people don’t talk about hilda (from the netflix show) enough and how absolutely insane she is. and by that i mean how she takes the Traditional Hero trope to the absolute extremes. she is filled with overwhelming whimsy; adventure is drawn to her like a goddamn magnet and absolutely NO ONE can stop her from pursuing it. and if they even try to get in her way then fuck them. this kid’s normal tuesday means possibly dying multiple times and fighting The Horrors. everyone around her is concerned for her and the unstoppable magical girl powers that she wields but she absolutely WILL be a little shit about it because she was pulled from her whimsical littol cottage in the woods where she played with trolls and forced to move to fucking Normal Non-Magic Town. turns out going to Normal Town is only a minor setback and soon she’s back on the befriending magical creatures (a GIANT TALKING RAVEN) grind. she’s so Magical Girl Protagonist that even her own mother is terrified for her.

put simply: hilda subverts the magical girl trope in such a way that makes her a threat to normal society. and i love her for that

Irina/Sharon (Xenoblade X) - I’m sorry but it’s real and nothing will change my mind. I’m now disallowing myself any more Xeno- ships because that would be too easy.

Really hard to say tbh, as said before was never much of a shipper. I think the first one I was ever made aware of was Hilda/N from Pokemon BW, since one of the first fanfics I ever read was under that category (though given I’m transfem and N is great autistic rep I think I can explain the interest with hindsight)

Impossible to answer. I listen to parts my library pretty much daily and it depends on what part of my hyperfixation cycle I’m in. I don’t remember atm, but right now it’s either Hearing Things (Armoured Core 6), Ascension (FFXVI), or Dancing With The Source (Divinity 2), specifically the Tambura version.

Oh I've thought of two more, MidZel(ink?) (Midna x Zelda x Link sometimes from Twilight Princess) and an obscure one that grew on me recently: Marianne x Sylvain, also from Fire Emblem: 3 houses. I've been watching their supports again and I actually think they pair together pretty well, also ice and fire magic helps thematically to me.

Hey punchie, finally tried Hilda and I quite liked the simple designs and found it quite enjoyable (I'm still in episode 7 though). Also, do you have any series similar to it? I had my doubts since it reminded me of the Loud house, but I guess any movie or serie that came from books or comics is mostly good. I say this from Big Hero 6 and Origins of the Guardians being some of my favorites.

LOh yeah, s1 Hilda is so cozy. But brace yourself for s2. Still good, but man it's a roller coaster.

OH! Wander Over Yonder for sure. It's on Disney+ for sure.

It's funny, slice of life, full of good vibrations and being so positive. It's done by the guy who also did Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. I'm actually gradually rewatching it atm.

Another of his shows that I can recommend is Kid Cosmic. That's on Netflix. Not as funny, but it's an interesting watch, and I still need to see s2.

Another that comes to mind is not so cozy and has snippets of being dark or uncomfortable: The Dragon Prince. It's being worked on by the head writer of Avatar the Last Airbender Aaron Ehasz, who did some of the most amazing episodes from the show with his wife (at the time), Elizabeth Welch (Zuko Alone, Southern Raiders, ect.). They also brought in Sokka's VA to choice the male lead Callum, and this show loves doing little nods to Avatar. I will say, it's not a perfect show, the narrative can go a little weird here and there, but I also think they weren't sure if they were going to get more after s3. Apparently they are. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

That's to name a few shows. But Wander Over Yonder would be my highest recommendation if you want something along the lines of Hilda in being optimistic and wholesome.

