My Review of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU
Tumblr media
How did I get into this anime? I’ve heard about this anime and would see it in passing. I’m not one to turn down any romcom animes. Let’s hit it!
Tumblr media
Hachiman Hikigaya has a sour outlook on his high school life. He’s mostly ignored by his peers, it’s been a couple of years since he last spoke to a female, and a love confession kinda warped him for the worst. Hikigaya’s attitude caught the attention of his teacher and she forces Hikigaya to join a club known as the ‘Volunteer Service Club’. This club kinda reaches a helping hand to students in need and helping them reach certain goals. Usually, clubs like this would have like four or five others, here there’s only one other member.
Tumblr media
Yukino Yukinoshita.
God damn, this name can’t be real! Actually, at least half the characters have first and last names that are similar.
Tumblr media
Anyways, she is what you would call an ‘Ice Queen’. Those students that look like a queen but have a frosty personality. And as of episode 2, the club has added another new member, Yui Yuigahama. She got help from the Volunteer Service Club and started hanging out with Hikigaya and Yukino. Will Hikigaya’s outlook on his high school days change by being in this club with Yukino and Yui? Let’s find out!
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: This one was dubbed and released by Sentai Filmworks. Streaming wise is a little complicated. Normally for all Sentai-dubbed animes, I’d say watch it all on Hi-dive, but for this one that’s complicated. Only the first and third seasons are available for streaming. And as of the date of posting this review, Crunchyroll still has the authority to stream the third season. Yeah, hi, where the hell is season two? Another thing to expect from Sentai is with their dubs. They’re either very good or it just feels like another day in the recording booth. I don’t know, I felt blah listening to this particular dub. I think it’s because there were several male characters that annoyed me dearly while listening. It’s pretty noticeable with who these characters are so I’ll leave it at that. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
JAPANESE CAST: *Hikigaya is played by Takuya Eguchi (known for Loid on Spy x Family, Takeo on Ore Monogatari, Kakeru on Fruits Basket 2019, Julius on Re:Zero, Ryouma on Love Stage, and Akihiko on Given)
*Yukino is played by Saori Hayami (known for Shouko on A Silent Voice, Yor on Spy x Family, Ononoki on Monogatari, Shinobu on Demon Slayer, Anju on 86, Yumeko on Kakegurui, and Himawari on Boruto)
*Yui is played by Nao Touyama (known for Ruka on Rent-A-Girlfriend, Koga on Bunny Girl Senpai, Rin on Laid Back Camp, Nii-chan on Blue Exorcist, Victim on Overlord, and Chitoge on Nisekoi)
ENGLISH CAST: *Hikigaya is played by Adam Gibbs (known for Shinichi on Parasyte, Seita on Grave of the Fireflies, Mitsuo on Golden Time, Oreki on Hyouka, Yuki on Tsuritama, Ryouma on Love Stage, and Hiroomi on Beyond the Boundary)
*Yukino is played by Melissa Molano (known for Linda on Golden Time, Shizu on To Love Ru, and Sayaka on Kakegurui [redub])
*Yui is played by Catherine Thomas (known for Itsuki on Kakegurui [redub] and Anne on Food Wars)
Tumblr media
DISLIKED CHARACTER: I’m going to be honest and hate on that clique of friends. You know the ones, Hayama, that blonde bitch, the ass with the annoying voice…Yeah sorry, I’m watching it in English and I REALLY hate Tobe’s voice. Oop, I let one of those annoying voice names drop. I just get annoyed with those three in particular and get annoyed every time they’re involved in the story. The only one from the clique that gets a pass with me is Saki. She’s cool.
SHIPPING: Okay, let’s see what I’ve come to expect with a title that tells me it’s a rom-com!
Tumblr media
During season one, it was clear that all three main characters kept to themselves in many ways. Yukino keeps a straight face even when she’s out with a boy while wearing girly clothes. No blushing, no stuttering, and nothing to give Hikigaya. Yui, you have to wonder as there might have been something after saving Hikigaya prior to episode 1. And when you add the fact that Yukino’s driver was partially to blame for striking Hikigaya with the car, things are adding up with this trio.
Tumblr media
In season two, there were a several love confessions. Problem is that they were majority from that clique group. Early on, Tobe had a crush on Ebina (the girl who is a total fujoshi). And during the class trip, Ebina was getting help from Hikigaya and the others from the club to prevent Tobe from confessing to her. This went really bad as Hikigaya stomped on that landmine. He came in before Tobe could confess and “fake” confess to Ebina. She rejects Hikigaya and in a way Tobe too. This event really caused a lot of damage between Hikigaya, Yui, and Yukino and for more than just Hikigaya doing dumbass shit.
