is a very strict teacher, which jinyoung appreciates. he has no trouble following the simplified choreography, but daniel does encounter some issues. he's stiff, unsynchronized, and prone to apologizing profusely every time he messes up even if it disrupts the practice. yeji sets things straight and, starting from then, things go rather smoothly. it's funny, however, being in the same room as the other team at all times. they're both quite aware of what the others are up to, and the heavy breathing from the other team has jinyoung crack up his very first joke of the week. "is it the other team or just daniel dying?" it's not very funny. jinyoung is a serious person, but it does make daniel laugh at least - as well as kenta from the other side of the room. - and the younger says "both", refererring to his own exhaustion.
he doesn't not interact with the other team a lot. kenta is a bit weird, always doing something random whenever jinyoung looks his way, to the point where he wonders if it's on purpose to annoy him. jungeun seems to have quite the spunky personality, a bit like yeji, and hansol, well... all he really notices about him is that yeji seems to like him. now whether they know each other or not, he can't really tell, but there's an unspoken tension he can't quite figure out the nature of.
every time he can afford to go home, his girlfriend is there waiting for him, listening to his long, tired rants about how the week has been going. she is the best support he could hope for: giving him massages, encouraging him, even joining on the complaints he has about daniel's past behavior. they're both happy that he turned himself around though, and things are much better now. jinyoung feels like the performance is really coming together into something good, that they'll be able to present proudly comes thursday.
he finds himself sitting next to daniel once they get to the set the day of the recording. funny, how they started out this round ready to jump at each other's throat and now they have nothing but support for each other. they're a team after all, and jinyoung has to admit daniel did work hard once he snapped out of his sadness. it's not to say they've been the best friends, but they found that maybe they still have things in common despite years apart, and there's a potential to reconnect after the show is over. unless jinyoung goes home this week.
they watch the first teams, and jinyoung can't help but notice that the quality of the performances is ever growing. he doesn't fear for his own. they worked hard, and they put together something very creative that will set them apart. now the only thing left is to find out if the same few people will find their way to the top again, or fall down to make place for others.
he gives daniel's thigh occasional pats of encouragement, hoping to ease the other's nervousness should there be any. he doubts there isn't. despite his efforts, daniel still has some issues with dancing, and it won't magically go away. but he has enough charisma to make the audience forget about his flaws, if he uses it to his advantage and doesn't overthink. "you got this, alright?" he tells him right as the team before them step off stage. he leans over to look at yeji, too. "we all got this." they're a perfect combination of skills, and all they need to do is convince the judges.
they get in position in the center of the stage, jinyoung standing on the left (from a judge's perspective), then daniel and yeji respectively. after signaling each other with a glance, they all exclaim "we are the love shot!" at once, jinyoung immediately continuing with the syllable of his name "jin-" as the other two says theirs to form "jinielji!" and they end it with a gun pose, yeji and jinyoung turning their backs on daniel. he's never cringed more in his life, but it's part of what he needs to do as a team. sacrificing his dignity being one of them, fighting daniel the other.
daniel starts it off with his guitar solo, and leaves it behind once he's done as he's decided earlier this week after a change of heart. jinyoung was quite happy with that decision, treating it as daniel's way of wanting to prove everyone wrong. he's capable of more than just hide behind a prop. the instrumental kicks in to accompany their voices, and jinyoung readies himself.
Aiming at each other, to the point it's freezing hearing your voice, sounding so sharp I'm only filled with thoughts that leave me breathless Oh oh oh oh oh Aye Aye
it’s the type of melody that instead of having people on their feet dancing, has them groove their head to the beat instead, and really pay attention to the vocals and lyrics instead of just the flashy aspect. jinyoung was actually surprised at how meaningful the lyrics were once he really heard them instead of being distracted by the choreography. of course, they want to end it with a bang, so the sensual dancing will come... later on. it’s definitely different from what he did with jackson. while emotional, it was all about power and soul. this week is about soul, also, but they’re going for a different vibe.
It's the love shot
jinyoung smirks, and aims the gun formed by his hand at the camera. the focus soon switches to yeji, who takes center stage while the boys move farther apart so she has all the space she needs to dance. looking at her, he’s proud. not a big brother’s pride, but a teammate’s pride. she worked hard, often overshadowed by jinyoung and daniel’s bickering, and clearly came out victorious.
It’s the love shot
It's getting twisted, love and hate Our beautiful memories Are dyed in white Fading bit by bit
jinyoung can’t help but look briefly at daniel while singing. he didn’t really think of it during practice, but remembering everything that went on between them, including their childhood, it seems weirdly appropriate of his current feelings towards him. they clearly care for each other, but the sense of unfamiliarity after years apart makes it hard to really connect again, or remember why they even were friends in the first place. they both changed into different people, for one, jinyoung being a lot more serious than he used to be as a child.
People come and people go You and I standing still in this world Slowly growing used to our dulled feeling
right before the bridge, the music slowly fades out, briefly pauses, and jinyoung’s voice resonates in the studio, smooth and clear.
clearly, the song is about romantic love, but jinyoung is very happily in a relationship right now, and therefore does not relate to the love and hate aspect when he thinks of mina. instead he thinks of his lost friendship with daniel, and how yeji was caught in-between, and also forced to be harsher than she intended to. he wonders how they feel about the whole thing. but the more he means the words and the better his singing will be, so their faces don’t leave jinyoung’s mind until the very end of the bridge. yeji and daniel share the next part, as the original instrumental of the song starts playing, but they’re not dancing yet.
It's the love shot
jinyoung looks at the judges, putting his hand to his throat as the choreography dictates. the chorus hits harder this time around, and they were going for the surprise effect even if some of the viewers might have expected it. he hopes the trick worked, and that it will surprise them so close to the end. they sing all the ‘na na na’s together, with adlibs done mostly by jinyoung but some by yeji too. they chose an easier part of the choreography but it is, after all, the most iconic version that most people remember when they think of love shot. jinyoung can only hope it looks as good as the last few times they practiced it, but he believes in the other two. he can’t say with conviction that he has put aside all of the annoyance he felt over the course of this week, but for now he’s forgotten all of it for the sake of the performance. they need to stand strong together, and daniel doing the last ‘it’s the love shot’ with all of them making the ending pose together goes to show they all managed to get through it undefeated (for the most part).

-.✦・。゚MGA season 5: episode 5              sunday 07/21, practice at royal entertainment              mentioned: @rkjaemin, @rksuwoong, @rkxsnh
TRIGGER WARNING: migraines (headache, nausea), medications
Ever since Ryujin woke up this morning she has felt unweel in an eerie kind of way, the feeling that something is wrong haunting her from the very moment she opened her eyes because it’s appearing to be a brand new sensation. She’s nervous, abnormally so really, when she makes her way to the Royal Entertainment, a route that is becoming familiar with time as result of the practice happening there. It’s early, but not too early. Ryujin follow the company’s schedule as good as she can while excluding the breakfast, especially today since her appetite vanished-- that alone is strange, and anyone who knows her would recognise the change.
She is the first one to arrive out of both groups and a staff member is showing her the way, it’s the same way that she has walked many times already during the past few days but she know that she has to be escorted by someone. She met them with a tired smile, head bowing in that typical respect that she show to anyone who is more authorised than herself. As someone who rarely ever has a headache it’s unbearable even to walk like this, silence consumes the short trip from the entrance and up to the practice room but their footsteps are loud enough. She has no time to stay at home though, she has no time to rest. It will pass, is what she tell herself and that especially when she notice that SUWOONG arrive a little while after her.
