And we're back with another follower event, having reached the 400 milestone a while back now! As per usual, I'll include the rules of the event before introducing it properly!

This is probably more of an indicator of how close each Ball's matches were and how much they may have swept... or not! But still, it's surprising that none of the top three in the competition made it to the top three of this list! I think it's fair to say that many of these Balls are very popular, and any tournament to determine the favourite would have been close.

If you like charts, here's what each Ball's total votes compared to the total tournament votes looks like:

To wrap up, let's look at some individual match stats.

The most voted on match was Round 1, Match 3- Luxury Ball vs Heal Ball. It had 496 votes, and showed that the Luxury Ball was popular even from the start! This is closely followed by the Final Match with 490 votes, Luxury Ball vs Moon Ball. That means for the third time in a row, the Finals is the second most popular match- what a coincidence!

The least voted on match was Round 1, Match 11- Nest Ball vs Repeat Ball, at only 304 votes. The second least popular was Round 2, Match 7- Jet Ball vs Dive Ball with 4 more votes at 308.

The closest match this time round was Round 1, Match 2- Lure Ball vs Origin Ball. It had a margin of only 2.4%, or 8 votes! Congratulations to the Origin Ball for that one!

Let's cap off with the biggest sweep, a title that in previous tournaments went to Water Type and Grusha. In this tournament, the biggest sweep goes to... Round 1, Match 1! The match of Quick Ball vs Gigaton Ball ended in a huge 55.4% win margin, or 193 votes. The show started with a bang it seems! Shout out to the Love Ball, Dive Ball, and Moon Ball for all also achieving sweeps with over 50% margins. All of those Balls gain entry to the exclusive 50% sweeper club, joining Water Type, Flying Type, and Ghost Type.

i wasn't sure if you would read the tags i'd leave if i reblogged your reply to my ask so i decided to just send you another ask! ha! i'll bullet point them this time bc i have quite a few things to say:

1. you can definitely keep my asks public, i really don't mind :)

2. never have i ever been so excited to open an email, and that too first thing in the morning. seeing your reply, especially that little treat at the end (!!!!!!!!!), had me smiling and kicking my feet in bed. i'm, impossibly enough, even more excited for Emberclaw now.

3. having more than one narrative position in a book is certainly ambitious and one that i haven't encountered in any other book so far, but it grows on you, fast (at least it did on me), and can be an acquired taste to some who are willing to give it a chance. i think you might just be the first author who has changed my mind completely on first person narratives and i owe it to your flawless delivery, of course (i'm biased, i'll admit). also, "narrative positions" was exactly the word that wouldn't come to me in my fit of excitement while writing my last ask; it was a tiny brain-fart moment on my part when i said "pov choice" instead haha.

4. this is more of an aside really but it once took me 400 pages (of a 800+ pages) to get into a book, so imho, 50 pages isn't asking for much. fantasy novels tend to be a little demanding! also, it was my first proper foray into epic fantasy. i then went on to finish the series despite the really, really, really slow start. the slowest. i think a reader can tell when the wait will be worth it though, almost like a gut feeling.

5. multi-pov is another polarizing aspect of books, but then again, it can be enjoyed if done well. i once read a book with 14 povs and gave it 5 stars. it wasn't even a fantasy novel, but a contemporary one! in comparison, your book with its 4 povs is pretty tame, and i think, even the norm for epic/high fantasy novels. personally, i enjoy being in the head of different characters! especially when you've got a big cast of them. also, that surprise 5th pov toward the end took me quite by surprise!! jaw, meet floor.

6. i do have a GR account! and i certainly have plans on leaving well-deserved, glowing reviews on both the book and audio :) it's the least i can do!

7. this one is more of a suggestion to those who might find the narrative positioning a little jarring: listen to the audiobook instead; it warms you up to it much faster!

i think that just about covers it. again, i cannot say this enough, but Dragonfall would not be the story i fell absolutely in love with had you not made the narrative (ha!) choices you did. i hope more people come to appreciate and love it as much as i do, and are willing to give it the fair chance it deserves <3

I think I'd see the tags! I'm so out of practice with Tumblr, but I have enjoyed coming back to it as I feel in some ways I can be more authentic over here rather than the more traditional promo over on tiktok and insta. Not that I'm inauthentic elsewhere it's just...here you can be a bit more off the cuff, I think?

