More birds! I guess it's that kind of a day. This time it's white geese. I loved making this artwork, geese are always a pleasure to draw and paint!

My students in my kids’ art class with @livandchiuartstudio wanted to draw a Turkey! Ask and you shall receive! Turkey in soft pastels on black cold press watercolor paper. A little too fibrous for the rubbing motion with the pastels…lesson learned! 🦃 . . . . #turkeypainting #turkey #birdart #bird #bigbird #softpastels #pastelpainting #jenniferlindermanart #teachingart #teachingartist #oaklandartist #wildlifeart #colorpop #colorfullife🌈 #followlove #create #draweveryday https://www.instagram.com/p/CktSeO1Jaz8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Done with Rembrandt pastels on a sheet of acrylic paper treated with pastel primer (from Schmincke).
Using a pastel ground/primer is a great way to use up paper you already have, that was not intended for pastel. It feels very similar to painting with pastels in a mild sand paper.

In this artwork I wanted to portray the connection people have with nature (or nowadays more the lack thereof). I let myself be inspired by my favorite art movements: art nouveau and romanticism.
I would consider this artwork an important milestone in my art journey. For this artwork, I thought a lot more about the meaning and feeling I wanted to portray with my art. Instead of copying a photograph I found on the internet, I took my own photography for this project. This ensures full creative freedom, helping me develop an artwork that is fully mine.
I do have a love-hate relationship with this artwork. There are so many things I would do differently now (ugh the proportions!!), that’s why I’m planning on repainting this artwork now (5 years later), it would love to see how my style has evolved since then.
Badgers are seldom seen in the wild despite their healthy population size, widespread distribution across mainland Scotland and easily recognisable form. This is largely due to their nocturnal habits and general shyness.

So many issues with it, but hey - it kinda looks like him, and it reads as a human being so I will take the win!
As you can probably can tell with my recent flapping around between pencil, pastel, a bit of watercolour and more recently a bit of acrylic - I am still very much trying to find my place as an artist. It's a constant journey and it doesn't help that I flip flop between my love of different mediums!
Colour pencil and pastel still very much winning the battle at the moment!
