D.W. has always had issues forming attachments to people. Since she was a child, she looked at things through an overly pragmatic lens and tried to analyze people to best understand them. This most likely stemmed from her mother coming and going and her father’s constant distraction when she was young. She has very few familial connections, and doesn’t let many people past the outside shell that she created. One person who has wormed their way through is D.W.’s fellow clan member, Greta Bow. They connected when Greta wanted to shadow her and she was able to help her work through the trauma she experienced at the hands of hunters. While Greta ended up staying at her current position, D.W. fell in love with her. She knows nothing will come from it, but it keeps her going throughout the day. One unique thing is D.W. ’s ability to view herself, her actions, and her beliefs as tools to help fix what is wrong. She can detach from her emotions and do what is necessary to keep things on the right path.

This detachment doesn’t mean she doesn’t care, however. She cares about ideas and issues a lot, specifically those related to her career. As a Victim Advocate she is able to connect with her clients, both supernatural and human alike. She fights for them and for their safety whether it is from abusive parents or spouses, or just a system that wronged them. She is a driving force to try and end non consensual changes in the Animal Shifter community, and specifically wants to go after the Nimbles and Hyenas. Another goal that she has dedicated her current existence towards is ending the Colt family of hunters. A couple of years ago she set out to seduce one of the brothers in order to gather information. It went further and further, and she has been married to Colin Colt for almost a year. Though she doesn’t know how long it will go on for, she knows it will end with the clan taking the Colts down.

Greta Bow (Beloved): She only truly became acquainted with Greta when she showed interest in the victim advocate branch. When she began opening up to her, D.W. helped her with the trauma from her own capturing. Greta then began shadowing her and they spent nearly every day together for a few months. Slowly, D.W. fell for her very genuine soul. She knows the feelings aren’t reciprocated, but is happy to settle with the fact that she is in her life.

Colin Colt (Husband): D.W. seduced and married Colin to get information on the Colts, and eventually take them down. Now he’s pushing for babies, and she’s running out of ways to say no.

Platonic Connections:

Arthur Milligan (Good Friend): Art is a good friend and the only other person in the family who has a connection with the Colts. His face is known to them as her friend from high school and college, and at times he is the only human shifter she sees for weeks. She always knows that she can count on him when she needs a break from it all.

Churchill Darling (Friend): Church jokingly gave her the idea to make one of the Colts fall for her, after a particularly long ranting session about them. He gave her his full support when she laid it out for him, Sirius, and Vincent, and went toe to toe for it.

Sirius Cobic (Leader): Sirius was the one who finally gave her the go ahead to infiltrate the Colts. With his blessing she has been able to create a massive network of information on the Colts that will lead to their demise.

Vincent Kane (Friend): Vincent does not approve of her mission and was the only force working against her in her quest to start following the Colts. It has made their friendship frosty at times, though they do get along.

Douglas Gish (Friend): Douglas is a good person to go to when she needs to decompress. He’s funny and quick witted, though not annoyingly so. He has a good mind and is great at conversation.

Lillian Pickford (Friend and Coworker): Lillian and D.W. often work together when Lillian is trying to gain justice for her victims. They get along well and share a passion for their work. D.W. sees Lillian’s insecurity and is working out a way to help with her confidence.

Emmanuel Flores (Former Potential Client): Emmanuel was a perfect example of how Percy paid someone off after he ruined their life, however he didn’t want to bring anything forward, or be used as an example against the Nimbles.

Jesse Wicker (Client): Jesse’s parents were killed a few weeks ago, in what looks to be an attack by a hyena. D.W. has been helping to organize the funeral and get Jesse on his feet. He’s turning 18 in a month, and won’t have the support of the system afterwards.

Caroline Hess (Client): She has been helping Caroline process the paperwork for the divorce from her abusive ex-husband. He has continued to try and intimidate Caroline, despite numerous restraint orders. If he threatens her anymore, D.W. may take care of him, and Caroline won’t have to finish the filing.

Hostile Connections:

Elle Colt (Target): Elle, like many of the Colts, to a liking to D.W. quickly. They appeared to be the same age, had the same interests, and could even share clothes. Elle, along with Blaine and Colin, was her primary target in order to be accepted by the Colt family.

Blaine Colt: (Target): Blaine was nearly as easy to win over as his brother, and was actually her initial target before D.W knew he was married. He has a shrewdness about him, however, that made her back off in the end. They’ll often go shooting together when she has to spend time with him. Lately, D.W has been unsure about their connection thanks to Imani whispering in his ear.

Alice Colt: (Target): Alice has a deep distrust of D.W. that stems all the way back to before the wedding when she saw her slipping her ring on and off before coming “home”. She suspects that Alice brought it up to Colin, but it didn’t take much for her to gaslight the younger woman. She knows that the cruelty streak runs deep with Alice and can’t wait to get rid of her.

Hailey Colt (Target): If D.W. had to pick a Colt that she could tolerate the most it would most likely be Hailey. She minds her business and she doesn’t share any overly obnoxious opinions when they go on walks. D.W. can see how depressed she is, and wonders how no one else sees it. Then she remembers that she has a job, and not to get emotionally involved.

Casper Colt (Target): D.W. finds Casper the most arrogant of the Colts, simply due to the fact he has done nothing, yet walks around like royalty. She knows Blaine and Colin are getting sick of the attitude as well, and is looking forward to seeing him get torn down.

Iris Colt (Target): D.W. thinks it’s a bit middle ages to arrange a marriage for power consolidation, but it’s not really her place to say. She has some sympathy for Iris, and wonders what she might have been if not a hunter.

Imani Colt (Dislike): Imani is going to blow D.W cover and she has no idea how to get the former Anderson hunter off of her back. D.W did not have the correct intelligence on Blaine and Imani’s relationship and it has thrown a wrench in her plans. She is unsure whether to start playing it extra nice or go on the defensive.

Percy McCormick (Dislikes): Percy McCormick doesn’t care about the people he unleashes on Chicago or the trauma that he leaves behind when he allows reckless and dangerous changes. A significant number of supernaturals who come to her are Nimbles, looking for any kind of answer.

Juliette Willott (Dislikes): D.W. is incredibly suspicious of Juliette. She doesn’t like the radio silence that much of the hyenas became once she took over, and she knows she is behind the uptick in random changes.

