this is the rhizophysa filiformis, my absolute favorite siphonophore.
it is around 4 inches when contracted, and can be a couple feet long when stretching its tentacles for catching prey. it has been reported to be around 500m deep in the ocean, and is in the rhizophysidae family! it is currently found in the mediterranean sea, the gulf of mexico, and in the north atlantic ocean.
