• Quirrel telling Hornet stories about the lands outside Hallownest and teaching her more about the world outside. And Hornet telling Quirrel stories of Hallownest and helping him to remember his old home.

• The two of them practice sparing with each other And of course Quirrel teases Hornet about the first time they met.

• Hornet easily relaxing around Quirrel but being upset about it later, after she's realized.

• Quirrel writing about her and sketching pictures of her. (He just finds her so intriguing!)

• Hornet loves dancing, she learned how to dance in the hive and she feels so relaxed and free when she does it. Quirrel would absolutely enjoy dancing with her, and learning from her. And he's a quick learner!

• Quirrel and Hornet doing tasks together and Quirrel gets so easily distracted. Hornet keeps him focused and he helps her to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

• Both of them love water, and swim very well. They spend lots of time at the blue lake, or dancing in the rain in the city.

• Hornet making Quirrel silk bandanas, he loves to wear.

• The two of them visiting the dreamers memorial in the resting grounds. Placing flowers by their stone.

• Herrah and Monomon watching over them, absolutely adoring how close the two have become.

Ao3 got me hooked on Quirrelnet, and I decided that this is definitely how their dynamic goes.

In your fic "Lost Kin", are Hornet and Quirrel an eventual ship? No judgement, I've just never thought abt them as a romantic pairing (the mlm quirrel fics found me before Lost Kin did so I've only seen him as mlm in my mind until now) and it's gonna be Hella fun to see their thoughts on the matter as their relationship progresses!

The short answer is: maybe? I've had some relationship headcanons in mind for a while now, and these two idiots won't stop coming up with cute banter that I can't resist writing down. I'm aware that Quirrelnet isn't a popular ship for various reasons, though, so audience reception will likely play a part.

There's also a possibility that when I get to the actual scenes I have in mind, they won't work out the way I think they will, so that's another reason I've been staying relatively quiet about it. This is a fairly common occurrence in the writing process for me, so I prefer to let things play out naturally rather than committing myself to a particular direction before I'm sure it'll work.

I appreciate the encouraging tone of this ask very much, though! It's nice to hear that at least one person is open to me exploring this relationship, despite all the fandom baggage that could come with it.

There's two! Quirrelnet and Grimmnet. I mostly am a Lacenet shipper because I am a sucker for enemies-to-lovers, but Quirrelnet has potential to be cute written well, and I blame Lost Kin for making me invested in their interactions.

Grimmnet is because my brain latched onto the idea of, post-THK or Dream No More ending, her having no one, being utterly alone and depressed, and him being uniquely qualified to help her get through her grief, not as a long-term thing but as people just helping one another heal, with her in turn helping finish the Ritual for him. Not everything has to be permanent, and I think a lot of fandom ignores that. I enjoy the idea of them having rapier wit to each other but also being on even footing. I've read very few fics that explore this, though, most seem to just go either the "make him evil and she wins him over" route or they make them both too damn nice which is like. Nah. Let them be the judgy bitches in the back corner of the room that they were Destined To Be.

Hornet x Quirrel Headcannons?

They probably originally met when they were both still kids. Granted, they wouldn't really remember each other, but it would give a sense of familiarity.

They probably *officially* met after Ghost came to Hornet, panicking. They thought Quirrel had drowned in the Blue Lake. Hornet came to see for herself.. only to see Quirrel climbing out of the water. Hornet gave Quirrel a good wack over the head for scaring her sibling.

She was bitter for a while- that really wasn't the best way to meet someone- but eventually, without the stress of the infection, she relaxed enough to just.. talk to him.

She was surprised to find out that he was kind, and patient. She'd made a lot of assumptions, only for them to all be proven wrong. Over time, they even became friends, with Quirrel helping Hornet to just.. live for her own sake.

He greatly admired her, even if he often worried. She was a skilled fighter, but she never let her guard down. It must've been awful to live like this. Little did he know, he was slowly chipping away at that guard just by being so nice all the time.

Admiration turned over time to adoration, and mutual pining was a thing for a long long long time.

Quirrel probably confessed by accident, and Hornet needed some time to think, but she did eventually realize the feeling was mutual. Even if she was cautious, the two started officially dating.

Here's another guard to let down. Have fun, Quirrel!
