In my early pre-teen years, I was legit obsessed with Pretty Little Liars. I even read all the books, yes, all the 16 books.

I thought that obsession was over, then HBOMax comes and give me a new spin off full full of horror, blood and badass new liars.

Pretty Little Liars, S1E1.

#Not the greatest quality as N.etflix took PLL out but..#One of my most favourite Spencer outfits for season 1.#Everything about this just works.#The plunging neckline on her shirt/cardigan coupled with a tiny collar #The grayish-black colour that compliments her skirt #The ruffles on the back..#Her skirt! Very pretty very Hastings core.#The riding boots? a staple in Spencer's wadrobe.#And yes she is an accomplished Equestrian as well.#And finally.. The hair.#The voluminous curls.. No stray lock on her forehead as she is always moving about/studying and that would annoy her.#Just generally how put together and preppy this look is.#A true Ralph Lauren girl she is!

This is more of a rant than an analysis, an opinion, you can disagree/agree.

BTW, I haven’t watched the series but read all the books. There would be spoilers on some of the books, on who A is. This is more why it should be animated and how.

𝐖𝐡𝐲?

In live actions, it's hard to find an actor that looks like the character. However, I think PLL needs some characters to look similar to their book counterparts, not exactly but similar.

In my point of view, it could have been easier to convey the story to an audience.

E.G Emily’s parents were racist; they didn’t like Maya because she was black (so it would make sense for Emily’s struggles), of course they can’t find the perfect actor to look like Emily in a live action but can animate her.

Also, Rosewood has a classy school that the girls attend with uniforms. Obviously, it's hard to use uniforms in a live action but it’s more easier animated (saves hassle to draw different outfits for kids to go to school)

Honestly, this is more of an idea (sorry I can’t explain this properly).

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲?

Mona Vanderwaal’s; in the earlier books she’s described to look similar to Alison by Hanna. This foreshadows what was going to happen in the future, that Mona was the first A. In the first book (throughout the next 3 books as well), all 4 girls kept seeing blonde hair, this would add to the curiosity of the audience if Alison was still alive before finding her body.

It makes sense to an audience that the blonde was Mona, make sense to the PLL girls that they were targeted by Mona not Alison. Adds more creepiness if they kept seeing blonde hair.

Spencer Hastings; when she discovered that her Ali was actually step-sisters. Also, it would make sense if past Ali and current/past Spencer look a little bit like each other. Along with Melissa.

Ali; if there was some scenes of 6th grade Ali and 7th grade her it could show her to have darker blonde hair in 7th grade also darker blue eyes. This would convey on the twin switch, foreshadowing that the Ali they knew was never the real one. (sorry if this part was confusing)

Nearly any blonde because in Spencer’s flashbacks she always sees someone with Ali who is blonde on the night the murder took place.

Hanna; It would be more easier to differentiate past her and present her. And to portray how she doesn’t want to go revert to her ‘ugly’ past life that she had. Also to illustrate how much she had changed prior to Alison being missing.

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝟗-𝟏𝟔

My personal opinion would be to cut some parts that are useless, to shorten them. This is because the books drag the new A torturing them (which is real Ali).

𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬?

I haven’t read Pretty little secrets (which I don’t plan on doing) but definitely read Ali’s Pretty Little Lies (honestly my favorite book in the series). Ali’s Pretty Little Lies could be an animated movie.

𝐈𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧!

In my opinion, any PLL character would be better animated, and it could be more better telling the story. Only if it follows the story of the books.

Finally, I honestly love the book design of the characters and would like to see it animated.

Your favorite non canon ship?

Btvs — I’m predictable and it’s Fuffy with Coffy a close second. If I was answering with like, a rarepair though would go with Willow x Faith because it’s one I love a lot…

TVDu — Hizzie and Bamon, I generally enjoy a lot of noncanon TVDu ships over the canon ones though.

Pll - I ship a lot of noncanon femslash for Pll but Vandermarin is my favorite. Spemily is also like, probably my softest spot in terms of liar dynamics.

Is there a ship you didn’t like at first but ultimately started shipping?

Btvs — hmmm. Idk I don’t really think so? I do think that when I first watched I would have said I disliked Buffy/Angel because of instalove, but nowadays my view on it is more while I gravitate towards other ships for both chars a lot more it’s an interesting good story that’s a big part of my favorite character’s journey even if it’s not the most to my taste as a romance. But nothing I fully 180ed on that’s coming to mind.

TVDu — the opposite is more common w TVDu ships… when I was rewatching I was enjoying Stelena more than I remembered although my issues with it still stand, and I never disliked Forwood but they also got to my emotions a bit more on rewatch. But again no full 180s come to mind.

Pll — I sort of ship all combinations of the core six women in Pll but would say Hanna/Alison and Hanna/Aria took the longest for me to warm too as concepts, Halison because of Alison’s treatment of Hanna’s eating disorder (although considering the state of what is canon in Pll I judge myself a little for being skeeved) although it is a fascinating dynamic that plays off some themes I really love… Haria not really for any big reason they were just the dynamic it took me longest to get interested in although I got there rewatching eps. I ship both now although I prefer a lot of other pll pairings still.

Also I did enjoy Spencer/Caleb more than I was expecting too based on what I knew of fan responses to it if that counts.

Your oldest ship; the one you’ve had for the longest time?

Btvs — I think Buffy/Cordelia was the first thing I ever shipped in the show, since Out of Sight Out of Mind.

TVDu — hmm this one is harder to pin down. I feel like when I first watched s1 Bonnie/Elena leapt out to me most at first and I do enjoy them but my feelings on the dynamic are complicated because of Bonnie’s treatment … I also remember being interested in late s1 Delena on first watch but losing that interest pretty quickly in s2 so. Let’s say Jeremy/Anna because I’ve always thought they were very cute and underrated.

Pll — I’ll just say Emaya because I liked their scenes in the pilot.
