Pei Ming Week Day 4: Sacrifice
Today I give you 3 drabbles because I went from having no ideas to multiple ideas! xD
Huge thank you to @kefis for the prompts @ococor for cheerleading <3
The first two are sort of related, the last one is not
I.
“I still say we should be helping Xianle,” Pei Ming grumbles. “This is disgraceful.”
“Yong’an is the practical choice,” Rong Guang replies. “Xianle’s fall is a given. May as well farm goodwill with the future king.”
Xianle has their prince, Pei Ming wants to retort, but the words taste like bile. Once again, his mind is dragged to Yushi, to the beloved queen that won her kingdom a scant few months. Already they don’t speak of her.
Is Xianle’s god-pleasing prince doomed to the same fate?
Rong Guang pats his shoulder.
“There’s nothing praiseworthy about self-sacrifice. You should remember that.”
II.
“For his Highness,” the scrawny excuse of a soldier mutters as he swings his splintered practice sword.
So young, head wrapped in bandages, a sword slipping from his grip, and still ready to sacrifice everything for some prince.
There are many things Pei Ming wants to say to him. Dozens of scoldings, criticisms of his priorities –
“Hey,” he called out despite himself. “Your sword grip is wrong.”
Pei Ming gives some pointers and leaves, saluting the soldier in his heart.
He doesn’t know why he’s bothering. This child won’t survive the battlefield anyway.
His prince will never know his sacrifice.
III.
“How could you do this?” Pei Ming shouts. “This is your future – your divinity! How could you just throw it all away? And for a girl!”
Pei Xiu forehead smacks against the ground. “I have no regrets, General,” he pleads, voice quivering with emotion unfelt in two hundred years. “She sacrificed everything for my ambitions. She never deserved her fate. Even if I’m to be a disappointment in your eyes, this path for her freedom is a small price – please understand.”
Pei Ming does not understand.
Despite being heralded as the God of Love, he’s not much of a romantic.

Pei Ming Week Day 7: One more drabble because why not
This suddenly came to me and refused to leave me alone
“I get it, you know,” Pei Ming slurs. He’s drunk beyond reason, and most of what he says now is nonsense. “Love! Love is the ultimate weakness!”
Complete nonsense, and yet Ling Wen feels compelled to ask. “What is it now?”
“I’m a fucking general. My orders are absolute. But that brat – it’s love so it doesn’t work.” Deliriously, he points at Ling Wen. “It’s the same for that thing. When you love them, you can’t control them.”
From there, he downs more wine.
Ling Wen frowns, suddenly uncomfortable.
Shi Wudu shakes his head.
“I don’t get it at all.”
Setting: the night that Pei Xiu is banished

Pei Ming Week Day 7: Free Day
Free Day!
This is an AU I've always wanted to write (but probably never will) but at least I can share 100 words from it :3
When Shi Qingxuan thought about it, babies weren’t a common sight in the Heavenly Capital, and heaven officials with them even less so.
“Good child. Who’s a good child!” Pei Ming bounced the baby in his arms, looking his happiest in centuries.
It was surreal.
“Can I have him back now?” Shi Qingxuan grumbled, arm held out.
The answer was no, he could not.
“If only your uncle could see you,” Pei Ming cooed with the goofiest grin. “Don’t worry. I’ll dote on you enough for him as well.”
Shi Qingxuan groaned. He would never be rid of Pei Ming!

Pei Ming Week Day 6: Hero
crack fic fills continues but also this has always been one of my headcanons too xD

Shi Qingxuan was silent. He was also bright red, gaze glued to the floor.
Pei Ming gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder, then made his exit to the room where his friends sat. Shi Wudu wore the same expression as his brother without the blush. Ling Wen burst out laughing as soon as she saw him.
Pei Ming ignored her.
“It’s done,” he instead said to Shi Wudu. “Several critical gaps in our little Qingxuan’s education are now filled. And do you have anything to say for yourself?”
“My hero.” Despite Shi Wudu’s venomous sarcasm, he meant it.

(yesterday i gave y'all serious fic so today you have to put up with crack =D)
Pei Ming sighed. It was his eighth sigh that hour, and thirty-sixth that day. At least that Ling Wen witnessed. There were many more sighs she didn’t.
“How long is he going to be like this?” Shi Wudu finally asked.
“It’s been a decade since he’s seen the Rain Master. You have to give him time,” Ling Wen chided, smirk barely contained. “This time they’d even managed to talk.”
“You’d think the God of Love wouldn’t be this pathetic.” The two of them had their laugh.
Sitting by the window, Pei Ming sighed again.
“That frame. That face. Those muscles.”

Day 2 Drabble
“So did it really happen like that?” Rong Guang asks, splayed out across the sofa. “The General who Broke his Sword.”
“You absorbed the sword’s essence. Shouldn’t you know?”
“I want to hear it from you.”
“Well what do you think?”
“Unrealistic.”
Pei Ming scoffs. For anyone else, he’d have a carefree shrug while gauging their interest in his tale to determine their continued associations.
But this isn’t anyone else. It’s Rong Guang.
Did he deserve the full version – the stay in prison, the interrogations, the forced confessions, the smuggled-in white cloth?
Pei Ming shrugs. “It’s as the story goes.”
