The term ‘carriage blanket’ has opened up avenues of research & images, including another miniature w/ oriental-type pattern (while ‘railway rug images’ = modern rugs with trains on them). Seeing the miniature railway rug (so adorably twee; I love it) reminded me of bedrolls carried by frontiersmen & US Civil war soldiers. Turns out, both carried small amounts of gear in them, so train passengers could have used their rug as luggage too (nightclothes, etc).
