okay. my favourite details from the death note musical london performance:
the booklet being paged right to left. with a page at the end saying "you're reading in the wrong direction!"
okay but MISA MISA HAVING LIKE 5 BACK-UP DANCERS LITERALLY ALSO DRESSED UP AS MISA MISA (it was so funny to see them dance around her)
light being dragged along by sayu to misa's concerts. like the Older Brother he is.
misa's concert on stage literally had a rap segment it was WILD
sayu later fangirling over misa's 'latest song' in light's bedroom only for him to be having a life crisis right next to her because of the message in the lyrics. he was sat there like...."ill gladly give you half my years"????
L keeping the "yagami-san", "light-kun" when he talked to them!!!!!! (naturally only happened one time each BUT STILL IT WAS COOL)
ryuk taking any and every opportunity to be sassy. the audience laughed tons at his lines in particular.
like light saying "they're calling it divine justice!" and him responding "or oooh, you know, mass murder. that totally has a ring to it too :D"
L's iconic "well, light...you're the first friend I've ever had." and "what? why are you staring at me? is it...because im the only one who has sweets?" (they changed it slightly cause I think he had marshmallows on a stick? and was walking around with it, gesturing)
after the tennis match, light threw down his racket at L's feet and L held both rackets up awkwardly like a peace offering as he walked towards him
but I swear L nearly DROPPED THEM when misa arrived, I just loved watching him slip into the crowd of fans all eagerly and then the phone call scene afterwards. so iconic.
rem's. vocals. were insane. Borrowed Time. was also amazing.
PUNS ??? during misa's interrogation scene, she's naturally defending light, saying he's not kira, but also defending kira all "kira has saved us all! he's taken away the darkness in society!" ONLY TO HAVE L SNAP BACK "so....light?"
then after this one song finishes, L exclaims "Light!" out of like realisation but then the stage lights actually turn on and he's like.... "oh. convenient :)"
the way the music played in between songs during dialogue was SO GOOD it was really satisfying.
AND THEN THEY REALLY HAD LIGHT SAY "well. they do say the pen is mightier than the sword." near the end. that's just CHEESY
light. laughing. as he was winning against L at the end. "I just wanted to see your face as you realised I won :)" unhinged arrogant boy
only to have him panicking and snivelling on the ground all pathetic as he realises what ryuk's about to do.
and so, at the end. ryuk was sat at the big red chair at the centre after killing light. watching over everything. both dead bodies. the last haunting requiem. it was such a menacing and powerful sight.

Lucy's First Migraine
brainstormed during a bad bad headache, written and edited during a less bad headache; this is my first time in actual years writing fanfic so please be gentle, but i'd love to hear what you think about it!
Summary: It's not Lucy's first migraine, but it's the first time that someone cares that she's in pain. Staring Lockwood being undeniably in love with Lucy, and oblivious to it; George being a supportive and lovely icon; and Lucy being vulnerable in front of her boys. And special guest references to some of my other posts..
Word count: 1394
Trigger warning: migraine and accompanying symptoms, food mention, I think that's it (let me know if I missed something)
Lucy couldn't really turn her hearing off. She's heard things all the time always for as long as she could remember. It could all be very overwhelming and with little to no reprieve it was no surprise to Lucy that she had quite frequent headaches. Constant overstimulation did no one any favors.
While she was no stranger to headaches, she hadn't had a big one like this in a while. And truth be told, that should have tipped her off. Back home she had at least one or two big headaches like this in a month. She'd always had to do her best to work through it though, her mother would never allow for her to stay home because of a little headache.Never mind that these "little headaches" had Lucy on verge of tears and fighting down nausea every time she moved and with every small noise.
And that is just what she found herself doing this particular morning.
Laying as still as she could, Lucy cursed the window for not having better curtains. The light was shining right into her eyes and while she could usually turn over to block it out, it felt like her head might just explode if she tried it.
