Watching “Scooby Doo, Where Are You?” (1969-1970 CBS) + Thoughts
Episode 19: Mystery Mask Mix Up
Is it me or is the typeface for the episode card different?
Why are the subtitles not working?
When Daphne expressed interest in buying the mask that totally has nothing to do with the creepy guys earlier wanting to search for a particular mask: “Looks like Daphne wants to scare off a couple of new boyfriends 😜” You wish that were true Shaggy 😚 sorry its the Shaphne in me.
Store owner I know these goons caught you by surprise and are intimidating, but why would you say to whom you sold the mask to?
Daphne’s pink tights apparently glow in the dark.
It would appear that not only is Velma one of the strongest members of the Scooby Gang, she’s also the most physically imposing by the way everyone hides behind her. No wonder she joins Shaggy in the MultiVersus Game.
“Quick Scooby! Make like a Watchdog!” Well, he’s trying, but not everyone is afraid of a large, 120lb Great Dane.
Apparently Scooby speaks Mandarin or Cantonese,…or whatever the writers though that dialogue sounded remotely like any of the Chinese languages (I cannot speak any of the languages, but I heard “gomen” thrown in by Scooby, which sounds more like the short version of the Japanese “gomennasai”)
Scooby uses Shirt Presser. It’s super effective!
Mr. Fong, the Art Dealer, warns that as long as Daphne keeps the mask, she will be in great danger. A genuine precaution, or a warning by one of the three culprits (the supposed ghost of this mask + his two henchmen)?
Fraphne? (Daphne holding on Fred’s arm in worry; then again, both Freddy and Velma are holding her defensively, so it might just be platonic protectiveness)
Daphne too stubborn to hold onto the mask she bought rather than hand it over to the police or Mr. Fong for safekeeping (tbf it probably costed her a pretty penny.)
“I didn’t know that zombies could ride cars.”
Second time we hear an upbeat song playing for a chase scene. Also, Fred’s a reckless driver.
The girls are holding onto Shaggy for dear life during this car chase. Smart, as he’s probably powerful enough to deflect potential damage from car crashes. (Also mini Shelma since she’s the closest to him)
Mystery Van is able to smash through a hotel entrance, go through lobby, and up the stairs. I call shenanigans on both this logic and that none of the Scooby Gang will be charge for disturbing the peace. (Mini Fraphne again: she’s holding onto him for dear life while she and the rest of the gang almost fall out their seats from Fred’s crazy driving.)
Hilariously, the Zombie henchmen weren’t dumb enough to follow the Mystery Van into the hotel, so patiently waited for it to come out to resume chase.
How did you guys get on top of a building?! Freddy don’t cover your eyes with the rest of the gang YOU’RE THE ONE THAT GOT THEM INTO THIS SITUATION OWN UP TO IT!!!
Parkour: Mystery Van Style.
Oh, so driving into hotels is too extreme for Zombies, but driving onto and off of buildings isn’t?!
Mystery Van drops down and crashes through a glass ceiling without any scratches. SHENANIGANS, I tell ya!!
I forgot to mention this in the previous episode, but the Mystery Van’s interiors changes more than my mental health status on a day to day basis.
Have they not learned last episode’s lesson of locking the doors to the back of their car?? You left your dog behind again!! (See episode
Dear 70s: why are cheesy love songs the go-to-music for chase scenes????
Scooby uses bike; it was ineffective.
Because a big car slipping on a banana peel makes sense.
My sis: why does the weird cartoon logic bug you so much?? ; Me: I DON’T KNOW IT’S NEVER BUGGED ME BEFORE BUT IT DOES NOW!!!
Animation Goof: Scooby’s arm momentarily turns green as he tries to unearth Shaggy from the pile of spilled fishes from a boat Fred crashes into. (Funny Frelma moment as they exchange quips.)
Of course the Zombies immediately capture, bind, and gag Daphne and have her in their car offscreen without anyone noticing.
Secret message that can be read via reflections.
Of course the temple doors they sneak through aren’t locked.
Good news: Fred and Velma immediately find Daphne after splitting up with Shaggy and Scooby. Bad news: t’was a trap.
“What you can’t see can’t hurt ya!” *proceeds to crash as soon as he enters the mysterious room with his eyes covered.*
“I dare you to cross this line! >:D” Bad guy: *crosses line like a boss.* “D:”
Question: is it possible to ride Great Danes like horses in real life?