Jin Asato (Former Contact): Jin was her primary contact within the Hyenas before Juliette took over. She thought she was making headway with convincing him to stop the neverending non consensual changes, but all communication ceased once Juliette came to town. Now, Jin won’t answer her emails or calls.

Pets:

Ruger (Colin’s Dog): Ruger, like all domesticated animals with Human Shifters, hates her. He seems to be the only one who has figured her out. She’s considered letting him loose, or killing him herself, but he won’t let her get within 10 feet of him.

This character development in clarke is something else like remember when she talked about the grounders wanting finn out in the open and not in private causing a huge public uproar. Look at her now talking in private with Lexa about the missile. Phenomenal character growth if you ask me.

Auston Matthews- New Leaf- Chapter Two

“Emily!” I looked at the door and see Jack and Sam coming out.

“Hey, guys.” I smile and they pulled me into a group hug. “Guys you're squishing me.” I try and get a breath acting like a couldn't breath. They laugh and let go.

“How was your flight?” Jack asked walking over to the door they come out of.

“It was good better than the flight on the way there. Didn't have a couple next to me fighting.” They laugh. “How has everything been here?”

“You already know the answer to that Em. There hasn't gone a day where we haven't talked but everything has been good. Hoping to win tonights game.” Sam said.

“I’m hoping you guys win as well. Pat and Jonathan think they are going to kick your ass. Don't worry I put them in their place.”

“Of course you did.” Jack stopped walking and turned to me he was standing in front and Sam went to stand next to him.

“What are you guys doing?”

“We have a surprise for you,” Jack said with that evil smile of his.

“I told you both that I just wanted to hang out before the game tonight what did you do?” I asked and they turned around and began walking. I followed closely behind them. Once they went into a room I stopped. I don't know what is behind that door. I don’t know who is behind that door. Sam came back out and looked at me confused.

“Is everything okay?” He asked me. I leaned my back against the wall and slide down.

“Who is behind that door, Sam?”

“I am not supposed to tell you.” He walked on the other side of me and sat next to me. “But its just Erin and Amanda they didn't want to wait to see you till the second period. They wanted to surprise you.” I looked at the wall across from us and didn't look anywhere else but that wall.

“I know you just got back from London but if you don't want to stay for the game if it's too much you don't have to stay Jack and I will understand Patrick and Jonathan will understand as well. We have another game in two days against the Leafs that you can go to. Then you can fly out to see the Hawks play you don't have to do this today.”

“I have been looking forward to seeing you all play again. The reason I picked today to come home was that you all were playing together in Buffalo so I could see you all at the same time and that I would be home. I didn't want to miss this.”

“No one will get mad at you Em if you miss this game. There are plenty of games for you to see.” I finally looked away from the wall and looked at Sam.

“Samson thank you.”

“For what telling you that you could miss this game and no one will be mad?”

“No for being there when I needed a friend all four of you were there for me and none of you left me when I needed you. Well I mean you and Jack left but-“ He stopped me.

“Hey that wasn't our fault we had away games. If it was our choice then we both would have stayed with you.” I laughed

“I missed that laugh.” I looked up and saw Jack standing there.

“How long have you been there?”

“Long enough.” Jack walk to the other side of me and sat down. Then someone else came out of the room more like two people came out.

“You don't have to thank any of us.”

“Erin is right you should have gone through any of that .” Erin and Amanda sat down in front of us.

“I love you all so much but I am going to thank you and you are just going to have to take it because I might still be with him if it was for you guys.” Amanda stood up and put her hand out for me to take which I did and she pulled me into a hug.

“Sam ruined our surprise but I am glad your back we have missed you.”

“You would have done the same thing if you were in my spot.” Sam got up as well as Erin and Jack. Now it's just a big group hug.

“Eichel! Reinhart! Where have you been? We have been looking for you!” We all look at Dan walking over to us.

“Sorry, we were just about to go to the locker room,” Jack said and he and Sam look at us the three of us. “We will see you after the game?” we nodded our heads yes. Jack game Erin a kiss on the cheek and walked toward the locker room Sam did the same to Amanda and followed Jack.

“We will see you after the first period?” Erin asked while we walked out of the tunnels.

“Yeah I have to find my parents haven't seen them yet and they have my jersey.”

“Kane’s jersey?” Amanda asked.

“Yep, but cheering for our Sabres.” They laugh and we part ways.

My dad wasn't happy that I left for six months and went to London. He thought I should stay with them for a while but they live here in Buffalo. I couldn’t stay here I had to get away. Which meant going to London. I have been meaning to go visit Carly over there but never had the time. More like Max didn't want me to go.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared to see my dad. He would rarely talk to me through FaceTime when I was on there with mom. He would ask how I was and walked away. To be honest I don't even know if mom told him I was coming. Last time I asked her she said that she hasn't told him. She said that he didn't like talking about me. It looks like I’m not the only one getting a surprise today.

I went up to were mom and dad normally sit and found them both already sitting there looking out on the ice and talking to each other. Mostly dad talking about the game. Before the games start dad and I would talk about what to expect and what not to expect. If we were watching Pat we would talk about how good he was doing. I walked down the stairs took a deep breath and stood right next to them.

“Hey mom, dad.” Mom turned around and saw me there and stood up and gave me a hug. I looked at dad and there he was with a shocked look on his face.

“I have missed you so much, sweetie,” Mom whispered in my ear.

“Missed you to mom,” I whispered back. I let go and looked at dad who was now standing.

“My sweet sweet girl.” I walked over and hugged me tightly. I could have sworn I saw tears forming in his eyes. He let go looked at me and then looked at mom. “Is this why you brought that extra jersey?” Mom nodded her head and took out the jersey and gave it to me to put on which I did. “When did you get in?”

“Today actually. Pat and Jonathan picked me up took me here and I was with Jack, Sam, Erin, and Amanda till I came here.”

“Just seeing everyone in one day I see.” Dad laughed

“You all were in the same place on the same day I planned it out that way. I could come home not seeing someone without not see someone else.”

“I am happy your back sweetheart. Wait till your sisters get here” Dad said

“Wait they are all here?” I asked looking at mom. She told me only Erica was able to come.

“I told Jessica and Jacqueline that they had to come. They aren't happy about it but once they get here they will be glad they did.” Mom looked proud of what she did get all her kids under the same roof which happen only on holidays now.

