“I suppose our lessons will have to wait until we’re back home.”
Shrugging, Kouga fingered a book on a nearby shelf, and Kagome smiled when his hand paused long enough from him to read the cover. “Not sure you’d want to waste your time when there’re old friends to catch up with. Besides, I doubt you’ll lose everything you learned if I let you off easy for a few days.”
Kagome rolled her eyes in lieu of laughing. “You're not a waste of time. And don’t feel obligated to visit that library if you don’t want to. You deserve a break as well.”
“Wouldn’t be an obligation at all. I hope you won’t find it a bother if I should knock on your door to help me pronounce something.”
Kagome fought the smile that threatened to split her face and cause her to blush. Looking up at Kouga without lifting her head, she tried not to think about how the novel she shoved under her pillow would describe such a look. “Never a bother. Consider my door open.”
Kouga narrowed his eyes, the grin on his face wicked. “I'll remember that.”

13. Detective AU + 87. Aroused By Her Voice
Fanfiction Trope Mash-Up || @pointyobjects
Kouga could not have made a bigger mistake.
Ms. Higurashi was excellent at what she did. Her referral came with high remarks, she specialized in cases such as these, and most importantly, she was completely discreet. No one knew he was looking into his grandfather's will, no one knew he was gathering evidence for a future case, no one knew he would soon be getting that asshole out of his grandfather's house for good.
No one had any idea that he knew he was being shafted, he knew he'd been lied to, and he knew the "lawyer" they scared him off with hadn't been licensed to practice in seven years. But with a not-inexpensive retainer for Ms. Higruashi, he had all that evidence and the promise of more.
It was still a mistake. Kouga could barely pay attention when she relayed the information she gathered and her intentions from week to week. He tried, oh, he tried, but her voice held a straight line to his dick. And he absolutely could not have that happening -- she was working for him! He was paying her! This was completely inappropriate! He tried to change their method of communication to email, but she refused, preferring voice conversations. He saw the logic in her decision, but it rained hell on him every week.
Her voice followed him through his day whenever he was alone, in his car, in his art studio, in his dreams. He couldn't get her out of his head no matter what he tried. The closer they got to the end of this investigation, the sooner he would no longer be plagued by her voice stroking over his nerves.
Kouga had no idea if he wanted that or not.

6. What fic/book (by someone else) made you want to write?
Hi, Anonymous! I just saw this, sorry about that!
Honestly…I’ve been a HUGE, AVID reader since I was a munchkin.  I had a high school reading level at at 10.  On top of that my mom’s an author, and my grandpa is a writer, so it was a bit hard for me to avoid that gene I think.  I wrote my first story (that I remember being serious about) at 10 and my first HA! fanfic at the age of 12 or 13 (it used to (embarrassingly) be online on the old fan sites…I’m kind of glad they are gone now haha.)
So to quit blabbing and get to the answer.  I couldn’t say a specific book/author/fic that inspired me to want to write.  It’s just something I’ve done forever.  My favorite author is probably Richie Tankersley Cusick (love her style and her YA horror mysteries) so I’m sure she had a big influence on me.  I also LOVED “Ella Enchanted” and that made me inspired to look at things in a new, exciting and modern-y way.
And as far as HA! fanfiction…in 2006 I got reinspired into the fiction fandom and I think it was likely by a myriad of fic authors, but @pointyobjects stands out the most as being what made me finally pick it up again and post something. I’ve talked about why I liked her work here.
Thanks for the ask!

Because AO3 was down earlier, here's a lil'snippet of the newest chapter:
“Oh yeah,” Kouga asked, turning and stepping into her space. Kagome’s vest had been abandoned before diving into the water, but the buttons to her blouse were undone, and the blanket was a lump of wet fabric behind her. The room around them stilled and heated. “And what is it you want?”
Looking up from the floor, Kagome blinked away a drop of rain that threatened to fall into her eyes. "If you can’t tell, you’re not half as smart as I gave you credit for." Kagome's voice sounded too deep, and she immediately wanted to take back her words, turn tail out the door, and possibly disappear into the night. She blinked and rain water fell from her eyes and down her cheeks.
The breath that left Kouga was supposed to be something akin to a laugh. But the sound that accompanied it was strained, and he scrambled to make sense of it to himself and Kagome. “I reckon you remember your manners while we're here. Some people would redden your backside for talking like that."
The challenge burst forth from Kagome before she realized it. Instead of backing down, she stood her ground, even as Kouga strode across the room to stand in front of her. The cold from the rainwater disappeared, all of her remaining body heat traveling to one traitorous spot south of her bellybutton, a clench in her stomach that took all her strength to hide. "I'd like to see you try."