Eyes twitch slightly by the sight of him, briefly and so quickly that nobody would notice. While they settle their things and prepare to practice she notice that something is different, still. The lights are so much brighter than they were the day before, the sounds are so much louder. It doesn’t take Ryujin long to realise that this is going to be an incredibly long and tiresome day, and she has only just arrived at 9AM. JAEMIN arrive not long after, with his textbooks. They are practicing the dance still, perfecting it the best that they can because although JAEMIN is a very strong, creative rapper has he expressed it isn’t the same when it comes to dancing. He isn’t a dancer, but that’s okay.
He is teamed with two dancers, after all-- one way or another, they will all manage to learn the choreography. Luckily for him, the song that they chose doesn’t require much technique. If the famous P.O can pull off the stage then she is sure that JAEMIN can as well, they just need for him to practice, practice, practice. And Ryujin believes in him, she has huge faith in him. She’s worried for other reasons though, which she blame her unwellness for. Surely no one else has noticed how SUWOONG has treated her the past days, no one but herself because it is easier to notice when it happens to oneself. She doesn’t get it, what has she ever done to him?
SUWOONG is particularly picky with her, he always leave her to choose lastly and he flee the scene with her once breaks hit. Instead of getting to know her he’s seemingly everywhere but with his own group, every chance he get, and she slowly begin to feel worse and worse. They seem like small “innocent” things things but small “innocent” things add up rather quickly, and she honestly don’t feel welcome or liked in her very own group... and she simply do not know what she has done wrong, SUWOONG just seem to hate her for no apparent reason. She’s a hardworking girl who usually don’t take breaks but today, she has to.
She simply has to, or she will puke right there and then though that is a fact that she decided against telling her group about. It’s not like the elder male would understand anyway, Ryujin’s absolutely sure about that, because everything she does in his presence seems to be wrong. Closing up towards lunch time it’s becoming unbearable, overwhelming is an understatement and she honestly feel so awful that she want to sit down and cry. The waves come and go yet she can’t seem to find a pattern, suddenly there is a severe rush of nausea and then suddenly there is a immensely throbbing pain in her head. What is going on?
The only pattern she notice is that whenever a wave of sickness appear, her heart beat so fast and so forcibly against her chest that she wonder whether it will jump out of her very body. As she sit down for another break SUWOONG seems to have had enough of it and calls for a fifteen minute break himself. The lump in her throat grows bigger and bigger because she’s scared, it frightens her that she don’t know what is going on with neither SUWOONG nor herself. Ryujin uses the given break to call Jonhyun, her step-brother who happens to work within the branch of medicine, after excusing herself to the hallway just outside the practice room.
His message is quick and simple, Ryujin needs to find herself a place to rest and she know to listen to his advices. If there is anyone that she look up to, it is him. There is nothing that is as important as time at this very moment so she hurry the best she possibly can to find one of the nearby staff members, who agrees to show her the company’s infirmary where she is allowed some rest and some meds to relieve the symptoms. Ryujin isn’t sure what she is given but she takes it regardless, wanting to get better sooner rather than later so that she can return to the practice. Gosh, she forgot to tell JAEMIN where she was going.
Well, surely the staff member would let them know. Before she lay down to rest she put on an alarm to make sure that she won’t oversleep, and she pass out almost the moment she closes her eyes. Just before that, she manages to send off a few texts to her best friend.
text sent to @rkxsnh (  혜주 💕 ) —— (2)
✉ ▸ i feel so sick... i don’t know what’s goign on  ✉ ▸ i’m at the infirmary, i don’t want to be sent home...  😭
The alarm wakes her back up and although she feels better in the sense of why she came into the infirmary, Ryujin feels utterly rotten inside. If she could go back to sleep she would but she can’t, so instead she drag herself out of the comfortable hospital bed and sloppily head back-- she hopes that this decaying feeling will pass with time, and she wonder just what on Earth she was given just an hour earlier. That were some strong meds, that is for sure. She squints most of the way back to the practice room where JAEMIN and SUWOONG practice with the other trio because the lights are so gosh darn bright today, but find the room near empty upon arrival.
Oh well, she will have to practice on her own then. Ryujin doesn’t think much of it, other than wondering where they might be, they surely will return shortly anywyay... she hopes, anyway. And they do precisely so, she has only danced for a few minutes when they return and she’s noticing a slight change in JAEMIN’s face that makes her curious. It’s not very obvious, but it was enough for her to notice as she has spent quite some time with the other already. They’re not close, far from it, but she admire the other and he intrigues her. But hey, they brought her a sandwich! When she think about it, she hasn’t eaten the whole day, appetite non-existent.
“My head is fine,” she responds shortly because she know that he SUWOONG only ask about her head out of courtesy. A smile appears  though, due to the food. “But thanks. I appreciate it.”
They aren’t grouped for long before JAEMIN offer to fetch some drinks, and ask Ryujin if she would like to accompany him on the trip outside. Strange as it may be she gladly accepts that offer right away, fresh air sounded amazing when she still feel completely dead inside but she realised quickly that something was up, just like everything today. Sandwich in hand, she eats it on the way greedily, suddenly realising how hungry she really is. The questions that he bring her hurts more than she thought they would, and the fact that he seemingly believed for even a second that the rumors are true hurt even more. She can’t blame him however, he was never there to witness what actually happened with Amarante.
Ryujin explains to him the best she can, without revealing too much. It seriously baffles her how effective rumors are, whether they are true or false, and she suddenly understand what has been going on with SUWOONG, that he has been spreading lies about her all along. Her heart sink to the bottom of her stomach and once again, she want to cry while she don’t. Even if the tears are threatening to roll down rosy red cheeks she will not grant him that satisfaction, and she will not cry in front of JAEMIN. Drinks ordered, waited for and now in hand, they make their way back to the building where Ryujin has forgot for the moment that they are recording.
Other matters are more important right now and if the “GOLDEN TRIO” is supposed to have a chance to win they need to settle things, right away. So she approach the elder male, in midst of a face time which he end rather quickly upon their arrival. Ryujin doesn’t beat around the bush and ask why he is out and about telling false truths to people, and where the lies come from. Tears are evident in her eyes, but she still does not cry. He responds with a question of his own, whether she call his cousin a liar-- she is confused, she doesn’t even know who this cousin is and how she is related to the matter. SUWOONG says that he doesn’t appreciate that she insult his cousin in front of him and she want to snort, the audacity.
“Yeah, please call her.” She agrees to the suggestion, once she realise who his cousin is. The call should be interesting enough as Jimin has stepped way over the line by spreading lies, and if she don’t spill the beans she will have to resort to old fashioned threats. Jimin may be older than her but in the end, she could have faced serious punishment for what she did and was honestly let go easier than everyone else. Heck, the other members of Amarante did nothing wrong. She luckily didn’t have to threaten with their old CEO as the other tells the truth. Ryujin couldn’t care less whether SUWOONG apologised after that, she was just glad it’s over.
“It’s okay,” is her way of forgiving the elder. “I’m just glad that we got this out of the way.”

#5011 & interview / ep 5 mentioned:  @junheerk, @danielxrk, @rkpjy, @jungeunxrk, @rkkenta, @rkchwev, @ryujinrk, @rkkyungsoo, @rknak, @rkkyungsoo
what did you think of the results last week?
when the interviewer asks her the question she doesn't hide her disappointment, "i don't agree with junhee oppa going home. i'm happy that i made it through and that many of my friends did but i don't think junhee oppa deserved to go home."
how was it like working with your trio?
yeji stares at the interviewer this time it was no use hiding anything, they had filmed everything and yeji just sighs. "i don't know how it'll be edited but it was hard in the start, eventually things got better though and we felt more like a team." thinking about everything that had happened in the past week yeji had felt like she was aging, rapidly-- it was all for a good cause. the result was good, everyone had done their part as they had practiced and on stage it had been even better, "it was turbulent and stressful, i am not going to lie or hide. we started it was difficult, daniel oppa is my cousin... i know him, i think that made it easier for me to tell him what i was thinking, rather than keep things inside."
what was it like working with daniel? you are related aren't you?
they say that you shouldn't work with family and yeji understands why it is difficult to look at what your family is doing negatively and give them constructive criticism. however, this week yeji put that behind her, "even if he's my cousin, i tried not to let that affect my comments to him, if anything... i was probably harder on him because he is my cousin. i hope he doesn't hold a grudge against me after this, i just wanted him to do his best. which he ended up doing today and i am really, extremely proud of him. even if we had our differences during the week, i could never hate him or be mad at him. daniel oppa works hard, his effort should be recognized."
did practicing in the company’s practice room make a difference?
