secondly, i will gladly share about the au! i don't have much of it planned just yet but. i've been watching ren's s4 for early rentho interactions, and found the first one (as far as being shown/recorded). doc and etho built a pvp arena, and there was a joke about etho being "princess etho". ren calls him that at one point, and so of course my brain exploded. etho also later is in the arena with ren and ren is low on health, and etho tells him to get under cover, that he'll squire for him. "i'm a good squire!"

so the au is, essentially, ren is the top knight in the court, and etho is the princess (it's kinda like how a woman can be king, it's just the title). etho isn't supposed to know battling or anything like that, he's supposed to marry and become queen, he's supposed to do all the courtly things that a princess is expected to do. but, of course, he's interested in fighting, and knight ren is the best there is to teach him. cue etho sneaking out and dressing as a squire and pulling some strings to become ren's squire. ren's job is to protect the princess, so of course he's ready to send etho back but etho pleads with him etc etc. it's very much cliche princess/knight au teehee

Just fine and normal thinkin about etho’s instinctual desire to die in his home but translated to the knight/“and it’s not tonight” verse and I’m WEAK……bc……in that universe….is his home his king??

After the war? He will be ash at the bottom of a pyre, and a name inscribed in the knight’s hall. He knows that this is not what Ren wants to hear. So he pretends.

Will his ash sound like music in the wind? Or will it be silent, scattering across the desert until there’s nothing left to remember?

"and it's not tonight i'm set alight" that verse is very fun to think about in comparison to the "it's not tonight you hold me tight"

"set alight". literally. literally. these two verses within the sphere of ren and etho in this is like. etho's either going to burn in his death for the king, that moment he's waited for all his life to die at home. OR he's going to be held tight:] also by his home. and currently, they're wavering between the two when only one can really be true.

just read the knight n king fic with etho n ren AND THIS IS SO GOOD? like genuinely, I enjoyed the writing and the world itself so so much, all the metafors and stuff, this is so cool!!

it's very late here, and i want to reread it once more when i wake up just to fully grasp all of the references and symbolism, this is just amazing!!

(i also listened inkpot gods by the amazing devil, and it added a new layer of immersion, highly recommend!)

i was in tears while reading most of this chapter it's so well written ren just wants etho to get better and is grieving him because he knows theres almost no chance he'll make it even though he is technically still alive and then the parts with etho's flashbacks to HOW he got injured,, owwwwww my heart

martyn shows up!! ren needs his emotional support bestie during these trying times. and martyn sees right through him instantly, why he cares so much for etho-

they made a truce! the war is over! since etho lived, theyre getting (probably) their happy ending and all shall be well in the world and i am so much looking forward to the final chapter

VARTEENY!!! thank you so much AUUUUUUGH i will admit the both of us cried writing this chapter. multiple times. it was rough out here. i cannot begin to describe how excited we are for the next chapter!! we really wrote the ENTIRE fic just for what's coming. because we're menlikers KSDJHFSKJHKDJF

hey… how you doinnng……. it's me again….. i'll try to keep it nice and simple, but i can't promise anything, so we'll see where the road takes us.

i love the scene where ren loses etho, and he can feel it even before he understand that he lost him. i called etho the human in rens eyes in previous asks, but rn i think it expanded to a level, when etho represent the humanity as a feeling. i'll expand on that a bit later.

i also would really like to make a connection between losing an eye to see more, 'cus at some point etho needs to stop pretending not seeing love in his king eyes. but we'll see how next chapter :]

these whole part when ren commands people to carry etho to medics and there is skizz, "stop dead" i can't, this is.. so much :( and how after ren just can't stand and see how medics try to patch etho, how he needs to do something (i wonder where did we saw that already). the burden of the king is to see death and to know it's his fault. and when the death tries to take the loved once away, then it's unbearable. "let me no have killed him with his war," he thinks.

the scene where etho starts coughing and ren understand that's it's not enough to keep him in his hands to save him, is where i want to mumble about the humanity. 'cus okay, if etho is an anchor for ren, to keep him humane, to remind him, then what would happen if anchor dies? the whole comparison with the star is so on point here - without the constant ship will drift away. into madness, into despair, void knows, but. ship need its anchor. "let him survive this night, let him survive every night after". the fact that this prompted ren not to take revenge, but rather to sit down and stop the war is what is important. i like to think that ren did it while etho was still alive, 'cus he can't know what would happen if he dies.

the way all of the soldiers, alongside with skizz and ren were waiting for the news and how happy were all of them, when etho survived is another point of humanity of etho. the last hope or the first guide, call it whatever. he's so important, yet he's so painfully alive.

the "i love you" from ren, quite and like a prayer. 'cus the loss of the star means death. sun is also a star after all.

i honestly can't mention every detail or reference or this asks, already long enough will be even longer. but just know how much i appreciate them, i just honestly can't write: "he's surrounded by ghost today" AJFSDJIOSDJSDJRWIOJF. and this with every other one.

special thank you for including "a wounded animal. he'll be out of his misery soon" and "he would like to die at his home. his ren". if i say i didn't squeak, i'd be lying.

ren really had to come to terms with a lot this chapter!! what it is to be king and what it is to love, and what he's gonna prioritize in his reign--which we know now is etho and love and life.

and you're very right about ren's anchor!! without etho i think he would slip into god knows where mentally. etho represents everything to ren<33

it was important to us that the soldiers be shown in this chapter. we wanted to really drive home the fact etho is a beloved person to them--that he's been a good leader despite all of it.

and OFC!! ehehehehehe i'm the one who wrote the wounded animal line. it's been driving me crazy for a week now and i don't think it's ever gonna stop!!

laughing, giggling, kicking my fits ohh my fuckingg god i can't get enough! so, im writing it while im reading sooo just keep that in mind why i might not grab all of the stuff quicly.

okay, so, first of all, it really pains me to see how etho thinks he NEED to be useful. like it's such a basic thing, but i really need him to lie down and take a breath. the whole scene after the advisor's meeting left something in my chest and i really can't explain what exactly, certainly not the bad thing! but the whole premiss, this deep feeling of "i'll do anything you'll tell me". aaaand ren is lifthing etho up. okay, my brain short-circuited just now ma gad.(i don't exactly remember my previous ask and idk if you saw it, but it was something along the line, that for ren etho is becoming the reason to continue fighting AND IDK I MIGHT BE WRONG or i might see what i want and not what both of you wanted to say, but oh my god i see it so clearly now). for etho it was near religious experience, but for ren etho is the human ever, not in way "just another one", but in a "the human". etho is so alive and ren want to keep it that way to hide him from harm. omg pov switch im dying. i cannot express how much i feel reading rens part. im not joking. and it echoes so much with what i said about how human etho is in rens eyes. :( "good night, my lord Ren" im jumping into the river. "There is no one to see the love on his face" im drowning. i would comment on chess part but i am in the river, drowned. sry. "I'm calling you, Ren, a liar" millions cheered. but i am so afraid of where this all going, seriously. the whole wine scene was so,,, peaceful, it was so soft and it felt like home, i smiled like an idiot reading it. :( "hes someone has king's eyes" is such i simple phrase yet i can't think about anything anymore. OHH etho want his walls back, he want to see ren the king, because it is so so much to see just ren. because it is hard, because they both want more so bad, but just can't. the final part is something so big i cannot express.