It didn't help that her boys were downstairs making a racket while fixing breakfast and she could hear whispers of visitors out on the street. Not very strong mind you, it was broad daylight, but it was just enough to further her irritation. God how she wanted to be downstairs with Lockwood and George. She wanted her cup of morning tea and her toast, both of which Lockwood would have undoubtedly ready and waiting by now.
"Luce? Are you awake yet?" Lockwood knocked on the door as he opened it. His voice was probably not as loud as it felt to Lucy; still it reverberated through her, and she must have let out a noise with what was meant to be a silent wince, because the next thing she knew Lockwood was knelt by her bedside.
"Lucy? What's happened? Are you ill?" god why was he so loud- she shifted away from him in an attempt to put distance between her and the noise. That was just about the worst thing she could have done and the tears that she'd been doing her best to stave off started rolling. " 'S too loud" she managed.
Lockwood perched himself gingerly on the edge of the bed and only hesitated once before placing the back of his hand to her forehead. "You're feverish..." Lucy wanted to tilt her head away from him but the outside pressure felt nice- and also that would have hurt more so she just laid there and cried.
"Mmm head hurts" was all she was able to get out, and that was almost unintelligible. Lockwood sat with it for a second before seeming to piece together what was wrong.
As much as he couldn't turn off his sight, he figured the same would be true for Lucy’s hearing, but never stopped to think what the consequences of that might be.
"Wait here Luce". His first stop was to dash back downstairs and tell George to halt breakfast preparations where they were, they honestly already had enough prepared for the two of them, and Lucy's tea and toast were already waiting for her.
"Did Lucy decide to sleep in?" George was still facing away dealing with dishes when Lockwood came into the kitchen. "Keep you voice down, Luce has got a terrible headache and sound is bothering her." George whipped around, still elbow deep in soapy water.
"She can hear them still can't she?" "She told you?" "What? No, I just- it makes sense. She's the best at it, she's so sensitive it would make sense that she can hear them all the time." Yes that did make sense. After all, if talking with the Skull for the first time was so overwhelming that she passed out…
"Well either way, we need to make it as quiet as possible inside, even if we can't do much about visitors out on the street. And we'll need to block up that window in her room. Get her tea and toast onto a tray would you? I'm going to get a damp cloth for her forehead- she's burning up." Lockwood was rapid fire listing off things they needed to do to get Lucy feeling well again.
George shook his head slightly, Anthony Lockwood may act holier-than-thou and be brash and want to charge into things head first- but when it came down to it he really did care for his friends. "We'll this'll change the dinner plans, we should probably have something more on the bland side, it'll be better if she's feeling any nausea. That is if she's up to eating at all."
The two set about loading up a tray to take up to their companion. By the time they reached the landing in her room Lucy had managed to scramble herself over to the little bathroom and was laying on the cooler tile with an arm over her face, as far away from the light as possible. And she had done it without throwing up, thank you very much.
Setting down the tray on the nightstand, Gorge went about blocking out the light and left coaxing Lucy back to bed to the boy who was so obviously infatuated with the prickly girl. Lockwood was knelt a safe distance from Lucy, his hand stretched out as though she were a wild animal. “Lu? George and I have brought you up some tea and toast, just the way you like. You wanna go back to bed and try to eat some?” even though his voice was barely a whisper, the best response that Lucy was able to give was a pathetic whimper.
The room visibly darkened and Lockwood chewed his cheek and looked over at George; who shrugged his shoulders and went about pulling the blankets and sheets in effort to make it comfy for their friend. “Okay Luce, I’m going to lift you okay? Just to get you to the bed. George has got it nice and comfy, I’ve got a cool cloth for you. It’ll be much comfier than the floor” the best he could get out of the prone girl was a pathetic half nod that pulled another groan and more tears from the girl. So, heart breaking at the thought of causing Lucy more pain, he lifted her shoulders, mindful of her head.
