How did you first see Slayers and Storm Hawks? Also, which dubs do you prefer?
Oh, an ask. Very nice.
Guess I'll start with Slayers since it's the oldest of the two. I probably found it in the most unconventional manner as a kid just exploring the internet. I was browsing Neopets user pages when I came across a video of Slayers Royal. Now, since this was at the start of the 90s Anime boom and I was getting into it thanks to Sailor Moon and Pokemon, I was very much hooked on it. I tried to get as much information and content on it as I could from exploring webpages on it to reading fanfiction. I also watched a few clips online as well as DVDs from my local video store and library (Also episodes on the internet every now and then). That obsession did die down for a time until Slayers Revo/Evo-R came and breathed new life into the fandom and me.
As for Storm Hawks, this one's a little bit more practical than my Slayers introduction. I was staying over at a family friend's house that had cable. As I browsing channels, I saw an ad for it on Cartoon Network's special and I was like, "Okay, seems interesting." When that two-parter premiered, I became obsessed with it. The world, the characters, all of it. Like before, I started to consume its content from fanmade to episodes on Youtube. And while I wished that the show was a bit more story-driven and mature than presented, I still like it to this day.
Now, it did take a while for me to think of a crossover between the two (As well as others for Storm Hawks). As I said, my obsession with Slayers was kinda dead around that time. But when it came back in full force, I decided to combine the two series for my own self-indulgence. Right now, I have some unrelated one-shots/drabbles that I've written as well as multiple story threads in my head. Will I write an epic fic of the two someday? Maybe. But that could be a long time. =3;
For dubbing, I definitely prefer the Slayers English version as it has a lot of the memorable voice cast that was prevalent during the 90s/Early 2000s. Though the Japanese version is good and I should watch it sometime when I marathon the series. I'm not sure in Storm Hawks has any other dubbing other than the Spanish or Russian episodes that occasionally pop up on youtube. In any case, I like to imagine both of the voice casts interacting with one another for scenarios. It's to think about Crispen Freeman's Zelgadis bantering with Scott McNeil's Stork.

But it’s hard to save the world It’s hard to save the world When you’re falling in love~
This idea hit me around when New started, so I’ve been working on it for a while in between my other project.  Loosely inspired by the new edition cover for Re-Turn, and a little bit from the 2002 series opening, but mostly I just wanted these kids looking strong and happy together.

O lei o lai, o lei o lord He will tear your city down O lei o lai... Oh~
We are kicking off  @week-of-revo ! I chose the Fantasy prompt for today and I'm taking full advantage of the polyship inclusion, so here's an Encourageshipping adventuring party! Yugi is the mage, Téa is the melee fighter and the face, and Atem is the long range fighter. With the soft coloring and background, I was able to get a kind of storybook feel that I'm really happy with! I'm also really proud of these designs ^.^

For day 3 of @week-of-revo, I chose the Gaming prompt!  Téa and Atem become a powerful impostor duo in Among Us!  I got a little carried away with this one, and you might have to open the images in a new tab to read some of the dialogue ^^;
Among Us is probably my favorite game to imagine characters playing together.  It’s varied but still simple, and you can get so many unique interactions out of it.

