The ruby-red ray florets of Echinacea purpurea 'Rubinstern' (purple coneflower) spread horizontally from the brown central cone. This upright perennial is a reliable cultivar that thrives in a deep, well-drained, humus-rich soil in full sun although but they can tolerate some shade.

Set this girl free earlier today on some purple cone flowers to stretch her wings and take to the skies when ready. (Yes this is a female) Found the Monarch caterpillar one day among some weeds and rescued it. It munched on some milkweed before going into its chrysalis form just two days after rescuing. Happy I found her when I did and gave her a safer environment to take form in, especially since Monarchs are become endangered now sadly. Taken the same day as the previous post, this was a purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). They are native to the eastern half of North America wherever there is dry open woods, prairies, and barrens. They bloom from summer into autumn with purple flowers as shown here.