2. Aww yay! Interacting with readers is honestly one of my favourite things. I'm so excited when I hear from someone who got what I was trying to do. Releasing art for public consumption can be excellent but also hard. Dragonfall is probably my most personal book, so it being marmite made me so self-conscious. I always think about that Don Marquis quote "Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo." It's nice when you get the echoes back. :-)

3. I was inspired to be experimental after reading The Fifth Season, which is a masterpiece. I've heard good things about The Spear Cuts Through Water which also does cool narrative position trickery, I think. I also really love framing devices of people looking back, like in Assassin's Apprentice by Hobb (my fave author, as evidenced by the dedication). I'm glad I could open you up to all the opportunities of first person! I taught a class on narrative positions when I was a creative writing lecturer so I'm just very passionate about how form can marry function, hah.

4. Yes, four (technically five) is tame compared to some! I did seven in Seven Mercies and whew, that was a lot, even though technically my co-writer and I mostly split it up. My next projects will be 2 and then 1 as a bit of a breather. It is harder to balance multi POV, but I love the "heteroglossia" potential of storytelling.

7. I wish I could listen to the audiobooks of my books! I get too self-conscious or want to edit. I can say that Philip and Rachel did amazing jobs from the samples I head, though, and I was super excited they hired a nonbinary voice actor for Arcady. This was also my first time having more than one voice actor, which was neat.

BlueStar's Year In Review

Thought I might make a blog review post of sorts this year cause it seemed fun.

It's been a very fun year for me on here. I joined tumblr for the gifs, and for fan talk, back in 2015. I mainly focused on the Dominion, 12 Monkeys, and Supernatural shows. All of which have been off air for a while now but I've continued to find fandoms to latch onto, the latest being the Pedro Pascal character fandom.

I've only had good experiences with this fandom since I joined in, starting around July 2022 after finally watching The Mandalorian. I'd seen Pedro in other shows before, but that was the first role I really noticed him in (shame on my younger self for not paying more attention to Marcus Pike before).

Finding out Pedro was going to play Joel Miller in an HBO show that same month, after having discovered/watched the TLOU games in May/June 2022 and being a newfound fan of game Joel, it kinda felt like fate. And then going through most of Pedro's major movies and shows before and during the time The Last of Us show aired solidified my want to be part of the fandom.

This year has seen a shift in my blog in major ways in large part to the Pedro Pascal characters and fandom. It's still very much for reblogging gifs of my favorite characters/shows/movies, but I've now shifted to also being a very fanfic heavy blog, where before I was only posting and reading fics on fanfiction net.

I started writing fanfic for the first time in years because of Din in 2022, but it wasn't until Pedro's version of Joel in January that I started reading fanfic again (since SPN ended) and eventually started writing for other Pedro Pascal characters.

Through reading fanfic about these characters and writing for them I've truly immersed myself in a fandom again and it's been a wonderful distraction, especially with how stressful real life has been in recent years trying to find a job I can live with, and dealing with not liking where I am in life (I thought I'd have more by this age - my own house, family, etc.).

I'm really grateful for those who have had discussions with me and who have read my fics; those who reblogged and left comments and reaction gifs that made me smile (reaction gifs are so fun). While I do write for myself first, every note has given me a serotonin boost, and it has lead to me having my first ever post with 100 notes! (And it's for one of my favorite fics I've written Sweet Summer). Notes aren't everything, but they're worth celebrating! They make me feel like I'm a part of something and not just in the background. I like contributing.

It will also be based around one of my favorite things to write besides smut. Take a guess.

After Baby Fever is completed I'll be looking to start writing another series, this time for Dieter called Unknown which will share a bit of plot and humor with that Disney movie The Game Plan (hopefully - I don't write humor much) but Dieter-fied. It'll feature less sports and more romance and angst. My two greatest loves.

pre-note: i'm not interested in complaining or insisting that this website shouldn't change. i want tumblr to be profitable and to grow, and that's going to involve changing things so more people will use it and understand it. i have been using this website since 2011, i recommend joining/rejoining tumblr to my friends whenever i can, and i've even bought socks and a mousepad from the shop LMAO. i have some genuine advice and things to consider that could help tumblr and i am offering all of this for free with no expectation of return.

i truly believe that if @staff @changes fixed the "because you follow #tag" feature, it would solve a lot of the issues that new users have when coming to the site.

currently, this feature:

- puts a disproportionately low number of posts from followed tags on the dashboard

- repeats the same posts over and over instead of providing new content from the tag.

these can be fixed by:

- instituting a % value for how much of the dash is from the followed tags. i would suggest that this percentage is higher if you follow very few blogs, and lowers as you follow more individuals. for someone like me who follows 400 blogs, i think as many as 1 in 15 posts could be from a followed tag.

it is important that this is not algorithm based. users only see posts from the tags they follow. i would hope that you've gathered how anti-algorithm your current userbase is. please do not alienate us.

as a middle ground on that issue, i would suggest adding suggested tags to the menu of suggested blogs that appears on the right side of the dash. that suggested blogs feature is one of the best changes this site has seen IMO, and has really helped me find more people to follow. implementing the same this for tags will get more eyes on more blogs and increase time on the site.

encouraging users to follow tags (or "join communities" if you want a fresh coat of paint) and actually putting a variety of posts from those tags on the dashboard would improve the experience for creators and get more eyes on their work without tumblr having to guess what a user is interested in.