Ok here’s a post I wanna do before Bravely Default 2 comes out, these are just some stray thoughts and sort of prediction type things that I wanna put out before these are probably rendered irrelevant. There may be some spoilers for the previous games here so watch out because those will be below the image! These are mainly crazy theories and subtle hopes so.. yea!
Tumblr media
My prediction for the subtitle, the Roman numerals/ 2 being more than it seems is that...... I believe it actually represents a pause button, I know it’s a bit out there, but considering the previous games’ relation to the bravely second mechanic where time is stopped in battle (although I don’t know if this kind of feature is retiring or not) I could see the fourth wall break somewhere where pausing the game is needed in the plot. A bit of a stretch maybe but it’s the best thing I can think of.
Next is a few interesting things I’ve thought about after playing the demo, while it’s abundantly clear that there is no direct correlation to the previous titles, such as old characters and that this is a new world, not luxandarc I’m not expecting any huge plot relevance to those games.
However. I’ve noticed that the plot beats of the new game are similar to the original bravely, Awakening the crystals, Gloria shares similarities with Agnés in her role, starting in a desert area in the demo (although octopath did this too so bit of a stretch there) I’m not saying it completely follows the og to a T but there is similarities. This either means :
I’m thinking way too into this and it’s simply a return to form, especially for those who played the original and are picking up this one after a long time they want to follow some patterns (this is most likely true)
Or.. my other theory is that Bravely Default 2 is a mirror of the original Bravely Default, while not a direct sequel like Second it instead mirrors the original in terms of plot and other stuff, which may play in to the later story, bravely has alternate worlds, and who’s to say this game’s setting isn’t one of these, where Luxendarc never came to be and Exelant happened instead etc.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and it may also work with the end scene in second and the whole Planeswarden thing. The other thing to support this theory lies in the music.
Now once again, this is all speculation and could be me thinking way to into nothing. Revo is back doing the music, as they did in B1, what’s interesting is that there are a lot of motifs and and call backs to B1 in B2’s soundtrack. The most obvious is the intro to the normal battle theme, which I made a meme of. This could just be Revo’s way of composing and keeping to the original with little snippets like this, after all two games in a series have gotta have some shared motifs in music. Another motif I caught was in the field overworld theme where the latter part is very reminiciant of old tracks as well, it feels really nostalgic :) And again that might just be it. Nostalgia, Revo is composing just as they used to.
Which is what I would be inclined to believe completely if it not for the fact that motifs in bravely’s OST are really significant or hint to certain things, and I adore hints of symbolism like this. Some examples in B1 is the Ba’al theme featuring Airy’s theme, while the two aren’t directly linked in the plot, it does show that both are enemies in a sense, and in second Anne, her sister was pulling the strings and such. Another interesting one is Florem’s theme (an absolute masterpiece of a song) where it really is a slowed down version of That Person’s Name Is, the asterisk boss theme. As Florem is a hub of corruption and under the influence of the asterisk holders this is really cool to me, that the song features the antagonists theme throughout but isn’t overt at unless you pay close attention to it. It’s almost like story telling in music in a way!
Anyway. What I’m trying to say here is that these music throwbacks and motifs may have more meaning than just being similar to the original...or not, depends what happens! Apart from the obvious title theme and other overt uses of the motifs, there is one song in the demo that really caught my attention that may support my “Mirror theory”
There is a song which annoyingly I can’t find since I don’t know the name, and I don’t want to search up the OST since I’m pretty sure at this point the OST from the full game is up on YouTube and I don’t want to run the risk of getting spoiled by song titles.
This song plays in the demo in the talk with Prince Castor, and it sounds like a reconstruction of Bravely Default one’s Melody of Nostalgic Reminiscence. It has the same instrumentation however it’s almost...muddled. Some sound bites are there but others aren’t. I’m sure this isn’t the only song to do this, but it sparked the theory for me that this game is a mirror of the original, not a complete retelling, but some things are the same in both. If that makes any sense.
Finally of things I want to know about in this game is if there will be any referral or fight with Ba’al Firstborn, the ba’al that never had any plot relevance and was simply fought on the moon base, there’s always stuff in the bravely series that hints toward a sequel such as the magnolia cutscene and such so maybe firstborn will have something more to do in this. Or not.
I might make another post if there’s anything else but these are my theories and thoughts that are heavily just me wanting to find similarities and just obsessing over a game series I adore.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far :D

