For almost six weeks he had been sneaking into her bedroom at night, completely unseen to anyone. Not even the boy who spent the majority of his days on his couch, passed out or begging for a fix.
This time it was his turn to beg.
He crawled through the window - left open like always for him - and tossed his legs through in to her bedroom. He grunted when her body collided with his in the dark, sending him backwards towards the wall.
"We said 11pm. It's 11:17pm." She mumbled as she pressed on her toes to wrap her arms around his neck.
"Sorry. Got wrapped up in some shit. Thought I forgot?" He smirked as he hitched at the waist to wrap his arms around her, reciprocating her affection.
"Yes." She whispered into his shoulder as her fingertips curled into the material of his coveralls.
Barry only lifted her up in response, always amazed that a girl with a brother the size of Rafe Cameron could be so tiny. He carried her over to her bed and laid her on her back, crawling on top of her to take up the space between her thighs. He placed feather-light kisses down her neck, a smile on his face as she pulled at his coveralls.
"Hey, Tiny. I need to borrow some fucking cash. You don't still have that stupid piggy bank or some shit - what the fuck is this?" Rafe came stomping into her bedroom without knocking and flicked the lights on, his hands pushing all the trinkets and books off her dresser as he searched.
"Rafe, what the fuck! Knock first, asshole!" She screamed as she tossed a decorative pillow off her bed and towards her older brother who stood dumbfounded on the other side of her bedroom.
"The fuck is this? Why is he here?" Rafe questioned as he pointed his index finger at the older man on top of his younger sister.
"What's up, Country Club?" Barry smirked as he turned his face to look at Rafe, as if he weren't on top of his little sister.
"T.C, he has to leave. Now. I'm fucking serious." Rafe grumbled with a stern look, a pinch of his nostrils and then exited her bedroom with a slam of the door.
"T.C?" Barry grinned as he propped himself up on his arms above her and looked down at her embarrassed face.
"Tiny Cameron." She sighed as she pressed one hand to his lower back and the other to her forehead.
"That's cute. Shit's real cute. He take money from you a lot?" Barry asked as he leaned his weight on one forearm to run his fingertips over his top lip.
"Not a lot. Sometimes. Mostly takes it from dad, but he asks for money a lot more often now. I'm assuming it's to pay you." She replied softly.
"Some of it. Your brother got a nice new bike out there and he still runnin' up a tab with me, so..." Barry trailed as he placed his hand back down beside her on the bed.
"Don't get me started on that stupid dirt bike." She sighed as she rolled her head back on the sheets.
"Listen, I'm gonna go. I can hear him pacing outside that fucking door. But don't let him take your money, T.C." Barry winked before he gave her a quick kiss on her lips and pulled himself off the bed, heading back towards the window.
"Fuck you, Barry." She whined with a pout, sitting up on the bed to watch him leave.
"Next time." He grinned, flashing her his gold tooth.

It had been close to one week since the night Rafe had caught Barry in his little sister's room, and since then his debt had grown exponentially. Rafe felt overwhelmed and reckless as he entered the combination to his father's wall safe. Perhaps that's why he got caught.
"Dad, I swear I learned my lesson. Okay? Let's not do this. Please." Rafe begged from the front seat of his father's S.U.V as they idled out front of Barry's house.
"Stay in the car." Ward ordered as he unbuckled his seat belt and opened his door.
Ward Cameron walked up the dirt path, lit by the lights of his vehicle and pulled his wallet from his back pocket. He saw the young man sitting at the fire pit, a bottle of liquor in his hand.
"Are you Barry?" He called as he opened his wallet and began to count the bills.
"Might be. You lost?" Barry asked as he took a swig of the whiskey in his hand and looked over the clean cut older man standing a few feet in front of him.
"No. My son Rafe owes you money. I'm here to pay his tab." Ward replied with a shake of his head as he pulled out the wad of cash, and folded it in half.
"Big Daddy Cameron, huh?" Barry smirked as he stood up from his chair and took a few steps towards Ward.
"That should cover it. Don't sell my son drugs anymore." Ward growled as he tossed the cash on the ground at Barry's feet and turned to walk away.
"Got no problem not selling drugs to your delinquent son. But it's your daughter who might have a problem staying away from me." Barry replied his stance strong as he watched Ward Cameron stop dead in his tracks, his back rigid.
"Sarah?" Ward asked as he turned around, his eyes wide as he looked the dealer up then down.
"You forget you have more than one daughter, don't you? Talking about the little one. Think Rafe calls her...T.C?" Barry replied as he pushed his hands into his pockets.
Ward Cameron ran a shaky hand over his beard as he continued to stare at Barry. He turned to leave, but changed his mind and stalked back over to him, and stood directly in front of the shorter man.
