What is that one guitar solo or lick you would love to learn? Seriously.
@therockandrollyears thanks for asking
This is a tough one. Almost every lick Larry Carlton plays on AJA. His playing is all over that record and without him it’s half as good.
Or anything Knopfler plays on Making Movies. The guy never stops, he’s using the edge of the pick on the few songs he doesn’t finger pick. Like my next candidate he’s bending strings a half step up or down so effortlessly you don’t realize what he’s done until you attempt it yourself.
Or Gilmour. Jesus he’s sneaky, the airy solos sound so simple that it isn’t until you’re trying to emulate him that you realize you should just quit. My homeboy Rick DiFonzo did a damn fine job with Roger Waters some years back. Listen to him on The Wall in Germany.
But it’s this guy. Jeff Beck remained the guy to beat until his death. Never content to play an unadorned note when there was so much more to do, Beck, like Knopfler and Gilmour bent notes to make a simple blues run transcendental. His trem bar was always at hand sending his solos soaring. My guitar hero.

Michael Kamen's career had a variety of surprises as we have seen, though I would dare to suggest he did a lot to bridge the classical and the popular with his opus. One of the pinnacles of the approach might be his collaboration with Roger Waters, when the latter did The Wall in Berlin. Yes, he did hold these concerts after the real one there got demolished, so the entire album gained another dimension. Of course, Waters continued to be Waters, which resulted in a rock opera on steroids, because he called many guests to transform the album into whatever he planned. Some cooperators surprise you, though. I mean, Bryan Adams doesn't sound like someone you would put your trust here, yet Waters' hunch proved to be correct, since the Canadian rocker presented a rarely shown side of his.
