Hilda and Jo: Together Again
(aka another fanfic idea i had even though i should be working on erikafolk)
Tumblr media
"Everything's changed, hasn't it?"
"Yes. But it's the way of the world for things to change. It wasn't for nothing. We'll always have our memories of this place."
"But that's all it is! Memories. Our house is gone. The mountain's gone. Our life here's gone. And now... Now you're gone too."
...
Rewatching the episode "Together Again" in Adventure Time: Distant Lands and finding out about the scrapped storyline for Hilda E2E8 "The Fifty-Year Night," I had a tearjerking idea for a Hilda fanfic.
Johanna dies during Hilda's late teens. What caused her death? Who knows! One thing is certain though: Hilda will never see life the same way again.
Sure, she still was the same fearless, adventure-loving girl; but her motivations for her love for adventures changed. She kept adventuring more than ever in order to distract herself from having the time to even think about Johanna. She still had David, Frida, Alfur, Twig, and all of her wonderful friends, but often she wonders how long will she live for until she dies and gets to join her mother.
It didn't help that Johanna's body disappeared. Her own daughter couldn't even meet her as a ghost.
More information:
In her adult life, Hilda became a naturalist and explorer, authoring several books about her exploits around the world. She's becoming to come to terms with her mother's death. She thought, this is what Johanna would want her to do.
Until one day, she discovered strange, magical creatures, "Skuggers" she called them. Bearing a striking resemblance to a certain fae entity, these creatures have immensely powerful illusion magic. Also a very peculiar oddity with them: they're always sighted with seemingly random individuals who just died. Hilda found out the pattern: Skuggers always look for the remains of fairy-human hybrids. Just when Hilda was getting over Johanna, she saw this as an opportunity to finally get closure about her mother's whereabouts.
She said goodbye to her friends and acquiantances back in Trolberg, only bringing Twig along for her quest to find out more about Skuggers. Although, all her attempts failed because, well, hard to fool a being capable of supernaturally fooling your very senses. After weeks of failure, she was gonna head back to Trolberg when she finally spotted a Skugger, not too far from the wall, bringing a bag of bones; it seemed like it was going somewhere. Hilda and Twig followed it discreetly and discovered a fairy circle in the mountains that was hidden by the Skuggers' magic. Unfortunately, at this point, they were found out and the Skugger sprinted along the mountainside, with Hilda and Twig chasing it. Who did those bones belong to? It seemed like she was finally gonna figure out where they stash all those fairy-hybrid remains. She's gonna see her mother again.
And then she fell.
Very high.
She landed with a thud.
And then she died.
In her final moments, she saw shadowy silhouttes, and then a very strange, colorful, yet familiar environment, before blacking out.
.
.
.
Years has passed. Hilda rose up from the ground and saw that she was transparent and skeletal. She was a ghost! Her tombstone was even there! She thought she was buried at St. Guglows, but a quick turnaround revealed gigantic mushrooms, jade-colored rocks, and a flock of white woffs in the air. She was in Fairy Country!
Turns out, Phinium and Lydia saw Hilda dying and "abducted" her with the watchtower, but it was too late to save her. They hid her body in a very remote place in the isle, where no one but them could find it.
Hilda saw that the entire island is in darkness. Shouldn't the sun never set in Fairy Country? To be honest, she also didn't expect a lot of jury-rigged radiotowers, skyscrapers, and roads. What happened to the fairies?
Yeah, Fairy Country as we know it has been transformed by years of mad science and old magic, thanks to Victoria Van Gale. She assumes de facto control over all of Fairy Country and dubbed them the territory of the "Republic of Van Galea". The Skuggers were her personal inventions, meant to exploit the island's properties where what you see is what people want to believe they are.
Those remains? Skuggers use the ghostly forms of fairy-human hybrids in order to power their illusion magic. They're locked up somewhere in the watchtowers.
Try guessing who else is a certain half-fairy ghost there... ;)
And you know how Hilda reacted to all of this? The fact she died prematurely, the fact that her friends thought of her as missing for years, the fact that Victoria Van Gale has messed up the Fairy Isles beyond belief?
She simply lit up with joy and thought, "I get to see Mum again!"
:D
(The burden of those questions will come to her later).