“Can you stand with me darling girl?” From his spot across the room George shot Lockwood a bewildered look mouthing “darling girl?” at his back. Lockwood had managed to get a half limp Lucy to lean nearly all her weight against him. Very slowly and very quietly he managed to shuffle them back to her bed. “Thanks.” Lucy’s voice was still low and she spoke as if it caused her pain, her eyes were still screwed shut, but she didn’t seem to be crying anymore. George tucked a few pillows around her, making sure her head and neck were supported and that her shoulders were even. Lockwood pulled the sheet and the thinnest blanket over her.
She was definitely already asleep, no time for tea or toast then. No matter, Lockwood would make her any number of cups of tea and plates of toast, however many times she asked for more. George gestured that he was going to go back downstairs and Lockwood nodded. For a moment he just sat at the edge of her bed, looking at her. He had said once, that he and George would look after her, and he meant it. Seeing now how much pain her talent, her gift, he would be sure to pay more attention in the coming days to see how she recovered. He would be paying attention to potential triggers, though there wasn’t much he could do about the visitors. He swore that he would always be there after a case to take care of her.
Placing the cool cloth on her forehead, he settled in on the floor, keeping watch over the restless girl. And if he was still there later that evening, rather early the next morning, when Lucy finally woke up and was able to speak, that was no one’s business.

Kaos - "Top Secret" What? Stuff Song released in 1980. Compilation released in 1990. Punk Rock / Hardcore Punk
Plays: 6.6K+ on Spotify // 8.2K+ on YouTube
Alright, so, in order to fully contextualize this gem, we're gonna have to go all the way back to 1977, because that's the year that saw the release of the Los Angeles punk scene's first ever record, The Germs' iconic and aptly titled "Forming." That little, deeply impactful 7-inch came out on a small, yet ultimately indispensable label called What? Records, which later sold its name to a Christian label and then resumed as Iloki, a Hawaiian-sounding name that didn't mean anything in the Hawaiian language itself, but instead cleverly reflected the attitude of its owner Chris Ashford—"I, low-key"—as he transitioned his business into a surf rock and surf punk outfit.
But long before the name change and soon after that Germs record were a few more seminal LA punk releases by bands that, like the Germs, had also been fixtures at Los Angeles' very first punk rock club, The Masque, too. These were The Dils' "I Hate the Rich," a split 7-inch EP by Eyes, Controllers, and The Skulls called "Don't Talk to Me" / "(The Original) Neutron Bomb" / "Victims," and another 7-inch by Controllers simply titled "Neutron Bomb."
And it's those Controllers who are really key here, because after putting out "Neutron Bomb" in '78 and then another 7-inch in '79 on the Beverly Hills-based Siamese Records called "Slow Boy," they disbanded. Frontman Johnny Stingray had been playing bass in the band for the past year, and while he didn't really mind that, he had also come into possession of a sweet, new Ibanez Les Paul guitar too, and he simply wanted to rock out on that damn thing. So in late '79 he formed a new group called Kaos, which he could lead on both vocals and guitar, and he enlisted his bassist girlfriend, Amy Wichmann, her guitarist pal, Lisa Adams, and on drums was none other than beloved San Jose garage and psych group The Chocolate Watchband's Pete Curry too?!? 😮
1980 would then see Kaos put out their only record, a three-song 7-inch on What? called Product of a Sick Mind, which contained a great second track on it called "Top Secret." And this is one that simply fulfilled Johnny Stingray's wish to be front and center in a band of his own making. Plus, it's a song that, despite turning 44 this year, has still managed to maintain every ounce of the raucous punk rock edge that it originally started with.
And there's really just something about so many of these early punk rock tunes in general, whether they be by The Stooges or MC5 in Detroit who started it all, The Sex Pistols over in the UK, or any of LA's own first wave crop, that just still, remarkably, have this timelessly cool and rebellious sound to them, and I don't think that you can really say the same for too many other genres. I mean, think about other types of music that were once also ridiculed as being infernal, demonic racket: rock & roll, jazz, hip hop; all of their first records, while they might still sound nice, are all so tame and quaint by today's standards. But a whole lot of early punk rock records have not suffered from that same level of tarnishing yet, and at this point, it doesn't really seem like they ever will.
