no no it's fine just the fact that they were invited into each other's respective homes/safe spaces and introduced to their closest family members while being shown a specific soft side of themselves that they rarely display in front of others even though they think it's embarrassing got to me

Next Uncle’s Day rolls around and Roy doesn’t mention it to Jamie, of course, because Roy’s not in charge of planning this party, is he, all he has to do is show up and act excited about whatever colourful gifts will be inflicted upon him this year. Only, once he’s sat in his sister’s kitchen Jamie isn’t there and he keeps on not being there and when Roy finally breaks and asks Phoebe when he’s showing up Phoebe looks a bit confused and says you didn’t seem that happy to have him here last year so I didn’t ask him this time and Roy has no fucking idea what to say to that because it’s really fucking stupid to be sad over someone who’s absolutely NOT your best friend failing to show for a made-up holiday, and this whole thing isn’t REALLY about Roy anyway, it’s about Phoebe, so um.
Roy gets it together and nods and mutters yeah, all right, but it’d be fine though, you know, if you wanted to invite him next year
and no sooner has he spoken than THE DOOR FROM THE OTHER ROOM SWINGS OPEN AND JAMIE STRUTS INSIDE, grinning in TRIUMPH, like ha! you lasted all of half an hour before you started asking about me, I fudging knew you wanted me here, you grumpy old man
and Roy stares and stares and turns to Phoebe in utter betrayal but she just shrugs serenely, Jamie said it’d be fun to surprise you and anyway it wasn’t very nice of you to say he wasn’t your best friend last year, Uncle Roy
He said I wasn’t his either! Roy CANNOT believe this is happening to him.
Calm down, Uncle Roy, or you’ll have a heart attack before you can open my gift, Jamie says, smiling broadly and sounding so very, very smug.
His eyes are soft, though. The gift is very thoughtful. Roy will not admit it, but it makes a good time even better, having him there.
Roy’s sister just watches the entire thing unfold, thinking that nothing in Roy’s life has ever vexed and delighted him quite as much as Jamie Tartt does, and it’s all sorts of deeply amusing and very sweet.

I want to know how Phoebe went about getting Jamie to come to Roy’s party. Did she craft a very glitter invitation? Did she and her mom show up at the club at a time when they knew Uncle Roy wasn’t there and ask a very underpaid member of the office staff to let them see Jamie Tartt? Did that staff member call Leslie and Leslie was all to eager to do this favor for Roy’s niece? (Is Phoebe Diamond Dog-adjacent? Diamond Puppy?)
So did Jamie get called up to Leslie’s office only to find Phoebe grinning madly and handing him the glitter invitation and listening as she explained the importance of Uncle’s Day and how it was a gifts required type of holiday and since he’s Uncle Roy’s best friend he has to come?
Did Jamie accept the invitation immediately and secretly preen a bit that Roy talks about him a lot? And since when did he start caring that Roy likes him enough to talk about him? Since when are he and Roy FRIENDS?
But if Phoebe says so it must be true. The glitter invitation is proof.
He orders the jersey ten minutes after Phoebe leaves, giggling about Roy’s reaction as he does. Because they’re friends.

Ok but how did Phoebe contact Jamie to invite him to uncles day? Did she email him? Slide into his dms using her hot moms Twitter account? Accost him in the Richmond parking lot? I need answers
I truly think Jamie has met Phoebe before (because of course he has, he hangs out with Roy all the time. Roy is constantly talking about him to the point where Phoebe has no choice but to assume Roy would want him there with him on the best holiday of the year). And therefore he has at least briefly met Phoebe's mother in past.
So probably, Roy gave Jamie's number to his sister just in case, because I like to think Roy gets paranoid over insane scenarios he's made up in his head and convinced himself could absolutely definitely happen, and Jamie is low-key his emergency contact now, and it spirals from there. Roy's brain at 3:00 a.m. while he’s getting ready to go over to Jamie's house, running non-stop like: "but what if my sister needs to call me about something urgent that's happened to Phoebe but I'm unreachable because my knee gave out while Jamie and I were jogging by the Thames and when I went down my phone flew out of my pocket and shattered along the concrete and when Jamie was helping me up he accidentally kicked it into the water? So then when she can’t reach me my sister tries to call Keeley, but of course Keeley's not up because it's 5:00 a.m. so she also misses this important call...but wait!...who do I always happen to be with who also happens to be attached at the hip to his cell phone and would never ever miss a call?" and that is how he gruffly slides his sister Jamie Tartt's cell phone number written on a slip of paper in his terrible chicken-scratch and tells her to put it in her phone contact list strictly for emergencies.
Roy's sister of course recognizes the power she wields here and abuses it immediately. amen.