The Perfect Night :: Prt1
“Ni a gnir fo snroht. Rednu eht wodahs fo a lluf noom.  Htiw eht riah fo a nettogrof erutaerc. Dedlem htiw eht htaerb fo a tnesdiov.  Deliob ni eht doolb fo enoemos tsol. Revo a dloc erif.”
“In a ring of thorns. Under the shadow of a full moon. With the hair of a forgotten creature. Melded with the breath of a voidsent. Boiled in the blood of someone lost. Over a cold fire.”
Tumblr media
Asdis drank a flask full of ether as the lesser moon overcame the larger moon. All the animals and beasts in the forest made sounds of panic as the night became darker. Asdis remained calm.
She casted a small blizzard overhead. Then Asdis sighed into the glass mortar. Her warm breath was caught on the sides in the cold. Speedily,  she cut some fur tuff from around her ear put in as well. She took the bottle with the rust red blood and poured it into the alchemy bowl forcing it meld with the other ingredients.
She continued to melded the potion items together at great cost to herself. Taking a handful of ampoules from her sleeve pocket. She broke the vials in her mouth. The hi-ether straightens her vision enough to see she was causing clouds to cover the sky above her. Achlys stood back silent to watch her other half struggle.
Asdis’s breathing became ragged as she swept away the thick purple clouds that gathered over her. The spell caused a windstorm to tear through the canopy as it whipped away the clouds.
Asdis couldn’t mind it though. The shadow of the full moon was dwindling. She took the marbled jewel into her hand and with the other held the mortar. The previous time Asdis attempted this technique it did not give the desired results. The scars over her hands as evidence, but these were desperate times. Dalumad could perhaps never overstep Menphina again.
Asdis' whole arms shook with exhaustion. The sweat on her brow was falling over and burning her eyes with the salt.
Still, she casted the spell of her own creation with a touch of joy. As a cluster of ice built over her hand, from the ice came a flame. A blue flame. The mixture in the mortar turned blue to match. Then, yellow, red and then a burned black before becoming shades lighter as it bubbled like oil in water.
White. Asdis needed to wait until it was white. She held the spell for the longest time, but it was the weakness of her hands that had gotten the better of her. Asdis began to read the geometric symbols on her wrists too late. She lost all sense of her hands. She couldn’t catch the bowl. Only watch as the snow white liquid spread on the ground around her.
Fat droplets of salted water fell from her eyes before she could consider the situation, yet the mixture began to eat away at the ground. It revealed a different land underneath.
Asdis for the first time since she came to this time was seeing her homeland. She could hear the music of the fairies. She could smell sweet dew of purple grasslands. She could see the ethereal light, but she could not feel it. She could not cross. The spaces where her tears fell remind white and when Asdis tried to push herself through her hands only came up with mud.
The moonlight came out again making the images disappear as it became something similar to the smell and appearance of black foam.
“Emoh nsi’t tahw uoy kees syawyna,” Achlys said from her side of Asdis’s mind. Words of comfort or words of mockery. Asdis did not know.
Losing control of herself, Asdis let herself go to an overwhelming feeling of despair. Achlys seized this chance to come forward.
Asdis’s body stood and spoke under the voidsent’s control. She looked at the pile of burned black goo at her feet. Looked at the full moons in the sky without concern. Achlys could only be concerned with one objective. An intense physical pain demanding to be attended.
“I was a person once too.” Achlys said with Asdis’s voice as she widened Asdis’s senses.  “Now-” Achylys took in a deep breath of the aetherflow, “Now I am only hungry.”

Perfectly Aligned Chapter Masterlist
Here’s the playlist of songs to go along with each chapter of Perfectly Aligned, whether they inspired chapters, were something I listened to while writing the chapter itself, or some combo of the two.

Note
when did you become a fan of Furukawa? i really want to learn your story of being a fanmom~💟
That’s an excellent question…….
It is rather hard to pinpoint the exact moment, but I think this dates back to 2012 when I became entirely smitten with Takarazuka Moon Troupe’s “Elisabeth” 2009.
Tumblr media
There are no words for how much I adore Sena Jun’s Death, and my favourite scene was ‘Die Schatten werden länger’ where Death manipulates Elisabeth by manipulating Rudolf into suicide.
I however, found myself disappointed by Rudolf in this musical, because he seemed nothing more than a poor puppy that was just supposed to be kicked for maximum woobie-effect. I thought that perhaps the problem was the actress playing him, so I started digging for more versions of Takarazuka’s “Elisabeth”. Even after having seen many, many Rudolfs however, I still had the feeling something was lacking, but I could not put my finger on what that something was.
Then not long after, I found Furukawa’s Rudolf. Of course his portrayal in 2012 was nothing compared to his Rudolf in 2016, but even back then his voice alone conveyed an unbelievable emotion.
Tumblr media
Rudolf was both strong and broken at the same time, which was very refreshing after the long series of just-woobie-Rudolfs. Despite being strong (though struggling and crumbling), there was something in his voice that was so incredibly fragile and hoping as well. In short, I did not know what exactly I was looking for, but Furukawa made me realise that this thing was ‘duality’ in this character.
At the time however, I was not really ‘fan-mom’ yet, but he did leave a mark on me.
In 2015 when Furukawa was announced as Sebastian, I immediately started worrying, because my only impression of him until that point was the soft-boii. “Would this ‘soft-boii’ be able to play Trash Demon™?” (Furukawa used to be type-cast as woobie characters a LOT. And especially after he returned from his dismissal by TOHO in 2013, he appeared even softer).
In the most spectacular fashion, Furukawa proved everyone wrong; none of the softness about him was visible in his Sebastian. I had in fact never seen anything as monstrous, and was incredibly impressed with Furukawa’s boldness to ‘try defy elegant-Sebastian canon’ and go for the beast-like interpretation.
This is the tweet by Yana that made me go: “Same Yana, same.”
Tumblr media
“When the production committee showed me Mr. Furukawa for the first time through a video, I trembled with the thought: “S-such a fresh and gentle-looking young man for Sebas…!? I can’t imagine this.” But now every time I see him, [Mr. Furukawa] always manages to charm and move me, making me go “Eek~ So evil and yet so cool!” (My vocabulary is not rich enough for this)”【Toboso】
According to Furukawa himself too, playing Sebastian was a very important steppingstone in breaking free from the soft-image people had of him. It was indeed only after “The Lycoris that Blazes the Earth”, that he started getting more diverse roles, and was truly able to show the full arsenal of skills he has.
What finally blew me away entirely was his portrayal of Robespierre in TOHO’s 2016 musical Dance Dance Revo uh “1789 - The Lovers of the Bastille”. I have seen a lot of portrayals of Robespierre due to the French Revolution hype in Japan (in the theatre world in general I believe), but Furukawa’s portrayal was the first dualistic evil Robespierre I had seen. The script of the musical mostly told the build-up towards the revolution in 1789 wherein the historic Robespierre still played a role as ‘the benevolent father-figure’.
Furukawa however, managed to incorporate the aspect of the man who would later be responsible for the Reign of Terror. Whenever he was interacting with the revolutionaries on stage, Furupierre was angelic. But the moment he turned away and faced the audience instead, he would show a side that was cold as ice, calculative, and incredibly manipulative. In the scene where the revolt hit its climax, Furupierre could no longer hide his manipulative grimace, and with just one twitch of his lips, it was as though you could see the plans he was cooking up to rule France himself after the revolution.