The nice thing about punk rock, as well as its antecedent of garage rock, is that it saw rock music advancing and expanding towards uncharted levels of refined, insufferable snobbery, and it effectively then said, "nah, fuck all that, we're going back to the original spirit of this music, which is that feather-ruffling, rabble-rousing, dangerous type shit." And to its own credit, despite pretty much anyone having the ability to play in a punk band, those early days of punk rock generated some absolute gold that still more than holds up to this very day, and this little song by the ultimately fleeting Kaos, "Top Secret," which doesn't really have very many plays on either Spotify or YouTube, is just one of many.
Also on Spotify, but credited to the Controllers.
And here's a post I made about an Iloki comp that was put out in 1987 and has some really good surf stuff on it too!

Boy, Elon Musk's various media appearances did not age well. Star Trek: Discovery gave him a shout-out like he were a legendary scientist that people still talked about centuries in the future. The Simpsons gave him an entire episode. Rick and Morty had that godawful cameo, and Saturday Night Live let him host an episode. He actually had a lot of cameos that I didn't know about (I had NO idea that he was in Iron Man 2.)
At least The AV Club's "The Musk Who Fell to Earth" review roasted the episode (and this was all the way back in 2015):
“The Musk Who Fell To Earth” plays out more like a love letter to Musk than a proper Simpsons episode. It’s like some Simpsons writers met Musk at a TED talk, got smitten when they found out Musk was a fan, and turned an episode of the show over to him. Which would be less of a problem if the episode were well-thought-out and funny, Musk were an engaging comic presence, or the Simpsons themselves weren’t relegated to supporting status on their own show.
But yeah, the dude had a good racket going, I'll give him that much. He inserted himself into pop culture so that people saw him as a brilliant scientist, a media icon like Tony Stark and a hilarious meme lord who joked about science.
Tbh, I'm glad that Futurama's latest revival didn't air before the public started getting sick of him. I'm sure he would've found a way to barge into that one. "Haha I was on Futurama AND Ricky and Morty! I'm a sci-fi comedy god!!"

↳ 8 Shows To Get To Know Me
thank you @jyuubin for tagging me! sorry it took me a while to type this up.
i have decided to pick shows that i rewatch for comfort or keep me awake at night thinking about every little detail and emotion inside. here we go!
Bones (2005 - 2017) i grew up with this show and i just love temperance brennan with my entire life. i love the smithsonians i love booth and brennan i love i love i love and i rewatched s1-s3 sooooooo many times because iykyk it just kills me in the best way everytime.
Because This is My First Life (2017) my comfort feel good kdrama. i love how this drama focused on telling the stories of three women fighting for their dreams, and how every one of them had their own definition of happiness. oh i feel so much for the three of them and i love love love their love interests too. such a well-written show.
The Good Place (2016 - 2020) another comfort and feel good show. the good place is fun, intelligent, and most importantly, kind. it came out during a time when we all needed that reassurance: that things can be changed. things can be better. things SHOULD be better. WE should be better, and we CAN be. i'd even say it's another version of everything everywhere all at once's philosophy. it also has chidi anagonye, the love of my goddamn life.
First Kill (2022) if i were a zombie ♪ i'd never eat your brains ♪ a lesbian vampire x hunter show that got fucking cancelled by netflix bc netflix hates lesbians. i miss them sorely. this show was fun and intriguing, it has the right tone for teenage romance — dramatic and heart-wrenching. the cast is incredibly charming — gorgeous women from mothers to daughters and beautiful men too. talia burns you are everything.
Racket Boys (2021) coming-of-age sports kdrama. i had a visceral reaction to insol when he [redacted] and then i had a mini phase where i had intense brainrots over haesol ( haekang x insol ) which in retrospect is sorta like me with palmchopper. you get what i mean? i still love insol very much and i still have brainrots about them in fact i'm looking at my gifsets right now.