"the atmosphere was different, i liked it. being watched every second was stressful but when i got used to the cameras it wasn't that big of a deal. i think that we might have forgotten the cameras being there... maybe a few too many times?" yeji wrinkled her nose, smiling sheepishly as she remembered the time that jinyoung and daniel yelled at each other, yeji's frustration with daniel's whining, "despite all that it turned out well didn't it."
did the trio that shared the room with you ever interfere on your plannings?
this was a thinker for her, they didn't interfere but yeji remembered being distracted a couple of times by them. not because it was distracting but because hansol was there, "no, not in particular no. i think it was an interesting dynamic between my group and jungeun ssi's group."
you were looking at the other group a couple of times, were you intimidated?
yeji shakes her head, "no not intimidated, more amazed. they are a group of REALLY attractive people, all of them. kenta, vernon, and jungeun." she smiles, "i was surprised at the dance moves they did, when i first saw it the door hit me in the face... and that was embarrassing. painful but mostly embarrassing."
what did you think of kyungsoo's performance?
it was oddly specific but they had a habit of asking questions like this. she had been aware. even though she had yet to watch the full episodes, she had watched the performances that were on youtube after. "i think kyungsoo oppa sings really well? i know i wont be able to have the same kind of texture to my voice but he makes me wish i could get it," she rubs the back of her neck and smiles, "his performance was good but i do think.. he needs to show off the dance moves that he's got hidden up his sleeve."
were there any performances you liked?
"there are three performances that stood out to me..." she nodded her head and lifted her index finger, "nakyung's performance stood out to me. their stage was more powerful than i thought but they are all dancers, so they had it rather easy i think," especially if you looked passed the vocals they were essentially a group of dancers, "it was impressive." yeji lifted a second finger, "maybe i am biased but i think jungeun ssi's group, did well-- they brought the energy that the original song gives and honestly seeing their final form... left me amazed," yeji nodded, "jungeun ssi is a great dancer and i don't think she's gotten enough recognition." then she lifted her third finger, "ryujin's group-- jackpot," she nodded, again biased but honestly anyone that didn't mention this were being silly in her eyes, "jackpot is such an exciting song and i think they really delivered with their energy," she nodded, "suwoong... singing was something too?" she chuckled.

                  *·—————   𝕄𝔾𝔸 SEASON 5 !!
                                                            ( TRIOS ROUND )                                       feat. LEE CHAERYEONG and PARK WOOJIN                                                     — @rkchaeryeong & @rkpwj                                                            ♡   FIRE TRUCK   ♡
she doesn’t end up in the top 3 this time but it’s what she expected. her partner left much to desire this time around so nakyung could only pray they wouldn’t end up in the bottom end which meant sending both of them home. that’d be extremely embarrassing and a level of humiliation the girl wasn’t sure she’d be able to handle. had her been eliminated that day, it’d mean the win last episode was solely minho’s, but she proved them wrong. she was just as much part of that duo as he was.
sitting now between chaeryeong and woojin put her in a weird spot. they’d eliminate the weakest member between the worst ranking trios and she isn’t too sure where she’s standing. chaeryeong had already been repeatedly complimented for her skills by the judges themselves, and even nakyung was aired leaving good comments for woojin’s performances. she’d really rather not risk it. they better all work hard and stay safe instead of playing to figure out who the judges already got tired of.
from way before she even joined the show, nakyung had ideas she’d like to use for different situations. none of them quite fit this situation. they didn’t really have a main vocalist so any idea that required a bit more power had to be thrown away. all of her girlish fantasies were also turn into dust due to woojin being the third name called. there was no time to be upset, however. they were all dancers and that meant they could easily grab attention if they wanted to. part of the results came with voting, and maybe they could even charm some of the judges too along the way.
chaeryeong is the one who suggests the song, and while at first, the other two weren’t too sure about it, it’s what they agreed on. it was already originally under three minutes so they didn’t need to cut it and not only did it have a good amount of rap for chaeryeong to show off, the dance was intense enough for all of them to keep up with and make a good show out of it. nakyung had barely shown any rap on the previous episode, but she was assigned some more proper ones this week. it was still the ones done by the members who don’t normally rap so she should be able to keep it up.
with a song titled ‘fire truck,’ their group name came easily: firefighters. their catchphrase: we’ll burn the stage. no one seemed to see what was wrong with it until a few minutes later when they realize firefighters normally put out the fires. the three still decided to keep it. maybe it’d be a bit funny.
it still pisses her off that, out of all the five companies, they had landed on royal grounds. nakyung had always been very vocal about her dislike towards the company on her stan account and if the staff didn’t know about it then it was probably a good sign. she just couldn’t stand the fact that luxe could possibly be under the same roof as her but somewhere higher, probably. her only wish was that they’d change things around like last year and nakyung’s presence there would only be limited to a week.
she wasn't quite sure what to feel when it came to sharing a room until the two groups were put up to the test. it had all started nicely with them simply introducing each other and being friendly. it's what she would have expected of people who knew there were cameras around them. it's only when they all have their songs chosen that it really becomes trouble. gone were the memories of offering each other snacks with a proper smile on their face.
the other group's song is about just as loud as theirs and that means the air gets messy if they're both playing at the same time. from what she saw on tv, or from her impressions of him on the set, suwoong wasn't a bad guy. maybe a bit too loud but it was doing him good in terms of popularity so nakyung wasn't going to be the one to stop him. yet, with the two together in a room, things became difficult. when he turned up his song, nakyung was the one who turned theirs even louder. she should be able to listen to her own song while practicing, right?
it pisses her off by the second time he does it and the pissed off look on her face that she'd normally try not showing to the public could be more easily seen. it was different going prepared for a day of filming and being provoked in the middle of practice. suwoong should have known better, too. even with her young age, nakyung wasn't surprised by the immaturity of certain boys. when he offers some help she still smiles, thankful, and listens to his words. it's probably the same situation to him, that is all on the surface.
it's more refreshing to go out with her own teammates. it's easier to get to know two other people she had to work together with than adding three others nakyung shouldn't really bother about until further notice. she's the one who suggests going out for shopping. she is a girl of fashion and it never really got brought up before apart from her coat-throwing tendencies (thank you suwoong?) so she wants to make sure at least her teammates know about it and hop along. woojin doesn't look as interest as the girls, but it's cool of him to go anyway.
she helps them choose outfits that match both the concept and each other. some of the official clothes worn by the artists were a bit doubtful so she believes she played it safe and perhaps even a bit cooler than some stage outfits out there. they decide to stop for food after and it's the one time they can actually talk about something that isn't practice-related. the three don't know each other well enough to talk about fears and regrets, but anything new is refreshing to her, at least. from funny stories of their past to interesting facts that came up to mind, they made themselves comfortable. returning to the practice room, the air felt much more clear and practicing each movement didn't feel as hard anymore. for someone stubborn like her, asking for help here and there didn't come as that much of a challenge either.
