The sky was a mottled wash of grey by the time Volke made it to the edge of Melior's castle district. His boots were soaked through, hair and undershirt just as drenched despite his hood. He'd pulled his mask low an hour ago to better breathe, but the air was still too muggy to move quickly without his lungs starting to burn. He could feel the sweat between his shoulder blades, and the itching annoyance of how everything from his sodden boots to his soaked bandanna clung to his skin.

There was nothing to be done for it at this point. The stables for the Royal Knights were separate from the regular cavalry, on the western outskirts where grassland met the edge of the castle grounds. He had three barrier walls left to scale to get there, the stone of each still streaming and slick with rain water. 

He doubted his possible next employer would care how he showed so long as it happened, but Volke preferred to give a certain impression when speaking to his clients, one hard to maintain when he looked like a drowned alley cat.

Again, nothing for it but to get moving. Besides, it wasn't like the man he was set to meet hadn't seen him in far worse condition.

Forsyth took a few of his father's books with him when he left to join the Deliverance. He still feels a little guilty for doing so, but he just couldn't stop himself. One of the books he takes with him is a tome on great and renowned knights; he remembers sitting with the book as a child and reading for hours on end.

It's something that helps him remember why he started this journey in the first place.

Though raised by a family of devout followers of Mila, Gray has always been, at heart, a skeptic. He never takes anything at face value and is suspicious of things that seem too good to be true. This includes religion. In fact, until the journey, he wasn’t even sure Mila was real. And by the time he found out she was… well, it was too late to worship her in any meaningful way. 

As an adult, Gray keeps to himself about religion. He isn’t fond of public spectacle and, though he has a healthy respect for the clergy, stays far away from most of them.

That said, he does pray to Mila. Quietly, at night when the stars are high and no one is around, he whispers childhood prayers of a goddess long gone. They benefit no one but bring Gray comfort. And that is enough.

The mention of his father startled him. 

Memories rushed through his mind like a flooded river, violent, whipping, and overwhelming. Though Eliwood would not admit it freely, he still experienced many sleepless nights, and the feeling of his father’s body stilling in his arms as he took his final breath was forever burned into his memory. His eyes stung at the thought of the cold hand that he had desperately tried to warm back to life. Swallowing a hard lump in his throat, he composed himself and straightened his posture. It had been some time since his father’s passing, and there was no need for him to react so emotionally to such a question. 

“Though it is true that Ostia holds a great influence in Lycia, I do not believe my father’s approval of our friendship was solely driven by political reasons. Hector may not be the most…well-mannered, but he has always been genuine in his care for his friends,” The lord explained, his expression growing fond, “when we were children, Hector and I spent a great deal of time together. My father had always welcomed him. I cannot imagine that he disliked him.”

Given Leanne’s innocence and childish nature, I can’t imagine she would get envious over something too serious. However, she does feel a bit envious when she sees her brother’s speaking modern tongue with others so easily, where she struggles. She’s determined and won’t give up on the language, but sometimes she wishes she could have learned it with them, not after them.

After the initial shock of seeing their son again, seven years older and seven inches taller, they unleashed a wrath unlike any that Silas had experienced before. 🙉what are two things that make my muse uncomfortable in conversation!!

1. Himself. In any context, except business. Don’t ask him his age, what he likes, what he wants, what he thinks, he’ll deflect at every turn. Unless he’s become reasonably familiar with that other person, and even then he’s not going to be very good at continuing that conversation.

2. The details of his financial situation. There’s a reason he makes the fee to even speak about it so high.

A soft, embarrassed chuckle escaped the nobleman as he shifted the weight onto his other foot. It was an unusual question, but he supposed it wasn’t an inappropriate one. Eliwood was honest to fault and therefore, he couldn’t find it in himself to answer the question dishonestly.

“If I must, I admit that I…enjoy capturing Hector’s attention, whether it be on the battlefield or during a time of rest. There is warmth in knowing just how deeply he cares for me.”

Though I’m not completely certain if their beliefs are necessarily religious, the heron clan traditionally follows a very specific belief system and outlook on life. The herons, being fragile creatures, believe in accepting their fate with little resistance, no matter what it may be. If the Goddess wills their destruction, they are to accept their death without struggle.

As a royal white heron, Leanne has also adopted this traditional thinking, but her brother Reyson has influenced her to not be so complacent with a tragic fate. While she still believes in accepting what will come, she will fight back against a terrible outcome, and refuse to lay down without fighting.

Having braved the bitter cold winds of the winter, the desolate limbs of the trees had transitioned into the hopeful boughs of spring, littered with lively green buds that would soon blossom. The season had freshly awoken, and the the air still carried a chill, but Eliwood welcomed it openly nonetheless. A heavy cloak was draped around his form, embracing him in a gentle, but firm hold that ensured the warmth would cling to him.

A few years had passed since some of the greatest challenges of his life had occurred, but he would never forget the sweet, thoughtful actions his friends had undertaken when he had required it the most. His gaze was cast out to the distance towards the west and silently, he wondered how his dearest friend fared.

“I fear it would be rather difficult to isolate a single instance,” Eliwood admitted, a soft laugh escaping his lips, “I have been very fortunate to have very good friends. One I oft think of is Hector, who I am grateful that he accompanied me on my journey. In truth…I did not tell him I had intended to leave Pherae in search of my father. With Lord Uther taking leadership of Ostia, I assumed that he would need his brother’s presence. However…Hector and I crossed paths early in my departure. It was then I learned that rather than by coincidence, he intentionally sought to join me after learning I of my journey.”

“I don’t really think it has a special meaning to me,” Leanne admitted, wearing an apologetic smile, “but, my mother once told me that it my name means “graceful dweller by the wood.” My father tells me it means “sun.” I think both of those meanings are very special to my parents.”