"Stay away from my family. My son and especially my daughter." Ward growled a finger pressed into Barry's chest before he turned on his heel and stomped back towards the S.U.V.
"Big Daddy Cameron." Barry scoffed with a shake of his head as he crouched down to pick up the bills on the ground. He knew he had just lit a match under the Cameron patriarch, but he was fine with it.
Back at Tannyhill Rafe walked quickly into the house and up the stairs, his head hung low as he blinked back tears. He walked passed each of his sisters' rooms towards his own, stopping at the one of the left.
"T.C, better gear up. Dad knows about Barry. He's coming upstairs. Fire is lit." Rafe grumbled with a sniff and then made his way towards his bedroom with a slam of his door.
"What do you mean dad knows about - Hi, daddy." She mumbled as she scrambled off the bed after her brother, only to be met in the doorway by a livid Ward Cameron.
"How long?" Ward asked as he tried to keep his voice even, despite the way his body shook with pure anger. He had one daughter running around on The Cut, a son stealing from him to pay for his drug habit, and now his other daughter - his baby - was sleeping with that drug dealer.
What had he done wrong?
"Since I got home from school. Rafe introduced us at a party." She replied softly, avoiding her father's gaze.
"Are you snorting that shit like Rafe is?" Ward asked, his voice just a whisper and terrified.
"No, dad. I'm not. I swear. It's not like that with Barry. He likes me. He likes me a lot, and we're just hanging out together." She replied quickly as she reached for her father, her hands on his wrists that hung at his sides.
"But you're sleeping with him." Ward scoffed with a glare down at her. So tiny. Just like her mother. Everything about her reminded him of his first wife.
"I...I mean, yes. We're sleeping together. I go and visit him, and he comes over here sometimes." She nodded with a squeeze of his wrists.
"T.C, he comes here? To my house?" Ward glared down at his daughter.
"Dad, I -"
"I can't look at you right now." Ward grumbled as he pulled his wrists from her grip, rubbed his face and walked out of her bedroom, down the hall to his office.
"Shit." She whispered, pushing her hands through her hair. She walked back into her room, over to her desk and grabbed her bag. She walked over to her window, slid it open as quietly as she could and climbed out.
The knock at Barry's door was a surprise. He was expecting no visitors. He slowly raised his body up from the tattered couch, grabbed his gun from the waistband of his pants and walked cautiously to the front door.
"What you want?" He yelled, gun raised.
"It's me, you ass." Her sad voice sobbed back with a slam of her fist against the door once again.
"Fuck." Barry sighed as he reached for the several locking mechanisms on his door and let her in.
"What the fuck did you say to my dad!" She cried with a push of his strong chest.
Barry stood in the doorway and took each hit to the chest. He knew he may have overstepped a boundary or two that night, telling Ward Cameron he was sleeping with his daughter. But, he didn't like to have people come up to his home uninvited, telling him what to do and who to see. So he bit back.
"Stop. Listen to me. He came over here with your brother in the car, tossed money at me and told me to stop selling to Rafe." Barry muttered as he grabbed her wrists then held them against his chest to keep her close.
"And what did you say?" She struggled in his arms and looked up at him with those eyes that were all Cameron. He wished he didn't like them so much.
"I told him that was fine, but he might have an issue keeping his little girl out of my bed." Barry replied with a slight smirk, his gold tooth taking hold of his bottom lip.
"That isn't funny, Barry." She pouted up at him as she struggled to pull her wrists from his grip.
"It's a little funny."
"My dad is livid, Barry! Rafe is holed up in bedroom doing and thinking who knows what. And I - " She pulled her wrists from his grasp and stepped into his small home, beginning to pace.
"They ain't an issue for you anymore. Rafe's tab is paid, and now Big Daddy Cameron knows about us. So, I don't know what's got your panties in such a twist. But you should take them off if they're bothering you so much." Barry muttered as he ran his fingertips over his top lip, and leaned against the door frame as he watched her.
"No. I'm mad at you." She whispered as she crossed her arms over her chest, looking at him with a furrowed brow.
"Nipples say otherwise." Barry muttered with a point to her chest, pushed up under her forearms.
"Don't!" She whined as she covered her breasts from his view.
She was mad at him. It was the first time in the few weeks they had been dating she had felt angry with him. She scowled as she looked him up then down as he stayed leaned up against the door frame. The both of them challenging the other to make the first move.
"Well, are you staying the night or did you just come to yell at me and flash your nipples in my fucking face?" Barry grunted as he pushed himself off the door frame and slowly made his way towards the back of the house, slipping his gun back in the waistband of his pants.
"They aren't in your face." She mumbled but followed him towards his bedroom with a shuffle of her feet.