Tumblr media
Next, we have Isshiki and Miura going after Hayama’s heart. To be honest, I always thought Miura and Hayama were already dating or doing something together. But Isshiki got her heart broken by Hayama on Christmas, Miura is ready to throw her future away in order to go where Hayama is going after high school, and Hayama is just a dickhead (and he knows it). Okay, can we get more stuff with our main 3 now?
Tumblr media
We do see all three characters have some sort of breakdown in front of one another. More opening up to each other and revealing their true selves. More blushing in front of everyone, more clumsiness, all that crap! It’s obvious that Yui loves Hikigaya, but also doesn’t want to infringe on this special friendship between him and Yukino. It’s just that no one ever uses the word “love”. They just dance around it and use colorful wording to mask their feelings. Well, one of the girls did use “love”. But I’ll save that for when I’m talking about the finale.
Now if you ask me if I’m on Team Yukino or Team Yui, I would say…
Tumblr media
I’m on Team Saika!
I know it’s not canon, but this is what I support.
Tumblr media
END OF SEASON ONE: Club activities are put to a grinding halt as the culture festival is coming up. Hikigaya (against his will) was put on the committee by his teacher. Yui is somewhat involved, but isn’t with Hiki all that much. And as for Yukino, she’s on the committee and sort of seen as the second coming of her sister. People put a lot of expectations on Yukino just because her older sister Haru was deeply involved when she was in high school. These people obviously don’t know Yukino that well. Yukino made sure to get the job done (even when exhausted) and the start of the festival went pretty well. Yukino and Yui help a band and can suddenly out of nowhere play an instrument and sing. After Haruhi Suzumiya, every anime character thinks they can do it. Besides that, we witness a mental breakdown from the event organizer, Minami.
Tumblr media
It was some time coming with her as she noticed Yukino was getting more attention with all the work she was doing for the culture festival and Minami started to feel useless in her role. Hikigaya found her and kinda chewed her out in front of her friends. This was Hikigaya’s way of nudging Minami’s friends have her back and build her up, while turning on Hikigaya. Hikigaya seriously doesn’t care if these people turn on him. These people have been wishy-washy with him in every episode up to this point. At least Hikigaya’s teacher knows what he did. Plus, Yui and Yukino are still there. Not for an encouraging word or anything, but they’re there.
The final episode involves a race. Hikigaya and the girls lost, but it seems they had a fun time.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, there was an OVA between season one and two. Yes, it’s fanservice. If you like the girls here and seeing them in wedding dresses, this is right up your alley.
Tumblr media
SEASON TWO (ZOKU): We start the season with a reminder that Hikigaya is still hated by his peers. There’s no love for Hikigaya from his classmates after what he did at the culture festival to Minami. But we do see some unity from Yukino and Yui who were quick to dismiss some of their classmates (and occasional run-ins) when they insulted Hikigaya in the clubroom. However, Hikigaya’s bad decisions led to a falling out with Yukino and Yui during a school trip this season and even beyond that.
Tumblr media
Ah yes, you might notice a change in animation with this season. Season one’s animated studio was Brain’s Base, the studio behind Durarara, Baccano, and the first season of To Your Eternity. In 2015, we get the transition to .feel, the same company that brought you the first season of Dagashi Kashi, Remake Our Life, and Kiss x Sis. Don’t worry, the company has improved since the Kiss x Sis days. To my knowledge, they didn’t animate any of the females of this anime peeing on themselves.
Tumblr media
END OF ZOKU: Most of the second season revolved around Hikigaya being involved with the student council. Oh, he didn’t join. Earlier, a classmate named Isshiki came to the clubroom in need of help. Her classmates voted for her to be student council president, but Isshiki doesn’t want to be that. This led to a big thing between Hikigaya, Yui, and Yukino. Yui and Yukino were both ready to take this bullet and run for president (and as a result would potentially put an end to the volunteer club). Isshiki wound up accepting the role. It’s just that she still ends up leaning on Hikigaya for help (in more ways than one). Hikigaya winds up in the middle of this baby drama brought on by Hayama. God, could this guy just stop existing? Isshiki has a crush on Hayama, but he turns her down. And then we get into some actual pressing matters and that’s futures.