I heard some people talking about Cyberpunk 2077 and it was something about how they don’t like the futility in the main character’s actions. They don’t like that V isn’t able to take down the Arasaka corporation, like they don’t “win” in the end. But I think they’re missing the point. Every day, in real life, people face inevitability and recognize the futility in much of the things they do. It can be despair-inducing, which is why they seek fantastical media to escape those feelings-- even I do this. But there’s something so unique in how the cyberpunk genre utilizes the themes of inevitability and futility that I find comforting, because it reflects reality.
Fantasy usually makes it a priority to point at you, the main character, and how special you are-- you can obtain any power, defeat any evil, do anything-- but cyberpunk isn’t like that. Much like how you can’t just take up arms and “defeat” a corporation in real life, you can’t do that in cyberpunk. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a team of ten solos to strike at Arasaka, or a thousand-man paramilitary organization to attack Disney. In either situation, in contrast with your own allies, the enemy has so many employees, assets, studios, offices, accounts, and investments (all international) that they have comparatively infinite resources. You can’t change the world just by finishing a quest line.
People have these fantasies of “if society was different, then I could be happy”, but that’s ignorant: It takes all responsibility for your own happiness off of your shoulders, and puts it on someone else’s. Like Johnny Silverhand, these people put the onus on the rest of society to rise up and make change, making the empty promise that after such a time they would finally look within themselves and be satisfied. Even if some of these corporations did die out, it wouldn’t change much of our lives at all. You might take some schadenfreude in seeing Nestle go bankrupt (I know I would), but it wouldn’t make a meaningful difference in your life. You’d have the same job, drive the same car, or ride the same bus or bike, have to pay the same bills, etc. So in cyberpunk, “revolution” isn’t the answer. You know what is?
Managing expectations and setting reasonable goals. It sounds corny, I know, but think about the endings you can get in cyberpunk. Despite Arasaka surviving the end of the Relic program, V can still live on in happiness if you choose the All Along the Watchtower or Path of Glory endings. In the All Along the Watchtower ending, you leave the life of the merc behind and go out and join the Aldecaldos family. You still have some struggles, but you have a new “family” to help get you through, and you’ll never want for close friends again. In the Path of Glory ending, you live in luxury as the owner of the Afterlife, and you continue merc-work to amass more wealth and resources. Of course, this one is only reasonable in cyberpunk, where you can make an easy 15k a day doing odd jobs around town, but I feel like that helps feed into my point that you don’t need to defeat a relatively-infinite perceived evil to live in comfort.
Besides all that, it was never V’s goal to bankrupt Arasaka-- that’s Johnny’s goal. V’s goal was always to survive, get famous, and get rich. Through the events of the game, that much is certainly attainable-- no nationwide revolution required.
Edited to correct the names of the endings.

When does Ralof find out he's the dragonborn? At Helgen? Which faction does he side with, or is it neither? Does he have friends/companions? What are their relationships and how did they meet?
I love you Fuzzy <3
So there's a lot to go over. Ralof (and by extension Hadvar as he's along for the ride in this au) finds out he's the dragonborn in the usual in-game way, which is when he fights the dragon at the Western Watchtower. However, unlike in the game, Ralof isn't able to use his Thu'um yet, he just knows that he absorbed some kind of energy from the dead dragon. He finally believes that he's the Dragonborn when he goes to High Hrothgar and the Greybeards confirm it. Much to Hadvar's dismay...
Shock of all shocks, Ralof actually ends up joining the Empire. It's a very long story for that one. But it's mostly decided based on several quests in-game, how Ulfric STILL wants Markarth in Silverblood hands despite knowing what the Silverbloods did to Ralof in Cidhna Mines, the way Ulfric reacted to the Dossiers Ralof found in the Thalmor Embassy, and this thing I headcanon regarding Dragons and Dragonborn which Ralof comes to fully understand after a philisophical talk with Paarthurnax. Basically, Ralof came to the conclusion that, in the end, the Empire truly are the lesser of two evils and that Ulfric wouldn't be able to make a good High King. This decision actually comes to emotionally haunt Ralof for a long time, for several reasons (One of which being that Ulfric and him were kind of a thing...).
