Good evening willa I'm thinking about how volume two really had the potential to be the end of stranger things and it could've been good. They could've killed vecna and the fourth gate didn't have to open (also it was just so unsatisfying how they did that?? Suddenly it's two days later and no one is talking about how a fourth gate opened). Will could've been given a happier and better written story than he was. If they had focused the story on the characters and not making bad and unnecessary things happen at every turn, I think volume two could've been better and end the show in a really satisfactory way.

Like at this point I feel the vecna stuff is going to feel repetitive in season 5 (since it seems that whole story was already explained (and really could've been concluded) in this season). Like I know he's going to try to take over or some shit and the kids will fight him like they did this season. Hopefully everyone (Will!!!!!) will be given better arcs than they were given in volume two - that's about the only thing I feel is important about the show right now.

i do feel a little underwhelmed by vol 2 — the fan theories were ultimately so much more dynamic and complex than what we ended up actually getting but honestly, that didn’t surprise me. the 2 day time jump definitely threw me off, especially after what had just happened! i think they were just desperate to get the groups all back together and couldn’t justify dragging it out for another few days. i can understand why they approached it in the way that they did, vecna and dealing with the entirety of the upside down and it’s origin story is bigger than any of the other villains they’ve had before, it requires more screen time to explain and stuff, but i still feeling like vol 2 could’ve been expanded — despite it already being 4 hours long.

i’ll be interested to see how they develop season 5. especially because there will be another, more significant time jump (i think that’s right?). they’ve got a lot to wrap up and address, and as you are too, i’m most interested to see what they do with will. noah schnapp proved once again he’s got the acting skills to handle complex material, but it feels like trying to get water out of stone to get the duffers to give him substantial screen time. he (and by turn the rest of the byers) are the heart of the show (sorry mike) and it definitely feels like he’s been shafted to the side. let the boy be happy, please 🙏

anyways, we’ll probably be waiting another few years for the next season — so we’ll just have to deal with it the best way we know how, paragraphs of fandom meta and fan fiction.
