SPOILER ALERT!
Tumblr media
Honestly, I was a bit upset (nope, who was I kidding. A lot upset, more like) when it was revealed that there was another sniper better than Heisuke. I like him very much and I wanted him to be the number one in what he does best because he's the most beautiful when he's sniping. So learning about a "better" sniper felt like a betrayal. Of course this is just me. I like Heisuke so much that I'm being irrational. Point is, I want him to beat the shit out of this new guy. Then he'll be acknowledged by the assassins who didn't believe in him.

Green Giant Legend vs Moon Exploration
Something I thought about after watching Green Giant Legend a few months back really struck me, in that Moon Exploration feels very similar to it in a different flavor of sci-fi.
Of course, I think we all know by now Doraemon movies usually have a consistent thing they have going on in them. Like Suneo freaking out about life ending danger, common thread between most of the movies.
However, it feels like Moon Exploration follows the same beats as Green Giant Legend in terms of overall plot.
I wish I wrote this months earlier, because I feel my more detailed thoughts have vanished as I haven’t even watched Moon Exploration since last year. Maybe one day I can update this to be more precise.
KIBO AND LUCA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two central new characters in their respective movies, difference being is that Kibo is an actually cute mascot type fitting for the feel of it and Luka is a boy pulled from an entirely different anime movie with rabbit ears slapped on top.
Luka has an angsty vibe about him, the mysterious new kid energy- he wishes he was Riruru essentially. Kibo is a cute little tree with energy that reminds you of a little sibling, and he remains as one of the few mascot type characters in a Doraemon movie I like. Right up there with Piisuke and Fuuko, in my book.
The only similarity they truly share is that they are both essentially fuel for weapons, granted Luca shares this trait amongst all the Espal. Point being, they both befriend Nobita and have to be saved in the end from being used to destroy the Earth.
Also, while there is no equivalent to Princess Rire in Moon Exploration, it’s at least notable to say her and Luka both serve to be a leader for their people.
A CRUSH FOR SUNEO
I think this is what made me come to think about the similarities in the first place. In that both films decided that he should have some form of romantic interest, and that said interest honestly could not be in the film and it’d be no different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However Mai and Suneo I thought were quaint, in the sense the plot knew she isn’t part of the grand scope of it. This movie carries a lot of small character moments that don’t add much to the plot, but are great in showing characterization and just being sweet. Mai may not matter overall, but all these small moments add an extra touch to the film that makes it charming.
When it comes to Luna, she is set up to be important to the plot just as Luca is, being his sister. Instead she’s sidelined just as Shizuka is, but remains a film constant. The crush, just like her, feels like it’s kind of just there to be there? Unlike with Green Giant Legend, the small bits of character flavor that do exist don’t feel all that charming. They serve it’s purpose, but it feels very baseline.
That, and when it comes to Mai I feel like I won’t be uncomfortable if she even looks at Suneo wrong. Luna is a thousand and if we aren’t counting that, fifteen years old.
At least the consistent thing is that Suneo likes girls with colored hair? That’s my takeaway.
THE PLOT
It’s about adventures in space, as many Doraemon movies come to be at times. Nobita want to help the Espal, and Nobita wants to help Kibo. Kibo and the Espal are both something far greater than they even want to be. The main crew has to save the earth from a type of world ending destruction powered by the new friends they made, and they all get a sort of match amongst the new characters. Except Shizuka, at least in Moon Exploration she gets the rabbit people Nobita made. I guess?
While I feel like Green Giant Legend has something to say about nature, life and environmental safety... I guess the lesson for Moon Exploration would be don’t use super powered rabbit children as fuel for your weapon? On a less joking note, I’d suppose it’s about appreciating and respecting life as at the end the Espal give up their immortality. I don’t think it really connects to the rest of the movie, or says anything new.
All this being said, I still enjoyed watching Moon Exploration but it really did strike me how it was a much less charming version of Green Giant Legend. You can still watch both and still be entertained, it’s just about how the core of it feels the same but it’s surface doesn’t.