Shaggy and Scooby disguise themselves and speak like racist caricatures. (Did Scooby technically dress like a racist caricature of a Native American last episode?)
Sitting on a lit fuse of dynamite stops the flame but burns your seat.
Accidental rescue! The Scooby Gang’s reunited.
Pigeon Coop. Daphne has a princess moment and lovingly cuddles a pigeon/dove(?) while Velma reads a suspicious message it had tied to its leg.
First time we hear that Shaggy has a model train set, and Fred wants to use it for a trap. Break your own toys, Freddy!
“I sure hope this crazy contraption works.” “Sure it will!” Me: *checks the score between Fred’s successful vs unsuccessful traps* 😬
Poor Scooby isn’t able to finish setting up his part of the traps in time, so winds up caught in it along with the criminals.
Useful policemen/sheriffs/detectives yet again! And yes, Mr. Fong was one of the bad guys.
Day 19 of no “And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” For being one of the most well known catchphrases of this entire franchise, it surprisingly took a while for it to actually be a thing. *sees there are only 6 episodes left this season.* 😐

@spookyagentfmulder / continued.
yeah. that's about the reaction he was expecting.
the barked repetition, though, has whatever sheepish, half-arsed apology he'd been ready to offer sliding right off the tip of his tongue with all the graceless finality of a bouquet dumped in the bin. he pauses with one hand perched on the back of the chair, shooting a flat look of warning across the desk — you don't give me orders writ in bold blue typeface — before doing what he politely chooses to think was requested, ankle crossed over knee with pointed nonchalance.
hypnotizing the victim was stupid. it was ill-advised, reckless, and downright cold, and the least mulder deserves from him is some sort of acknowledgment for it. but fucked if constantine's going to take an unconditional bollocking just because mulder needs to fill out the federal fucking chip on his shoulder.
he waits out the build-up of steam in perfect silence, eyes narrowed and watchful within a mask of polite indifference. sure, it stings: trust and faith in the past tense, it always stings, and if they were having this lovely little chat at a reasonable volume, not as some ultimatum-riddled power play, he might even show it. they're not. he won't. and mulder wants to get pissy with constantine, not john, so that's exactly who he's going to get.
Tumblr media
' . . . got that all out've yer system? ' his voice stays quiet and even, a scathing sliver of ice that refuses to melt under the heat of mulder's tirade. ' feelin' good and proper righteous yet? fuck me, with a monologue like that you could've gone onstage, 'stead of paper-pushin' in the FBI's basement. '
it's low, and he knows it. no taking it back, though. legs uncross as he leans forward in his seat, forearms braced against his knees and an edge creeping along the margins of his tone, whittling the ends of his words down crisp and curt. ' so let's straighten out the score here, agent mulder, ey? i never asked you t'cover my arse. you could sell me up the river to that twat boss of yours any bloody time you'd like, and i could figure me own way out just as easily; the reason you don't is 'cos you know i get results. the results that you want, free of bureaucratic red tape bollocks. '
he pauses for breath, and in the beat of silence, regret seeps into the frown lines of his face, bruising it as dark and deep as frostbite. then the mask slips back in place, over a shrug that's too abrupt to be the careless dismissal it's trying for.
' by my accounting, that cost you're so keen on billing me for? it'll be a whole bloody lot less than otherwise, since i went ahead an' bought you a little genuine deniability 'stead of just making you lie. reads like a mistake rather than a choice, dunnit? you don't have to like that i did it. you can g'wed and keep bangin' around over it like king fucking kong all you fancy. but you know we weren't gonna find the truth any other way. that's how we work together, and don't pretend it en't what you signed up for: you do what you can, and i do what you can't. f'you only like to save people when it's risk-fucking-free, then that's your problem, not mine. '

Amazing Tips For Effective Logo Design
Tumblr media
Instead of settling for an ordinary logo design, you should consider something that is remarkably distinct. Simple yet amazing logos pervade the business world and consistently end up being the most enduring logo designs. A logo is the thing that distinguishes a brand from its rivals, so it's important that the corporate image stands apart from the rest. A well made logo is setting your company apart from the crowd. In any case, an ineffectively designed logo will neglect to impart the desired business message and can actually damage your corporate image. Ensure that your logo is perfectly designed for speaking on behalf of your business. The colors and images utilized in your logo ought to line up with the corporate image you you wish to convey. It is the point at which a logo lines up with your business image that it will make a brand recognizable for your organization Logo Color When considering the brand's image, you need to consider each part of the picture. Brilliant and striking hues may catch somebody's eye, yet could likewise appear to be reckless; quieted tones imply advancement, however could be easily ignored. Each color has alternate ramifications and can add subtle implications to your message. One of the most significant issues for logo design is the color palette. Remember that each color summons a feeling, which turns into its message for it's viewers.