Tumblr media
That’s right, these students are inching closer to their third year in high school and that means they have to nail down their final choices on colleges, career paths, and so on. Yukino seems to be getting into heated arguments about that very subject with her sister and mother. In the season finale, Hikigaya and the girls go to the aquarium for the day and by the end of the day, tensions rose. Yui wanted things to stay the same between the three of them. We all know that can’t happen. Yukino is really reaching to change things. You can see it in her face! There are things Yukino wants to do but doesn’t have the courage to speak up, especially when it comes to her family, her feelings, and her future.
Tumblr media
This issue will continue in the third season.
Tumblr media
ZOKU OVA: Another side-story and we’ve got dates to cover. In the first half, Isshiki goes on a date with Hikigaya. Why? She says it’s practice for when Isshiki asks Hayama out, but then she turns it into some student council thing with the different places they visited prior. The second half had Hikigaya go out with Yui and Yukino in some of the places that he went to with Isshiki. I’m wondering if Isshiki is going to be a major player in the Hikigaya love-shape-of-your-choice after this “date”. But then again, it’s Isshiki. She doesn’t have the star-power that Yukino and Yui ooze. Okay, onto the final season.
Tumblr media
CLIMAX: It starts up right where we left off with this uncomfortableness between Hikigaya, Yui, and Yukino. Although now after this wish from Yui, Yukino decides to let some stuff about herself slide out. For starters, she wants to make some changes when it comes to what’s going on in her own family like take over her father’s business instead of her sister. Yukino also tries to do things without trying to rely on Hikigaya so much. It kinda gets hard to avoid that this season after Isshiki decides she wants to throw a prom at the school.
Tumblr media
Huh?! Wait, that’s interesting. In all of the animes I’ve ever watched…I don’t recall there ever being proms. Here in the states, yes, they are still very much a thing. At least they were 20 years ago when I was in high school. Japan high schools are stricter than in the U.S. so it would make sense that those dances aren’t really common. Okay! Hikigaya and Isshiki are putting together a prom.
Tumblr media
ENDING: Okay, I guess we’re focusing on the prom aspect for the entire season. The majority of this season revolved around going with Isshiki’s plan for a prom. But many problems arose like if there’s enough time to put one on. Will the parent-teacher organization allow this? And then we had more of that melodrama between the trio. Yukino wanting to do things herself and not so co-dependent on Hikigaya and Yui wanting her cake and eat it too. Back to the prom, after much debate, pleading, and an attempt at a fake prom to make the other one look better by comparison, it was decided that the prom would be approved. It was a success. And now for the boom.
Tumblr media
Hikigaya’s fake prom plans from before the real prom was approved was found out by the student council and the parent-teacher organization. So obviously Isshiki was not amused and Yukino’s frosty-bitch mother had to stick her nose in this matter. Well, for one reason or another this prom is getting an approval and is a test for Yukino to prove to her mother that she’s capable of pulling something like this off and better than the previous prom. I swear, I never want to see a prom in an anime ever again after this. A whole season of this crap is enough. With help from Hayama, the cliquie girls, the dorks, the tennis team, and Yui, Hikigaya and Yukino were able to pull off a last-minute prom. At the end of the night while Yukino and Hikigaya were cleaning up, Yukino let an “I love you” slip out.
Tumblr media
Amazing! Yukino is the first one to step-up here. And to think, Hikigaya went with the one girl who didn’t dance with him. Even his teacher danced with him. I honestly thought we were going down the Domestic Girlfriend route with Hikigaya and Miss Hiratsuka some of the time. Not to mention the fanbase to Yui was astronomical. It’s clear that fans preferred Yui to be best girl for Hikigaya. Now, I’m not sure if Hikigaya x Yukino are an official couple or not. In the meantime, let’s see how things are shaping up for the start of their third year.
Tumblr media
Hikigaya’s baby sister Komachi is a first-year student. Miss Hiratsuka has left. The volunteer club is disbanded…actually, thanks to Komachi and Isshiki, the club is revived. And the first person to ask for help this school year is Yui. She would like help as a close friend might be going out with the boy she likes. Yeah, say that out in the open in front of Yukino and Hikigaya.
This series…I know there are lots of people who liked this anime. I just thought it was okay. It’s not a favorite of mine and I will always recommend other romcom animes over this.