Funny enough, I tried my damnest to feasibly put Hadvar into this AU as a pseudo companion. Hadvar in the beginning was trying to capture Ralof, ended up being dragged into helping Ralof, until after the Greybeards confirmed that Ralof is, in fact, the Dragonborn. And at that point Hadvar pisses off for a while. His journey thru this au is also all over the place and wild. He eventually has to quit the Legion (they're trying to arrest him for desertion and treason for helping Ralof) and he ends up becoming a Companion. Which, then he ends up turning into a werewolf... because of course. I said it was wild. Of course, eventually, Hadvar and Ralof meet back up and they sorta kinda start this whirlwind romance cause oh no they realize their feelings for each other yadayada. Ya know, the usual 50k slow-burn plot you'd expect.
There's... there's a lot going on in this au...

Are You Experienced (1967), Axis: Bold as Love (1967), Electric Ladyland (1968), The Cry of Love (1971), The Jimi Hendrix Experience / Jimi Hendrix
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimi Hendrix’s stratospheric guitar skills are inescapably obvious, the scale of his experimentation is exceptionally plain to see, his attention to composition is wildly detailed, his singing qualities are critically sorely underrated and his legacy is entirely incalculable – but I’ve never managed to enjoy his music beyond its technical quality and historical importance. In the hunt for emotional attachment, in the quest for music I can get addicted to and submerse myself in, he hasn’t really managed to truly satisfy.
Pick(s): ‘Are You Experienced?’, ‘Little Wing’, ‘All Along the Watchtower’, ‘Freedom’

‘’Creating Watchtower of China was a labour of love. I say labour because we, meaning my crew and I, throughout three consecutive summers, visited over seventy cities and travelled countless thousands of kilometers. Everywhere we went, we found ourselves channelling the powerful energy of this great land to find the strength and inspiration to continue our quest along what became life-changing for all of us. When we initially gathered together we were a film crew. By the time we were done, three years later, we had become a family. I say love, because what we have created is more than just a film. It is a declaration of our love for this Country. When I set out on this project I wanted to create a visual tribute to China - an honest observation of daily life. Not a surface travelog, but a real and raw representation of the cultural history. An honoring of Chinese culture, identity, and the complex and varied way of living that spans the enormity of the Chinese territory. A window on the dedication and discipline, the craftsmanship and hard work of the Chinese people. They have an energy of moving forward together as they draw power and inspiration from a culture that looks back over thousands of years, yet rushes fearlessly towards a bold future. I started to feel this intense energy, as though this cultural pride and determination were now moving through me and my camera. The experience of this film buried itself so deeply within me that I can still feel the hard day’s work in my muscles. It couldn’t have come together without the help of my dear friends, especially Jolien Snyers and Ricky Choy (did you spot Ricky in the film? She’s in multiple shots and sings in the very last taxi shot!) It is one of my proudest accomplishments. I hope you love it. ‘’

Film Review - Green Lantern: Beware My Power
Our look into the films of 2022 now steps away from cinema releases to explore the animated direct-to-home-release market.  More specifically, we’re checking out the fifth instalment in DC’s Tomorrowverse continuity, or as it’s better known, Green Lantern: Beware My Power…
Plot (as adapted from Wikipedia):
Former US Marine and Medal of Honor recipient John Stewart, struggling with civilian life after the military, witnesses a spaceship crash nearby. The occupant, one of the Guardians of the Universe, dies of his injuries, and the Power Ring he carries, previously owned by Hal Jordan, attaches itself to Stewart's finger. The ring flies Stewart up to the Justice League Watchtower, where he meets Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and Vixen. With the Guardians of the Universe unresponsive and Jordan's apparent death, Stewart and Green Arrow use Ganthet's repaired ship to travel to Oa, which they discover in ruins and the Green Lantern Corps slaughtered. They also encounter Thanagarian warrior Shayera Hol, who indicates security footage showing a Rannian ship docking at Oa just before the attack.
Shayera explains that the Thanagarian-Rannian war had briefly ended, with Jordan overseeing a joint project using Zeta-Beam technology to benefit both planets. The experiment went haywire, transporting Thanagar into Rann's atmosphere, upsetting the ecosystem of both planets, restarting the war, and apparently killing Jordan and thousands of Thanagarians and Rannians. Shayera accuses Rann of sabotaging the experiment and attacking Oa, but Stewart and Green Arrow insist they investigate further.