I sat down in between mom and dad waiting for all three of my sister to show up and for the game to start.

“Mom this better be a good game because you had us come-“ Jessica stopped when she saw me I looked at her waiting for her to say something but she wasn't the one to stay anything Jacqueline was the first to speak.

“Emily your back! When did you get in? Why didn't you tell us?” I got up so I could give her a hug.

“I got in today.”

“Let me guess Pat picked you up? Along with Jonathan?” Erica said I looked at her confused. How did she know that? “Pat and Jonathan feel asleep at my place last night and when they woke up they were freaking out about how they were going to be late and I guess Pat messed up and said something about the airport traffic to Jonathan. I didn't put two and two together till now.”

“Pat always messes up.” I finally give Erica and Jessica a hug.

Once we sat down the lights went out and the game was about to start.

With the game at 2-1 in favor of the Sabres after the first period. I said goodbye to my parents and sisters told them we will get together soon and walked to where Erin and Amanda were sitting. Erin was talking about the goal Jack made which was a pretty amazing goal I have to say and with an asset by Sam is was going good so far. Pat had a goal but it ended up being ruled as a no goal. I wasn't happy about that.

“So Jack and Sam want us to come with them to lunch tomorrow and are probably going to make you come with us,” Amanda said.

“Why? I was planning on sleeping. I have been used to London time and now I am five hours behind I need sleep.”

“The Leafs are coming in later tonight and some of them want to grab lunch.”

“Well I am not going and they can’t make me.”

“Remember the last time you didn't want to do something the guys wanted you to do.” I laughed

“If they don't I will drag your pretty ass out of bed and make you go. Jack said Auston is going to be there.” She nudged my arm trying to hint at something. I look at her and she has the same evil smile as her boyfriend does unbelievable.

“Oh no don't you dare try and set me up with a Leafs player. I am already in between two different teams I can’t add another to the mix.”

“It's not just any Leafs player through its Auston Matthews,” Amanda said but whispered his name.

I have heard many things about this Auston guy. It's his rookie season his first NHL game he scored four goals which are very impressive. I also heard that people are saying he is a lot better than Jack which I can't say anything about that because I have never seen the guy play before not even in highlights. I have only read a few things about him.

Right now I don't know if I am even ready for a relationship with anyone. I don't even know when I will be ready. I just got back I haven't even been home yet and they are talking about getting me together with someone. I haven't even faced Max. I have been planning on visiting him in jail because he keeps sending me letters and I have to face him sooner or later. I can't do any this right now.

I look up at the clock to see how much more time is left in the period and it says ten minutes. I look back at the ice and see Pat there with his back to me he's on the line with Jonathan who is facing off with Jack and Sam is out there as well. Sam said they will all understand if I left. I took a deep breath stood up and walked up the stair. I heard Amanda and Erin calling out for me and but I didn't stop I kept walking and out of the Area calling for a cab home.

Gray is kinda shit but they play Huddersfield this double so I'm just hoping he plays and if he plays he should get something. Not overthinking it, really, and just getting Deeney's straight swap replacement. We'll see how it goes.

Eddy and Foster. Obviously the City fixtures aren't "great" but they are still City and can clean anyone. Seems fine. If Foster can not make ridiculous howlers for their next two games I would be greatly appreciative to the man. Couple of reasonable fixtures, although I don't really expect a clean against Soton he's gotta get that one at Huddy to give me a nice return this DGW. Feels like a good guy to have.

I'm sticking with Kola although I, as usual, have no idea what Emery is doing / thinking. Really not much to go off here and just hoping he starts the home game. Whatever.

Last guy is Duffman. Meh. Glad I only have 1 BHA player instead of 3 like everyone else and their dog. I wouldn't be stunned if they cleaned Wolves since Wolves suck and fuck Wolves so who knows. Stranger things have happened. At least he's got some goal threat and stuff.

MID:

Eriksen & Son (mci, BHA)

Eriksen and Suon are looking pretty okay for the double. Suon starting both seems a lot more likely since he's banned for their UCL game so that's a nice thing. Eriksen will prob do fuck all against City like normal but the BHA game is a good one for him against the bus.

Sterling (TOT, mun)

Raz is in and looking primed to fuck. He's in great form and with them out of UCL should not be rested for any of their remaining league games. "should"...lol. Pep will prob drop him tomorrow.

Doucouré (hud, SOU)

Doucoure rogue guy in there who I am kinda very excited for in the double. I think both games are fruitful for him as they get Huddy who are Huddy and then have Soton at home where I feel like he'll have some ability to get in there. Love him.

Redmond (new, wat)

Last and certainly not least is Redderz the god and legend. Couple tricky away ties but he's off a brace and Soton are looking good these days. Hopefully he keeps it up and gets me some more points.

Finally, new guy Gray is in for their couple of plum ties. Don't really rate him and not really sure if he'll start / what he'll do / what he's up to / what he's about but I'm going to find out.

Really rough one this GW and really don't have a huge conviction on anyone. When that is the case, I am happy to default onto Kun. He's good and City are good. Dunno if Jesus will get a game...but I also don't know if Raz will play both so...ya. Hoping that VAR gets City a lot of pens this GW. That's how it works, right? I think Raz is a fine cap option as well but I'm going to just back Kunnyboy to bang in the run in.

Starting to get a little worried about Matip’s place now that Joemez actually played some real minutes, that said, I don’t think he deserves to be fucked off to hell because Liverpool have been beyond fantastic with Matip in the side and he’s mostly playing well so I think you just keep it going here. Also Cardiff will be super up for it and physical and Matip is terrific in the air while Joemez off of long-term mega-injury for away Cardiff who have a real chance of avoiding relegation, is that really the type of lion’s den you want to throw him into? Surely not.. right?

Vertonghen (mci, BHA)

Away City is a fuck but home Brighton should be a straight forward clean for Spurs. Brighton are terrible.

I got tagged twice! Here’s @ravingliberal‘s first, because I got hers first.

RULES: tell your followers 11 random facts about yourself and tag 11 people. tag backs are allowed but if you do get tagged again you must not repeat any of the facts you mentioned in the previous round. the facts can be absolutely anything, whatever comes to mind first.

