I was excited to get back to my “reward” today in between making our family masks and even showered first thing so that I felt ready to go. Mostly, I have iron seams open and top stitched. I also removed a board installed at the top of the windows for valances and put more into the closet, making the sewing room even nicer. But, I’m afraid that I am not as ready for work as Barbie is. It was a good thing that I left this fabric out to tempt me back into the sewing room. It led me to get all the mask fabric and interfacing cut out for our family’s masks. The next night, I felt that I should be working on them, but it didn’t happen. No making did, which is rare. Today, I at least got the interfacing ironed on and am sitting at the machine. Did I mention that practical sewing isn’t my favorite? I’ve been rewarding myself with breaks of tracing patterns from the Barbie sewing book. Originally, most of this fabric was bought for Barbie clothes, but I really needed something motivating to get into this project. There is also a pocket for a filter, something like a coffee filter or another non-woven material, making it more effective. Wish me luck. The tooth pillow is a little wonky because I used quilters’ cotton instead of flannel (at may daughter’s request, but it’s what I have used previously), but I stayed up until about 2:30am to finish it, and the littlest is happy with it, so I am too. As I was cutting out the fabric, my son (oldest child) came through the room. I mused on the fact that this would be the last tooth pillow that I made for the children that I gave birth to (in this lifetime), but if they had children, then I would make them for their children. My littlest lost a tooth today! She just turned 5, so this was a little unexpected. So, I’ve opened my new sewing machine and am trying it out on her tooth pillow. I don’t remember when it was that I last sewed successfully. When I attempted making my daughters pirate costumes in September, the iron was too heavy and standing to cut was too difficult after being rear ended in June. Then, I tried again a few months ago and my 20+ year old machine finally stopped working even remotely well enough to keep using it. So, here I am. Hopefully this small project is easy enough on my muscles. Not being able to go to the chiropractor because of the pandemic has been painful. I have the new episode of Outlander, a new sewing room, and this literally just out of the box new machine. I’m still working on the kitty butterfly on a flower. Also, I’m still putting together the new sewing area. The closet is pretty organized since I spent 5 hours separating types of fabric. The containers and labeling are a bit eclectic and that works for me. Since I remember things visually, I know that that there’s a certain type of fabric in the fairy bag and another in the red tote. The labels were made with notebook paper and a stapler because that’s what I had in the room. It’s better to be done than perfect in this case for sure. I realized that I already have a fabric that will work for her dress and others that I can add to the patchwork. This blue floral is perfect and so says Holly Hobbie, though! And the small print green floral is going to make some beautiful patches and really add the right feel. They're both 1970's vintage! Gah!! I am so excited!! Happy Ostara visiting as a Bunny! The Barbies got into the spirit of the celebration even though they didn’t get any candy. Ken is super happy to have actual clothing rather than just a washcloth.
