After sitting on my shelf for almost a year, I’m finally adding the binding onto the #jessetreequilt - finally! I’m going with a scrappy purple border, as I wanted to carry the look of Advent through in another way. By bringing the various tones of purple as a border, that light penitent feel is brought through the edging. I love it. Got a quickie little alterations commission to fix a quilt, so I decided to use that opportunity to do a mini tutorial! Today's Demo: Edge binding! There are multiple ways to do this, but this is my personal favorite method! Any sort of binding will do, so long as it's double folded. In my demo here is quilt binding, but my most commonly used is extra wide double fold. Step One: Unfold the slightly thinner side and pin to the top of your project. Leave a little extra on either end for later. Step Two: Stitch along the fold. Step Three: Fold in half inside out, along the second fold line(middle). Stitch as close to the edge as possible on both ends. Step Four: Turn it right side out again and either slipstitch(right in the seam so it's "invisible" or stitch like shown. And that's it! I think I might do more of these mini tutorials as I work on various projects in the future. IGQuiltFest 2021- Day 4. The prompt is creative hands. I really like binding my quilts by hand. (I know I just used a 4 letter word, sorry) I find the rhythm of it to be relaxing. A huge thank you (THANK YOU!) to everyone who shared their machine binding tips yesterday - you all are amazing! I was able to bind the quilt in honestly about ten minutes...something that would have taken me *hours* by hand. I learned a lot along the way - equal parts what to do and not to do, so am already looking forward to the opportunity to try this again with everything learned along the way. Sharing a fun action shot of little man (and puppy Diego) helping me stage the quilt for a photo with the new binding. I'm standing on the kitchen table as they set it up - it's so big, I can't photograph it any other way! The photos are for @sewingmachinesplusdotcom as they're having their quilt show in a few weeks, and I'm going to enter this one. It's not one of the more detailed ones I've made, but I love how brilliant the colors radiate (*and* that new red binding - ha!). So what do you think? For #igquiltfest prompt #bindings, I think a quilt binding can really frame a piece. Here, for my #Heartbeatquilt I used a rainbow stripe that perfectly reflected the colors in the quilt, but also my inspiration for making it which was to send a message of love. For my #pepperminttwistquilt, the red and white striped binding also reflected my inspiration for the quilt, which was peppermint candies! The stripe was printed on the bias, which meant that I could get the bias look without the hassle of stretchy bias. Now I always look for stripe fabric printed on the bias because it's worth its wait in gold! #inquiringquilter @amyscreativeside #quiltbinding #biasbinding
