"The one sent should not fail to pay his respects to some of the lords here, who have influence with the king; and to propitiate the most illustrious and beloved Anne with some trifles, preferably something brave and novel from those parts, which she may know to be worth from 1,200 to 1,300 crowns a year (intertenir la Ill. et Amata Anna con alcuni cosselin piu presto nove et galante di quelle parte, che cognose da ascendemo ad un ducento o trecento scudi lo anno), to be divided among two or three visits." -Augustino Scarpinello, Milanese Ambassador in England, to Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan. 1531.

Louis-Antoine Saint-Just: the Beginning
On the day of his birth, 25th of August 1767, Louis-Antoine was baptized by his maternal uncle ( priest Edmond-Léonard Robinot) in the church of Saint-Aré in Decize.
Located between Nevers and Moulins, the small town of Decize then had forges, a plaster factory, coal mines, and warehouses where Burgundy wines were stored. Louis Antoine was probably born in the house of his maternal grandfather, Léonard Robinot, on the Quai du Pont-de-Loire, at the corner of Rue des Pêcheurs. There is a whole family drama about his parents' marriage and his grandfather being against it, but that's a story for another time!
His godparents were his second uncle, Antoine Robinot and Françoise Ravard the wife of a lawyer in the Parlement. He was named Louis after his father and Antoine after his godfather.

The baptismal font is in the archive of the church of Saint-Aré. We can't be sure, but since it's a 18th century font it might have been used for the baptism of baby Saint Just...

You know how in school teachers tell you to cite primary sources in your essays to connect them to real world works and keep your papers engaging?
Well I do that but for journaling. There's a lot of "here's an email I sent to my mom about my attempt to bake scones" or "here's a text exchange with Laura about my trip" or even "here's a stupid Tumblr post that I'm proud of."
Primary sources. But from my life.
It's almost like scrapbooking, only in a word doc with no pictures.

Does anyone have access to this primary source I came across?
There’s a section of a ballad in an article I read that goes:
‘Much ill cometh of a small note
As Crum well set in a man's throat
That shall put many other to pain, God wote;
But when Crumwell is brought a-low
And we read out the Christ Cross Row
Of K L M then shall we have news’.
(You can find this section in the archives in a letter from Norfolk to Cromwell)
But a book also mentioning it says it’s part of a longer ballad adapted from ‘Christ’s cross row’.
I’m pretty sure the author got the extended version - based on his citations - from ‘the defeat of the pilgrimage of grace’ by bush and bownes. Unfortunately I don’t have access to this, and altho I’ve requested it from the library as it’ll be useful for my dissertation, I don’t think they’ll get it in time for the seminar i need it for!
So if anyone does have a copy of or access to that book and the pages relevant to this ballad, I’d be very thankful :)

If you've read Fierce Valor, you may recall the authors draw pretty heavily on a report Speirs wrote after the war reflecting on the engagements just outside of Carentan.
I actually came across it online here.
It's an interesting read and it mentions some other familiar events and names related to Easy Co. so I thought I'd share.

"Cromwell coolly betrayed his ally in religion when she was becoming obstructive and a liability to his plans for the future, and the tale is abominable." Diarmaid MacCulloch, 2014
//
"And then you see the real story, and just the big outlines of it, which should have been there for all of us; that Cromwell’s career is held back under Anne, it is not advanced. As soon as she’s dead, whoosh! He’s away! He’s a baron, he’s a knight, he’s Lord Privy Seal. That should have told all of us, and it didn’t." Diarmaid MacCulloch, 2019
//
"Cromwell wants to be Henry's right-hand man; he wants to be the chief advisor. Anne wants to be Henry's right-hand woman, she wants to be the chief advisor. You cannot have two in the one court." Dr. Lauren Mackay, 2022
//
"Cremuel said lately to me that were the Lady to know the familiar terms on which he and I are, she would surely try to cause us both some annoyance, and that only three days ago she and he had had words together, the Lady telling him, among other things, that she would like to see his head off his shoulders. "But," added Cromwell, "I trust so much on my master, that I fancy she cannot do me any harm." I cannot tell whether this is an invention of cromwell in order to enhance his merchandise. All I can say is, that everyone here considers him Anne's right hand, as I myself told him some time ago." Eustace Chapuys to the Emperor, June 1535
"Now [Cromwell] stands above every one but the Lady, and every one considers he has more credit with his master than Wolsey had." Eustace Chapuys to the Emperor, November 1535

!! Urgent !! Looking for sources
Dear all, for my paper of 6,500 words I am looking for sources. I am mainly interested in looking at emotional language during the Terror-period. I already started to look for threatening letters towards Robespierre, I only got three so far!
Because the availability of these are scarce, I maybe look into 'fan-mail' or supporting letters to Robespierre as a contrast. Does anyone know interesting sources?

Disrupt Project- Gathering sources
Teddies, toys and Lego, now I am looking towards my video games as primary sources to mix in.
I recorded a time-lapse of myself playing Tetris, photos of my 3DS gaming console and have also made a short, simple stop motion video of the device that I will be uploading after this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will be including these in my future works and I’m excited to bring these concepts to my next workshop.

Are we gonna talk about the time Barras either admitted to following Robespierre home (if this account is true) or fantasized about saving Robespierre from the ~ evil, STRONGER collot ~ and then following him home (if this was made up YEARS AFTER the fact)