                 *·—————
they're told to sit side by side as they did with duos before. this time they're second to last and she's unsure if that's good or not. since their song has such a strong presence it could actually be good to stick to the judges' minds. maybe it'd even make the following group sound worse by comparison.
with each episode having fewer performances nakyung is bound to pay more attention to them. there are only three episodes left with this one included which meant surviving this round they went straight to the semi-finals. anyone in that room could be serious competition and she isn't ready to lose quite yet. she had won one challenge already so all that was left to do was go for the big prize.
when they call their name, the three contestants make their way to the center of the stage which is slightly modified but not too much. the greeting they decided on may not make too much sense, but hopefully, they could manage to get some attention with it. "we'll burn the stage! hello, we are the firefighters!" nakyung bows to the judges in front of them who always look so damn serious. she wonders if they'll have a stronger eye on her due to her using a few of their songs last week, which means she also hopes she'll do better this time around an make them proud.
they take their initial positions with their back to the front of the stage. they had planned a strong start and nakyung is ready to deliver it.
GET IT LIFTED!
they all shout in unison, showing only the first of their cards. it gives them power right at the start, and if their obnoxious of a song wouldn’t be enough to grab some attention then maybe this could make some sleepy eyes focus.
chaeryeong is the first to start as their main rapper. this is one of the parts she had practiced the most to perfect. while the other girl is busy being the center of the stage, nakyung and woojin need to work on the floor. if she did anything loosely then it’d be much more visible than just messing up a hand movement. while it is complex, it’s also at the very start. she’s well-rested and her moves come out clean before it’s her time to take over.
Don’t try to get out of it I don’t like lukewarm moods, no thanks My back seat is shaking, getting hot After I burn it up, we get lit
due to the nature of the song, she’s given rap portions. she doesn’t mind it, personally. if anything, it could only help her image. from a cute girl maybe nakyung could finally get some points towards her versatility which is something she had already shown up to this stage and she wants to keep on showing it until the end of the show if they let her. thankfully, the girl already comes equipped with cocky expressions in her portfolio. she doesn’t want no lukewarm moods that the previous performances had put on the set. instead, she’ll make sure this performance will be her best so far.
woojin had shown no problem having fewer lines, so the ones that classified as singing were all given to him. nakyung and chaeryeong stay in position and deliver strong movements to accompany his part. she had worked hard for this. the last thing she wanted was for her to disappear in this performance instead of showing what she really got. maybe her teammates were all great performances but she was one too.
the chorus of the song is a dance break. none of them could really do what the original artist could, so that meant they were all a little bit modified to fit their set of skills. she thinks it’s for the better. they got to show something that they can do other than failing at following the original. just like the start of the song had gone, chaeryeong starts by rapping her part before nakyung hops in.
Just hold up If you keep pushing, you’ll get hurt, get higher It’s hot as a rocket This place is about to explode in 10 seconds
she walks forward swiftly, taking on the front and center of the stage. nakyung follows the movements precisely which are mainly making sure her arms are at the correct angle before stepping to the side. the format of the song remains the same, but she thinks it always feels a little bit different. the chorus by itself already brings something new to the table. it’s longer and with a new vocal line on top of it. even if by now she should be feeling some level of tired—maybe from the constant spotlight against the top of their heads—she keeps on going with the intenseness she had started with. it’s probably the adrenaline.
the song slows down only briefly to accommodate the bridge. the girls dance behind woojin to allow him getting the proper attention. it’s right after it that comes the final dance break, but, just like they had done for others, things changed a little bit from the original.
DANCE MY PARTY PEOPLE!
they scream together once again, leading towards the final portion.
the trio split the end into three parts and distributed it between the three of them. since they were all dancers, each got to choreograph their own solo dance performance at the end of the song. although nakyung had never really thought of choreographing things herself before the start of this show, her partnership with minho during the first round of duos really gave her the confidence to do it, and she’s glad she gets to do it again.
when they’re each done with their part, they repeat the final movement of the original song, lowering themselves to the sudden silence of what was once loud music. she holds her position until one of her teammates decides to move and thanks the judges before returning to her seat. nakyung’s really proud of what they got to do and she honestly believes they won’t go to the bottom. she’d get to shine again, she’s sure of it.

MGA 5 EPISODE 5: INTERVIEW with kim hyojin, #5020
mentions: @danielxrk, @rkseunghun, @rktaeyang, @ericxrk, @rksakura, @rksihyeon
breathing out a heavy sigh when he’s called up for the interview, hyojin closes his eyes and takes in a deep breath, before nodding and politely following the staff member.
what did you think of the results last week?
“i was surprised, definitely. i didn’t expect them to call my name -- don’t get me wrong though!” hyojin says, waving his arms flusteredly once he realizes the potential implications of his words, and he shakes his head as he adds, “daniel and i did really well, i think -- but i think i was just so used to seeing people like minho get up and claim the top spots, so i think i was both really proud and a bit burdened to keep doing well. i’ll try my best to prove that i deserve the title i’ve been given, so please continue to watch out for me! also, please support seunghunnie as usual -- i was glad to have him with me on stage when they announced the top trios.”
how was it like working with your trio?
pursing his lips, hyojin exhales sharply, his eyes growing a little sad at the question. “i think... i probably caused them a lot of pain and stress. taeyang had to rework the choreography for me, and then eric probably wanted to have a stage where he could show off his dancing more, but he wasn’t able to because of me. even with the dance break in, i think they had to limit themselves just for me to be able to sing and not lag behind. as a result, i’m really grateful for the both of them, because they were always patient with me and guided me. even though it was difficult, putting in the work was worth it, because i think we all want to do well equally as much. i learned a lot from them.”
did practicing in the company’s practice room make a difference?
“i think it was definitely different! the moment i stepped into kt, i was like ‘woah, this has the vibe of an idol,’ kind of like... i wasn’t supposed to be there? it’s a little magical, even.” he says, waving his hands a little cutely, covering his face in embarrassment at his strange words.
did the trio that shared the room with you ever interfere on your plannings?
“no, they didn’t! i think we were all focused on our own performances, so we didn’t interact much. it’s regrettable, because all of them are really talented, but i wish them the best, nevertheless. i think i also learned a lot from watching them practice, since they had some talented dancers.”
how do you think you did?
“i think... we did the best considering what we were given. i’m still really sorry to my teammates, and i hope that no matter what, they get the results that they deserve. it’s selfish of me, but i also hope that i did well in the eyes of the judges. i also put in a lot of effort, so i may be biased, but it was an enjoyable stage that we did well. i’m still not sure if it was a risk -- not playing any instrument and dancing, that is -- that i should have taken, but i’m glad i got to try out something new this time.”
were there any performances you liked?
“definitely! sia and seunghun’s was really good, along with sakura’s! i think that was really cool of them to perform those songs, because their charisma is really eye-catching. gogobebe especially is an interesting song choice, since it has this kind of sound to it that’s really suave and hard to pull off if you don’t approach it correctly. but i think they did it perfectly, so it was good! also, daniel’s team was great. he’s really a creativity master, isn’t he? it was cool seeing him dance, too.”
with that, the interviewer lets him go, and hyojin bows deeply to them with a shy smile before heading out of the room. even with the sinking feeling in his stomach, he wants to hope that they placed in the top five.
eric and taeyang deserved it, at the very least.

‧ ₊ ˚ ♡ MGA SEASON FIVE, EPISODE FIVE— TRIOS PERFORMANCES!