Barry sat on the edge of the bed, pulling the gun from the waistband of his pants and placing it delicately on his nightstand. He spread his knees and beckoned her over with a wave of his hand.
"I'm mad at you." She stated with her arms crossed over her chest still, looking him over. She did as instructed, though, walking over to his slowly and stood between his knees.
"Well. I don't wanna be mad at you." Barry replied as he placed his hands on her hips to pull her against his chest.
"You shouldn't have said those things to my dad, Barry." She whispered as she uncrossed her arms and placed her palms on his shoulders.
"I was right, wasn't I? You busted out the house and now you're here with me, ain't you?" Barry grinned up at her as his fingertips pushed up the hem of her shirt to touch her skin, still warm from her bike ride over.
"Well, yeah. But that doesn't mean you have to say it to my dad. Asshole." She pouted as she slapped his chest playfully before she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I could have said way worse shit to him than that. Like how you liked to be tied up." Barry chuckled as he placed his hands on her backside and raised his eyebrows at her. He grabbed at her elbows, lifting her arms from around his neck and held her arms behind her back.
"Barry." She whined as she dropped her forehead to his.
"Guess I'll save that one for next time." Barry muttered as he kept his grip on her arms behind her back strong, but leaned in to press his lips to hers.
"Be nice to me." She pouted against his lips as she struggled weakly in his grip.
"No. You gotta make up for your dad coming in and fucking up my night." Barry smirked as he held her wrists behind her back with one hand as the other reached to the front of her shirt, pushing it beneath her breasts.
"I knew you had a daddy kink, Barry. But if you wanna fuck my dad that's a deal breaker for me." She grinned as she squirmed in his grip.
"Get on your hands and knees. Tiny Cameron." Barry growled as he let her wrists go and slapped her backside firmly.
"Ow! Fuck you." She whined as she crawled over his lap and onto the bed.
"About time." Barry mumbled as he stood up, turning the face the bed to see her back arched the way liked. He ran his thumb over his top lip and smiled softly to himself.
He wasn't going to stop selling to Rafe Cameron, that was something Rafe had to decide for himself. And he certainly wasn't going to stop seeing or sleeping with the girl currently in his bed, wiggling her ass at him for his attention.
Ward Cameron would have to kill him first.

Summary:
In this universe, you don’t meet your perfect match by happenstance. You’ve grown up with them, maybe not physically, but they’ve always been there. In your mind. Speaking to you.
In this universe, humans are not the most powerful, and there’s pockets of our world that lead to the other. To the fae. And there’s so much more to them, than can ever be understood.
Eijun and Youichi. They stand upon the divide.
Very rarely, a matched pair is an untoward coupling between the courts. As the reader must know, having read the previous section, the fae courts have never gotten along, though grudging alliances have been known to form. However, above the machinations of the four seasons, are the matched pairs.
Traditionally, the mismatched pair is accepted by their respective courts, but history has shown that these fae soon become untethered. Not much is known about these pairs as they often disappear into obscurity soon after their coupling.
However, the only pairing that is even further misunderstood is that of the matches from outside the courts. The topic is taboo among the fae, thus very little has crossed over into our world, even as we are the ones helping the problem.
See appendix B for information on deaths from mismatched pairings.
An excerpt from the codex of “Faerie Courts and the Matched” by Tanba Kouichirou (153 BC)
The branches of the trees around them shook joyfully, letting leaves fall gracefully down to their final resting place on the forest floor. Their normal path would be to eventual decay, to feed the earth with the nutrients they’d been collecting and storing for months. However, a few of these leaves would be taken by some small woodland creatures as food, some as protection from the fluctuating weather patterns – an emotional fae changed the forest within moments.
And yet some didn’t get used naturally, but in this case, froze to the very ground they had fallen onto. As the gentle but purposeful placement of slipper-covered feet brushed against the ground, the ice spread, covering more and more of the ground. But at no point did the chill touch the surrounding trees, only freezing the dead leaves. Emotional control wouldn’t be something that Satoru would be known for, not now and not in the future – his aura burnt fiery and cold. However, with a hand clenched tightly in his own, he found enough discipline to restrict his powers, even the slightest.
It helped that for every step he took, Haruichi’s own powers acted to soothe the agitation by growing small plants in every frozen space. He had been alive a bit longer than Satoru and had learnt to keep his powers under a tight hand. His brother would not have allowed for anything less than perfection. So he fixed the issue, internally apologizing to every woodland creature that had to keep their distance because of Satoru, but he couldn’t blame his matched, it had only been three sun-moon cycles since his birth.
