(so srry for invoking this but I'm going down memory lane and remembered this ship existed and y'all the way it had a hold on me in the golden age of Tumblr. Can't believe this was my first crack ship. And now that I know how to art, I realized what's stopping me from drawing a nostalgic ship. )

So, ive recently gotten back into Protocreed and a what if..? idea i had was:
After Abstergo recovers Desmonds body, they experiment with his DNA and Blacklight. Resulting in him being revived after an outbreak and breaking free.
It could even be the assassins fault that the outbreak happened!

In the midst of the chaos, no one noticed the body dissapearing. It's only after the outbreak was contained and culled that Subject 17 was noted as missing. With all the footage being destroyed it is impossible to tell what happened to it, but the general consensis is that one of the infected ate it. It is a crushing blow to their research, but thankfully they have plenty of samples stored in a different facility, so all hope is not lost. No one thought of the possibilty that a repeat of Alex Mercer's revival could happen. Subject 17 has been dead for months, the body is simply too old. So no one thought too look in the shadows of the city, where something lay lurking. Tracking. Hunting.
Hungering
So I have a ProtoCreed idea similar to this that I posted here.
The comments/replies have more details on how it would go but, in a nutshell, Blacklight is a failed/abandoned Isu project headed by Tinia (so we can have a little hehe moment with Alex being called ‘Zeus’) and Dr Mercer is not a Templar but he’s still a piece of work.
And Desmond’s Isu to human genes ratio + his Bleeding Effect screwed up the virus that he still has the superhuman feats that Alex has but he can’t morph his body to have weapons or anything like that.
Instead…
It’s like he can spawn three specific humanoid figures made of the black and red writhing flesh which only has one specific goal: keep Desmond safe.
There’s more details in the link above but the main point is that Desmond’s virus makes him be able to ‘summon’ his ancestors who holds a piece of Alex’s OG abilities and it’s unclear if they are mindless or if their connection with Desmond keeps them docile because when Abstergo try to cut their connection (which are tendrils of red and black connecting the creatures to Desmond’s shadow), the creature goes berserk and attacks and devours everything around until Desmond reconnects with it.
So we have:
Altaïr = Blade
Ezio = Hammerfist
Ratonhnhaké:ton = Whipfist
Ezio gets Hammerfist because the sword of Altaïr is iconic so Altaïr gets the Blade and Ratonhnhaké:ton had the ropedart so he gets the Whipfist. XD
Although, in my original idea, Desmond keeps his memories (thanks to the Bleeding Effect) but if you want to go down the route of Desmond being ‘incubated’ by the virus during the story of Prototype and waking up afterwards, we can easily do that and the incubation period is actually what corrupted Desmond’s mind.
So in this situation, Desmond would be more like ‘Eve’ from Parasite Eve, the new origin of an outbreak (and everyone believes it’s Alex’s fault which will lead us to a modified setup for Prototype 2 and Alex and Desmond having an antagonistic start).
But the outbreak is strange because it seemed… targeted.
The ones to be hit first were Abstergo facilities or facilities under Abstergo’s shell companies.
And the spread only began when these facilities had fallen and the barricades have been breached, like… it wasn’t truly intentional but more of a ‘side effect’.
So now we have Alex trying to figure out what this new outbreak is because the ‘children’ for this one are faster and more cunning, using their surrounding to hide and wait. And these children seemed to be taking orders from three creatures made of darkness and blood.
(Or, if you want to preserve the Assassin white and red color scheme, it’s gonna be grosser with them being filled with pus and blood instead. The pus could be a sign that the virus is being combated by Desmond’s Isu genes though and that could be a clue for Alex)
And any time Alex tries to eat any of them, he only gains snippets of the memories of the same person: a man named Desmond Miles.
The three commander creatures also seemed to travel via shadows, being able to melt into the shadows before Alex could ever destroy them completely.
Later, he would realize that the whole city (whichever city we’re planning to set this on) are filled with what looked like lines all over (maybe one would say that maybe it’s the ley lines or something and Alex would say that it looks more like… veins…) and these veins are actually how the commanders travel all over the city.
At the center of the veins is a cocoon…

