abandoned aperture laboratories portal au !

partly making this with my wife @bun-elations <33

in which rhys was a technician scientist back in the 90s who oversaw testing! participated in a 'cryogenic sleep testing group', and didn't wake up with any of his co-workers. awoken years and years later and sought the help of an abandoned android. teaming together to try and get the fuck OUT of aperture science

sun & moon were created to babysit aperture science employees children, but when budget cuts happened they got whipped into the testing facilities. didn't bother separating them, and also didn't bother giving moon any testing protocols.

they got left abandoned inside the testing facilities, eventually making their way out but spent years alone. as most of the employees either mysteriously died or are also stuck inside the cryogenic sleep testing group.

anyways i'm using this as an excuse to draw that sweet sick portal gun, and make the gays talk about their damn feelings.

Ok, so, in the Portal 2 Developer’s commentary, they mention a thought experiment they would try when designing some of the elements of Old Aperture - they created a character named Bob, Old Aperture’s sole janitor, who didn’t know Jack about science but could fix anything with duct tape, and they’d ask themselves “how would Bob do it?”.

And I was thinking to myself, “man, being Old Aperture’s sole janitor’s gotta be rough. You gotta be pretty stubborn to get all that done…hang on. Who else do I know who’s stubborn and canonically has a parent who works at Aperture-“

So, I present to you: Bob, Aperture Science’s sole janitor, and Chell’s adoptive father.

This is my (slightly late) @portal-secret-santa submission! Merry Christmas @nuttersincorporated!

The prompt was: "In the final fight with Wheatley in Portal 2, Wheatley tells Chell that she wasn’t the first human he woke up. There were five others before her. Wheatley thinks they all died but he also thought Chell might have died near the start too.

I’d love something exploring what happened to one or more of the people Wheatley woke before Chell. What happened to them? Was Doug Rattmann one of them?"