• • • bringing to the stage dna + bbom bbom w. minho & kyulkyung ❪ 0:00 — 1:55! ❫
it's odd how okay she is, how easy it is for her to accept defeat towards her own personal goals this time around, yet another week going by with her name being nowhere near the top of the ranks— deep down, heejin believes she knew it'd turn out like this ( with every episode, results get tighter and tighter, outcomes easier to predict, and despite the motivation she has to break through the ceiling as she'd done once before, she understands the hurdles that entailed. she understood that, no matter how hard she worked, there would always be someone else working just as hard, if not harder ).
she hates the predictability, hates how stagnant the top seems to be, but heejin is no fool— those at the top, for the most part, are there for legitimate reasons. a bitter taste settles on the tip of her tongue, hidden by a honey smile.
     maybe it's me.
it's a fleeting thought, one that hits her from the shadows of her mind, and it's all heejin can do to push it far away as she steels herself. rarely were there ever times where the brunette felt any sort of doubt in herself, in her capabilities, but every once in a while, they'd appear. they'd fester in times like this, her mind restless with dissatisfaction, hoping to take grasp and knock her far down from where she knows she's should be.
silently, she's grateful for the crowd that surrounds her, the judges voices breaking through the self-induced haze she hadn't realized was there, and she tunes in just in time to catch the names of her two new partners for the coming weeks' performances.
there's a sense of instant intrigue, relief washing over her, and there's no point in denying her luck any longer— minho and kyulkyung, two powerful competitors, both of whom she'd had her eyes keenly trained on almost from start. immediately, any festering worries she'd briefly let cross her mind fade into the background, and for a moment, all heejins mind can conjure up are visions into next week. if she's meant to win, meant to earn praise as part of a team, the brunette was more than confident that it would be with this trio.
she can feel her fire begin to rekindle, growing with intensity, morphing into something far greater than the simple heat it'd diminished into.
she would stand a better chance now.
                                                                      ♡
the atmosphere is easygoing, open and inviting the longer the three of them are sat together, and heejin feels more at ease than she'd originally thought she'd be.
oh, the wonders something as simple as having good food to bond over could do.
it's a location unfamiliar to her, just as unfamiliar as her partners are, but the brunette has never been one to shut herself out from anything new— maybe that's why she says what she does, words leaving her after very little contemplation once she'd made decent progress on her plate, her willingness to do whatever it took for the three of them to secure the best results they could pushing through entitled pride.
"over these last 4 performances, all i've done is sing," she starts, eyes flickering smoothly between her older companions, fingers idly playing with the straw in her cup of water. "it's what i'm best at, so it made sense for me to focus on showing off my vocals, but i don't want people to think singing is all i'm capable of doing." she stays silent for a moment, thinking before she continues. "i'm open to trying whatever ideas will work for all of us— singing, dancing, whatever it may be...just don't make me rap."
heejin is sure that, had her partners been anyone else, she might not have brought up the idea of potentially putting herself so far out of her comfort zone, but it was a thought that had been weighing on the back of her mind the moment they'd decided to spend this time together. they were different than her— their performances were different than hers, valuing contrasting skills when it came to their strengths thus far on the show, something she'd taken note of easily. while she'd been paired with rappers before, heejin hadn't been paired with any of the dancers ( they were a whole new territory this far in, one she couldn’t afford to get lost in ).
while it seemed somewhat daunting, she was well aware that an opportunity like this could help show off another side to herself, one that wasn't strictly rooted to her vocals.
with that in mind, it’s easier to put aside her worries. if she was the one who needed to bend a little in order for their team not to break, so be it— she would bend as much as she could if it meant they'd have the best chance at success.
                                                                      ♡
walking through the halls of sphere entertainment, she feels a plethora of emotions swirling in the pit of her stomach. heejin is excited, eyes searching up and down each hall they passed, taking in just how professional and experienced everything feels. she's determined, motivated to work her hardest, kyulkyung by her side as the two make their way to their appointed practice room. she's expectant, ready to experience only a fraction of what she knows is to come not much farther down the line ( the only difference, however, is in location— sphere wasn't her end goal, but being there was interesting, enlightening on what to expect when royal came for her ).
she's anxious, eyes darting with every turn of the corner, waiting to see if, by some chance, she'd catch sight of painfully familiar purple locks traveling down the other end of the hallway ( heejin isn't sure what she wants more— to see younger now, or wait for a better time. her confusion had only grown the longer things seemed to drag out, but that doesn't stop her from wanting to keep a watchful eye out for signs between bathroom and water breaks ).
heejin shakes her head gently. she needed to stay focused— for now, her private life could take the backseat.
what couldn't be put off any longer, however, was minho. for as early of a bird as heejin tended to be, it had surprised her when she'd heard he had shown up before her and kyulkyung, waiting patiently for them in their borrowed, shared practice room. she was happy, though, taking his early eagerness as his determination to do well and practice hard. it was something she was inspired by, a quality she couldn't help but feel admiration for, and it only reaffirmed what heejin already knew— she had good partners.
just as they had already proven themselves to be good to her, she would prove to be just as good to them. they deserved that much from her, if not, more.
                                                                      ♡
from the very moment they properly begin their practices, there's no shortage of enjoyment.
the earliest incident? walking in on minho all done up in his fanciest clown wig— it had been quite the sight to see so early in the morning, heejins eyes still puffy out of dwindling tiredness, and for a moment she'd thought she'd been dreaming. it had only been once her pink-haired companion addressed it as well that she realized it was real.
her eyes had widened considerably, any semblance of sleepiness gone from her body, brows raising in question, and it's all she can do to fight the giggles that threaten to leave her. she can only vaguely process the other girls' words, barely latching on to her question ( how long have you been sitting there like that? a valid question, one heejin wanted the answer to as well ) before she finally lets a laugh out.
"you're an interesting guy..." is all she can say as she'd set her bag off to the side, casting a glance at herself in the wall mirror, and it isn't long until they start.
as time goes on, heejin finds herself warming up more and more to the reality of cameras following their every move.
it's different, more uncomfortable at first, knowing anything they did, any interactions ( good or bad ) within their own group or the other trio they were made to share with would be recorded and possibly shown to the public. she's not sure what to do, where to look, how to speak— before, when everything was recorded on-site, it was easier to prepare herself beforehand, to get herself into a certain mindset and put on the best image of herself. now, there's none of that.
there are no breaks, no timeouts to recollect and strengthen the mask. no, now was the time for blunt honesty, a time for viewers to see everything that goes on behind the scene.
she's the most plain she's ever been, makeup-less, hair thrown up into a loose ponytail for as much comfort and ease as possible, oversized comfy clothes finishing the look, and it's certainly the softest version of herself the public could ever hope to see ( she's sure that, had she worn her glasses instead of contacts, that would have added only to the image, but glasses would have been too inconvenient for now ).
but, as time goes on, the cameras seem to fade into the background.
they become an afterthought within the rooms pleasant, hardworking atmosphere— it shocks her, then, when her hair is all messed up thanks to some experimentation with props, that minho and kyulkung act as shields, keeping her new and odd look out of shot, helping her fix herself, and heejin can't help but laugh the whole time.
running her hands through her hair as she finished fixing herself, makeshift goggles still in hand, heejin can't help the smile that persists her on her lips at the olders actions, and it's then she thinks they aren't just good anymore— she thinks they’re amazing.