PLEASE SOMEONE WRITE THE INTERACTION BETWEEN PHOEBE AND JAMIE TARTT AS SHE INVITES HIM TO UNCLES DAY
The things that had to HAPPEN to make that scene happen!!!!
Phoebe (or more likely her mum) had to get Jamie Tartt's contact info
One of them had to call or text or email Jamie and extend an invitation (I expect it was Phoebe's mom who made the call and then handed the phone off to Phoebe, just based on the scene)
Explain to him what Uncle's Day is
And that he's invited
And that he should bring a gift
And he says YES which, bff or not, you gotta admit Phoebe's mom was probably surprised
Phoebe, of course, expected nothing less
The fucking delight Jamie would have had at the invitation
He gets to surprise Roy
He gets to mess with Roy
He gets to meet Roy's family
There will be hats! And Cake! You know he's so all about both
And it's a small little family thing, you bet Jamie 'I just wanted to make me mum proud' Tartt's heart grew three sizes when he heard that
Just... LOL

Okay but where’s the deleted scene where phoebe’s mom gets Jamie’s contact info and phoebe calls OR sends him a handmade invitation to the uncle’s day party

Roy x Jamie Prompt:
Two cakes prompt (though I've seen more mentions of this happening than it being the focus of the fic)
Phoebe invites Jamie to uncle's day as her uncle.

Spent a very pleasureable hour imagining Roy's sister's face when Phoebe tells her that she wants to invite Jamie to Uncle's Day because unlike Phoebe the good doctor knows that their relationship is hella lot more complicated than just 'best friends' and she is already lowkey giddy with excitement over how Roy is going to react to this because any day that annoys Roy is holiday to her, but at the same time she does adore her brother and wants him to be happy and it's not like Phoebe is wrong, is it, and it's just good to have Roy make a friend and be invested in something/someone again... Grumpy old twat needs it.
Just something about her knowing that this whole thing will both genuinely annoy and genuinly be nice for Roy. It's like a little sister's jackpot, isn't it?
Fucking brilliant. I adore Dr. O'Sullivan and is very happy this happened to her.

It wasn't Roy's birthday, which makes this more insane. It was the fictional "Uncle's Day." Roy's birthday is a separate yet almost as important holiday. But this wasn't Jamie coming over for Roy's birthday, it was Jamie coming over for a made up holiday because Phoebe asked and, I think, because he wanted to use the opportunity share his love and gratitude for Roy in regards to helping him reach his England call up.
Happy Uncle’s Day, everyone.
omg i was so caught up with the whole royjamie of it all, my bad *UNCLES DAY
which means phoebe inviting jamie makes him uncle jamie…even if unspoken. I WILL TAKE IT
thanks for the correction anon!

remembered that the first reaction roy has to jamie being surprise invited to uncle’s day is giving his sister a Look like he instantly knows she was the instigator. (not because jamie greeted her) based on how much he talks about jamie “all the time” in pretend grievance prob both to her and phoebe, and clearly has training overlap with family plans enough for them to have met him before. does lil sis kent tease roy about having a new best friend too❓is this her latest attempt at a roy kent matchmaking service⁉️ like. a private play with intermission for an intimate party of 2. did they sit there in silence and make small talk while the girls prepared backstage. how long was this performance. she’s so me honestly