#1: I just got a banana Starburst that was clearly labeled as a Lemon Starburst, and feel vaguely cheated.

#2: The day Terry Pratchett died, my dad was out on a run. I’d managed to stop crying by the time he came back, but only just. I told him what had happened and felt my face get a little shaky again. He looked at me for a minute, then said “you wanna watch a movie or something after I shower?”. I nodded and before he went to shower, he disappeared for a second, and returned with an oatmeal cookie. “Sadness cookie,” he said sagely, and gave it to me. I don’t remember what we watched, but that’s the most unimportant part of the story.

#3: I can sing all of “Bruce’s Philosopher Song” by the Monty Python guys and when I was fourteen, I sang it during a Shakespeare production, I believe The Merchant of Venice, while playing a drunk, because it was the only drinking song I knew and I knew it by heart. I told only my brother I was going to do it, and he was excited to be let in on the secret. I couldn’t hear her because I was doing my best to project my singing because it was an outdoor production, but my mother evidently laughed so hard and so loud that people turned around to stare at her. I was also still full time homeschooled at that point (for another couple of weeks, anyway, before I went to high school), and my mother jokingly said that the song was our philosophy education for the year.

#4: I have absolutely abysmal eating habits, which is mostly due to the fact that I eat a lot of food as kind of a coping mechanism. I’m trying to get the upper hand here, but it’s really fucking hard.

#5: These days I refer to all male authority figures as “sir” and all female authority figures “ma’am”, which is less me being obsessively polite and more a side effect of going to a military college, even as a civilian.

#6: I love weird socks. Which I always have, to a certain extent. But @i-am-the-knight-who-says-ni got me ones that say “I gave a fuck, once” and that kicked off my real delight in them. Now I have a wide array, including a LOT from Blue Q like “I have mood swings” and “It’s okay, I hate everyone too”, some that look like famous paintings, and a personal favorite that my mom brought me back from Austin, which are American flag socks with Bill Murray’s face all over them.

#7: I am probably the only person on Earth who has a really hard time bingewatching. I’ll marathon half-hour shows, for sure, but those are usually either in the background while I do something else, or episodes I’ve seen before. Bingewatching new, hour+ content is near impossible for me, mostly happening in spurts. The closest I think I’ve come most recently was when I started Hannibal, and watched six episodes in one day. Before that, I watched the second half of the first season of The X-Files and the first couple episodes of the second season in a day. I burnt myself out on both those shows just from those viewings and it took forever to take them up again. Bingewatching, man. An unattainable constant.

#8: I am a really fast and capable reader, and I started reading Shakespeare when I was nine or ten, starting with abridged children’s versions and moving quickly to the plays themselves. I used to take out books in the tens from the library, read them all, and return them the next week. When I was reading the American Girl books around seven, we had an AG board game that I played with my mother. It had a trivia section and I went for those cards every time, and Mom, who’d been under the impression that I wasn’t really reading the books, just sort of flipping the pages like little kids do sometimes, proceeded to be really freaked out when I nailed almost every single question. I’m not trying to brag or boast here. I’m trying to set up some backstory for you so you understand what I’m telling you that, when none of these things tripped me up, when I was a quite confident and competent reader, I was ground to a halt by The Fellowship of the Ring. I tried reading it when I was ten or eleven, and it took me three years. Now that’ll knock you down a peg.

#9: Orson Welles in his prime, Citizen Kane days could get it. Seriously, all he would have to have done was ask me and I would be like “yup, you bet”.

#10: In relation to the LOTR thing, when I was a kid I had a book called The Languages of Middle-Earth (I had seen the movies at this point even though I hadn’t read the books), which had an Elvish-English dictionary. I decided to write poetry in Elvish. Not only was it abysmal poetry, I mixed the shit out of Sindarin and Quenya, so it just read like a fucking mess.

#11: I refuse to wear any shirt that has curse words on it in public, because in public there are sometimes children and I’m not gonna have curse words around children, come the fuck on now.

Ramblings: Updates on Klefbom, White, Karlsson; Koskinen Extended; Hronek – January 22

The Carolina Hurricanes have started to lock up their core and the next addition to the list is Teuvo Teravainen. He signed a five-year deal with an average annual value of $5.4-million and it doesn’t appear to include movement/trade protections.

Teravainen has really flourished in Carolina to the tune of 145 points in 211 games, or a 56-point pace per 82 games. It helps playing alongside Sebastian Aho, but Turbo has really found his game with the Hurricanes.

Just as an aside to the contract, I do wonder where Teravainen fits in long term. It seems like the team will move forward with Teravainen, Nino Niederreiter, Andrei Svechnikov, and Micheal Ferland (I’m assuming they sign him) in their top-6. But this precludes re-signing Justin Williams after the season, or possibly bringing in another top winger in free agency this summer (there are a lot of them). And there are always the swirling ‘defenceman for a scoring winger’ rumours surrounding the ‘Canes every year.

I say all this because there’s good evidence that Teravainen is a better defensive forward than he is an offensive one. It’s not to say he’s devoid of offensive talent; I mentioned above he’s played as a 55-plus-point guy since getting to Carolina. But maybe he slides down to the third line once this team is really loaded, filling in the role currently occupied by Williams? A reliable two-way forward who they can use all over the lineup, including special teams. It’s to say that I’m not entirely convinced he’ll be the long-term winger for Aho.

But that’s a year or two down the road. In all, it’s a good contract for the team and gives Teravainen security, and the chance for another multi-year contract when this new one runs out.

Just a fun Teravainen fact: since the start of the 2016-17 season, he has the same assists/60 minutes at 5v4 as Patrick Kane.

It appears Erik Karlsson will not return for the Sharks until after the All-Star Game, which would also include him not playing in the midseason classic itself. It makes sense from San Jose’s perspective; this is a true Cup contender and there is a pretty big gap between the Big Three in the Pacific and the rest of the division. They need him healthy in April, not January.

If you haven’t picked up your copy of the 2019 Dobber Hockey Midseason Fantasy Guide from our Dobber Shop, there’s no time like the present! We only have a couple days of hockey before the break, and that’s the best time to digest all the information necessary to make a run for a league title this year, or set your keeper/dynasty teams up for the future.

It looks like Oscar Klefbom will return for the Oilers after the All-Star break. This is huge for the Oilers if they truly want to make a run for the playoffs as he’s easily their best defenceman and the team has looked near-dead since his injury. Good news, fantasy owners!