                                                                      ♡
sat between her partners comfortably, heejin can't help but feel excitement creep up her spine. she's restless, both eager to perform and nervous for everyone to see what it is the three of them have come up with. it's weird, her foot tapping to a gentle, silent rhythm as she waits, eyes seeing ( but not really picking up ) others take the stage and show off what it is they've prepared— for as long as she could remember, heejin had never found herself letting her nerves wind her up this much, but the longer she thinks, the more it all makes sense.
it's nothing like what she's done on the show before, nothing like what she's done ever, a performance she would have never thought of doing on her own.
despite this, though, she's happy— happy that her team had been able to come up with something so fun, while also managing to balance out different ways in which they'd all shine while sharing the stage.
letting her eyes fall on the two separately as their names are called up to the stage, heejin wholeheartedly believes that, regardless of her nerves ( regardless of if they also felt nervous ), they would do well.
taking the stage, their voices ring clearly as they give introductions. "hello! we are the royal court!"
once they're given their queue to begin, they take their positions, and as heejin settles herself before the makeshift vr headset that had caused such a funny ruckus during practices, their track begins.
the performance is a rush, one full of fun and expert timing, and by the time it ends, heejin no longer feels the nerves she'd had before the start. no, all she feels is satisfaction, gratitude towards the other two who stand on stage with her, having given it their all to ensure nothing but the best was shown on stage. reflecting, she can say she'd given it her all as well— when it came to her vocals, there was nothing for her to really worry about, her voice having been strong and stable, just as it always was. her biggest worry had been more towards the end.
dance had never been her forte, but she could only hope her pleasant attempts were recognized.
it's with a wide smile and heavy breathes that she exits the stage.

운명을 찾아낸 둘이니까 190725 MGA SEASON 5 + EPISODE FIVE +  #5050 FEATURING : CHOI MINHO & JEON HEEJIN ⟨ ━━ ❀ ° PART ONE: PERFORMANCE, BBOOM BBOOM + DNA ( 0:00 - 1:55 ) ⟩
her mouth is full of chunks of noodles but she speaks anyway, hand raised to her mouth in an attempt to make the action appear a little less nasty than it actually was. “honestly - i don’t mind.” her pink hair waves with the rapid shaking of her head - adding on to the fact that they were all practically saying the same thing. “dancing, singing, it’s whatever! just don’t make me rap, please?” and that was a personal plea.
an invitation from minho brought the trio to a restaurant that kyulkyung was just so in love with. they gathered in hopes of getting to know one another better and figure out exactly what they would be doing the rest of the week. and so far, this was going better than the woman could’ve hoped for.
when her pairing was once again announced first, it was hard to contain her excitement. this week she had truly hit the jackpot.
“i’ve danced this entire time, i’m sure everyone’s bored with it.” she jokes, pausing to take a sip of water amidst her devouring of her noodles. this certainly wasn’t her usual burger after thursday filming, but it did not disappoint. “i can sing, dance, do both!! it’s okay!”
in all honesty, she worried a bit about her performances on the show. were they becoming too repetitive? kyulkyung had yet to showcase any singing skill the entirety of her time on the show ( other than her audition ), and the fact made her nervous. sure, she was a good dancer, but wasn’t she more than that?
the woman kept these worries to herself, wanting to do what would be best for everyone rather than just herself. advancing was crucial for the whole team, not just two of them, and that involved some leniency when it came to selecting a performance. everyone needed to be comfortable, willing to share the spotlight equally and lucky for them, that was exactly the case.
                                                                       ❀
kyulkyung admittedly was not a morning person. usually bright and peppy, the woman could barely manage to crack a genuine smile when sleep still laced every nerve and muscle in her body. it was a tiny bit easier when she was walking with heejin - her hair messily tied up into a bun and face bare despite the cameras that awaited them in sphere’s practice room.
the thought of practicing in a company practice room was exciting to her, but the woman managed to keep her cool. she didn’t know much about many kpop idols, but knowing that practicing in these rooms meant that they were that much closer to the end was thrilling. it was hard to believe that they were going into episode five - that she was going into episode five.
she auditioned without worries, not thinking of how far she could actually make it and yet here she was - walking into a sphere practice room to prepare for the fifth episode’s performance, hopes high and soaring as wild as ever.
the pair are expecting minho to meet them at the practice room, but she is NOT expecting the fear that overcomes her when she sees something unexpectedly colorful and tall sitting ominously in the center of the room. kyulkyung pauses midstep - door pressed firmly against her palm and mouth open in shock as she stares at the... clown wig?
the woman looks around before narrowing her eyes at the mirror, biting down on her lip but unable to stop the smile that spreads across her lips when minho’s reflection stares back at her.
“heejin... should we be worried?” she whispers to the other girl, leaning a bit closer to her partner but eyes fixated on the clown wig that rests atop minho’s head.
“just one question.” she calls out into the room, “how long have you been sitting there like that?”
                                                                       ❀
practice for episode five was vastly different than the past week’s. kyulkyung was filled with worry while the environment that surrounded her this week proved to be vastly different. alongside having a trio that just genuinely got along and decided on their roles easily, the other group that shared the room with them made the experience that much more enjoyable. from facetiming suwoong from kyungsoo’s phone to eating the quiche he brought it, it was hard for the woman to have any type of worry.
not to mention changbin who just had to flatter her and boost her ego a thousand times over. “you’re one of the best dancers here!” and she just couldn’t help but hug him.
the thought crossed her mind at least once, maybe she was just having too much fun. but she just couldn’t help it.
the light-hearted nature of their performance made it easy to enjoy, but exciting to watch, the woman loved piecing it together, laughing over their mistakes but growing confident in their teamwork.
“oh my god, minho - heejin now!” kyulkyung gestured wildly to the younger girl who stood a wreck. her hair askew, flying in all directions because of the headgear that framed her eyes.”we have to protect her image! hurry!!” she was laughing but moving quickly to stick her face in front of the camera - making dumb faces at the lenses as minho took care of heejin’s mess. their practices involved a lot of this, a lot of laughs and food but also a lot of excitement.
she had done fun routines before, but none like this. it was easy to smile, genuine movements able to create an undeniably alluring performance.
and she couldn’t wait to show it.
                                                                      ❀
when filming came around, the woman couldn’t help the anticipation leading up to their stage. it was hard to sit still, becoming more thankful that they were the first trio to perform as she couldn’t imagine waiting much longer. similar to last week, kyulkyung hoped they could introduce episode five in a good way - set that bar high and expectations wild for the remained of the episode. performing first meant not having the pressure of following up a good stage and she’s sure that at this point in the competition, everything would be a good one.
the mashup they selected complemented each other nicely, the stage they formulated to bring fourth a lighthearted atmosphere which reflected the past week perfectly. “we didn’t forget the goggles and the controller did we?” she asks, hopeful eyes met with reassurance that they would do just fine.
“hello! we are the royal court!” the trio greeted, introducing episode five with bright eyes and a playful atmosphere. straightening out the colorful stripes decorating her crop top, kyulkyung pulls at the fabric - shifting her weight on her feet as she waits to introduce herself. she holds her head high and keeps her shimmering lips pulled into a smile when she introduces herself, switching to chinese to begin her introduction per usual. “hello! number 5050, zhou jieqiong here! we prepared something a bit more fun to watch this week, hope you like it!”
a stool is sat center stage while kyulkyung and minho move to their respective ends of the stage - the pair at the end of opposite runways while heejin moves to the center one. the trio had planned this out vigorously, coming up with a cute scenario for their performance that would certainly be entertaining to follow along. it isn’t hard to shift into the atmosphere of their routine, a naturally bubbly woman living for a song and performance as creative as theirs.
this week was vastly different than what she had shown with suwoong last week, and kyulkyung loved keeping everyone on their toes. what side of her would she show next? the mgas proved to be an excellent place for her to experiment the different sides of her dancing persona, the perfect platform to receive feedback and grow based on that. while last week seemed to have some mixed reviews, she cannot wait to show the her that she felt most comfortable in.
heejin’s walks towards the stool where their makeshift VR headset rests along with a controller, the “announcer’s” voice following shortly after.
JEON HEEJIN, SELECT A SONG TO CONTINUE
and so their performance begins - the song mashup turning up as kyulkyung and minho begin to slowly move up and down as characters do in the selection menu. she attempts a cute pose to match her song, bboom bboom’s bubbly lyrics and music bringing forth the darling in her.
