Now that Dracula Daily and Re:Dracula and over (and I just remembered to post these hhhh) here’s some photos from Halloween!! My friend and I went as Jon and Mina and galavanted around a nearby campus building to take pictures hehe!

Rewatched Wolfwalkers and remembered a theory I had after I first saw it.

Maybe it’s been confirmed before somewhere or people have talked about this before and I just haven’t noticed/remembered, but—

I think Moll made a deliberate decision to bite Bill. Him holding her daughter back from her may have given her cause to justify her attack, but she did nothing until Robyn called out to her father. There’s the possibility she wouldn’t have noticed, being chained up in a crowd of people with anger clouding her senses, but Robyn calls after Bill again, this time while climbing onto the stage. It’s been established that wolfwalkers can recognize their kind from miles away, and she wouldn’t see Robyn as just another face in the crowd. Earlier, Mebh emphasizes how important it is to not bite anyone (as instructed by Moll) and while yes, Moll ultimately does this to protect her daughter in the moment, she also realizes that Bill and Robyn are related—out of any of the guards she could have bitten, he was the safest option. She could’ve put two and two together pretty quickly and realized that Bill probably has no idea his daughter is a wolfwalker, making Robyn’s situation much more dangerous. Turning him into a wolfwalker FORCES him into understanding, both of his daughter and now of himself, and thus he would never be a threat.

She was protecting her daughter, but given how the scene played out, she did it with full knowledge of the consequences.

🎉30 YEARS OF ANIMANIACS!!!🎉

Imma be real, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything relating to these funky little puppy children, and even though I didn’t get to finish a celebratory artwork, I just wanna put this expression of gratitude here at the very least.

Several years ago in high school, my geography teacher was giving out our first in a series of quizzes. Obviously, it consisted of labeling things on a map. He told us that we could get out of the quiz, but we had to do a bit of extra credit. He pulled up Yakko’s World on YouTube and I thought to myself “what the heck is this? I never saw this on PBS Kids”. If we could recite it all, then we could be exempt a quiz. I went home and watched the video that night, over and over, trying as best I could to memorize as much of the video that I could stuff in my brain. Of course the next day when the quiz happened I only got from United States to Haiti, but it was still fun to hear that catchy song, and I was still plagued by curiosity. What show was this? ‘Animaniacs’? Who are the mice? (holy shit “who are the mice?” girlie you have absolutely NO idea)

A bit later the reboot comes out and it’s all a-buzz in the animation community. I decided to check it out; I like rubber hose. I heard from an artist I followed online I should watch the og first to get a feel for the series, and lord was I hooked.

I resonated with Yakko a crapton ((who doesn’t?)) and I kinda wished for me and my younger sibs’ relationship to be as fun and carefree and the Warner’s. The show drove me to learn more about animation and to draw more, and I deeply appreciated the voice acting, and learned more about that too. Heck, I rejoined Tumblr because of Animaniacs (Pinky and The Brain to be exact). And some of the first people I reached out to online were also fans of the show.

It’s sappy and silly, but I love how this show has shaped me, and if there comes a day I don’t remember any of it, I at least will always retain the happiness and feeling of pure joy Animaniacs has brought me.

And now I have at least one unimpressive party trick to pull from my hammerspace whenever the topic of geography comes up.

A proposition

Thinkin again about how Della’s lullaby and her little hype song was the Moon Theme from the Ducktales Nintendo game. I know that people who played the game were hit with nostalgia when they heard that on the show for the first time and it just adds another layer of emotion to it—not to mention the fact that the lyrics just…make u wanna sob in general…idk I cannot form comprehensible words about this I just adore Della and this song and lOOK TO THE STARS MY DARLING BABY BOYSSS~

You know what? I was inspired so JOURNEY INTO IMAGINATION THOUGHT DUMP

In a Defunctland podcast episode, Ron Schneider (an experienced theme park actor/writer and the OG walkaround Dreamfinder), when asked about thoughts of the current state of the ride, mentioned that it's not the original ride they need back, but a severely updated one; those who want the old ride back the way it was don't realize that while the technology used for the attraction was pretty good and relatively ahead of its time for the 80's, it's now mostly stuff we'd see on our smartphones. By utilizing the technology of today with the basic concept and spirit of the OG ride (that imagination belongs to everyone and the everyone has the ability and capacity to be creative) it most certainty could entertain and inspire anyone looking to board the ride, and it would satisfy the fans and general populace alike.

ALSO speaking of the spirit of the ride, I feel as though the condescending nature of the last iteration of the ride has wildly mischaracterized Figment: he's no longer a curious childlike figure who can explore the wonders of the world freely, but instead he's treated as an annoyance who acts out *because* he's discouraged from being imaginative. Channing constantly tells Figment to suppresses his excitement and creativity, and while obviously that doesn't work, kids do pick up on that. They see Figment, a childlike figure (like them) excited to share his wacky ideas, be completely shut down by Channing for almost the entire ride. And I don't know how much truth this statement holds, but I feel as if kids will see that and question how annoying they seem, and their genuine curiosity might get squashed because of that. And lets all be honest, Figment is kind of a pest in the current version of the ride. He's supposed to be. The way I see it, both Dreamfinder and Doc Channing are meant to be the metaphorical "left brain" to Figment's "right brain", but Dreamfinder succeeds in that role because he guides and encourages Figment, giving him more ideas and and mixing them together to create new ones (while not going completely overboard), while Channing fails because he's constantly berating Figment and giving him no space to be creative (so Figment has to make that space for himself, which causes a bit of chaos). I don't hate Channing, I just think the way he was written to interact with Figment isn't working too well. I want this attraction to succeed; an updated ride and Imageworks would be FANTASTIC. Crossing my fingers for any news on this ride.