Speaking of the Oilers, they have put both Ty Rattie and Ryan Spooner on waivers. I’ll admit, I got sucked into Rattie’s performance alongside Connor McDavid at the end of last year and in the preseason. I didn’t end up drafting him anywhere, but I have used him a lot in DFS. It, uh, hasn’t gone well. Maybe these guys can catch on elsewhere.

Thus concludes the Jordan Eberle trade tree. Outcome: not great!

The last bit on the Oilers: they signed goaltender Mikko Koskinen for three more years with an AAV of $4.5-million. That seems like a pretty big gamble on a 30-year old goalie (31 next season) with 31 career NHL games. Not to mention the team needs to completely overhaul their winger depth from top to bottom, needs another top-4 defenceman, and already has $73-million committed to next season. This should be a team looking to spend as little as possible in goal to try and upgrade elsewhere and this… this is not it.

The Blue Jackets have added Martin St. Louis as a special teams consultant. Presumably, this means he’s helping the team with their power play. As Aaron Portzline noted, the Columbus power play has been absolutely abysmal for two years, ranking last in the league since January of 2017. Special teams aren’t everything, but teams that score on fewer than 1 in 6 power play opportunities are going to struggle to win games, especially at a rate of a Cup contender.

It’ll be interesting to see for just how long this configuration lasts. It seems like breaking up the second line, which has been one of the best in hockey for a few years now, isn’t a long-term move, more something to get some balance right now.

The Leafs haven’t looked like themselves for a little while now, though it seems much of the issue is a shooting percentage drop on the power play and the injury to Frederik Andersen. Like the Flames, we’ll see how long this actually lasts. I’m skeptical it’ll be for very long.

On the Ottawa front, Sens forward Colin White says he should be back in the Ottawa lineup after the All-Star Game. He had been playing very well on a line with Brady Tkachuk and Mark Stone. I’d like to see him get another chance there.

Drew Doughty scored in Monday afternoon’s 4-3 win over St. Louis, his fifth goal of the season. It’s been a tough season for almost every Los Angeles Kings player, but Doughty is averaging over two hits a game for the first time in years and is on pace for 46 points. Other areas have sagged (plus/minus and shots, notably), but there’s still been enough here to maintain solid fantasy relevance. That feels like an amazing statement given Doughty’s fantasy performances in his career, but it’s more a testament to the team than to himself as a player.

The Nashville Predators got scoring from the blue line in the form of Roman Josi’s eighth goal and Ryan Ellis’s fifth en route to a 4-1 win over Colorado. That makes 36 points for Josi, who is now on pace for 58 on the year. He’s doing that despite having just nine PPPs. It’d be fun to see what he could do in a season with heavy minutes on a top-tier PP unit.

Pekka Rinne stopped 35 of 36 shots in the victory for Nashville.

Both Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch scored in Las Vegas’s 4-2 loss to Minnesota on Monday. Despite the team loss, the second line for Vegas shone once again. This trio has been truly elite in their time together. When Reilly Smith returns, it’s going to be a big decision for the coaching staff as to whether or not they put Pirri on the second or third line. With the way Stastny-Tuch-Pacioretty are rolling, and how good the top line normally is, I don’t know how either of those two trios get split.

Florida received goals from each of Aaron Ekblad, Keith Yandle, and Michael Matheson, and Frank Vatrano had a four-point night as the Panthers toppled the Sharks 6-2. Vatrano now has 21 goals and 34 points in 63 career games with the Panthers. He’s doing that while averaging about 14 minutes a night.

For Ekblad, it was his 10th goal of the season. That gives him double-digit goals in every season of his career so far, and 63 goals overall. The lack of assists are an ongoing concern but the goal scoring is about as consistent as it gets from the blue line.

Aleksander Barkov had three assists, snapping a four-game pointless streak. He’s also just shy of a point per game with 47 in 48.

I wanted to get some input from the Dobber community. I have a home keeper league (10-team, keep 8) where I made a somewhat-blockbuster trade recently. Let me give you the specifics of the league first:

Points league, categories for skaters are: goals, assists, PIMs, plus/minus, SOG, PP points.

The pool of players I’m considering for keepers for next year include: Vladimir Tarasenko, Mark Scheifele, Nathan MacKinnon, Leon Draisaitl, Alexander Radulov, Evgenii Dadonov, Viktor Arvidsson, Brent Burns, Kris Letang, John Gibson, and Thatcher Demko. Remember, it’s only a keep-8, so three players from that list would miss the cut.

We don’t divide forward positions, they’re all listed as ‘forward’ so positions are irrelevant.

There are four people at the top of the league standings clustered very close together, me being one of them, and then there’s a big gap to 5th place. I think I have an edge because of fewer games played than the other three teams. In that sense, yes I’m going for it this year.

Last week, I completed the following trade:

I sent: William Nylander and Nico Hischier

My reasoning was that with the uncertainty around Taylor Hall, I think Zibanejad will out-produce Hischier the rest of the season in our format. Also, I am in the running for a league title without Nylander having done anything basically all year. I wouldn’t be keeping Hischier and it’s doubtful I’d keep Nylander. I won’t keep Zibanejad but as I said I think he’s an upgrade for the next 30 games on Hischier. I will definitely be keeping Svechnikov. He’s a guy I peg to be an absolute superstar in this league in a couple years.

I look at it as an upgrade on one guy for this year, and the other is a lock as a keeper for many seasons to come. What do you guys think?

Last week I took a bit of a dive on Will Butcher to see how he’s performing this season, so far in his career, and what it could mean for the future. In those Ramblings, I also discussed other young defencemen like Thomas Chabot and Henri Jokiharju. There is another young defenceman I want to discuss briefly and that’s Detroit blue liner Filip Hronek.

As I’ve stated before, I’m not a prospects writer. I leave that stuff to the good people over at Dobber Prospects. I mostly form my opinion based on their writing, the writing of some other people around the industry, and my own brief observations. All this is to say that going into the 2018-19 season, I knew who Hronek was but didn’t know much about him. I knew he had a good age-20 season in the AHL, I knew he might push for an end-of-roster spot on the Wings, and that’s about it.

He’s opened a lot of eyes, including both of mine, since.