The Get Down (2016 - 2017) I WILL NEVER FORGIVE NETFLIX FOR CANCELLING THIS SHOW. the get down was about the bronx and the beginning of hip hop. ezekiel figuero and shaolin fantastic. mylene. dizzee kipling. i love them so much. so many iconic scenes and lines. justice smith has remained one of my fave actors since then.
Better Call Saul (2015 - 2022) i watched this show during the airing of its final season bc it was all on netflix and i did not expect how easily i grew attached. i watched breaking bad a long time ago and never thought too much of saul goodman the funny lawyer, so i didn't rush to watch bcs when it first aired. but damn how glad i am to have binged it when it delivered its finale too. incredibly tight-knit and immaculate in writing and filming. the details are so intricate it's almost impossible to pull off but they managed. it's quite heavy from time to time, and such a tragedy too. but that's the story. and it does get the ending it deserved. i can say it's the best written tv show i've seen with such a long run.
Scissor Seven (2018 - ) happy, feel good, comfort show. it's a chinese animated series with a lot of canto humour, which just hits home for a canto like me. it follows the regular shounen anime formula but with less self-importance. it's just about a guy who wants to live a good life with people he cares about on this island he calls home. well, with the past coming back for his life.
tagging anyone interested!

Mafia in the 1920s:
During the 1920s, the Mafia reached new heights. Prohibition enabled mobsters to make millions of dollars via selling illegal. Famous figures such as Al Capone, Charles Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, and John Dillinger aided the Mafia's rise to prominence. Making the notorious lives of the Mafia known to all Americans. The mafia was able to obtain the affluent lifestyle that they had was via ratifying the 18th amendment. Prohibition was the major money generator in the Mob. AL Capone alone made $60 million a year selling alcohol. Many other organised crooks with fine suits and flamboyant names populate the 1920s. The 20's most renowned gangsters were: "Scarface" Capone, "Lucky" Luciano, "Bugs" Moran (AKA Jack "Legs" Diamond), and "Dutch" Schultz. The names became "Pretty Boy" Floyd and "Babyface" Nelson in the 1930s, and "Bugsy" Siegal in the 1940s. einsteinerupload of. Along with his sharp outfit, every well-known criminal has a distinctive title. It has also been said that the gangster as perceived by the American public is a product of the media. In his excellent book Inventing the Public Enemy: The Gangster in American Culture, David E. Ruth speaks about 1920s gangsters dress. The implementation of prohibition in 1919 signalled a significant shift in the way gangsters conducted their daily business. It was no longer acceptable to hit someone over the head with a pipe in order to steal their pocket watch and stray coins. Instead, the mob structured and integrated itself throughout Chicago, Detroit, and New York City's boroughs.

"The latest styles marketed the gangster as an avid consumer who invested the time and expense necessary to stay on the leading edge of fashion . . . his new automobile, his tastefully furnished apartment, his diamond stickpin, his two diamond rings, his beltbuckle . . . fifty suits of clothes, his twenty five pairs of shoes."

Some make millions of dollars every year delivering beer and liquor to speakeasies around the country. By being feared and respected inside their communities the 1920s gangsters could earn a decent living from the public: strong-arming their areas for tiny but widespread price hikes for food and services, then skimming their earnings from the suppliers of these items. The gangster's position in urban culture was thus cemented, and the real criminal businessman was born. einsteinerupload of. Vito Corleone arrives in America with little money. He fights to make ends meet via legitimate jobs, pulls himself up by his bootstraps, gathers a criminal gang of devoted followers, and rises to fortune and power by his boldness, cunning, organisation, and hard work. In the 1920s gangsters were the American symbols of the self-made-man. Expanding their organisations into unlawful markets, mainly racketeering, bootlegging, and prostitution, these gangsters live life by their own dark yet rigid code of ethics, but outside of the iron grasp of the law. The public's awareness of 1920s gangster dress owes largely to prohibition and the newspaper media's love affair with these criminal media darlings. The modern "gangster" continues to be the ultimate consumer of all things opulent and costly. Jewelery, clothes, vehicles, and mansions are the rewards of the criminal businessman's lifestyle.