The team travels to a Rannian military outpost that was raided by Thanagarians, where they encounter Rannian hero Adam Strange, presumed deceased but teleported at random by Zeta-Beams' attraction to him. Strange denies that Rann attacked Oa and leads them to Rannian forces, engaged in a battle with Thanagarian forces. Rannian Captain Kantus reveals that Rannian scientist Sardath has converted the Zeta-Beam project into a doomsday weapon to destroy Thanagar, the location of which is known only to the Rannian High Command. Shayera and Strange review footage from past attacks and discover that a third party has been impersonating both Rannian and Thanagarian ships to further the war.
Retracing the trajectories of the imposter ships, the team discovers a base hidden inside an asteroid, where they battle the Yellow Lanterns, along with a group of galactic assassins including Lord Damyn, Kanjar Ro and Despero, before being captured by their leader Sinestro. Jordan is revealed to be alive, having released his ring and been taken prisoner after Sinestro sabotaged the Zeta-Beam experiment. They escape as Sinestro and his Lanterns attack Rann to find the location of Sardath's doomsday weapon. Using the Zeta-Beams, Sardath teleports them to his secret base, but Sinestro and his Lanterns follow and attack. During the battle, Stewart reluctantly kills Sinestro and Jordan brutally kills two of Sinestro's assassins leaving Green Arrow and John Stewart suspicious of his actions.
After obtaining the Zeta-Beam data, Jordan suddenly kills Sardath; he reveals that, when he was captured, Sinestro had infected him with the Parallax Entity, corrupting him. After Sinestro had destroyed the Green Lanterns, Jordan had claimed all their rings for himself, enhancing his power to a godlike state. With the Zeta-Beam technology, Jordan intends to destroy both Rann and Thanagar in a quest to end conflict across the galaxy.
Stewart and Jordan battle until Green Arrow is forced to shoot and kill Jordan. They are unable to stop the weapon from firing, but Strange flies in the path of the Zeta-Beam, teleporting it and himself to parts unknown. Stewart and Green Arrow return to Earth, and Stewart sends Jordan's rings to their new wearers to rebuild the Green Lantern Corps. Shayera departs from Earth, in Ganthet's spaceship, promising to Green Arrow and Stewart they would meet again soon knowing Rann and Thanagar will need the new Green Lantern Corps to help rebuild both worlds when a ceasefire is ordered. Stewart proposes dinner and a toast to "absent friends" to Green Arrow, to which he replies "and maybe a few new ones".
Review:
For me, the Tomorrowverse continuity started off well but not brilliantly on Superman: Man of Tomorrow with a 7/10, then improved to 9/10 on Justice Society: World War II before hitting top marks with the two films that comprise an adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween.  Now we get a fifth film centring on Green Lantern, or more specifically John Stewart, one of two humans added to GL lore in the so-called “bronze age” of comics that runs throughout the 70’s and 80’s at a rough guess.  John Stewart is one of the earliest Black superheroes in the DC universe, and while he’s had a lot of screentime thanks to his use in DC’s Justice League and Justice League Unlimited shows of the early 2000’s, he’s not been as utilised in any film productions, with most home-release animated films favouring the use of Hal Jordan as the main Green Lantern for Earth.
Given this, one might think this film would be a welcome change of pace, and for people coming to it without much comics knowledge, it probably is.  Regardless of whether you have that knowledge or not, the film is well-animated, well-acted and has a decent plot, albeit heavily packed with characters some people may lack a wider awareness of.  This is an on-going issue with DC animated films, and indeed with superhero films as a whole now; failing to provide sufficient exposition for less well-versed audiences to pick up all the references to hand.  One can only hope that as Marvel completes its Multiverse saga in the MCU and James Gunn reboots DC’s live-action film continuity, they start to learn this and better inform new audiences about key information.