Hronek has only played 22 games, so it should be said we’re not working with a lot of information. That said, here’s where he ranks in various categories among Red Wings rear guards:

Adjusted 5v5 shot share percentage: 1st

Adjusted 5v5 on-ice shots for: 1st

Individual 5v5 expected goals: T-1st

Penalties drawn per 60 minutes: 1st

That’s, uh, pretty good.

Other metrics aren’t as flattering (he’s about break-even in expected goal share) but for just 22 games on a lottery team, he’s standing out.

It might take a year or two once all those awful contracts on the Red Wings blue line start running out before guys like Hronek and Dennis Cholowski can really take over. With that said, I’ve been impressed with Hronek and look forward to what he can do in the future. He’s had a good start, now it’s about building off that and taking the next step.

The first semi final of a World Cup England have taken part in since 1990, that’s 28 years since even reaching this stage, that also meant I could now remember watching England play in it! We were all dreaming of reaching the final, but we had to try to stay calm and remember this is a very young squad who are still learning and developing. An incredible achievement to reach this stage for a team that were not even expected to do anything remarkable during the World Cup. An issue probably became the big bandwagon that everyone seemed to jump on and then expect too much from them.

We had a truly incredible start with the free kick in the first 5 minutes which was truly fantastic from Kieran Trippier eventually showing just why he was taking a lot of the set pieces! I actually felt worse after we scored in all honesty it made me even more nervous. We played well for the first 30 minutes and Raheem Sterling was terrifying the defence as he ran at them with pace and they had no idea how to deal with him. Unfortunately though England lacked the much-needed composure in and around the box. Harry Kane didn’t seem to have turned up for the game and was very poor from start to finish, having a pretty clear-cut chance to score as well which was wasted.

Pickford has been the brightest star for England during this campaign and it seems as though we eventually have a quality goalkeeper, something we have lacked for many years now. During the game though his defenders were certainly testing his kicking and putting him in some awful situations with the number of back-passes with the Croatian forwards pressing very high. He managed to deal with them, but this was not showing off his incredible distribution.

Croatia were always going to cause the defence problems with Modric in the centre of the park pulling the strings and he never ever panics on the ball. That type of relaxed player is the perfect role model for these young lions and I think they should take into consideration what he does on the ball, would be great to see Dele that relaxed at times. Before Croatia scored the equalizer they were beginning to look dangerous and creating more chances and getting the ball into the box. They actually had a chance they should have scored from right after the goal. But England managed to hold on and make it to extra time.

In extra time they looked tired and Croatia took advantage of that as they continued to plug away and work hard on and off the ball. They just seemed to have a little bit more desire than England. I don’t remember any chances we created in extra time? It was a tough test but a very good learning curve and the best thing is these players will get better and better over the next two and four years heading to the Euros and next World Cup. I cannot wait to see the progressions they make over the next couple of seasons.

Good luck to Croatia in the World Cup final against France. The very first time they have made to the final, the best they have finished was 3rd in 1998.

Apparently this is an alright comedy, so it’s the second-last debut of this season I’m trialling. I probably won’t attend most of my anime club sessions as a result of tackling most of the debuts within my reach, but I never really socialised at my anime club anyway…(?)

Kiniro Memories…Like, a parody of Kiniro Mosaic or Tokimeki Memorial or something?

I don’t see what’s so appealing about her, despite the flowers and such cueing me into how I should see her.

This show has some gorgeous cherry blossom scenes. I pause just to observe the level of detail in each tree.

Wow, I knew Endeavour wasn’t liked, but I didn’t think his sitch was that bad…

The framing choice (white, insular fadeout) was a good one, I think. Shows Deku’s blinkered thinking at a crucial moment like this.

W-Wait. They have a hero called The Fly?! You’re kidding, right? That’s a great name! Creepy, because heck, just seeing screenshots of the Cronenberg movie is enough to make you pee your pants, but…heck yeah! What a name!

The closed shop appears to be called “The Tsuda Shop” or something like it, due to something that’s been written on to the paper screens.

The shop you see Tonbokiri in the doorway of is called the “Murata Shop” (Murata-ya).

Again, foxes are meant to love tofu, but here’s what a pipe fox is.

There’s a sense of foreboding looming over this anime, and it kind of scares me, but it’s par for the course in a show like this.

Mutsu’s eating an onigiri. “Same old, same old” really are the right words to use here.

An ootachi should be significantly weaker in smaller quarters, like a bridge. However, they have longer range, which means that multiple swords in the party this Saniwa has could defeat it. By the by, I consulted the wiki, and it seems we’re going through era 1 (Meiji era), so there shouldn’t be any closed quarter battles here (I think there was one in the first ep of Hanamaru).

I bet Mutsu’s gonna pull out his gun sometime during this battle, eh?…Yep, a few seconds after I predicted that, it came true. Mutsu, you nut. I know this is close to the Meiji restoration if not in the middle of it, but still, don’t go showing off your gun everywhere…

Cue “You shall not pass!” moment from Tonbokiri. (I think I should say “again”, but my memory’s being sketchy right now.) LOL.

Everyone has that one experience as a Touken Ranbu rookie where their tantou has had way too much and dies…it’s always so sad, and often a player’s first death in their party. I know, because my first tantou was a Sayo and of course, he died on me.

I wonder if Kiwame will be shown in this show…hmph.

Wowsers, I held my breath so hard at that point where Yagen seemed like he was going to lose…but hey, what a great debut for Tsurumaru! Unfortunately, I don’t know the relationship between Yagen and Tsurumaru, since I don’t own a Tsuru, but I’ve been trying to get one for the longest time. Update: Oh, that “are you surprised that someone like me came here so suddenly?” is his line when he’s obtained, meaning the saniwa must’ve smithed him and dropped him into the fray.

Saiyuki Blast 3

The concept of a sky burial could probably make an entire anime. I should keep better notes on this stuff. Plus, birbs. Even if they’re vultures, they’re cute!

I think the thing that makes Saiyuki special, despite it being a reboot of an old show, is that it’s able to convey deep themes without ruining the mood. I think that’s missing from a lot of modern anime, especially some of the more apparent commercials.

Mmhmm. I like me some dudes in tight shirts like Sanzo’s. Azrael from Ro.Te.O is designed the same way, which is one reason why I love him so much.