- not showing the user multiple copies of the same post if it is from a followed tag.

i recommend keeping the presence of duplicate posts from individual blogs for multiple reasons. 1: a post fundamentally changes as more people add tags, replies, and reblogs; if the post disappears into the void after you see it once, you won't see any of this beautiful creativity and community discussion. 2: spam reblogging is funny sometimes. 3: if it's been a long time since you've seen a post, it can be fun to see it creep up again.

the key is that this repetition is because a human person liked the post enough to reblog it again.

it is ESSENTIAL that users do NOT see content that they did not ask for on their dashboards.

yes, algorithmic suggestion is a feature on other social media sites. even on those sites, the users complain about this and ask others for ways to turn it off and view a chronological following feed. i have personally seen this on twitter and reddit. this will be much worse with the current tumblr userbase, who is hostile to algorithms.

i have more thoughts on this matter but didn't want to join the flame war. on the low low low chance that someone from staff sees this my DMs are open for free consultation from a long time average user

i- wow... this was super quick haha thank you guys so much<3 i was missing my old blog a few days ago but then i realized i probably wouldn't have met a few of you so i'm grateful for getting the fresh start and a chance to meet some of you guys<3 so we're at 500 followers and it's christmas (kinda sorta almost there)! let's do this!

not only was I one of the first people in line for the Oscar Isaac panel, bUT I GOT TO ASK HIM A QUESTION

(I asked him if he’s ever “liberated” anything from any of the sets/studios/stages he’s worked on and what those things were and where they were now, and he said that he would steal little props from all the shows he’s worked on and keep them in his basement and closet on shelves as mementos)

He also called Pedro his slut of a husband and that he would never leave him (someone asked about their relationship/bromance) and honestly that’s just a W in general.

Overall: I have officially won at life and literally nothing can/will top this moment 😌

so @kalliravenne challenged me to write an incubus!D. Priest fic with hints of darkness and dream fuckery....and i think/hope i achieved that.....

this is also the first thing that i've written in the past year and a half so it's bound to be a bit more than rusty but regardless, i hope you enjoy it!!! much love <3

(also this was supposed to be short but managed to be long as shit with hella filler. so read as you will lmao XD)

For as long as you could remember, the club you worked at was always packed, booked, and busy on Halloween nights. How could it not be? A decent enough drink at a less-than-decent establishment with a pretty bad good chance of going home with someone you’ll forget in the next twenty-four hours? What could be better this time of year?

The line already started to curve around the block, with girlfriends dragging along their boyfriends, girl friends having a fun night out with their girl friends, and lonely twenty-somethings just wanting to get their rocks off. You rolled your eyes at the sight as you slipped through the “employee’s only” entrance and dropped your bag inside your locker in the backroom lounge.

The place was damp, the neon lights were shitty, the bar was sticky with gum and drinks you couldn’t quite scrub out, and the walls were covered in graffiti and scrawled-on phone numbers and who knows what else…but you couldn’t help but smile as you filed in behind your coworkers because it was home, your home for the past few years.

“Hey!” one of your coworkers yelled from across the room, calling your name and rushing towards you in a cloud of gold and glitter. “Where’s your costume? Kevin wanted all of us to get into the holiday spirit tonight.”

You dropped your bag into your locker before reaching inside and pulling out a plastic bag. As much as you loved your boss for tolerating you all these years and keeping you hired, he always had a flare for dramatics that was incredibly extra. He had texted every one of your coworkers that you were required to dress up for tonight’s holiday festivities and then proceeded to - at least, to your knowledge - doused the insides of the club with so many cheap Halloween decorations that you’re sure he ran the local party store fresh out of their stock for the next year.

“I know, Cynthia,” you told her, pulling out a small wire halo and angel wings covered in white and silver feathers. “Can’t you tell what I’m gonna be?” You plastered on a smile and gestured down to your all-white party dress and heels.

“You never wear all white, though…” She gasped. “Are you an angel?”

