The magical academy of Raya Lucaria is sealed off behind a magical barrier, which keeps all intruders out of its halls (and perhaps keeps its inhabitants in.)

Nonetheless, there's a strange visitor in the debate parlor, a great red wolf which stands out like a sore thumb from its environment. It belongs to Radagon, former husband of the Academy's heartbroken Queen Rennala, and while it might have lingered behind simply as a cute memento from a dearly departed husband... I can't help but suspect there might be a more unwholesome reason it has occupied the debate parlor. There are bones on the floor in there, now, and the only people it could possibly be feeding on are... the Lucarians themselves.

Let's journey through Liurnia to find it, and discuss.

Radagon of the Golden Order & Red Wolf of Radagon

It just dawned on me, what if the Red Wolf of Radagon was actually a gift to him from Rennala?

Red Wolves appear to be descended from the north, similarly to Rennala and the Carians. Their gigantism and red fur draws a distinct parallel to the Fire Giants, and their application of Carian Glintblade sorcery would suggest a close association with the Carians dating back to the original Astrologers who shared the starry summit with the Fire Giants. (One Red Wolf appears in the Consecrated Snowfield, an area loaded with suspicious connections to Ranni.)

Though they are capable of incantation, this doesn't appear to be an influence of Radagon, as the blade they summon is red-gold in color, evoking the primordial energies of the Crucible. The design of the blade itself is even reminiscent of Ordovis's Greatsword, albeit curved. This would suggest this species is particularly ancient, or at least extremely long-lived.

Elsewhere, Red Wolves appear in areas associated with Caria and its destiny, such as the cemetery behind the manor, or at the heart of Gelmir Hero's Tomb, drawing a connection to Rykard. (Perhaps these were pups of the Red Wolf of Radagon...? or maybe siblings?)

It's kind of cute to think of Rennala traveling south to Liurnia in her youth in the company of a towering wolf. But just as with the "Full Moon Greatsword," Radagon ultimately rejected her gift, or rather prescribed it an ulterior purpose...