But now, with Eijun’s blessing, Haruichi felt a small part of him relax. He could tell that his relief was apparent on his face, but for once in his life, he put little stock into what others could glean from his facial expressions. He knew how much it had hurt Eijun to go day after day without talking to his own matched, it had hurt Haruichi even now to think of the day, the seasons, that he’d gone without being able to speak to Satoru. But he, himself, was only a few decades of cycles old, which compared to the centuries that Eijun had been alone, was almost impossible to understand. He knew that if it had been any other fae who’d been alone for this long, they might not have been able to hold on for so long. But Eijun was strong, one of the strongest he knew. If there was anyone who could hold on for this long, it would be him. But even then, every time he’d seen Eijun, it seemed like the bags under his eyes grew, and the weight that rested in his shoulders pushed him even further down. But it wasn’t till he saw how pale Eijun looked, the fae was normally a beautiful golden tan from his time spent outside, that he actually became concerned.
Pale was only a step above translucent.
He was jolted out of his somber thoughts by a pleasant hum rushing into his mind. Still hearing the light warbling in his head, he glanced to his right to see a small blush bloom of Satoru’s face. Smiling to himself, he began humming out loud in conjunction with the song Satoru was thinking at him, and felt a similar pink tinge growing on his face. Both had come to a pause in their walking, and Haruichi found himself glancing up at Satoru’s face, eyes roaming over the pale skin, the crystalline blue eyes that were just a bit warmer than they had been back at Eijun’s house – he blushed again at the meaning behind the warmth. Frost-tipped ears that were flecked with navy peaked out from between his hair, making him frown slightly. What had seemed so unique and beautiful a moment ago, now only heightened the differences between them, and the chasm this created. He could tell when his thoughts had crossed over to his facial expressions, when Satoru squeezed his hands gently. Shaking his head he smiled down at their joined hands.
They would have continued staring at each other happily had they both not sensed a change in the air around them. The drop in temperature couple with a few of the weaker plants curling in on themselves. Well attuned ears were able to hear the approach of another pair from behind them. Instinct made him drop Satoru’s hand, instead, stepping in front of his matched. His eyes glinted sharply as he stared at the trees that disguised the nearing fae. Vines slowly began creeping up from the ground, wrapping around his torso gently, both as protection and to stabilize him should he have to fight. He could hear Satoru in his head, whispering assurances of his safety and updates of the environment around them.
But neither he nor Satoru were ready his vines to shudder, and then fall off his body. He watched, with wide eyes, as they turned a dusty green, then a chalky brown before withering away. Immediately whipping his head up, he noticed the couple had begun approaching them. Both were dressed similarly, in comfortable tunics and trousers, though he noticed that only the fae on the left was wearing slippers, the other wore nothing on their feet, much like himself.
They had to have been the one who killed Haruichi’s vines.
He noticed the nearly pearlescent ear tips, and incredibly pale face of the slipper-wearing fae, and the almost ashy complexion and dusty grey tips of the other one. Peering at Satoru, he could see that he’d come to the same conclusions. This was Kazuya and Nori. Another mismatched pair.
Feeling a bit presumptuous for even thinking of attacking the older pair, he slipped into a bow, bringing his hands up from his sides, one resting on his heart, the other going behind him to lie parallel with his hips. Speaking frantically in his mind to Satoru, he beseeched his matched to also bow, but unsurprisingly, he was refused. Instead he watched as Satoru drew himself up to stand at his full height and step in line with Haruichi, and greeted them with simply a nod.
A conversation between the pair must have occurred, as rather than taking an offence to Satoru’s lack of manners, they both smiled and nodded their head back towards the alcove of trees they’d exited from.
Well saying they were smiles would be a polite, only one of them could really be counted as a real smile - the other had been a step to the left from smile, and would more likely be categorized as a smirk.
Sharing a bemused look with Satoru, they both followed behind the other two fae, still keeping their guard up, even if Haruichi trusted Eijun’s judgement implicitly. He could feel the branches of the trees around him straining to reach over and brush against him comfortingly. With an easy tug, he let his power go a little, allowing it to spread around his body and soothe the agitated foliage.  When they began swaying from the energy he was feeding them, he couldn’t help the gentle smile that spread across his face.
When Satoru squeezed his hand, he grinned brighter, sending the joy he received from the plants over to his matched. Satoru wouldn’t be able to feel the plants happiness himself, but Haruichi could share the sensation with him. The resulting soft look he received meant that his emotions had been understood. Neither noticed that Nori and Kazuya had paused in front of them, remaining silent as they watched the feat of power that Haruichi demonstrated with an ease that belied his actual strength.
Trees rarely reacted to the emotions of a fae the way these were – they were reaching down to almost cradle Haruichi in their branches. But glancing at his ears explained much more than he could ever say himself. The tips were a deep shade of green, nearly approaching black in how dark they were.