And from that point on… I just decided I needed to join the league of fan-moms AND PROTECT HIM LIKE A MAD DOG!
Thank you for your interest, Anon ^^

astahrios replied to your post: In conclusion: All of you need to join me in Sound...
Hey I’m nobody but I’ve been wanting to get into sound horizon for a while so I would love to know what you’re talking about :)
Aw hell yeah
Recap of basics - Sound Horizon is a band created by a guy named Revo back in 2001 who went pro in 2004, and you may know them from their alter band Linked Horizon who did the OST for the first Bravely Default game and..... unfortunately..... openings, endings, and other vocal songs for Attack on Titan (Revo also composed Moon Pride for Momoiro Clover Z and Sailor Moon Crystal). Band members that aren’t Revo tend to cycle in and out as needed, and as time has gone by their music has slowly morphed into something that’s a bit closer to musical theater than most music albums and concerts.
All of their stuff is so so so good and I could spend days just giving you albums to listen to and concerts to watch, but to start you off I recommend the albums I’ve been rambling about today, prologue maxi CD Ido e Itaru Mori e Itaru Ido and 7th Story Album Märchen, as well as their live concert performance. These two releases together make up the band’s seventh major storyline, with IdoIdo setting the stage for Märchen. IdoIdo is about a murdered boy named März, the boy’s dearest friend Elisabeth, and the boy’s mother Therese, while Märchen focuses on a man named Märchen von Friedhof and his doll companion Elise, who set out to get revenge on the world by assisting fairy tale characters in their own revenges. It’s probably the best of the band’s albums to jump into as a newbie as well as my first albums for the band. Also, there’s some pretty buck wild guests on them, like Azumi Inoue (the lady who sang the My Neighbor Totoro theme song), Akio Ohtsuka (VA for Iskandar in Fate among many others), and Hatsune Miku (yes, that one).
If you want to watch the concert, I have my hardsubbed copy of the full thing here on Google Drive (do note that the subs may be a bit chewed up from the hardsubbing process, I had some Issues getting it to sub). There are also two noncanon manga adaptations, Kyuuyaku Märchen (Old Testament Märchen) by Soga Shiina and Shinyaku Märchen (New Testament Märchen) by Torikai Yasuyuki. Two different scanlation groups are working on each, so you can find Kyuuyaku Märchen here and here, and Shinyaku Märchen here and here. Kyuuyaku is a bit hit-or-miss, but Shinyaku is very very good, and I highly recommend reading it after you watch the concert.
Also, heads up if you watch that this particular album and its manga adaptations can get pretty dark and graphic! There’s a lot of violence and death, and while the concert is low on nasty stuff by virtue of being a stage production, both mangas can get really blood- and gore-filled, so be cautious. If you do watch and read all this though, then have fun!!! I’ve got more Sound Horizon where that came from if you decide this stuff is good!!!!