Doraemon Movie Review: Nobita's New Dinosaur (2020)
What is Doraemon? The title character of the Doraemon manga and anime is a blue robotic cat from the 22nd Century who keeps an array of high-tech gadgets in a portable pocket dimension on his belly, and has traveled from the future to improve the fortunes of a hapless schoolboy named Nobita. Although relatively obscure in the English-speaking world, Doraemon is a Mickey-Mouse-level cultural icon in East Asia (and some other regions, too). The Doraemon franchise was a big part of my childhood, and there are still elements of it that I enjoy now.
Doraemon has released theatrical films almost annually since 1980, most of which involve Nobita and his friends (kind Shizuka, brash Gian, and crafty Suneo) getting swept into adventures thanks to Doraemon's gadgets. Despite being of potentially broad appeal to fans of science fiction and animated films, there are very few English reviews of the Doraemon movies, so I'm embarking on a project to write about all the films that have come out so far. Good luck to me…
Tumblr media
Movie premise: Nobita revives a fossilized double-yolked egg that hatches into two feathered dinosaurs.
My spoiler-free take: A good Doraemon movie that manages to differentiate itself from other Mesozoic-themed stories in the franchise while taking inspiration from recent scientific advances.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT
Review: I’ve already shared a few brief thoughts about this movie and discussed some of the scientific references therein. At risk of repeating myself too much, I was generally impressed by the amount of up-to-date paleontological research it incorporates and even builds important plot points around. No, the portrayal of bird evolution in this movie is not particularly accurate to our current understanding, but like I’ve said before, I appreciated that the dinosaurian origin of birds was a primary theme here, and it’s certainly an appropriate angle for a 2020 movie about dinosaurs to tackle. As mainstream movies go, Nobita’s New Dinosaur stands out in how much respect it pays to its scientific inspirations.
As for the story itself, I was originally apprehensive about how this film would be able to distinguish itself from Nobita’s Dinosaur. However, though the beginning plays out in a similar way (probably intentionally so), I felt that the second half of this movie carves out its own niche quite nicely. If anything, the climax here has more parallels with Nobita and the Knights on Dinosaurs in how it involves the end-Cretaceous mass extinction and reveals that there’s no true villain in the story. In a way, I think Nobita's New Dinosaur combines the narrative strengths of those two previous Mesozoic-themed tales. Nobita raising two dinosaurs is a more engaging setup than Suneo running around under the impression that he’s hallucinating in Nobita and the Knights on Dinosaurs, whereas the protagonists’ actions turning out to have a major impact on the history of life on Earth gives the plot slightly more depth and complexity than the straightforward “boy and his pet” story of Nobita’s Dinosaur.
If I have any (non-scientific) criticism for this movie, it may be the cameo from Piisuke, the plesiosaur from Nobita’s Dinosaur. Although touching and well-intended, Piisuke’s appearance raises some confusing questions about continuity. Some parts of this movie (such as Nobita’s friends lacking faith in the possibility that he could find living dinosaurs) imply that it takes place in a separate continuity from Nobita’s Dinosaur, but Piisuke showing up, complete with Nobita getting a flashback to their time together, seems to run counter to this premise. The fact that Nobita never fully realizes that Piisuke is there (as Piisuke rescues him while he is drowning and departs before he regains consciousness) might also be disappointing.
Star rating: ★★★★☆

First doraemon’s movie and remake
(spoilers)
Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur, is the name of a doraemon movie and the remake of it. The original is Doraemon's first feature film and it was released in 1980. The remake, also called Doraemon and the Little Dinosaur, is the first doraemon’s remake and it was released in 2006.
Both movies have the same plot, it all starts with Suneo showing their friends a fossil of a tyrannosaurus rex's claw. Nobita wasn't able to see it, so he got upset and said that he is going to find a complete fossil. Nobita is not supported by Doraemon, so he goes to dig on his own. Nobita ends up in the backyard of a man, when he gets caught, he has to dig a hole as a favor. While doing that He finds a dinosaur egg. Later, he uses the time-wrap, and starts to take care of the egg until it is born. Then a plesiosaur comes out, which Nobita calls Piisuke and decides to keep it a secret until it grows enough to impress his friends. When Piisuke is too big to live in the house, Nobita takes it to a lake. The problems begin when rumors say a dinosaur is in the lake. Nobita decides it's time for Piisuke to go. Things go wrong cause a dinosaur hunter is going for Pissuke, so it ends in the correct period but in a bad location. Nobita and his friends from him go back in time. Doraemon notices the time-machine is broken and they can't go back. They end up using bamboo-copters to travel to japan with little pisuke. Finally they confront the hunters and resist until the police of time arrive. Nobita says the last goodbye to Piisuke and everyone goes back safe.
on the left is 1980 and on the right is 2006
That is the plot of the movies in broad strokes, but despite being very similar there are some differences. There are three main differences that I noticed: the animation, the dinosaurs, and a more family-friendly approach.
Image quality and lights were very different, also the 2006 movie had 3D elements. I think the 26-year difference between movies is easily noticeable. One thing that is retained is the design of the main characters and the art style.
2006
  1980
The dinosaur designs were notoriously different, because in the remake it was very clear that cute and more expressive dinosaurs were good. The cute dinosaurs had round and soft traits and expressive eyes.
on the top is 1980 and at the bottom is 2006
Meanwhile, the others had small eyes, sharp teeth, and looked more like the real dino. In both movies, the scary dinosaurs from the beginning are alike.
on the top is 1980 and at the bottom is 2006
Also, when doraemon used the magic candy to make the tyrannosaurus docile, the difference between scary and friendly is clear, but different in every movie.
On the other hand, what changed the most is how these two species of dinosaurs are like the idea of them in each of their eras.
on the top is 1980 and at the bottom is 2006
1980
2006
In the first movie the running dinosaur was more like a lizard and it had an artificial color, contrasting with the feathered dinosaur of the 2006 movie. The one that changed the most in my opinion is the T-rex, in the first movie it looked like Godzilla. Researching, I found how Tyranous was shown and I think it is very similar to the 1980 movie.
T-rex from Fantasia, 1940
As well, I found an image that shows the different interpretations of tyrannus during the years and it coincides with both movies.
Finally, watching the remake I noticed that some scenes were a little bit longer, the characters were nicer to Nobita and some things changed to a friendlier version. The best examples for this are the scenes when the man asked Nobita to make a hole and when Nobita's father talked with his son.
dad scene: on the top is 1980, dad is fighting with Nobita; and at the bottom is 2006, the father tries to reason with Nobita.
digging a hole scene: on the top is 1980, the man is mostly angry and his mood doesn't change much; and at the bottom is 2006, even when he's angry, he's still nice to Nobita most of the time.
This caught my attention because it was obvious why they changed those things, it's to make the movie feel warm and enjoyable, and it makes a lot of sense considering Doraemon has a children's audience.