Eventually Haruichi’s conversation with the plants were over, and he blushed a bright red as he realized that he’d held up everyone in his excitement. Bowing apologetically at the pair, he then looked over at Satoru to not see any annoyance, but instead, simply gentle awe. He blushed brightly as Satoru then proceeded to make his amazement known by mentally speaking to him.
Tugging at their joined hands, he began quickly walking to keep up with the walking fae. Eventually they reached a small break in the trees, and he could sense that some of the trees had been none too gently encouraged to grow away from the alcove. This set his teeth on the edge, but knowing Nori was the reason, he figured it had been done as gently as the fae could handle. They made their way towards a simple dwelling, a small hut tucked away in between a pair of imposing oaks. He could feel the gentle emotions pulsing from the trees and knew they had been taken care of especially well. The energies buzzing from them made his skin tingle, and he couldn’t help but laugh slightly as they spoke to him through sharp pulses and spikes in their aura. Still, he had to keep moving, even if he wanted to spend more time outside with the trees.
Making their way inside after Kazuya opened the door for them, Haruichi kept his guard up slightly, no longer as attuned to the forest once he was inside a building. He watched the easy grace that the other matched fae had as they moved around each other, preparing tea and grabbing extra cushions to sit on. The short laughs and easy smiles were the only indication that there was any conversation occurring.
He wanted to let Nori and Kazuya begin the conversation, focussing on getting comfortable in the house. Eventually though, he could feel that Satoru’s patience was running out with the building tension in the room. Reaching out to place a hand on his waist, Haruichi squeezed lightly before speaking.
His voice was soft and hesitant, but the more he spoke, confidence began unfurling in his chest. “Nori...Kazuya, why did you seek us out?” He knew the answer already, but he wanted to hear if their thought process was the same as his. He waited patiently, scanning their faces to pick up cues from their body language. Even with the relaxed atmosphere of their home, he noted that Nori was much easier to read, for their soft eyes gave away more than the guarded look in Kazuya’s.
They did seem to come to some agreement, as Nori rested a hand on Kazuya’s shoulder and received a jilted nod. Haruichi had never personally spoken to either fae beforehand, so he wasn’t expecting the smooth voice that came from Nori, for the fae was often considered to be skittish and hesitant. And he noted that even with the calm tones, Nori’s face did develop its characteristic blush which bloomed along the cheekbones.
“Haruichi... and Satoru correct?” They both nodded. “It’s obvious isn’t it? You’re now in the same boat as us; as the humans say. And when Eijun sent me a message, we thought it would be a good idea to find you.” Nori nodded at Kazuya, allowing the other fae to take over.
“I don’t know if you realized Haruichi, having been trained by your brother for so long, but Winter fae need to be trained soon after their awakening.” Kazuya’s hand came up to rest under his chin, smirking as he spoke, but his eyes showed that he meant no harm in his words, only testing the waters between them. So he nodded, he had learnt very little about the other Courts, the information guarded jealously. “When you went to visit Eijun, did your powers get out of control Satoru?” At that Kazuya’s eyes trained solely on Satoru, with Haruichi himself also tilting his head to face his matched. At the slow nod, they both shared a glance before looking back at Kazuya.
The fae simply chuckled, and leaned in towards Nori more and nodded, pulling a small smile from them. Haruichi raised an eyebrow slightly, confused as to what could be so funny.
“Eijun must have been using his powers subconsciously around him, otherwise his house might have dropped in temperature – which he cannot handle. That idiot, for all his strength and power, is even more sensitive to the cold than most. I saw the carnage you left on the ground in the forest Satoru, you need to train. But with things as they are,” Kazuya waved a hand between him and Satoru, pulling frowns on both of their faces. “It might be hard for you to meet with one of the Court now, but I guess I could pull myself from my busy schedule to help you?”
Haruichi’s eyes widened slightly, knowing what a privilege it was to be taught by Kazuya. He had been one of the Winter’s strongest before Nori’s awakening. He sent his surprise to Satoru, hoping his matched would understand the honour he was being offered. But it wasn’t necessary, as Satoru was already standing, and bowing deeply, mimicking his own bow from earlier.
Kazuya chuckled, stood up and walked towards the doorway. “First things first, we need you to bow like a Winter fae, not like a gentle-Vernal.” Kazuya winked back at him, chuckling once more.
Haruichi scowled lightly at the tease, but his lips turned upwards slightly as Satoru happily followed, eager to learn. But now he was stuck alone with Nori, and while the older fae made him slightly uncomfortable, he refused to let that stop Satoru from learning under Kazuya. Sending his luck with Satoru, he settled himself further into the cushion, trying to soothe the nervous energy coursing through his body.
