Just some lake spirits hanging out :))
Or: Daphne makes some friends while she's stuck in lake Roccaluce
W/o the background and only the background!

I re-colored Azelf, the Willpower Pokemon, to make her match an OC. She’s a survivor with strong willpower, so I thought this fit perfectly.
My first time re-coloring something - and I had a blast! I might do more pokemon/characters after this. lol
I obviously don’t own Azelf, I just edited the official art to have some fun. Felt that needed to be said.

The guardians of the lakes in the Sinnoh region, Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie, show their curious side as they examine and become fascinated with one of human's creations; balloons. Their fascination stems from the fact that not only do they come in all different shapes and sizes, but also, how they effortlessly fly/float in the air. Plus, they are a lot of fun to play with, or in the case of Azelf, bounce on.
I recently saw a tweet by Clip Studio Paint showcasing a fellow artist's tips on illumination when it comes to objects. Within those tips were different ways blending paint options could be used to one's advantage. I figured it could also apply to Krita and I gave it a whirl. I was surprised to see how well these different blending paint effects worked together with the flat colors to give them the shading I needed for everything I needed; from the lake guardians to the balloons, it worked marvelously! My favorite way of blending was with the airbrush tool as it made the balloons really pop when it comes to colors, shading, and contrast! The blending tool can also be useful outside of the airbrush to allow me to create the shading I needed for Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit!
Let me tell you, drawing the three lake guardians wasn't easy! Their bodies weren't too hard to draw, but their heads were an entirely different story! In my honest opinion, Uxie took the longest to draw out of all 3 lake guardians due to their head's complexity! There are a lot of curves and facial details I had to take into account as I was drawing them, especially in the position and pose I wanted. Even so, it turned out great and it's more experience at the end of the day. Mesprit was probably the easiest to draw as unlike Uxie and Azelf, (whom I'll get to in a bit.) their facial features and design were the simplest. Granted, their pose wasn't the most difficult thing in the world, but the point was to showcase their facial expression and work on head positioning to have them look upwards at something while facing directly forward. Azelf was a tough one too, but not as tough as Uxie, in my opinion. Their pose was unlike anything I've tried, especially since there aren't any official pieces of artwork depicting Azelf in this position. Regardless, this was a lot of fun to draw and a worthy challenge. As far as drawing their head, it was hard, sure, but thankfully, the base head shape being an oval made things easier to work with when it came to adding the details to them.

going INSANE. what is he thinking. why did he say this. why does he do all of this. i am thinking so hard.
we know he's seeking arceus to recreate the world bc in his eyes the world is cruel and unjust and it needs to be destroyed and remade. he's set himself on a mission to create the better reality he's envisioned for his whole life.
but everything else he does. the way he spends his time on pasio making people smile with togepi. even if he justifies it as something purely transactional to get more customers, we know he doesn't really take his merchant job seriously. the way he loves his pokemon so much that they will pop out of their pokeball to excitedly tell whoever will listen how much they love volo back. him trying to capture these moments of happiness tangibly because they never last long and can be wiped away any second.
he still hangs onto hope so much despite what's implied to have happened to him. in spite of all the anger and bitterness that's festered in him, he doesn't really want to destroy everything as he says.
it all started with a wish for the world to be a better place, for the good in the world to outweigh all the cruelty. he's still trying to spread what happiness he can.
but at the same time his past drags behind him and reminds him that he can't afford to trust in the goodness of the world.
that self-assigned mission to usurp arceus's power and rewrite everything.. to him, it's his duty now. he has to do it for himself and, as he rationalizes to himself, for the world.
so he ignores the flaws and holes he finds in his own reasoning. he can't help but seek out the brightness and happiness and goodness that does exist in the world, yet he has to dismiss it to justify his goals.
... all this to try and explain to myself why volo's asking all these questions and making all these comments that seem to go against what we'd expect given his ulterior motive and plans. and it's like he's asking the few friends he has to remember him as the one who seeks joy, even when he does the worst to fulfill his dreams
