i was never a star trek fan but i know how important representation is and how nichelle paved the way for a lot of people. to everyone mourning her, know that she has been working her entire life and now she gets to rest. u guys r loved <3
the fact that william shatner tweeted once about how nichelle nichols will be sorely missed and how great she was and went right back to blogging about how star trek was never about social justice and was never political at all is really fucking saying something
Mom died the same day as Nichelle Nichols, so that’s neat. The funeral was yesterday. I wrote both the obituary and the eulogy, and delivered the latter. I’m so tired.
Was Star Trek the first inclusive bunch? They had a female colored officer, a gay Jap and a Ukrainian Vulcan. Come to think of it, the Scotsman who could beam people up was the least interesting character!
I remember when she came out the whole line got quiet and then cheered. It was like welcoming royalty. She looked right at me in line with my uneven green makeup (a poor attempt at She-Hulk, Attorney at Law) and gave this big smile and said "You look BEAUTIFUL!"
When it was my turn I told her what an honor it was to meet her. She said the honor was hers, and shook my hand, reiterating her compliment about my cosplay.
But the honor was really, really mine.
Rest in power among the stars, Nichelle. I will never forget you.