He could feel plants beginning to peek between the floorboards, and sighed to himself. Trying to rein in his powers, he was suddenly surprised to see the plants withering and dying. Glancing over, he saw Nori gently smiling at him, even as their fingers twirled slightly to deal with the plants he was growing. Tilting his head, Haruichi went to speak, but was instead beaten by Nori.
“I know it feels like you can’t trust me Haruichi, and seeing our opposing powers, I would be surprised if you did off the bat. However, I’m sure Ryousuke taught you the importance of choosing your allies well? He was never one to follow the Court rules after all.” Nori reached to the side slightly to press one of their hands down on the vine that was creeping through the wall.
Haruichi’s eyes tracked the fae’s movements, learning and imbibing every bit of information he could from this encounter. Nori didn’t immediately cause it to die as the other plants had. Instead, Nori seemed to encourage only the part that was growing inside to die, but Haruichi could sense that the vines growing up the side of the house were still flourishing. He quickly realized what Nori was trying to make him understand. Guarded, but open. Careful, but willing.
It made him remember the words his brother had told him on a daily basis as he had grudging taught Haruichi everything about the Vernal Court and their powers.
“Haruichi, just because you’re my brother doesn’t mean anything. You need to keep yourself guarded and open at the same time. Otherwise, the fae will eat you for breakfast. Myself included.”
Closing his eyes slightly, he grew a large yellow daffodil in the ground in front of him, putting extra care to make it grow in the small patch of exposed ground rather than through the floorboards. With a careful look, he stroked the petals slightly, before plucking it gently from the ground and handing it to Nori. He could see the calculating look in Nori’s eyes, but did his best to remain as open and simple as he could. When the fae finally took the flower from him, but didn’t immediately decompose it, he smiled weakly.
Blushing, he allowed his hair to cover his face a bit as he spoke softly. “Thank you. Both to Kazuya and to you, Nori.” Lifting his head a little, he laughed a little, “I guess I better go tell Eijun that he was right, you were both of help!”
Seeing a similar smile on Nori’s face, but more importantly the hesitance that had been in the older fae’s eyes disappear, he smiled back. And then they both laughed, knowing the boisterous reaction that Eijun could have at the news. Standing up together, he gestured towards the door, wanting to go see Satoru and Kazuya train together, having rarely had the opportunity to watch Winter magic, and also to learn a bit about his new ally...no, his new friend.

I saw a post that was like a twitter poll and the person was askin “hey if you ship allurance are you happy with how it’s been confirmed” (not that it’s confirmed it’s not) and the answer was a big no. Which I find interesting. On the one hand (and rn I haven’t watched S7 so if I get something wrong, kindly add it or at least don’t yell) Allura suddenly getting feelings for Lance in the last episode of the season is weird. It’s maybe not unexpected, but it’s quite sudden and our of character for Allura.
Unlessssss it isn’t.
If Allurance is endgame, I think they’ve done a pretty good job of setting it up. Not for a wedding at the end of the show, not a super big moment either. But a good path to go on in terms of hinting at a relationship continuing after the series. I think the main concern is the relationship Allura and Lotor has in S5 and S6. Another post I saw said that while Allurance is rushed in towards the end, we saw the progression of Allura and Lotor’s feelings for each other. And they are right about the second part. We DID see their romantic relationship progress.
Quickly.
The timeframe in space is all over the place, so I honestly don’t know how long Lotura were sweet on each other before Allura yeeted him out of her heart. But in the very beginning, with the fight with Zarkon, the Kral Zera, and discovering the space Bermuda Triangle and the white lion, things escalated fast. Allura was hesitant to trust him, but I could see she fell faster for him after learning he was half Altean and saw his markings glow. Allura, as part of her character and as her flaw, is less on guard when it comes to her former home. We’ve seen it with AI Alfor, and the inter dimensional rift. She has been shown to become blinded, for a moment at least, when anything about her people or culture is mentioned or shown.
So Lotor, hanging peace banners and seemingly sticking to his word about changing the Galra, plus his knowledge about Altean alchemy, has Allura letting her guard down. Do I think Lotor cared about her? I would like to believe so, bc I did think they were cute together. But I think for Allura, she was caught up in the rush of infatuation. Lotor has so much to offer her, he was being kind, he made her feel connected to her people in a way she hasn’t before.
But when his true colors were shown, she didn’t hesitate to shut down and lock him out. She was hurt, no doubt, and it probably hurt for a while. Her heart, her pride, her role as the commander of the castle. She let him get close to her and her paladins. He could’ve done any number of things on her ship and she feels so stupid for trusting him.
And then there’s Lance. Lance who comforts her, not romantically. Not “you still have me baby forget him”. But as a friend. As someone he loves and respects. He says Lotor tricked them all, that they ALL trusted him. He helps shoulder her burden so she isn’t so heavy with the guilt. He takes care of her in that scene like she’s taken care of the paladins since their journey started.