“Exactly, and you are…?”

“Cleopatra, silly!” she smiled, giving you a twirl, the glitter adorning her bodice and skin spreading everywhere. “I’m gonna be by the door handing out flyers and stuff for the dance competition later, so I gotta look cute and eye-catching somehow.”

Cynth gave you a wink before rushing back off to finish her makeup, her beaded headpiece clacking away and making you smile softly before you slipped on your own accessories over your “costume”. The heels you wore were just for show, after all, just for showing Kevin that you actually tried to put some effort in for tonight.

“Fucking hell,” you muttered, forcing a smile onto your face as you stumbled your way past your coworkers and through the back of the club, finally pulling back the curtain that lead into the main dancefloor.

The swirling neon spotlights damn near blinded you when you emerged, the DJ already setting up hisetlist for the night as mini pumpkin, ghost and other Halloween confettis absolutely littered the floor. There was orange and black confetti coming down from the ceiling, giant bat stickers on the walls, orange and green glowsticks linen the floors….there were even Halloween themed condoms in a cup by the bathrooms in case there were any rowdy couples who can’t keep it in their pants.

Kev really went all out this year, huh, but guess who has to clean all of this up later tonight, you thought to yourself, silently cursing your boss before taking your place behind the bar and pulling out the foam slides you always hid below the glasses, immediately slipping off your heels and sliding them on with a sigh of relief.

You always leave your space tidy and well-kept despite how crappy it may look at first glance; you always kept your glasses cleaned, your multiple bar towels ready for the multiple accidents that always seem to happen on the other side, your tumblers are always together and you always restock your various liquors weekly. It’s your home away from home, your place to control and dictate.

You were cleaning off some glasses nearby with one of your bar towels, trying to shoulder one side of your angel wings back onto place when the music really started to kick up, the bass hitting you all the way in the back just as the front doors opened and the flood of people started filling the space.

In a matter of minutes, both the main dancefloor and the smaller second floor were full of eager partygoers looking for a good time, the air around the bar already feeling hot and stuffy from the bodies packed against each other.

Speaking of, the bar was packed with people looking forward to their first drink out of many of the night, each person and group shouting off what drinks, cocktails and mocktails they wanted off the Halloween menu Kev had you create and memorize the week prior.

But you’ve always loved a challenge, and tonight proved no different.

You never knew what kind of people you were going to get as you threw your bar towel over your shoulder and began taking orders, jotting them down with the person’s description on the small notepad you kept in the side cabinet. Some nights it was mainly loners, drifters who couldn’t quite find their crowd, sometimes it was scared twenty-one year-olds getting dragged along with their older friends as they threw literally every high-alcohol content drink that you had down their throats, and other times it was creeps who couldn’t quite keep their eyes in their heads and their hands to themselves.

But something deep within your mind told you otherwise; it told you that tonight would be…different. Something told you that tonight would finally make you feel something.

Yeah, right, you scoffed, reaching for your glasses and getting ready for the long night ahead. Like that’ll ever happen.

Bonus points if it’s totally stupid like Steve mistook San Francisco as San Flamingo when he was a kid and calls it that to this day. Max just pats Billy’s arm and informs, “That one’s yours.”

That’s Billy.

(and Steve, after he realizes how much work HE put into relationships without getting anything back. Then his efforts are finally returned and he has to lie down.)

My #1 post of 2022

Thinking about a scenario where Billy and Steve become dads, but once their daughter is walking, talking, and really thinking for herself (4 or 5 years old), Billy becomes the kind of dad who’s very quiet. Not quite negligent, but he stands aside and lets Steve do everything.

It gets to a point where their daughter asks Steve if her daddy doesn’t love her. (Kids are blunt with their words but this really slices Steve open.)

Steve tells Billy, and Billy doesn’t really get time to consider anything. He doesn’t have the time to look for therapists (he’s already in therapy, but that’s for complex ptsd, not parenting) or to ask his little girl if she’d go to a park or anything with him. They already had planned to go to some kid’s birthday party at a restaurant on a boat dock.

At the party, they really only know the birthday kid’s family. But they get to know some snotty little asshole real fast because he just won’t leave their little girl alone. She’s on the verge of spilling tears when Billy interrupts, “Kid, can you swim?”

“Duh, I can swim,” he responded, all proud.

Billy picked him up and chucked him into the lake. “Well look at that. He can swim - ”

The kid’s dad comes over swinging. Gets lucky and lands one punch before Billy decimates the man. He doesn’t waste time. Kick to the balls, hit to the gut, the face, and he falls right into the lake next to his kid.