ok ok one of the things (things? let's call them, um, problems, eh) with ctm in s. 9 is the stability of the main cast. so i'm rewatching some of s. 6 atm and there's some serious movement. trixie comes back after an extended time in south africa, patsy goes to hong kong for an extended period, and cynthia/sister mary cynthia comes back, briefly. And valerie comes in as a long term character, and reggie as a new recurring character. s. 7 sees patsy and delia having disappeared, lucille arrive and barbara die. s. 8 sees sister winifred go, and sisters hilda and frances appear, together with mother mildred. so so so part of the reason for all this turnover  was that actors wanted/needed time off to have babies/pursue other projects/whatever but i think even if that was a narrative headache for the writers (and i think they did grumble a bit about it in interviews) and even if at times it felt like the show was in a cycle of 'someone leaves! someone comes! someone else leaves! someone else comes!' it did mean that some more serious, impactful narrative jeopardy could be introduced.

but in s. 9, the main cast is utterly static, and the only real comings and goings are with minor semi-recurring characters, sergeant woolf, dr kev and val's gran. and because these are only minor characters about whom we only sort of care, the effectiveness of their storylines is reduced, and the impact of the series as a whole is lessened.

I do! My memory is really bad with these types of things but I'm currently rewatching A:TLA and it's one of my absolute favourite shows in general tbh!! I also watched hilda recently and that was v precious

I’d probably best to send this again, maybe more focused on certain characters at a later date. I’m currently doing a rewatch of the whole series (I’ve just finished the movie atm) so that should help but off the top of my head here’s a few since S3 is somewhat fresh.

Due to Hilda’s fairy background, Frida is able to siphon some essence and cast certain spells that require it (it’s like donating blood…without the blood, it’s safe). This however led Kaisa to inquire on how she was able to cast those old spells. Frida spilled the beans on Hilda and Johanna being part fairy and Kaisa wondered if getting essence from a half-fairy would be more potent and so she and Frida went to Hilda’s place. When Kaisa saw Johanna it was love-at-first-sight and she completely forgot about y she came over at first. Johanna was hesitant on what Kaisa wanted but offered to go get some tea at a cafe sometime and discuss it. This led to their first date, then their second and so on. Eventually Hilda got a witch step-mom.

After her time as a Troll, Hilda developed a slight fear of bells. While not as painful as it was when she was a troll but she can’t stand the noise.

David became an entomologist due to his strange magnetism of insects and general fascination. Louise helps take pictures of whatever bug he’s studying for his research papers. The most annoying bug he’s dealt with was the Mothman during a research trip to America alongside Hilda.

Louise became a photographer, she helps David and Hilda with their research but she is also an award winning photographer.

Alfur with a continued note-taking partnership with Adeline eventually after a few years presented her with “Engagement to be Married” papers and she signed gleefully. After a few months of planning and revisions, the wedding was both tiny and had all of the proper paperwork filed in order (Bartell was Alfur’s best elf).

Eugene eventually made it to the sea but after he saw the Trolburg harbor he makes it a point to come by and try out new material with the sailors. This annoys the freaky friends since they still don’t find him funny but the sailors do.

Frida was given a witch’s cloak as a gift from Tilde. Similar to the one Kaisa wears. It was made from Witches’ Wool, an ancient recipe lost to all but a few witches in that dimension. She explained its origins being from a demon realm where witches live on a Titan’s rotting corpse but all portals there have dryed up over the centuries.

Deputy (now Chief) Gerda while a more “by the books” chief of the safety patrol, was more understanding towards magical creatures and issues and preferred to listen first before making decisions. This has led to a number of new rules within Trolburg to accommodate its more mystical citizens as she worked to get humans more comfortable with their strange neighbors.

Wood Man slowly rebuilt the cabin Hilda and her mom lived in. He says it’s so he can have a second home away from home but secretly it’s so his old neighbors would visit more often, which they do.

Aunt Astrid helped teach Johanna and Hilda a bit of fairy magic. While it’s not as strong as it was back at fairy country and because they’re part human but there’s still a few spells that they can perform, mostly minor things (think Cantrips in D&D)

Johanna and Astrid made Hilda a new sweater with fairy magic and charms woven into it. She wears it always (washing it often of course)

That’s just a few off the top of my head atm. Hopefully after rewatching S3 I can think of some more