Going back to the other issue I mentioned, let’s consider why this John Stewart-centric film might not be favoured by people who know the source material.  Of the two plot threads being used from the comics, one is the story of Hal Jordan’s downfall into villainy that destroyed the Green Lantern Corps back in the 1990’s.  Now in the comics, John Stewart and Guy Gardner had already been Green Lanterns alongside Hal for years by this point, so the original story didn’t involve either of them taking over as sole remaining Green Lantern.  Instead, it was freelance artist Kyle Rayner who fulfilled that role, with John appearing during Kyle’s tenure initially as a kind of mentor figure, then later returning to the GL role when Kyle needed to leave Earth.  Eventually, after Hal was resurrected and redeemed, he, Guy, John and Kyle were all GLs together.
What this means is that this film, while trying to tout DC’s diversity credentials by putting John Stewart in the spotlight, isn’t giving us a story that is truly John Stewart’s own story.  It’s taking stories that focused on other Green Lanterns and putting him in their shoes, and this is where a lot of superhero storytelling that touts equality and diversity falls down at the moment.  Yes, you’ve got a Black man wearing the GL ring and uniform, and you’ve got his prior backstory of being in the US Marine corps, but then he’s basically just slotting into other adventures that were had by other GLs originally.  Why not adapt stories that heavily featured John in the comics, or give him a new and original story unique to him?  Alternatively, John Stewart had five seasons of animated screentime in the DCAU and guest appearances in the DCAMU, whereas Kyle Rayner has only had two guest appearances and one non-appearance mention in the DCAU.  If they wanted to use the Parallax story arc, why not use Kyle Rayner since he was actually part of that story?
The fact that Hawkgirl shows up in the film is a nice nod back to John Stewart’s DCAU incarnation, and the reference will help fans of those animated shows accept the various departures from source material, but for me, it spoils things a little to have John Stewart headline an adaptation of stories that belong to other Green Lanterns.  I can only hope that once the currently unfolding Crisis on Infinite Earths film trilogy concludes the Tomorrowverse, the Parallax storyline can be re-adapted in a more comics-accurate way while John Stewart gets to headline stories that his and his alone.  Overall, I give this film 6 out of 10.

Catz Shenanigans™️ : 7 Days to Die Addition
in no particular order of events......
-we all spawned like 2km from each other and just all started running in Gham's general direction. our first few nights were spent in a garage. Xero built a little platform in front of it and that's where we spent our first blood moon. ...24 hours early. we thought it would trigger as soon as Day 7 started at midnight, so we were up in the tower with our little starter weapons, then realized we were early ajsdl;kjd. we were Very aware of the actual blood moon the night of the 7th day
-the server was originally set so friendly fire was off. it somehow got turned back on and. uh. Dusty and I were out questing when we discovered that. I ran up to kill a spitter with my sledgehammer, then suddenly got one-shot. I thought the spitter blew up and killed me - buuuut it turned out Dusty shotgunned me in the face. whoops. (we wanted it turned back off at first, but it's actually a pretty fun challenge to try not to kill each other during fights)
-I've kinda ended up the "pick up the newbies" person. so I shove a minibike in my inventory because we've got a lot of them and take off on a motorcycle. it's kinda funny watching the minibike putter along behind
-"THE BIRDS SPIT NOW?????!!!"
-
Glelk: "uuuuhh I'm infected what do I do"
Dusty: "you're still low-level, probably easier to die than waste antibiotics 'cause you won't have the XP penalty yet"
Me: "...can I sledgehammer him"
*cue Glelk flying straight up in the air from a one-shot hammer to the face while Gham and I bust out laughing*
-
-Questing in what we've been calling the mine, but it's obviously some sort of research bunker. Dusty went to kill something, then immediately died. Glelk had accidentally shot him instead of the zombie in front of him
-tbh lots of accidental friendly fire that sends people a km away
-my sworn enemy: heavy hatch trapdoors. I have So much trouble getting up around them when they're above a ladder and have had many a sprained/broken leg from falling off ladders trying to get up top of bunkers
-"there's spikes outside the pit now be careful ...... ow" "did you just walk into spikes YOU placed???"
