Jack Whitten (1939 – 2018) was born in Bessemer, Alabama. Growing up in the segregated South, he was often angered by the racism he experienced and got involved in the civil rights movement in his youth. His experiences with anti-black racism shaped his worldview, which he embodied in his art by extending the meaning of abstraction in his chosen medium of paint in a way that was truly unique.

“My African American identity shaped by the politics of racism in America makes it extremely difficult for me to experience the leisure of being apolitical. Every artist recognizes the “immediateness” of being apolitical as a selfish narcissistic defense mechanism. It is an existentialist right to reject the world in order to commune with the self. Au revoir ma belle!

Meine letzten Tage in Passau sind gezählt. Noch schreibe ich fleißig an meiner Bachelorarbeit, aber trotz Stress werde ich langsam melancholisch. Ich sitze an meinem Lieblingsfensterplatz, genieße die Aussicht auf den Inn, die Natur und das Gewimmel vor der Bib. Es ist zwar grau und ein bisschen stürmisch aber das macht es mir dennoch nicht leichter. Ein Kapitel meines Lebens neigt sich dem Ende. Nicht mehr lange, dann kann ich die Seite umblättern und gleichzeitig auf ein so ereignisreiches, lehrreiches und schönes Kapitel zurückblicken. Passau wird mir fehlen! Au revoir ma belle!

Ich bin gespannt auf das, was auf mich zukommt. Und ganz besonders auf die vielen neuen Entdeckungen. Im April wartet la bella vita in Firenze - ich freu mich schon sehr!

MERCOLEDÌ 04 MAGGIO 2022 - ♦️ SAN FLORIANO ♦️ Floriano (... – Lorch, 4 maggio 304) era, secondo la tradizione agiografica, un soldato romano di stanza nel Norico, impegnato nella difesa del confine settentrionale dell'impero. In quanto cristiano, subì il martirio sotto l'impero di Diocleziano (284-305): è venerato come santo dalla Chiesa cattolica che ne fa memoria liturgica il 4 maggio. Secondo la Passio Sancti Floriani, Floriano era un veterano dell'esercito romano e ricopriva la carica di princeps offici a Cetia (presso l'odierna Kirchdorf an der Krems, in Austria), praticando in segreto la religione cristiana. Durante le persecuzioni promosse da Diocleziano nel 304, saputo che a Lauriacum (oggi Lorch, un sobborgo di Enns) un gruppo di quaranta suoi correligionari era stato arrestato e condannato a morte, decise di raggiungerli e di condividere la loro sorte: giunto nella città, si consegnò ad un gruppo di ex commilitoni confessando la sua fede e, dopo essere stato interrogato e fatto torturare dal preside Aquilino, venne gettato nel fiume Anesius (Enns) con una macina di pietra legata al collo. Il suo corpo venne raccolto dalla matrona Valeria e sepolto sul sito dove i vescovi di Passavia fecero erigere l'abbazia di Sankt Florian (Linz-Land) dei Canonici Regolari della Congregazione Lateranense Austriaca. Mein letzter Sommer in Passau

Als ich am 02. April wieder in mein altes Zimmer in Passau einzog, war ich mir nicht sicher, ob ich das alles vermisst hatte oder ob die alte Routine nicht irgendwie auch ein Rückschritt ist. Wir Millennials, so steht es ja oft geschrieben und so ist es meiner Meinung nach auch, zweifeln ständig daran, ob wir mit der einen Entscheidung irgendetwas anderes Großes verpassen oder wir uns gewissermaßen eine Tür vor der Nase selbst zuschlagen. Bei mir rattern diese Zweifel zumindest immer im Hinterkopf. Andere sind da sicherlich entspannter als ich.

Der erste Monat in Passau brachte schon viele neue Entwicklungen mit sich, manches war leider auch eine böse Überraschung. Entscheidungen stehen wie immer an - das hört beim Erwachsenwerden wohl mit dazu.

Umso schöner ist es, dass Passau mit seinen drei Flüssen und der vielen Natur rundherum gerade jetzt im Frühling wirklich schön ist und man viele Möglichkeiten zum Entspannen und Rauskommen zwischendurch hat. So freue ich mich sehr auf meinen letzten Sommer hier!

Am Samstag waren Johannes und ich oben auf der Veste Oberhaus und haben die tolle Aussicht über Passau bei wolkenlosem Himmel genossen. Ein Muss für jeden Passau-Besuch! Ich hoffe ich bekomme noch den einen oder anderen Gast, so lange bin ich ja nun nicht mehr hier ;)