anyways this is tumblr and I actually do live in the wild west of America. I WILL talk about my protocreed au
So, to start off, Alex sees Desmond and Elijah while he's grabbing something at the university of New York in Manhattan, and actually catches a glimpse of Desmond eating a glass plate and a metal cup. He's so fucking confused and fascinated that he starts stalking him out of a scientific desire to study him.
Why is Desmond eating glass and metal you may ask? He is a piece of eden and his body needs nutrients in order to sustain itself. More specifically, he's three apples. Altaïr's apple was his 'body' which is why he looks so much like him, Ezio's apple was the 'voice' that allows him to properly speak to people through time, Connor and Aveline had the 'brain' apple which allows them to directly configure and control his abilities and memory.
Yes, Aveline and Connor get married in this AU. It should've happened in canon, and just bc ubi decided to drop their storyline, it doesn't mean I have to.
So, back on track, Elijah and Desmond are traveling together bc Desmond was absolutely ecstatic to learn he was having a child, and they decided to go to Manhattan after the 'Daniel incident' in Vermont. Alex manages to track Desmond down after two months working at Bad Weather and decides to just. Watch him.
And also get into a shit ton of bar fights, bc you can't tell me that Alex wasn't using his fighting moves in game before everything happened, you can't.
Most of the other employees that work at Bad Weather don't want to deal with Alex because, as previously stated he gets into a lot a bar fights and actually manages to win them, and Desmond is a good enough fighter that he can handle him. The interesting part is that Alex never tries to involve Desmond in his fights but he does let him pull him off people without attacking, like he would attack other bartenders, so they just let Desmond handle him.
Desmond is...conflicted on Alex bc on one hand, the man is stalking him and is persistent about it too, but also doesn't run away screaming when he realizes that Alex has seen him eating food that shouldn't be consumable by humans and will break a bunch of shit so people don't realize why so many dishes go missing in a week. But on the other hand, Alex is quite open about wanting to pin him to a lab table and seeing what makes him tick, which is fucking creepy. But he also??? Fights off any Abstergo agents when they're watching him in the bar (and later on he discreetly kills them) so its a really fucking mixed bag for Desmond.
This is kinda long. I'll stop here, but like I wanted there to be a reason Alex is so interested in Desmond before and after his death and rebirth, and I kinda wanted to lean into the fact that Dr. Mercer was absolutely a freak.

that protocreed au no one asked for: character synopses
(Which at this point I should just name in general but shhh y'all can wait on that.)
Anyway the brainrot is Real so I better info dump about our main characters lmao.
Desmond
On the streets, a faceless Assassin for the Templar Order. Usually sent out for the hard jobs that require precision, but also sometimes sent out to threaten and intimidate. Whatever his mission is, he gets it done discreetly and swiftly.
Behind the walls of Abstergo, he is the prize pet of Dr. Warren Vidic, and the poster boy for the Animus Project. At the tender age of 15, a young Desmond was taken from his family and brought to New York, where he was subject to horrific scientific testing and mind bending torture. He spent the first year of his captivity going through the memories of his ancestor from 11th century Syria (Altair), and inherited the skills of an assassin through the Bleeding Effect. Vidic and Abstergo’s scientists have since molded him into their compliant lapdog, having broken his spirit and will ten times over.
And inside his mind, he is Desmond, who is nothing and everything all at once. By the time he reaches his late 20s, self-loathing consumes him. The idea of death isn’t comforting, as he knows his body and his DNA will continue to be used long after he’s gone. So until then, he figures he can rebel just a little by having some say in what happens to him. The “say” is very, very small and usually disregarded, but it’s all he has so he takes it.
Alex
First appears to Desmond as a curious bystander and investigative journalist. A quirky man who’s hard to read, and almost unpredictable in what he will say or do. Seems to be both naive and also worryingly intelligent. Can be likened to being Watson to Desmond’s Sherlock Holmes.
Gradually builds a bond between him and Desmond, slowly piecing together a past life that Desmond can ultimately relate to. Soon enough, he becomes Desmond’s confidant and close friend. The more he learns about Desmond and what goes on behind Abstergo’s walls, the more intense their relationship develops. Makes it clear, after a short while, that he may have some deeper feelings for Desmond, but is awkward and hesitant to act on them.
Mercer
The “killer” that Desmond searches for. Goes unseen for the first few murders, but his “Call sign” is the result of his gruesome slaughter; all his kills carry deliberately clean, almost impossible to make incisions and cuts, as if each body was surgically dissected. The manner in which he achieves this is Desmond's biggest mystery to solve, as even he can’t replicate the exact same results on his own.
Desmond first becomes aware of Mercer when he notices him hanging around at the crime scene, almost as if he was waiting for Desmond to appear there. When Desmond gives chase, Mercer slips away impossibly fast, in ways that would make any seasoned assassin jealous. Worse, he has taken to copying Desmond’s assassin uniform, just with some minor adjustments of his own.
It’s only when Desmond wisens up and plots to bait Mercer to him does the truth start unraveling…
(still no release date planned, still havent even written anything concrete for it yet lmao im still outlining and workshopping it but!! hopefully this suffices for now haha)