Well, that was unexpected. I thought Ayanokouji was going to be a blushing wreck, but he’s less harem protag and more Houtarou Oreki (Hyouka).

Well, I can’t see how you’d have bad grades if you got into an advanced “nurturing school”, so I get Horikita’s point, but I can see how people can fail with the S-System. Ayanokouji and Horikita are basically Misora and Kei from Sakurada Reset though, and that’s bad news for this show…I might need to put Youkai Apato and 7O3X back in the places they used to be in.

I think this show is focussing on Kushida fanservice too much, too early into the game. Fanservice shouldn’t be this early into a series unless the series is fanservice from start to finish (e.g. ecchi).

Best moment of this entire show was Horikita shutting down Ayanokouji, LOL. See? I work a lot better without fanservice in my commentaries.

Ah! A tiger mum, but in the form of an older brother? I see, I see *nods*.

Actually, I now think Ayanokouji’s martial arts skills passed off as “piano and calligraphy” is the best moment.

Hmph. I never thought that Horikita’s inability to get along with others was what got her into Class D. Come to think of it, Ayanokouji is probably there because he rigged the scores and isn’t very sociable either…

It’s interesting that they list the points next to the cast credits. I was losing interest in this show, but the small things are what make me sit up and pay attention!

Reflection 1

I’ve been waiting for this all season now, so here it is!

The first thing that hit me about this show was the colour palette. It’s like I’m watching a moving painting. Or a moving comic book, which I think was the point.

*sighs, somewhat happily(…?)* You know it’s America when the skyscrapers are plastered with the Stars and Stripes…Only American creators can be so proud of America, y’know? People naturally write about what they know, including the patriotism of their homelands.

It seems they even have WcDonald’s in this too, Plus DNN and so on, so forth.

Seeing the skyscrapers light up with relevant effects is cool! Real cool!

Now, if only comics would learn to empower their women better, then I’d be happy…*grumbles into distance*

Also, can someone please stop making all the minority races evil? I think I’ve seen enough evil dudes from that genre, and I haven’t even watched majority of the superhero movies that make the genre what it is.

The background scenery holds on for a little too long, a la Tsukigakirei.

Yeah, I kinda knew 9Nine were involved with the ED, but I never quite guessed it would result in something like this. It’s a fairly typical ED, by anime standards, but still – you can tell it was done well, by a superhero great (better than trying to imitate anime a la Heroman), but it’s not to the same highs as Boku no Hero Academia or Katsugeki can take you. Therefore, Classroom of the Elite will be going on hold while I try to figure out what’s so good about this show.

Lineup Lamentations - GW22 - Happy New Year Edition

Extra long lambs this week because it’s a podless GW and I guess we have many things to say as well as many doubts. Ok here we go :)

TRANSFERS:

OUT: Lukaku GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY TEAM, Paul, and RLC

IN (For -4 points): Quaner, Alli, and Eriksen

The Jesus injury gave me some pause over the plan to go heavy on Spurs attack for the double but in the end decided meh fuck it. I can always go for Aguero after he plays Liverpool if it seems a prime thing to do. A little bit worried about City scoring for fun without Dilva and possibly without Kevin. My team would still have the same problem of being thin if I did go for Aguero in for Lukaku so am gonna restructure and get in there with a big move this week for the double.

Alli was automatic as I've been feeling how he's been looking lately. Eriksen v Son was a close one for me. Son explosive, but has the slight shout of being rested whereas Eriksen seems pretty nailed regardless. Going to go for the minutes play here. Little bit of nostalgia for me as well getting in Alli and Eriksen who were in my GW1 squad and did me well back in the day.

I am a bit worried about Quaner playing this GW but at this point I just want to get the cheapest guy possible and he seems a good first choice lad. Also feel like Huddy aren't the hugest shout to significantly reinforce in the transfer window in attack so hopefully he keeps it up.

I'm keeping Stephens over RLC for the simple reason that RLC could be knocked and miss out. Points this GW feels enough of a reason to keep Stephens over RLC. RLC looks like a really bad FPL pick with Benteke in and him playing in a more reserved role anyway so he's off. Had a couple of tidy returns for me so thanks bro but see you later.

GK:

Adrian goes. Woah. First non-Pope time at GK for me for a long fucking time. Feels weird but also good. DGW keeper always a good guy to have and WBA at home seems as good a clean shout as you can have at this moment. If he gets 8 or so points it would be very nice.

DEF:

Five at the back again for me. Triple Chelsea defense are in as per....Christensen, Azpil, and Moses....which much to my fucking nightmare was only 1 Chelsea defender in GW21 after Conte subbed Moses before 60'.... it’s their first difficult on paper fixture since I've gone with the treble. But, looking at how fucking shit Arsenal have been a clean doesn't seem that insane here.

Phil Jones god and legend of the baps is the most auto thing of life. Preached patience with United defense on the last pod and it came in straight away which was tidy. Everton are the worst attack possible so fuck them. Clean seems likely.

Last guy is the Dunk of Lewishire. Dunk and BHA defense has been a massive unheralded star of the FPL season for me and any of you who have been rotating a BHA defender for some time. They welcome the completely rudderless and injured to fuck Bournemouth side. Get in Lew my absolute son.

MID:

New old friends Alli the middle fingering diving cunt is back in alongside Eriksen. Not sure how long I'll keep, or who will get fucked off first, but Coutinho will be coming in soon for one of these lads. Just bought lottery tickets in Spurs attack and if they are able to put in between 5-7 goals over the two games I'll be absolutely BUOOZZINNNNN and also probably flying. Kill to fly, fly to kill.

Salah looks like he's a little bit dead, but since I bought him at 9m removing him was not even a small consideration. Will just have to rely on the bench if he doesn't go.

Finally, Raz is in and looks a dead cert for a start after not featuring today. Good guy Raz.

No assurances that Spurs will have another DGW and even though there is 1 day off between I am willing to take the risk using the chip this GW. It will allow me to pump the WC the week OF a future DGW instead of the week before which is pretty tidy and honestly I think we overrate the chips a LOT. Sure they are good, but it's not the end all be all of life.

I think illness whatever is dumb and I'm willing to risk that he will make it for both games. He's on fucking form and has just had a nice rest. Harry will Harry, triple cap will triple cap. Let's go Kane drink the nectar of the hat trick gods and keep pumping the goal with your jizzum.

