Bour was just like casually bringing BATB into things as an Easter egg #since it was his first job in animation #and like don't get me wrong; I LOVE that he did this. I just don't know how he expected anyone (i.e. me) to be normal about it afterwards #once you've introduced BATB; it ceases to be a fun and casual reference and just makes the literature major girlies go feral #i thought this was gonna be a quick and easy little project but it wasn't #the parallels are all there but they're in slightly different order in EoA than the original and the pacing for each reference is differen #so i had to determine which ones I needed to skip frames for and which ones to use all the frames #and then try to figure out the speed from there #the coronation day scenes were very hard to color because the grey skies and muted filter kind of whitewash the characters #like you don't even understand i added so MUCH vibrance and saturation to the 4th and 5th gifs but elena's skin still is just gray #and the coloring is still just a very very mixed bag #also i've realized that while I don't think it was an intentional reference in the same way BATB was #anna's sacrifice and resurrection from frozen is perhaps just as --if not more-- a clear parallel to the coronation day scene than BATB #so maybe I will do that one someday too?#once i psych myself up again to try coloring coronation day again #which i imagine will be awhile #these do not look like the same scene and pretty much the same scene at all even if i tried to use the same psd when i could #and edit them to make the coloring as close as i could

I'm crocheting a granny square holiday stocking in May because why not.

The pattern calls for 27 granny squares. I run out of the holiday yarn I'm using on square 26. I scour the internet for hours looking for this unlabeled yarn and find it but fml it's been discontinued for over a decade. So I look up other granny square stocking patterns. I find one that not only looks better and isn't so comically huge, but also requires only 15 granny squares.

Was this way too much effort for a small project? Maybe, but I refuse to be bested by a stocking.

I got some spikes (for the flower crown monster’s vest) and of course I had to test them out and make myself a spiky bracelet! It turns out it’s difficult to take a photo of a bracelet on your own wrist though so here’s a picture of Jellybean wearing it

#'i hate my art style' -> HAH. there is no style in origami there r only fixed directions #'i struggle with long-term projects' -> a crane is super quick and easy to make and if u get pretty paper it looks like a decorative piece #'i dont want to think too much' -> after the initial cost of watching a tutorial the rest becomes muscle memory for certain designs #'it's too difficult' -> there are varying levels of complexity in designs online and u can easily find simple pieces that still look pretty #and lastly #people find little paper craft gifts adorable #and u get the dopamine hit of 'i made a thing' with a comparably low input cost #this is coming from the bitch who cant draw or write without nearly screaming from how much she hates her lack of skill #origami is accessible to my piece of shit meanie brain

Hi everyone please be mildly disappointed in me for starting the fabric cutting on my quilted scarf gift project at 2:45 AM, but everyone be proud of me for realizing at 3:45 AM that it was an insane choice and that I should be satisfied with my progress and go the fuck to sleep instead of staying up til 6 am and making a fuckton of cutting mistakes.

(my guy is me here)#I did 1/3rd of the background cutting in about an hour #so the background alone would have taken me til almost 6 am #nd then the accent cutting would likely take the same amount just given the pieces involved #that said it’s nice to know a calculation for how long I’ll be putting into this #usually I enter ADHD mode for however long and have no fucking clue how long I’ve worked #now I know: cutting on this specific project is equivalent to about 5-6 hours of working undistracted but kinda slowly #I imagine piecing won’t take too long if I do my prep work right #the prep work itself will probably be an hour including toying around with the design #and the quilting will be verrrry quick but I SHOULD do a practice block bc I’m working with minky fabric for the first time

Aw, anon this is incredibly sweet. I sent your message along to the others before I got around to this answer both because I wanted to make sure they saw it, and because I wanted to respond to this in a way that really reflects my gratitude.

It's honestly so tempting to start making ideas "a thing". I didn't really understand that until the last couple of years and let me tell you, there is a lot of pressure to do that. People like projects! They like updates! They love seeing the progression of a story and getting invested in that. I absolutely understand why people leave comments like "this should be a webtoon" or "you guys should make an animated series". In a perfect world, that'd be a dream! The temptation to do that and establish a base is also attractive because it can really form a base that gives numbers and comments, which artists of all stripes thrive on (myself very much included).

But what most people never really see is the downsides of that. From their perspective, a one episode animatic, a chapter or two of fic or few panels of a comic, isn't a lot. It's kinda disappointing, and I get that. For the creator though, there's any number of reasons that things fall apart. Personal differences with friends amplified by the stress of expectations. Creative burnout. Shutting down due to the sheer scope of the undertaking. These are all real, and it sucks to deal with.

For me personally, I know I do want to tackle trying to write more of ocean idiots, maybe even try to nanowrimo this shit (not in an actual month but you get the gist). But that's just me. If it bums me out or I put it to the side, then that's just my personal project to pick up later. If we tried to make it a series, then we'd deal with the stress of trying to keep up a schedule on top of lives (college, jobs, personal lives, etc). It'd take the joy out of these characters we love.

Some of the most fun I've had in the past few years I've been writing and creating has just been fucking around with my friends. Throwing silly au ideas back and forth and exchanging art and fics for no one but ourselves. There's a genuine satisfaction that comes from it.

Not everything has to be a big production. Artists don't make their magnum opus every time. They draw shitposts and write crackfic and make funny edits. It's healing to have something silly, something fun just for you, and to share it if you want. That can connect with people, great! But it can also just be for you. I could go on a whole tangent about social media and the commodification of attention/art but that's not really what we're here for.

I hope that whatever you create, anon, that it makes you happy. That it brings a little joy to your day. That you can have that thing you share with maybe just your closest friends to play with. Lord knows I need to remind myself of that too.
