Now that I’ve determined the rescue organization I’ve contacted won’t be able to help, I no longer have to be quiet about the case.
I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY FUCKING POWER TO GET THAT PUPPY MILL SHUT DOWN.
I’m absolutely devastated. When I made my post earlier, we didn’t know exactly why Bella was sick. Now we do.
She has giardia, an infection caused by unsanitary living situations and contaminated water. The “kennel” was fucking disgusting. She also tested positive for parvo. The vet is hoping it’s a false positive from the giardia. The next 24 hours will let us know.
Bella more than likely won’t make it. I’m devastated and angry and heartbroken and absolutely pissed that there’s still 75+ dogs there.
I’m going to start contacting law enforcement agencies and if that’s a dead end, news channels. I don’t know what else to do. If you know of any organizations or animal rights groups I can contact, please let me know.
We’ve had her less than a week and it’s so fucking unfair that she’s going to suffer for where she was born. I want to give her such a better life and I’m angry that I can’t.
Fuck this kennel. Fuck that woman. Fuck every other person that operates puppy mills.

Our new family member Bella Grace. She's a sweet gentle girl with a little spiciness mixed in. She's a rescue and was used to breed for 4 years. She never had a name, a toy, a treat, and lived her life in a cage with no love. Think about it next time you want to buy a designer dog and how you are perpetuating a horrific cycle. I'm so looking forward to Bella blossoming and learning to be a dog!❤️

crazy how there’s no true HIPAA or medical protections for animals
crazy how there’s still puppy mills operating out of and transporting into every state
crazy how pet shops buying from puppy mills still amass a fan base
crazy how pets can be abused and forced to live in that home until they finally lash out and hurt a human
crazy how animal shelters have little to no government regulation
crazy how we turn our heads at the exploitation of animals and poor breeding practices for owners’ social media success
crazy how people can “prank” their pets, unjustly terrifying them, and get millions of views
crazy how pets rely on us and our country does nothing to protect them
crazy how anyone can have pets

Do you know about puppy mills?
Puppy mills. The place that breeds dogs for other people to buy to add them to their family. But do we stop to think about where our new family member came from? How the pup was taken from their overworked mother at a far too young age?
When you sit down and think about it, a business that makes money by breeding animals has no incentive to treat the animals right. They make more money if they keep the mother dogs pregnant as often as possible. If they don't give the dogs space to move around, they don't have to worry about watching them and they can feed them less. If they keep multiple dogs in a small kennel, they can hold more in a smaller area. These businesses treat dogs like items, but they are living things with needs.
When their needs aren't met, who is there to look out for them? Who is there to make sure the dogs are healthy? It is cheaper to discard dogs with disabilities or illnesses than to treat them. What business goes out of it's way to spend money when they won't make a profit?
A huge reason there are so many dogs in shelters is the many dogs being purchased from puppy mills. Some are being given up later, even within days of purchase, thereby adding to the number of dogs in shelters. Purchased dogs from puppy mills are replacing a spot in a family that could have been taken by a shelter or rescue dog, giving them a better life. Many dogs are put down because shelters can't hold them or retrain them.
We can all do more to educate people on this. Did you know about puppy mills? Do your friends? Talk about it next time you see a cute puppy. Get the conversation going. We can change our society if we make a conscious effort!

puppy mills
Going to the pet store was one of my favorite activities as a kid. I remember the feeling that most people get when they see puppies or kittens in their enclosures. The feeling intensified when the staff member would let you take them out to play with them in a separate room. Being near animals was so therapeutic to me. How could you not love the aesthetics of puppies and kittens? Well, this is the topic that has raised many concerns in the animal welfare community, Puppy Mills.
According to Washington University’s Journal of Law and Policy, Puppy Mill is a word used to explain a corporate dog breeding facility that makes a huge profit by selling puppies on a daily basis by prioritizing profit over the animals' well-being (Burger, 2013). Typically, these types of breeding facilities are focused on breed specific animals, like popular dog breeds such as golden retrievers or Pomeranians. The puppies are usually extremely malnourished, cramped with no room to run around, and extremely ill. More species specific animals, equals more money.
My perspective on puppies from pet stores changed almost immediately, once I understood what puppy mills were. People are sometimes being  brain washed due to the lack of education about these owners of the mills and pet stores. Unfortunately, money doesn’t mean anything to some people.
There are some red flags to look for in puppy mills. Generally, you should just adopt from a local shelter. Adopting an animal from a local shelter benefits animals who really need to be adopted. They’re way less expensive and some shelters even offer cheap or free healthcare. These puppies and kittens will show just the same amount of love and appreciation, if not more, then buying from a puppy mill. They’ve gone through hell just to get put into a shelter either because of “no one wants that animal”, they could’ve gone through abuse, or they were simply homeless and walking around the streets barely surviving. You don’t necessarily know what these animals have gone through.
Some of the red flags include the breeder having puppies quickly (which isn’t good because of the overpopulation of the puppies), they make claims that the puppy has some kind of meaningless feature- for example, “my puppies have the best fur”, and the breeder won’t answer questions about the puppies living conditions or breeding practices (death2america-tumblr, 2020).
Overall, just please do lots of research on the breeders, pet stores, or adoption centers to make sure that they give the animals proper welfare and treatment. Be more aware and your forever pet will be grateful with love and affection.

Wow. Mike Parson really likes puppy mills.
Tumblr media
Back when he was a Missouri senator, he sponsored legislation to curtail the protections voters passed with the Proposition B ballot initiative.
He's been governor since 2018 and the GOP legislature is hell bent on making our puppy mill situation even worse.
Similar scenes have been common throughout Missouri for decades. The state has been labeled the worst in the nation for problematic puppy mills for 11 years straight, according to the HSUS's annual Horrible Hundred list, which categorizes problematic puppy breeding and puppy brokering facilities. Missouri has by far the most breeders appearing on the list at 31, including multiple repeat offenders.

The Puppy Mill Epidemic
In the entire United States no other state has as many puppy mills as Missouri, and the politicians are supporting the abuse of vulnerable dogs. I made this so I could try to bring awareness to the thousands of dogs suffering. They are kept in filthy cramped cages, breeding dogs are shot when no longer fertile, and it causes many dogs to have life long medical conditions. Missouri Politicians need to stop the abuse and exploitation of Man’s best friend.

Foster Pupdate!
PeeWee PeeWee the foster dog did make it into the house after spending his first night here in the workshop to ensure that he was flea-free. (Read about his arrival here. First Foster Dog This Year!) I waited until late afternoon to move him inside, when I had time to scrub his crate again, and wash his bedding to prevent transfer of any flea dirt to the house. Although the adult fleas appeared…

Meet my new baby, Bella!
Tumblr media
I’m heartbroken over the condition she was in. The woman said she’d run a kennel for years and decided to close it down. It was absolutely a puppy mill. She easily had over 100 dogs crammed in cages OUTSIDE, which is where they’ve lived this entire time, even during the 110 degree heatwave. This picture is the first time she touched grass in her life.
She’s terrified and shaking, we have a long drive home, but I’m happy we’ve rescued her. I wish we could help them all. We’re looking into reporting her. I cried for 45 minutes after we left.
But despite all of that, she’s the SWEETEST little girl. As soon as the lady brought her to us, her whole butt started shaking with excitement and it was love at first sight. I just wish we could’ve ve helped more.