I took a hit, my first hit of the season last week, and it resulted in a net +6 points (including the -4) and a nice green arrow. MY BLOOD IS PUMPING IN THIS MOMENT!!!!!!!

Hit #2 quickly followed today and oo baby I’m feeling nice... My hands were shaking and I had the cold sweats with a beautiful woman in the nude calling out to me... but I slighted her and instead looked up West Ham defensive statistics and compared Arnie to Lanzini for a couple of hours and took the -4; the only thing that’s real...........!!!

Richar my beautiful Brazilian lover our fling has flung. Obrigado for the points mate but you have City and there’s a double gameweek on the cards. Two fixtures, albeit one of them bad vs. Spuds, and I just had to go for Arnie.

Lejeune being dead in what will be the most heavily rotated GW of the season with Salah already ruled out and RLC probably missing out lead me to the second transfer and the -4; I just needed some fucking guys. The upside is there to make up the -4 so I’m tagging along with everybody else and it leaves me with four doublers for the DGW which feels pretty nice. So let us go.

GK:

DDG and United up against the Eve feels like as easy a cleansheet fixture as you can get. Tidy 7 pointer from him last GW and faith restored.

DEF:

Kicking off with Jones up against the same blues of Eve should be easy workings. And you know he’s Phil Jones king of the fucking BONES. 9 pointer what else is new. Good to have you back Philip.

Otamendi straight the fuck in last week with an 8 pointer as he seems to do every week. Took the shittiest ass pen from Milivojevic but I will happily cash those points in. Ota such a great pick - maybe a double up on the way soon with Stoner. Would make a lot of sense to not keep clean here with like a Richarlison brace or something since I transferred him out but ya know, whatever.

Christensen I have starting but who knows if Conte will follow suit. No one knows a thing about Christensen our Chelsea darling boy and if he can find a way into the 11 but we can hope. He’s top quality but blah - it’s concerning - getting another Chelsea defensive asset is at least 1 million away so it’s fucking hard to do. Come on BOD get in there bro. I don’t care it’s Arsecast, you start Chelsea defenders confidently in all fixtures. That’s how they do it.

Lastly new lad Ogbanzo beans should go twice for me. If they clean against West Brom will just be suuuuuch a huge boost of life. If he’s on 2 or less points going into Spurs will feel sad and bad. Meh. Never know. Two bites of the apple get me something Oggy.

MID:

Gonna start with the man the myth the Egyptian fucking god legend Momo Salah. He’s in - of course he’s in would be foolish and disrespectful to bench him - but Klopp has ruled him out for 2ish weeks which is a bummer. So he’ll probably be back for Man. City but we’ll get more autosubs in this week. At the end of Lambs we’ll each post our benches too since it’s going to be rotational hell.

Raz goes straight in Home Watford sexual fixture on the table - didn’t start earlier today so should be in vs. Watford and hauling as usual. Although we’ll see how good/bad City’s attack looks with no Kev and no Daveed (who knows with Daveed).

SUON my Korean boo, my differential treater, been a huge part of my run of greens these Heung-Min points. Got a double fixture on the cards for this GW and I’m just hoping for a combined more then 90 minutes - that’s all we can realistically hope for. And he’s been fantastic. Love him. Should bring in some points.

And Arnie the new guy in the squad. Scary to transfer in a guy who you might want to transfer out very very soon - never feels quite right - but he’s got a double this week and is bang on form starting OOP up top. Lots of shots and big chances and creating shit and touches in the box - TIT ME ARNOLD ARNAUTOVIC!

FWD:

Two guys leading the line in this moment. Alvy Morata the absolute shit-house I don’t know how fucking hungover he must’ve been to not get anything in a 5-0 thrashing but fucking hell. At least I didn’t cap him and avoid that nightmare but I still rate him - but it’s troubling. He might have to go soon. For now I’m just chilling he’s still a good pick and nailed and whatever. Arsecast can’t defend much.

The other guy is Lord Harold of Kane. He’s an absolute must this week - the most must of any guy in any week that I can remember. He was sick a few days ago he’s probably fucking fine. Maybe I’ll be awake until 5-6am and see some sort of additional news but even without the news I think Kane is fine. I expect somewhere around 150 minutes from him this GW and with those fucking fixtures that is pretty insane to think that he will not at least double return... I mean no one is guaranteed points but fucking hell Harold is a great horse to bet on.

BENCH ORDER:

I’m sat on Duffy, Quaner, RLC in this moment.

RLC is a problem and think he should be third on most benches. Duffy good shout at a clean probably coming in for Mo and then Quaner likely to get some minutes even he doesn’t start for a one point cameo if anyone else is rested/rotated in my team. Feels fine.

CAP:

DON’T YOU MEAN..... TRIPLE CAP!?!?!!?!??!?! OOKKKKKKKK LET’S FUCKKKKKKKK IT’S ON BABABYBABBBABABABY!!!!!!!

You already fucking know. Kane the most nailed cap of any life but Triple Cap - I’m going there - fuck it. I’m here I’m there...

Earlier today I really wasn’t feeling good about the triple cap - mostly just apprehension that everything is coming too fast and I’m gonna fuck something up. It’s been a crazy festive period and I’m just like ok, I need to chill, the green arrows are flowing, I just need to fucking chill.... But fuck that shit.

I struggle to come up with any STRONG arguments to NOT triple cap Kane and that’s where we’re left. The only two arguments to not triple cap Kane are:

1. Only one day off between fixtures - can he really play significant minutes in both with one day off.

2. Illness gate / yellow flag / no news.

But those are fucking REEEAAAALLLY weak arguments for me. Illness gate I mean that was a few days ago now. He’s probably fucking fine and not sick anymore like an asshole - and he has Monday off as well to rest up. And speaking of rest up I think he’ll just have to play 70ish in both (maybe more if they’re not winning) and tough it out because he’s not a fucking baby he’s a fucking man. And he’s resting now and he’ll rest after.

The arguments FOR triple capping him in my opinion are pretty overwhelming. Best guy, check, incredible form, check, most important player for the team, check, on pens, check, exceptional fixtures, check... What more do you want? Goal involvement, check, mouth breather, check, childhood GOONA, check, one season wonder, check, golden boot merchant, check.
