I'll say this much:

A lot of people who've gone through really awful friendship experiences, usually involving abuse or betrayal, tend to hard-correct their expectations and over-value "loyalty" above everything else.

And while there's nothing inherently wrong with setting your own standards for what a friendship is, you should know that standard is very attractive to serial abusers and financial grifters.

If you do not feel comfortable calling out a friend for bad behavior, that person is in fact not your friend.

Let me repeat that:

If you do not feel comfortable calling out a friend for bad behavior, that person is in fact not your friend.

If you think any kind of calling out: gentle prodding, pointing out a mistake, correcting a misconception or asking them to stop perpetuating any level of bigotry... if you think any of that is inherently an attack, you might have found yourself in the thrall of a narcissist abuser.

Because here's the thing, friends want friends to be better. Friends want friends to be comfortable and happy and not in pain. For someone to be their friend, they need to care about you and your well-being at least much as they expect you to care about theirs. If you're not at liberty of point out when they've hurt you or when they've done you harm? That person is not your friend.

And I know that can be devastating to discover. I understand that sometimes we're in the orbit of very charismatic people and it's disappointing and a little scary when they do something that's wrong - say something they might not realize is racist or homophobic or just plain factually wrong - and there's that moment of panic of, "oh god, am I really going to be That Guy?" But if they're really your friend, if you do care about them, you should have faith in them.

If they're your friend, you should be able to reach out in private and point out the problem, and the reaction shouldn't be inherently aggression and outrage for you daring to speak up. Because if they're your friend, they will be sorry and upset and possibly horrified, that they hurt you. They will ask how to correct and make amends and they will speak with you about how to go about it. Because you not being hurt will be far more important to them, than appearing to always be right.

Just... think about it. Think about your friendships. It's always heartbreaking to realize you care about someone a lot more than they care about you, but it's important to acknowledge it, because that's the only way you can avoid being blindsided.

And there's also nothing wrong with caring more about someone who doesn't really care about you, per se. You just have to be aware that's how it is, and set your own expectations. Knowing is always infinitely more comforting than living with the anxiety of not being sure where you stand, with the people you love.

And if you're in the other side of this conversation, if you're in a position where you see friendship as merely ego-stroking and any kind of challenge to your worldview as an inherent betrayal... maybe take a moment to think about it? Sycophants are really comfy, but they're not really friends. Imagine what it'd be like, if you could actually connect with people, make genuine bonds and actually form two-way relationships, instead of perpetually isolating yourself up in your pedestal of untouchable, unquestionable obedience. Just... food for thought.

GOOD MORNING I'm going to talk about Rie's + Light for a minute because I haven't posted much outside of rebirth recently and I love her.

some of it is just notes to remember tbh ahhshsh

- she gives him a sparkly pink pen with a pom-pom on the end after they learn about the death note because she thinks she's funny (light used it)

- she punched him once

- when watching the Yagami security footage she said: "my apologies chief yagami but your son is likely a psychopath. and also gay, but that's not something to apologise for."

- she really likes his hair

- one time she asked if she could cut open his head and study his brain (he said no)

- mimics his voice back at him whenever he says something annoying

- turns off the hot water system whenever he has a shower. also disconnects the light and A/C to his room, not too bothered about the collateral damage (L)

- drinks coffee and slurps it loudly whenever he's talking. she's so...

- is always badgering him about what a bad job he's doing as Kira and how much better she'd be at it in the hopes he'll correct her and thus prove his guilt/add facts to the case. also to show off. "Damn Light if I were Kira, everyone on this task force would be long dead just saying.... what are you waiting for, the opportunity for an evil monologue?"

- visited his house at one point to sweep for evidence

- doesn't actually dislike him, especially not when he's not Kira. maybe they could have been friends (who would still annoy the soul out of each other) in another life.

Curufin and Tyelko reflect on how to deal with explaining the kinslayings to their daughters.

Introducing my oc's:

Post-reembodiment Curufinrod baby: Italmë* Ríëlairë (I'm naming the way I did when I was ten, by putting things together and hoping the dictionary is correct! It should mean Sparkling Blessing, and Summer Crown)

Everyday someone thanks Eru for the fact that she wasn’t born in the first age, girlie is feral! If Tyelpe is the best parts of Curufin and Finrod then she is the worst of them, but for everyone’s well being she was also born when Curufin and Finrod are at their best and most stable so instead of murder and destruction she is merely mischievous.

Curufin is rather upset that neither of his kids got his eyes.

(*: Father name slightly pending, my original idea was Italinquë, the Ita being non-negociable as it's meant to be a connection to Itarille/Idril, but linquë could be hyacinth, grass or wet, and while I think I could argue for grass I don't think I can for wet, other options being: Itarinya, Itelena/Italena, and Ithilmë)

And Post-reembodiment Aretyel baby: Mírestel Áraiel (should be Precious Hope, and Daughter of Dawn)

Aredhel and Tyelko fully decided not to get married (yes I am disregarding LaCE) and everyone got very confused when they anounced they were expecting (and Turgon very violent)

The birth gets Aredhel emotional because her whole family is with her this time.

Áraiel has a mean look, and considering Maeglin and Tyelko, a lot of people on first meeting think she’s a cruel person but she’s really nice and helps keep Riëlairë in check, again she is getting her parents at their best and stable, but she’s also getting Maeglin at his best and stable and so she really likes her older brother.

(This prompts her to become a smith which leads Tyelko to joke that Curvo is stealing his kids, plural)

Also, everyone decides on very special and meaningful names meanwhile Curvo just pulls a Nerdanel and goes "Look at my baby, it's the most beautiful baby, everyone should just look at the baby I made!"