“what are you doing? that’s my song that’s playing.” she speaks out, throwing on a pout and crossing her arms as she stares across the runway at minho, who counters with a no, it’s my song. she chose yours last time! before they’re rushing towards center stage.
지금 내 눈엔 눈엔 눈엔 네 어깨 무릎 발 (oh) 숨이 탁 막힐 것 같아 난 너만 보면
there were a lot of new experiences for kyulkyung this week. alongside relying on acting a bit more this week and usage of props, the woman was finally showcasing her singing on the show. the fact was exciting, but at the same time she couldn’t help but fear the reactions. she wasn’t a bad singer by any means, and most of her vocals this week were prerecorded anyways, but still, what if it’s worse than what everyone was expecting?
the thought worried her, but in all honesty, she didn’t care. the woman wasn’t a singer by any means; dancing was her overall best talent and the skill she always relied most on. but she had read comments of wanting something different and new besides all the dancing and what better way to show it? this week she was accompanied by heejin who arguable had one of the best voices on the show and minho who not only had a decent voice but knew how to perform with it as well. in all honesty, she had a bit of an advantage this week learning from them ( especially considering the fact that she was in no way embarrassed to ask for help ).
숨이 콱 막힐 것 같아 넌
the concept they went with was a bit easier skill wise than what she was used to, but was definitely more on the creative side. it was performances like this that she enjoyed best - loving being able to follow along with a story and watch the talent that matched it. heejin was playing a video game and kyulkyung and minho were the characters too busy fighting for her attention, wanting to be picked so they were constantly competing with one another. it was a bit ironic given their current situation, but nonetheless it was fun to perform.
because we’ve found our destiny  -  the two songs link up here, the two dancers pulling heejin into the game and taking her goggles and controller from her. up until this point, the other girl had been singing, contemplating her choice between minho and kyulkyung as they danced for her attention. as they tug her closer, she manages to pull the younger girl closer to her side - pushing minho out of the way and getting her to dance to bboom bboom with her.
give it to you my 눈눈눈눈눈눈 눈빛 쏟아지는 my 터터터터터터 터치
하나뿐인 my 럽럽럽럽럽 my luver 내 머리부터 뿜뿜
내 발끝까지 뿜뿜 뿜뿜 어
the two girls’ voices blend so well together, the soft tones complementing the song nicely as they dance together. kyulkyung’s character tries her best to make heejin forgot about minho and his stupid song because hers is so much better ( and definitely more fun ). this is the part where kyulkyung’s live vocals can finally be heard, not wanting to push it too much this week and instead relying more on prerecorded vocals for the characters - allowing heejin to take that spotlight but also giving her a chance to dance when they all come together.
이 모든 건 우연이 아니니까
minho manages to sneak up on the dancing pair, coming back into the frame as he pushes kyulkyung out of the way to begin dancing with heejin. at first, kyulkyung appears shocked but she just steps to the side and watches until the other girl notices minho had taken her place. the two meet eyes, confused and bewildered before they shrug. and finally the trio begins to dance together, letting that competition die and slowly bring their performance to an end.
just feel it 뿜뿜 네 앞에서 난 뿜뿜 네게 줄게 뿜뿜 뿜뿜 어( 운명을 찾아낸 둘이니까, DNA )
give it to you my 눈눈눈눈눈눈 눈빛 쏟아지는 my 터터터터터터 터치
하나뿐인 My 럽럽럽럽럽 my luver 내 머리부터 뿜뿜
내 발끝까지 뿜뿜 뿜뿜 어
their performance ends and kyulkyung is catching her breath, smiling as always and feeling like she’s on top of the world. the adrenaline from their routine is slowly simmering down, but all she can think about is the satisfaction of a fun performance.

MGA Season 5 ୨୧ Episode 5 ୨୧ Interview
Did practising in the company’s practice room make a difference? Chaeryeong couldn't help but chuckle. “Of course! Quite a lot at that. It's easier to get into the right head-space there and of course the rooms were build to be practised in, which made things easier. At the same time, as we were two different teams, it wasn't all peachy. We both had two obnoxiously loud songs, so that could be a little distracting while going through choreography and lines, but I think we arranged ourselves well, overall,” she said, smiling prettily. “It was also nice to socialise a bit more,” the girl added a few seconds after. She hoped (and expected) the group rounds to continue for a bit.
Is there anyone you had higher expectations for compared to other teams? “The team we shared the practise room with. After all I could watch them a little during breaks, so I saw their progress. They also have an exciting song, so that promised an interesting performance,” she honestly wouldn't mind performing it herself one day. She'd seen “Jackpot” performed by a female group in another survival show, since then its mood had intrigued her. At the same time she simply didn't usually have many expectations for other teams, only for herself and the team he was in.
Which performance, aside from your team, stood out to you? “Hm...” the girl started tentatively, “The team performing “Love Shot” did well, I like how they put effort into changing the performance from the original,” It was a bit difficult for her to answer this. How would her answer be interpreted? If she mentioned someone who was publicly known as her friend, would she get negative comments for that? What if—from her perspective—she couldn't see mistakes someone made? While she'd grown more used to these interviews, she doubted starting to like them anytime soon.

🔊: gogobebe ( lyrics + lines ) | 👚 trio performance with 💖 sakura, yuri, & xuxi! mentions: @rkmason, @rkxkikwang, @rkchoutzuyu, @rkkenta, @hyojinrk, & @rkkyungsoo
tw: anxiety!
the more the merrier, the better. this theme's featuring three bodies instead of two, which feels like a small group performance. which gets sakura pumped up, eager to work harder so that she holds up to the team. signs of trepidation flow through her though, that seems to be on every episode that she feels the tension itching but she can only focus her intent on having fun to come up with a piece with her new group! eliminations are inevitable every round, there's no point in wasting time dwelling on a circumstance bound to happen as written out by the judges based on impressions and several opinions.
she spends her days in the practise studio, working more and more on to pick up her vocals as she wasn't only going to rap this time. there are moments when she sits down and ponders thoroughly that she should've pressed on with her choir lessons but she'd already found a strong drive for rapping and its unique elements. she truly admires yuri and xuxi for being such hard-working individuals, the pace that they go through pushing themselves through it all, she lets the two know that she appreciates all of their hard-working whether through statements or gestures.
still, there's not a moment when she doesn't think about her friends or the fact any of the two other than herself have the potential to be eliminated. that's how it usually goes, right? rather, there are remnants of favouritism from the judges but she'd like not to trap herself within her own mind. the thoughts aren't on the brighter side so sakura shakes her head away as it'd only shuddered her, render her swelling with nervousness and going back to where she'd been so hesitant to reveal her face to the public before she'd reach this breaking point, blooming with confidence and becoming a better performer comes from trial and error!
not too long ago, just about a year. those were the days when she'd only discover that she'd been comfortable enough to put her musical content out in the world through the form of social media but never going out of her way to actually audition. this isn't the first time that she did it but she'd take every opportunity she could find to attend them in hopes to expand her knowledge and throughout, meet all sorts of other people that shared the same interest: a passion for music. it was a promise she'd carry out for tzuyu and kikwang, even gray that she'd enter. the truth is, she didn't expect herself to make it here. all the way to episode five but tonight, that could be changed. if she comes down to that fate, at least she knew that she did her best at the end of the day. that she sang, rap, and danced her heart out.
the building has such a warm atmosphere to it, maybe it's the fact that she isn't daunted and everyone has been nothing but kind souls to sakura. she'd do her best to return the gesture by putting out the same matter, with smiles and greetings. small meetings during lunches and small talks. she loves the friendliness and lightheartedness that flows through the room when she's listening to music or moving her body to a beat of the song. it doesn't feel forced, nobody hates one another or feels like strangers. this is the specific kind of environment that she aims to surround herself with all the time.