Bravely Default Flying Fairy OST Music Review by: (Younger) Harley Nufable
When I was younger, one of my favorite games to play was Bravely Default on the 3DS. Bravely Default Flying Fairy is a JRPG video game developed by Square Enix and its studio album for the original soundtrack was released in October 10, 2012. The album features a range of tracks that fall under the genres of Symphonic Rock and Operatic Rock. This means it incorporates themes form the genre of opera and metal featuring performance with players operating like an orchestra with the presence of more modern instruments like electric guitars and synths. The album features tracks that are inspired by music from old-school video games, but because of the evolution of technology, the video game music is able to feature music produced from that of an orchestra as long as it is mixed well enough to be played on the Nintendo 3DS system.
The composer of the album is Revo from Linked Horizon. Revo is also a member of the band Sound Horizon, but his composition for this album is one of his first entries as a solo composer under the name Linked Horizon. Revo’s influences for the OST of the game comes from the works of fellow video game composers in video games like Nobuo Uematsu who composed music for multiple games in the Final Fantasy series under Square Enix. It is great to see Revo following the footsteps of his influences since Bravely Default was also released by Square Enix.
While I was listening to the OST of Bravely Default, two words encapsulated the theme of the OST to me. These words were Nostalgia and Continuity. This is because Revo creatively uses samples of tracks repeatedly throughout different songs in the album. It gives the sense of nostalgia and continuity because as a player progresses more through the game, they would suddenly think to themselves “wow I’ve heard this tune before” but in a different style. Personally, another part of the nostalgia is the influence of the music from Final Fantasy games since I was also a fan of the franchise in the past.
The first track of the OST is “Overture to Hope.” This is also the main theme of the game. As the main theme, its role is to encapsulate what happens and the emotions felt through the whole game. It starts with a buildup as if one is going to start with their journey, and through the track, there are highs and lows in the energy of the music. The highs are played with instruments like brass and loud percussions while lows are played softer with pianos and strings. The melody of the main theme is also sampled throughout different tracks within the whole album.
The track Four Legends/ Four Tales is like a compilation of samples from songs in the entire album. The music represents the stories of the 4 main characters of the game and their stories before they got together in the game proper. This track is a mix of serious, carefree, liberating, and peaceful in its use of music.
Horizon of Light and Shadow is where the player can get a feel of how the music in the game is going to be. There is a direct reference to the melody of Overture to Hope. The track also plays into the mechanics of the game by differentiating day and night. There is a play with the dynamics of the song and its instrumentation. Loud trumpets, flutes, and percussions are used in daytime then the song becomes more mellow and softer with its instruments as the game shifts to night time.
Revo creatively uses instruments to represent each character, and this is seen in their Special Theme songs namely You’re My Hope, Wind’s Direction, Love’s Vagrant, and Baby Bird. The first character is represented with a Piccolo Flute, the second a violin, the third an accordion, and fourth with a soprano saxophone. In the interactions between characters, the instruments play according to who is relevant in the scene. This is highlighted in the track Beneath the Hollow Moon which plays the piccolo flute and violin when characters 1 and 2 are interacting.
The battle themes of the game are invigorating with the use of loud instruments which hype up the player in defeating their opponent. This is evident in songs like Conflict’s Chime and That Person’s Name Is. The boss themes are also created in segments to maintain the theme of continuity. When the health of the boss reaches a certain amount, the music also unlocks its next segment. It goes from hopeless and dangerous tunes to more hopeful and triumphant tunes. The instruments that represent the characters become louder and louder the more the player succeeds in defeating the boss. This is evident in tracks like Wicked Battle, Wicked Flight, and Serpent Eating the Ground. Since Serpent Eating the Ground is the final boss theme, samples from Overture to Hope, You’re My Hope, Wind’s Direction, Love’s Vagrant, and Baby Bird are played in succession in the climax of the battle and the song.
The continuity and nostalgia are present in the whole OST, and this can give listeners a memorable experience of the game and its music. However, being music that is made for a game, it is difficult for the music to be appreciated to its full extent without knowing the context and story of the game. If one also first ventures into the music presented in the game, it may seem like too much because of the amount of instrumentation used to create its music. There might be a conflict because of the clashing of rock and orchestra. The OST shows Revo’s range in composing music by attaching the music to the game’s story and mechanics. It makes a listener and player need to listen to the music to optimally play the game it was made for.