Tumblr media
Logo Negative Space Consider using the negative space in a logo in some shrewd way. An excellent example of this technique is the FedEx logo with its concealed arrow. Try not to see it yet? Continue looking, it's there. That is the thing that I love about this logo, the utilization of negative space is so unpretentious. The picture uses negative space to make an arrow which suggests speed, accuracy and bearing. Logo Meaning It's extraordinary when you as a creator can show a customer how much thought went into the logo that you present before them. Each great logo has an implied story behind it. Well designed logos are loaded with significance, both clear and implied. Brand And Your Logo A logo is a picture, but it's also a prologue to a brand. The logo must reach a particular audience which is the objective market and target clients. Before you set out to plan your logo, ensure that you have a good understanding of the brand. Along these lines, record what your business, image, and market are about. Typefaces And Your Logo Pick fonts carefully. Many planners simply don't focus on the choice of typefaces and picked them haphazardly. The truth of the matter is that typefaces say a lot about the character of a brand. Logo Simplicity A simple high-impact design is a memorable design.Along these lines, the simplicity of a logo goes far in making a brand memorable as viewers can remember the company and its business without any problem. Mock Up Ideas for Concept
After researching Spray Paint culture, doodle art and taking into account the target audience I want to advertise for, I have created 3 mock-up designs for how my final outcome could look. They have been produced in various methods, as I wanted to see how many ways I could produce the advert to expand my skill set.
First Image:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This piece was made using spray paint and Sharpies for the base layer, however, I then decided to work onto the piece using pre-made text in Photoshop by taping it onto the base. I feel this is particularly effective as it gives the piece a bespoke and handmade look; contemporary works I’ve researched are often trying to make visual reference to handmade artworks and designs, therefore I feel this matches that aesthetic (see research post “Contemporary Works”). I then took logos of venues and places in Scunthorpe and stuck them down in the same fashion, and added anecdotes and note paper to really chime in that handmade look. However, the piece felt rather dull and lifeless in person, therefore I took photos of the piece, and added high pass filters in Photoshop to bring out the highlights and add saturation. This made the piece look more vibrant and exciting, making it more suitable for my target audience. From this, I wanted the piece to have a more personal and “lived in” feel, therefore I added a Polaroid photo of Arcade Fire from the mentioned gig, and the Pin was a stock image to add to the cobbled-together look.
However, I feel that specific information about what there is to do in Scunthorpe is missing; all the viewer really learns from this is that occasionally big names play gigs there and that there is “music, movies and magic”. Therefore, I have learned from this to influence my next mock-up.
Tumblr media
The idea behind this was to produce this advert purely using the Sharpie/Doodle art aesthetic, however, in practise, using Sharpies to produce type by hand was problematic and really did not look professional, therefore I incorporated printed type and shape into this piece. However, I wanted to retain the handmade and scribbled look, therefore I wrote notes about the area like as if the poster was a plan of what I could do on a day out in Scunthorpe. I feel this aspect worked particularly well as it has that youthful, reckless look to the lettering but also looks trendy. The piece went under many iterations to begin with; originally, there was a pair of theatre masks behind the word “Culture”, however this looked rather dull and “desktop-published”, and taking in feedback from other students, I felt it was necessary to replace that with something more interesting and realistic, therefore I placed a cassette in the composition to add to the semantics of culture.
Tumblr media
From this, a third mock-idea came in the fashion of purely using the note-form, Sharpie aesthetic.
Tumblr media
This was made in Photoshop with no real elements. The typeface is “Teabeer”, which is designed to replicate a hand-drawn, scribble style handwriting. I feel from a concept perspective of using this type-style to present the attractions had potential to look really interesting and quite personal; like as if someone had made a list of where-to-go with little anecdotes and notes about what they enjoyed. However, in practise, the piece looks too artificial; the typeface feels a lot like Comic Sans, which is not the type of thing I should be hoping to achieve when it comes to professional advertising. I feel this concept would have had to have been made in physical media in order for it to have a true bespoke feel that I was hoping for.