Until now, we’ve only seen Lance’s feelings about Allura. His romantic feelings anyway. He was a bad flirt and a show off, super cocky and spacey. But he grew. As time went on and everyone grew closer and stronger, he stopped seeing Allura as JUST the princess he has a crush on. He sees her as a partner, a paladin, a fellow Blue lion pilot. He knows how much she wanted Red, to fill her father’s place (I have a theory abt that which I’ll write later) and he sees how she’s grown as a fighter. I don’t remember the episode but it starts with Lance in sniper vision and he sweeps over the team and just watches Allura fight and he’s in awe and he’s so Proud. He’s Proud if how far she’s come.
Allura never leads Lance on. She’s aware of his affections but that doesn’t stop her from being around him, from being close to him. She may not return his feelings but she appreciates him as a person and a teammate, and she cares about him. And like I said, we only see how Lance’s feelings grow over time. Allura and Lance share some beautiful moments (the changing of the lions, the heart of Voltron, the Altean sword, the comfort after Lotor’s betrayal). We know his affections for her grew romantically. But in these scenes we see how Allura has grown too.
To connect with Blue she tries to imitate Lance and flirt. We saw she likes playing with the mice, who make her laugh and keep her entertained. She jokes and laughs with Lance. She’s comfortable enough to hug him. I can’t remember off the top of my head but I think we’ve only seen her hug AI Alfor, Coran, Keith when she apologized to him, Lotor, and Lance. Each hug was different. Family, second family, acceptance and apology, infatuation, and comfort.
What I LOVE about them is that, thanks to S7, they’ve completely switched places. Lance was the stranger on an alien planet. He had to learn how to do things different ways. He had to cope with being out of his element. And now Allura is on Lance’s Home turf, surrounded by new things and challenges. Just because we didn’t have back to back episodes of Allura and Lance holding hands and kissing doesn’t mean there’s been no set up.
And no, Lance isn’t a rebound. He’s not a second best or a replacement. Allura fell fast for Lotor because he was surrounded by what she wanted. The idea that the war could end Right Now. That she could fulfill her father’s wishes and save the universe. He was her dream, a fantasy that she flung away the minute she woke up.
Lance has always been there, for the team and for her. He wasn’t perfect at the start, and neither was she. Allura was too quick to trust and judge and got angry when questioned. She’s learned that she isn’t commanding a team, she’s part of one now. And she can see that Lance has never pressured her. He’s always just been there, caring about her as she’s grown to care about him.
Lance was the first person she saw after ten thousand years. The show sets up important relationships very specifically. I don’t think it was just for comedic effect.
Allura and Lance, if they end up together (in a confined way) at the end of the series, isn’t a rushed decision. It isn’t to spite other ships or to erase representation or to push a ‘safe’ hetero relationship. If Allura and Lance end up together, it’s because they were meant to be together. Because they have broken free of the “Girl must pick between boy next door or mystery bad boy”. The boy next door keeps his feelings out her way, and the girl doesn’t ‘make do’ with mystery boy and his past.
If Allura loves Lance the same way he loves her, that’s because it happened the same way. Slowly, over time, and with the kind of comfort that sneaks up on you. It’s so gentle you don’t notice it until they’re looking at you like you have the power to change the world.
And you believe them, because they have never let you down.

i hope you don’t mind but i’m gonna rant a bit here cause i need to get this off my chest!! firstly, i just wanna say the hq!! fandom is probably one of the best fandoms i’ve been in for a few years now and i’m v happy in it, but the length this fandom goes to either paint oikawa to be the devil himself, or a literal angel who’s done no wrong is amazing. like, he is probably one of THE most complex characters in hq!! too, and making him out to be either good or bad just ruins everything about his characters that makes him so great in the first place.
(before i go on, i want to mention, the post that made me mad enough to type this went something like “here’s a list of all the reasons why oiks is perfect and good, but nooo keep calling him mean n petty” and basically just overlooked how shitty he treated kageyama, and ushijima (to a degree since ushi did retaliate in his own kinda way but that’s a whole different story and tbh, i could write a novel-length essay based on oiks relationship w/ both ushi and kags hahah).
On the other hand, the amount of posts just villainising him (mostly either new ppl to the fandom who don’t really know his character, or shiratorizawa fans in my experience tho i won’t say they are the only ones who do it cause i don’t want to generalise or anything) absolutely astounds me, so the aforementioned post just pushed me over the edge.
I won’t post a link to the post bc I don’t want to start anything, bc in the end Oikawa is just a fictional character, but I thought this was worth mentioning bc i do reference little pieces of this post, below.)
