Reposted @raileybaceprints Keeping the unusual style train rolling - here’s the poster for @joerussosalmostdead ‘s shows in Atlanta this weekend, rescheduled from the same days last month, which is why we’ve still got some February action going on! I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and make a little homage to the posters of yesteryear, especially the wonderful rock and soul/r&b posters that lined the halls and walls of Atlanta venues back a few decades back. I’ve always had a huge soft spot for letterpress posters with HUGE type hits, so getting to play with those and still put my spin on a photopolymer plate print breaking the border and reality of the poster was super duper fun. Always thankful to @joeyjoeyrusso for letting me run free with everything I make for this wildly fun bunch. Big thank you to @firecrestpress for crushing the printing on these, he rules. @arghrist is also a very wonderful illustrator for those who don’t know, so you absolutely should check out his work if you haven’t yet!! These are at the shows with the OG dates printed on, in both reg and foil, and I’ll have these/the 10th anniversary prints with me at SXSW, and I’m the new shop after. Reposted from @raileybaceprints I’m so immensely honored to present the art for @mtjoyband ‘s double header at the iconic @redrocksco next august!! The concept is heavily inspired by the ideas of balance, twins, and connection - all playing into the fact that this will be our first time playing two nights rather than one single night we’ve played the last few years. Each side has a myriad of details that lead into this - from the poses of the figures (left being open and right being reserved), to the overall tones of the scenes, to the color of their hair, and many more Easter eggs peppered throughout… it was really a blast to work on something with so much intention, while still getting loose to illustrate the center abstracted section. The right side is also my own take on our orange blood video, which was suuuuuper fun to recreate in my style!! Thank you as always to my team and the band for trusting me with my vision for these, it didn’t make a lick of sense when I presented it to the gang. The band and I will have these available at the show dates, and I’ll also have art print version available way way way out after the shows. When the Dave team asked me to come back for another print I was stoked, when they asked me to drum something up for the city that I’ve lived in for the last two years? Resounding yes. Funny enough, this is only the second gig I had for Mpls, and the only one that I tried to incorporate local elements in. I wanted to work in the loon and blue heron somehow, and then I had the idea of an 80s/90s adventure novel/movie, and bam - I had a poster in which I had a blast creating every detail of. Reposted from @raileybaceprints Honored and stoked to reveal a new diptych that I was invited by @therevivalists to create for their shows here in Nash at @theryman with @parisjackson tonight and tomorrow!! A few days after moving down here, I was out running errands when I was stuck in traffic, looked up at the various rolling hills surrounding the highway, and thought “huh, that looks just like a rolling wave that a ship would crash over on a journey into the city!” So, I went home and feverishly sketched the idea down and sent it over, they were into the idea, and this guy was born. Ships almost at the end of their journey towards the Ryman. This is also the first print in YEARS that I didn’t use yellow on, it sounds like a really trivial point to make, but this was a CHALLENGE. ANYWAYS, thank you @delicious_design_league for turning these around right quick in time for the show, and thank you to the revs team as always! The band has copies at the show tonight and tomorrow, and my AP’s will be going up this week with my @mtjoyband Ryman and Lucktoberfest copies, once I get around to signing and numbering everything. Anyone who knows me or my work, you know that I’ve been working with the band for years now, and that they’re easily one of my all time favorite bands - so the fact that I got to do a “hometown” poster for the first time ever was a massive, massive deal for me. This is also the first year where this is my one and only poster for them, which has been weird, but I’ve been a busy lil bee behind the scenes working on so many things for them, so this was a fun break. I wanted to roll with a weird and psychedelic concept - following suit with our new record ‘orange blood’ which paints a beautiful and psychedelic desert soundscape across so many great tracks, with stained glass being an homage to the BEAUTIFUL venue tonight. The band has these at the merch booth - with a very limited amount signed, and I’ll have AP’s available soon. For those here tonight, I’m sure it’ll be a magical magical experience. Reposted from @raileybaceprints Excited to have been asked by @umphreysmcgee to create a piece for their two night stint in Montana tonight and tomorrow! Even more excited that they were cool with me expanding the mushroomverse lore with this new piece!! Their only art direction for me was “we want one of your gnarly characters over a Montana mountain range”, and boy - did I have fun running with that. Those unfamiliar with the mushroomverse - it’s a post human world where it’s inhabitants live among leftover tech and magic alike, where massive giants and gods roam freely, each of which giving just a little more insight into the new society that’s grown from the fumble of ours. This is print #6 in the series, and the second of which to feature a new one of these gods - with the last focusing on a roaming ronin, and this one featuring a peaceful, spiritual deity with long flowing robes. More long flowing robes, please! As always - thanks a million to @sep_lab and @vahalla for bringing my work to life!!
