i don't think i saw any plants on arrakis in the new dune movies, it's disappointing. in the book, yes the landscape is mostly sand and rocks, but there are also flowers and saguaro and desert grasses, and they're important

#so i woke up really early #and that was okay cos inwatched avs while i loaded the dishwasher and fed henry (cat not popstar) and washed my face and logged into work #four day weekends are so nice but my bosses emails ugh #i managed to have three meetings #one of which i had to contribute a lot to #and get a ministerial response completed while watching that utterly borked nucks match #and now i am having morning tea and feeling good #ive decided its not too late to plant sweet peas #i couldn't do it cos of surgery but look its still Autumn..#and idk i just feel gd about this week #i am enjoying organising the house in a low pressure way and writing my fic and i see neil on wed #and it is mamas birthday on Saturday so on Friday my sisters and i will have dinner at a nice place by the harbour #near where she wants her ashes scattered under the bridge where you walk round the corner and see soh #and we'll talk about things she would have hated and things she would have loved since she died #and I'll cry into my sydney rock oysters and miss her #but im missing her as i stand in the kitchen typing this waiting for the kettle to boil so you know #silv rambles #sorry i just do this on whichever blog im using the most #block the silv rambles tag if its super annoying

Lathyrus latifolius (perrenial pea vine)

We have a lovely native beach pea, Lathyrus japonicus, in Vancouver but this is the invasive perennial pea vine, Lathyrus latifolius. This plant is found growing throughout North America but it was originally from southern Europe. The easy way to tell the difference between this species and the familiar look-alike garden sweet pea, Lathyrus odoratus, is to smell them. Perennial pea vines are completely odorless whereas the fragrance of the sweet pea is simply divine.

#song of the day #it's not at all summer yet but it is spring!!#it's chilly when the wind blows and the dew-damp sticks around until noon but the sun is out and the sky is maybe not clear but close!#spring!!!!#I put my first early plantings in the garden today #I had planned for a bunch of marigolds but I got a different batch of flowers instead #so now what's down is rootings for a bunch of perennial flowers #sea holly and red-hot pokers and butterfly weed and hollyhocks #and then my little pea plants #I told Kelly I'd share pictures but for today it only looks like a square of dirt--I'll definitely share pics when my sprouts come in!!#beautiful beautiful garden times #summer of 2010 when this song came out was the first time in three-ish years I'd spent much continuous time with my family #my littlest siblings were old enough to be away from Mom for a while and still young enough to be lulled to sleep by the car #and Mom was very eager to be left home alone to sleep (and play this weird chicken bowling game she was briefly addicted to)#and so we went on a lot of long leisurely pointless car rides and we listed to a lot of #(I will never not hear this in my head) 96.9 The Kat! country music radio #and this got added to the short list of songs I sang to myself #it's so catchy!! cute fun moderately-bouncy little earworm and my voice cruises up and down it so easy #'when the days start gettin warmer / the sun starts sinkin slower / weekends go by faster / and beer starts tastin colder #wanna tune into a station / takes me on a soul vacation / hey there mister dj / come on won't you please play'#and crucially Dad did not mind this song--which could not be said for 'There Is No Arizona' by Jamie O'Neal #or (after I sang it approximately ninety million times) 'Just What I Do' by Trick Pony #we also had--this was very fun for me--we had exactly one CD we could play in the car (because it was stuck in the disk player)#and that was Joe Diffie's 'Third Rock From The Sun'#so many songs of absolute joy on that album. lucky as hell that Dad agreed because it meant we'd crank it up so loud #close my eyes and let the sun shine all red through my eyelids #sing some real dumbass enjoyable-as-all-getout songs at the top of my absolute voice #Dad laughing and singing along and the littles sleeping through the all of it like the precious babies they were #these are the songs of sunshine and pointless happiness! it's not summer but it will be! my garden doesn't have plants yet but it will!#sing a song!!

today's [ although the day has almost ended ] [28th] marked my first year anniversary of the dgm/exorcist au! I'm kinda glad I haven't given up on this au even though it has rotten my brain with some dark content I make with my own mind...

[ This piece will forever be my greatest accidental achievement...posted this on Twitter for the 3 yrs of the lads collaboration, barely posted on that site, and um haha...someone in the group liked it...]

Anyway, I will be writing more of the au right at the moment...even though chapter 7 is a bit depressing to write...

So ill need to reweigh after I add water to the barrel to double check BUT I should be able to tumble all the rocks ive chosen to do this first run

Its a 3 pound weight limit and this is just under 2.5 pounds

Im really excited cuz I have one of my bigger pieces of rose quartz in there. Actually I have 2 of my bigger pieces of rose quartz cuz the piece that came with the tumblr is almost as big as my smaller chunk I already had

The biggest one for scale

The biggest one fits in the tumbler.......if I throw some smaller rocks and tumbling media in to fill up the empty space i MAY be able to tumble it as well which is extremely tempting....im also afraid of fucking it up tho so idk lol

#theres a couple in there i could probably skip step one on if the barrel is too heavy with the water #so i could possibly just add them back for step 2 #also might toss in some pea gravel (which i believe is mostly chert/quartz) from my back patio instead of tumbling media #this kit unfortunately came with plastic tumbling media #i have some ceramic coming with more grit since it only supplies you with enough for one cycle for each step #i shouldnt need tumbling media in this first run #rock tumbling