she hadn't met xuxi prior to this, but left a great impression with his performance on the last episode! she'd gotten to know him a bit more, exchanging contact information and numbers so that she didn't lose track of a new friend that she'd been excited to meet and even have the honour to work with him on the stage, alongside yuri. seeing the girl who she shares a cordial friendship with off-the-set and have dorky adventures with yena ( which sakura still wishes even now that she'd be here with them ), she's just glad to see her friends really.
tweaks are made with the choreography and dividing the lyrics out to three people, originally four and she finds herself having to dance, rap, and sing at the same time. she has to take some time at home to polish her vocals and breath stability whilst dancing. she'd have a small rap part given to her as both xuxi and yuri are strong vocalists. she believes that the only factor she found intimidating was the capabilities they had as vocalists with remarkable techniques and unforgettable charisma. she couldn't be on that level but her dreams are coming true slowly, she's grateful to even step on the trc building which is her dream company. it piqued her interest right off the bat when she came to south korean soil a year ago.
the outfit choice came down to light-colored suits. sakura could use a cool outfit to keep in her closet to use for another occasion. she had a good day shopping with the two. shopping's a favourite hobby of her's but she didn't like to overindulge unless she needs to. she'd have a horrible history in the past with using her debit card, her parents were from wealth but she didn't like to present that side about her upfront. at least, she's doing better with handling money now.
it's not long until the big day hits. her alarm sets off, she rises up from her bed with messy, untidy hair. sakura finds that it's easier to pack her items in her backpack and change her outfit in the bathroom. but with a suit, it's a tad bit complicated and she tries to pack the items carefully so that the condition doesn't look worn out with wrinkles all over. the clothing's covered with plastic so that nothing stains the high-quality item. she takes a small apple and banana with her for a small breakfast, starting off her day. the time comes up when it's time for her to go filming. she sets out to her designated destination, entering the building and greeting familiar faces. she'd arrive here early to see the others perform as she liked to stay longer even though she could have gone home, it was way better to see performances in person. being there physically, right at the moment is more exciting than seeing it on a flat-screen.
she spots mason, he's one of the first few to perform up. before he sets on that stage, sakura wanted to wish him luck and let him know that he's got this. kyungsoo's there as well, she walks up to him and greets him a hello, waving her hand and smiling at the male. first, she was speaking english with mason and korean with kyungsoo then she switches over to japanese with kenta, yelling out "頑張ってください "! ( ganbatte kudasai ; translation: good luck! ). then, she sets out to find the chairs are and finds yuri immediately. heyaaa!" she hugs her friend briefly before pulling away to sit down on her assigned seat. hyojin is someone she couldn’t forget to visit! she wants to make sure she gives him the best wishes.
once she hears their names being called up, that's when she knows she has to stand up from her seat and have an upbeat smile on her face! she introduces herself along with the others on the stage, bowing politely prior to letting the background music play. she finds a state of reassurance and relaxation when she releases some distressed sighs and takes a couple of deep breaths. she can sense the pressure already from the eyes. she's facing the judges and looks down on the ground then back up. in a moment of deep thought, she takes the few seconds to thank her goddess, amaterasu and says her prayers.
the tempo starts playing, the sound's ebullient and uplifting. the dance isn't exactly difficult to tag along with, just sultry in some segments but she can work with the theme and calibrate herself. xuxi starts with the first line and it's a nice sound to it. yuri then sings with her angelic voice. she's grinning and jamming to the song energetically, sakura moves to the centre and delivers her rap portion of the song. she doesn't have a hard time pronouncing the korean as the lines were short, her flow is smooth and clean. her australian accent can be heard when rapping in english words.
she's got a lot of zeal. getting a good night's rest, her sleeping schedule has been better this week than the recent month that has gone by. she's cluttered with piles of schoolwork on the side, there's also the aquarium volunteer work that she's been doing for her internship. she's managed to take a couple days off from the volunteer work instead of being there five days a week, it was down to two as of the moment. she's astonished at the high notes that yuri and xuxi are able to reach. she's skipping on the stage with a curve on her lips and her eyes forming to a crescent shape. she switches in between the formations, staying on the side and drops a small line.
DROP DROP DROP
she moves to the sound of the beat, primarily a drum-based noise and she's quick to pick up on it, moving her body as she prepares to transition over to singing. while she may not belt out notes and do runs and riffs, sakura could hold a note and tune with the sound of her voice, soft and airy, also lighthearted. she doesn't want to hold any of the others back sakura can show her own shining charisma with her charms!
너와 나의 MIX AND MATCH 빼지 말고 DRUNKEN
고고베베
sakura forms in a line with xuxi and yuri, in the center and winks at the camera cutely, with a cheeky grin on her face as she finds the meaning in the song that the best thing to do is enjoy living in the moment. she has minor levels of anxiety and which is what contributed to her being afraid to go on the stage and presence left unknown in the music industry until she found people who helped find out the possibilities of her blooming talents! being with xuxi and yuri gives her that sentiment, she'll remember being on the stage with her friends.
LOOK UP THE HERE FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS 난 나의 피사체 무시해 잔소린 음소거 CLICK CLICK 삑 이렇다저렇다 가타부타 꼭 말 많은 애들이 먼저 영화에선 DIE해 SO RAISE 자기애
she places her hand on her hip, following through the choreography and raps one more time. her rapping style has cuteness but is also chic, she's trying to go for more of a sassy and chic vibe! from the genres, she's experimented with being on the mnet global auditions made her a capable and versatile rapper. she'd been discouraged in the past that she couldn't rap cause her sound wasn't suited for rapping or she didn't fit the "criteria" but that didn't stop sakura, she views it as empowerment to continue to pursue what she wanted to do and develop her skills in rapping. xuxi takes over singing and his deep voice is a smooth transition from her rap.
 DROP DROP DROP
너와 나의 MIX AND MATCH 빼지 말고 DRUNKEN
she sings the best she can, the lines aren't very hard either. xuxi and yuri are in charge of belting and harmonies, she's responsible for rapping and the rendition of the piece came out lovely. she's learned a thing or two about harmonizing in groups, breath control's essential to singing, just as much as rapping relies on that too. together, all of the three dance and sing! her favourite part about the song is the beat. she moves her hips, swaying them and her hand gestures are lively!
고고베베
sakura sings her line and then continues to jam to the sound of yuri's sweet voice.
NINE / SIX SIX NINETEEN NINE / SIX 고고베베
her pre-recorded voice is louder than her rapping out loud, ringers and she breaks into several poses before stretching her leg out as part of the dance. then, pulls herself back up and continues rapping while holding the microphone carefully. xuxi and yuri are singing in between lines after.
너와 나의 MIX AND MATCH 빼지 말고 DRUNKEN
the song was coming to an end soon, that was her last line and it was short and simple. the korean words in this song weren't hard for sakura to memorise either, she got them within an 'or two. she grins and holds up a peace sign as she enjoys the last half thirty seconds she has on the stage before the next trio comes up! running her fingers through her hair, she skips and dances happily. the formation of the choreography was adjusted to make it three instead of four! she sings one more time, harmonising with yuri and xuxi. lastly, she makes a pose prior to the song being cut.
it's ended.
she takes a bow and thanks the contestants and judges for their time, waving both hands in the air to say her goodbye and leaves off with a smile on her face. she'll definitely stay longer until the show ends to see how everything else turns out. it's better to be safe than sorry anyway. it seems that this day, the nervousness is rising back up once she's not on that stage anymore. music is a source of peace for sakura, helping her when she feels that there's a strain in her feelings or when everything else didn't feel right. the fire is growing in this competition, sakura didn't want to feed into it. the best weapon is to smile!