Okay, continuing on w/ the rest of Oik’s character analysis.
on one hand, he is extremely hard-working and dedicated to his goals, and he is loyal af to his teammates, but on the other, he’s so petty and spiteful, and prideful and while having pride isn’t necessarily a bad thing, having too much pride is. And what’s more is both of these sides of him can be clearly seen within the manga/anime so to ignore one side is just confusing as hell to me.
An example highlighting the negative side of his personality would be his canon relationship with Ushijima. From what i can gather from both the manga and the anime, there are two main reasons why Oikawa really doesn’t like Ushijima; the first would be simply because he always lost to Ushijima i.e. he’s a sore loser, but let me elaborate on this since it’s a bit more complicated. Since he is so dedicated and hard-working, it definitely hurt him a lot that he never won and that is both fair, and expected but A) Ushijima didn’t win just to spite/be mean to Oikawa, he won bc that is the logical thing to do (why tf would u play a sport where u don’t want to win); and B) in canon, it is never stated (and def correct me if i’m wrong here) that Ushijima did not work just as hard to get as good as he is so saying he doesn’t deserve to win is hypocritical af (also, i don’t think he was said to be a genius like Kags or Noya but i might be wrong on this again so take this with a pinch of salt). And so, bc one of the reasons why he dislikes Ushijima is just simply bc he keeps on losing to him, it kinda makes him a petty asshole.
However, the second reason why he dislikes Ushijima highlights the better side of his personality, mainly how loyal he is towards his team, and that reason is bc of what Ushijima says to Oikawa about his choice of school, and the strength of his teammates (despite the fact that Ushi wasn’t intending to be mean - nonetheless, he did offend/insult Oikawa AND stick his nose where it didn’t belong but this is another thing entirely, so i won’t get into that rn). The best (and only, i think) example of this is Season 2 Ep 25 where Ushijima says to Oikawa that he chose the wrong path, to which Oikawa defended both himself and his team by saying that he did not choose the wrong path and that his volleyball career isn’t over just because he never won and went to nationals. This clearly shows both his resilient nature, knowing that just bc he never went to nationals in high school, doesn’t mean that his vball career is over; and his loyal nature, towards his team as he doesn’t blame them for being the reason why he never went to nationals (despite this being an easy option), and instead feels pride (the good kind) towards his team, and the effort they had made.

Despite this Oikawa still acts shitty towards people he doesn’t like. A point that was made in the aforementioned post that made me mad, was that, how Oikawa treated Kageyama had little to no effect on him (Kags) later, and that Oikawa felt some sort of remorse towards Kageyama after almost physically attacking him. (And while i must agree that the post did have a few good points highlighting the good sides of his personality, I don’t agree with this point). It is shown multiple times throughout both the anime and the manga, that Kageyama both doesn’t like, and somewhat fears Oikawa and while this is partially due to his skill as a setter, another reason why, is how Oikawa treated him in middle school. If he were intimidated by other setters purely by their skill level and their experiences as a setter, he would not be so intently interested in Kenma back in Season 1 Ep 13/Chapter, or would not be as jealous as he was when he heard Tsukishima had trained with Akaashi (I can’t exactly remember nor find where this was, but I think it was during either the Karasuno VS Seijoh match in Season 2, or the Karasuno VS Shiratorizawa match); but as he not intimidated by them, it shows that there is something else about Oikawa that unnerves him, and that is Oikawa’s personality and how he treated/treats Kageyama. Kageyama even said himself during the Shiratorizawa match in Ep 2 that Oikawa is the only person who scares him. To have such an effect on a person, that Oikawa has on Kageyama shows just how dreadfully Oikawa treated him in middle school and how that effect still lingers despite Kageyama and Oikawa having little contact with each other.

However, Oikawa slightly redeems himself with another example that draws attention to the better side of his personality, and that can be seen when Kags asked Oikawa for advice during Season 2, Ep 6, and Oikawa actually did give Kageyama some very helpful advice (albeit in a less than polite manner, but still give credit where credit is due). From this, it’s very obvious to see how much he has matured during high school because he would NOT have done that during middle school looking at how he treated kageyama back then. This means that he has grown enough as a person to recognise the immature nature of his actions and change them accordingly.

(can we also just stop and appreciate how pretty oiks looks in that last panel?)
So i think that trying to portray Oikawa as someone who is either villainous (bc of how he treats/treated kageyama and ushijima) or angelic/a victim (bc of how the fandom or ushijima(again) treats him) kinda just, diminishes everything that makes him such a great character in the first place, and that just makes me really mad tbh.
Oikawa just deserves so much better than how a significant percentage of the fandom portrays him :/
( sorry if some parts don’t make much sense!! >.< this is the first time i’ve actually written a character analysis thingy like this so my thoughts might be everywhere^^)