Billy scoops up his daughter and waves off the waiters and busboys who look like they feel obligated to do something, but aren’t getting paid enough in their summer jobs to fight a raging father.

Steve is beside his family in an instant, bag already packed and money on their table while their baby curls herself very small in her daddy’s big arms. “When we get home, I’m teaching you how to throw a punch. You can practice on Big Teddy. He won’t ruin your tea parties anymore.”

At home, she puts a sparkly star sticker on her daddy’s bruised cheek. He asks for a sticker every day until it heals. She kisses it just in case, and long after it’s healed and it’s a fifty/fifty chance that the kiss will be a raspberry instead.

Steve might be the dad who helps his daughter feel big, but Billy’s the one who helps her not fear being small.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper Hecatoncheir Magicite Fight

Hecatoncheir is the 5-star earth Magicite boss in the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (FFRK) mobile game.

He takes reduced damage against magical and ninjutsu attacks and he’s weak to the wind element.

I decided to take a break from the Argent Odin or White Odin quest level 600 fight to try this one.

After all, 5-star Magicite fights should be way easier when compared to the Odin ones since they’re only quest level 400.

Besides, I also wanted to try building a physical wind team already. And, after getting my first Odin Magicite, wanted to test it out as well.

Tyro served as my support and Wrath and Entrust bot. He may not be the best physical support out there but he’s the only one I’ve got so have to make do with him.

Vaan was here for his Chain Soul Break, but he can help deal damage via his AASB.

Angeal acted as my secondary DPS. He can also provide a damage reduction barrier via his Sync.

On a side note, I love the animation for Angeal’s AASB2 because it features Genesis Rhapsodos from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Currently, Genesis is my absolute, most favorite Final Fantasy VII (#ad) char. He’s the reason why I’m playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper.

Elarra served as my healer. Her USB1 provides high quick cast and Regenga. Her USB2 increases the critical hit damage of the party.

This combos very well with Tyro’s USB4 and AASB, both of which can increase the party’s critical hit chance.

Ah, I really wish I had Elarra’s AASB. Then I could have brought her to the White Odin fight instead of Lenna Charlotte Tycoon from Final Fantasy V.

Lenna’s a perfectly serviceable healer, especially since I have all of her non-Lensable relics but she can’t sing to debuff enemies and she has nothing like Elarra’s USB2.

Zack was my main DPS. I even made his Hero Ability, Rush Assault. He did very well. They all did. Even my Level 50 Odin Magicite whose entry and follow-ups always broke the damage cap.

The fight didn’t take that long to end. It was a stark contrast to how long and difficult the Argent Odin battle was. This one was way too easy compared to that.

In fact, it was so easy that I tried to auto it. I dropped Tyro since Wrath and Entrust was useless for auto fights.

Replaced him with Zidane Tribal from Final Fantasy IX. I only have Zidane’s AASB, Reverse Gaia, though. But that was fine for this fight. With just a few tweaks, was able to get the auto up and running and got the win again in no time.

thinking about how i want a fic post-series canon where korn basically tells the whole mafia world that vegas and macau died in the shoot out tragically so that the two of them are forced to fuck off into the horizon with pete and stay out of the theerapanyakul empire

so pete takes vegas and macau to his old hometown with grandma and a shitton of retirement money thrown at them by korn (and he periodically sends them more money just for kicks) which means that pete opens up a little dojo teaching small children how to defend themselves from abusive adults, vegas doesnt quite go for therapy but is given the space and time to heal, and macau is shit outta luck bc he still gotta study in uni

also with the fake death nonsense that means vegas and macau are saengtham now and if anyone even looks at her grandson-in-law funny, grandma is likely to throw her cane at them

i just wanna see vegas bloom from having to put on his manipulative fake genial mask on in front of grandma to actually genuinely enjoying her knowledge and company and learning from her bc so much of pete came from her and vegas finds he loves this kindly old woman as much as he loves his husband

vegas going for old ppl taichi with grandma and afternoon gossip sessions in the local park where a bunch of old ppl gather with homemade snacks and drinks and share neighbourhood/town news with each other and he finally gets a chance to find a sense of community in the people around him who he thought were extremely distant and removed from the mafia circle but it turns out when you live till this sorta age you see all sorts of horrible shit in life too

im thinking about a plate sliding off a table and triggering vegas' memory of kan and he pretty much has ptsd and starts losing his shit in public despite not wanting to and the whole painful spiral of going thru that and the community elders who sit thru it with him and guide him firmly but gently out of shell shock because they have seen trauma in so many loved ones and now vegas is one of those people too