-"KILLER BIRDS" "I SEE THEM" *furious squawking* *lots of gunshots*
-revenge killings for accidental friendly fire. Gham and Dusty are the main culprits of this one
-
Dusty and I just standing in the garage half AFK. I look at him, look at my hotbar, equip a hammer, smack him in the face with it and run off
Dusty: "did you just punch me????" *chases me down and punches me like four times while cackling*
-
Bone: *using a nailgun to upgrade blocks*
Me: "shoot me"
Bone: *NO HESITATION NAILGUN TO THE FACE*
Me: "...ow."
Bone: *goes back to upgrading like it didn't happen* *pauses* *SPRINTS over to Dusty to also shoot him in the face with it*
-
Most recent blood moon: we built a second watchtower on the opposite corner from the first one. That's where I was most of the attack
...until I fell off and landed in the spike pit that is our trench
broken leg, no way out, close to dead, and zombies were still pouring in. they started beelining right for me
only to....kill themselves on spikes in an attempt to get to me, and those that didn't die to spikes got a magnum to the face
I lasted WAY longer than I had any right to (including MULTIPLE bikers, military, spitters, demolitionists, and irradiated zombies) before a biker finally managed to reach me while I was reloading ajksdl;asjdlk
-
*Dusty and I trying to figure out how to kill zombies from the watchtower when they're at the garage doors under the platform*
Dusty: *places a block frame* *tests to make sure you can't fall through it* *tests to make sure you can still shoot through it*
Dusty: "okay... can we throw an explosive through?" *immediately sets himself on fire with a molatov while I back away*
Dusty: "hmmm...." *tries again and sets himself on fire AGAIN* "ok can't throw things through it good to know"
-
Me: "I bought grenades from the trader" :D
The rest of the group: "..."
-
Gham: *swinging a flaming machete to kill things*
Me: *gets clipped and start bleed as well as set on fire* *panic-swings at the nearest zombie*
Gham: *takes a sledgehammer to the face (collateral damage oops)*
Both: *run tf out of there as I guzzle water to put myself out and juggle bandages so I don't bleed to death*
-
Dusty and I were looking for blue block things that give cobble when harvested, so started snooping around a construction site
found lots of cobble
...then discovered a cave under the site
without a second thought we both bolted forward to explore it, totally ignoring the dozen or so mangled corpses leading farther in
..only to immediately shriek and run the other way as a zombie bear chased us
Me: "run through that door it won't reach us!!"
Bear: *gets stuck in doorway so we can safely kill it*
Me: "btw I had no idea that would actually work"
Dusty: "..."
-
Went out hunting big game with Dusty and Shiba since I'm the main hunter/food prepper of our group but wanted to go after bigger things like bears to get more meat since we were low on food but doing so alone can be incredibly dangerous
Dusty: *kills a mountain lion* "got a bobcat for ya!"
Me: "...bobcat?????"
Dusty: "Just passed a bobcat"
Me: "couger"
Dusty: "there's another bobcat ahead"
Me: *sobbing* "it's not a bobcat"
Me: "Just killed another bobcat. .....GODDAMMIT DUSTY"
Dusty: *cackles*
-
"Where'd Gham go??"
*muffled shooting from across the street*
"ah there she is"
-
there was a video store next to the firehouse that zombies kept somehow getting on the roof of and jumping over our wall from
Dusty got sick of it, grabbed his auger, and collapsed the entire building. I was his watchdog so I could yell at him to get out when it started collapsing over him lmfao
we've been calling it the last blockbuster, and now we're gonna use the plot where it once stood as a greenhouse ajksdl;ajsk
-
*cackling as we purposefully run over zombies with our motorcycles*
-
Dusty: *AFKs in the doorway to the armory*
Me: *can't get past him to get into the room bc of collision* "Let me innnnnnnnn" 😭
Gham: "...I has idea" *murders Dusty* "armory's open!" :D
Dusty, short while later: "how did I die???"
Gham: "you deserved it!!"
Dusty: *sets out on revenge*
-
Dusty and I practically yelling while mining and continuing to repeat ourselves to each other because the augers are so damn loud
we probably sounded ridiculous to the rest of the group aksdl;jaslkd

Watchtower of China from Leonardo Dalessandri on Vimeo.
Creating Watchtower of China was a labour of love.
She’s in multiple shots and sings in the very last taxi shot!)
It is one of my proudest accomplishments. I hope you love it.