Worrying that her time away would make her haughty and too unlike herself to even be seen with him, and Inuyasha was glad that his fears were put to rest a full ten minutes after she stepped off her train. After embracing her father, her next stop was him, and were it not for her fine blue traveling dress, he would have mussed her hair or played some childish prank to remind her not to leave town for so long.
Or, at the very least, to take him with her the next time she left.
Slipping Traces is nominated in the Third Term of the Inuyasha Fandom Awards for Best Romance! Please follow the link at @feudalconnection to vote!!

"Are you going to tell me your name today?"
Her horse finally stopped, and Kagome busied herself with inspecting and removing debris from her horse's mane as she felt the Horsehand dismount behind her.
"Persistent as a fly, and 'bout half as bothersome.” The Horsehand removed a dirtied kerchief from his pocket, and wiped at his face with it. Kagome scrunched her nose at the grit stuck to her face and neck, and waited until he took another step back to move off of her horse. She tied him up in silence, and was glad for the shadows across the open clearing that were beginning to lengthen. They would have just enough time for her to inspect his writing assignment, and maybe plan for their next meeting.

Slipping Traces: Chapter Four
"Do you think you'll leave one day?"
He chuckled, and Kagome felt her shoulders fall slightly at the sound. She knew him better than to think he was laughing at her, but the thought of him departing sent her into a slight melancholy.
"I keep tellin' myself that...gets a little harder everyday, though." He tossed another twig onto the small fire in front of them. It was enough to illuminate their faces, but didn't drown out the scattering of stars overhead.
Kagome thought, as she had over and over for the past two days, about his name. Kouga. "Why? If you don't feel like you belong?"
"Nights like this feel pretty good. Packin' and leavin' don't sound as nice right now."

"You were worried about me. And I was worried about you too. I don't know why we keep acting like that's such a bad thing." Kagome watched the puddle around her feet begin to grow as water dripped from her clothes.
Kouga paused in his movements. Facing away from her as he was, Kouga tried to read her emotions through her voice alone. Even in her compassion, there was a hint of anger, like whiskey with a bite that came later. It was lower than her usual octave, and Kouga took a few deep breaths to dispel what that huskiness did to him. "Nothing wrong with caring about people. But you…you can do better. I'd hate to waste your time."

Kouga met her eyes at the same time she pulled her cheek from his chest, and the two slowed in their swaying to stare. Her eyelids were heavy, and it only took a momentary glance at Kagome’s parted lips for him to descend. Damn the whole town. Damn the storm. Damn Serenity Creek, and Talon’s Field and every pair of eyes that made he and Kagome wear their defenses.

Hojo looked flushed. "If I may speak bluntly, you're a beautiful, but wildly inexperienced young woman, traveling alone with a man of…ill-repute."
Kagome turned away from him, loading her books in the saddle bags attached to her horse. The task gave her a moment to collect herself, ready as she was to give Hojo a dressing down so thorough that his mother wouldn’t recognize him. When she was finished, she closed each bag with a harsh tug, and turned back around. "Excuse me, but I think your assessment of myself and the Horsehand is incorrect. I am not a ' wildly inexperienced' young woman, and he is not of 'ill-repute'."

Without warning, large hands lifted her from her saddle until her feet were on the ground, Kagome looked down, aware that the Horsehand was standing as close to her as ever, and if he was an imposing figure with a horse in between them, he was even more so standing in front of her. His hands were large, spanning the entire area of her ribcage with his finger spread. Within the span of another breath, he removed his hands from her body, and Kagome had enough sense to keep from leaning forward.
"I'll teach you to ride if you teach me somethin' in return." Even without his hands on her, he stood close enough that his whisper was loud and clear to her.