I’m not sure if there’s any plan on reviving this series and give it a fourth and final season. I have a feeling that there’s more to this story. The characters are in their third year of high school. At this date and time, an OVA is planning to be released soon as of posting this review. The skepticism here is that this particular OVA has reportedly been delayed for over two years. I’m going to assume this was Covid related and move on. Currently, the light novels are over but the manga is still in publication. Although, I think the manga is heading towards the climax. Whatever the case, I’ll continue to watch. I want to see the end result of this love-polygon. I know my choice is never going to be an option, but who cares!
If you would like to watch this anime, Hidive has season one & three, nobody has season two, and Crunchyroll still has season three. This might of course change. Crunchyroll is slowly getting rid of anything licensed by Sentai and as of recent, Hidive announced more additions for their website. So that could mean the second season will have a home again.

Seiyuu Rant: Gender Inequality
The following is a repost of a post I made in 2018. It was flagged and removed for “explicit content”.
The reason you don’t hear [female seiyuu] in anime is simply because she’s an older voice actor. Even someone as popular as Hanazawa Kana hasn’t been getting many roles lately. Those roles have all been going to cheaper and younger voice actors. It’s sad, but don’t expect Sakura Ayane to be as prominent after about five more years. That’s how the voice acting industry is.
- Reddit Commenter
Okay, so I was on Reddit when I asked, “What happened to Aya Hirano?” She used to be in her prime when she got roles in Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya, Fairy Tail, and a whole bunch of other things. Her most recent role that stuck with me was Parasyte which was back in 2015. Since then, I have heard so little from her in seasonal anime.
That’s when someone brought up the elephant in the room… then shot it and stabbed it.
We all know the world is a sexist waste ball, but I have always turned a blind eye to the fact that female seiyuu get phased out really easily. I know Tumblr mostly focuses on male seiyuu since the demographic for this platform is usually younger women or something like that, but I think female seiyuu losing popularity and roles because they’re “getting older” is kind of sad.
In this rant, I rant about the inequalities and hardship facing female (and male) seiyuu. I added some stuff compared to last time.
Age:
Hanazawa was born in February 1989. She just turned 30. The idea that she’s not getting as many roles is kind of scary, isn’t it? Aya Hirano is 31. For Hanazawa and for the sake of anime, I hope that just isn’t true.
I know I always joke about people getting old and how they always go, “My back hurts!” or “I have to go to bed [at 8pm].” or “Back in my day…” (why do I even make fun of that? I do all of the above??) But these voice actresses aren’t even that old. I wouldn’t want anyone’s careers to slow down all because they reached the age of 30. A career slowing down should be by choice.
Average Age:
But if you want cold hard numbers, I’m going to do some math. I’m aware that I’m bad at math, so I’m going to explain this process. I made two posts about the TOP TWENTY seiyuu for both male and female.
Links: MALE | FEMALE
What is the average age? I added up the age of all twenty seiyuu then divided by twenty.  Unfortunately, all numbers hold the same amount of weight meaning that the number one spot and the number twenty spot both get calculated the same way.
Average Male Age: 37
From the No. 1 to the No. 20 spot: 43 + 33 + 38 + 38 + 35 + 40 + 32 + 44 + 40 + 27 + 51 + 32 + 36 + 27 + 38 + 44 + 34 + 35 + 46 + 31
Average Female Age: 29
From the No. 1 to the No. 20 spot: 23 + 33 + 29 + 26 + 24 + 27 + 31 + 39 + 24 + 23 + 38 + 29 + 28 + 26 + 25 + 38 + 24 + 34 + 33 + 30
I understand that male seiyuu tend to debut later, but that’s still a very large gap. Female seiyuu don’t even have anyone over 40.
[more below]
Health:
Not to mention, this seems to be a trend across the board, doesn’t anyone notice that both mangaka, seiyuu, and artists in general always get sick because they overwork themselves? Hosoya took a break because of his throat, Taneda took a break because of illness, Umehara took a break because of illness, Akesaka retired from singing because of her throat and health, Yurika Endou retired because her health was declining, Tooru Ookawa took a break due to illness, Keiji Fujiwara took a leave due to sickness then returned later on, and the list goes on.
Early Retirement and Demand:
If female seiyuu have to work that hard for a career that won’t last that long, no wonder some retire once they get married or pregnant. It’s not a viable option to stick around if you’re going to be pushed out like that in a few years time. I know there are exceptions and this and that, but this is just reality. Even once you finally make it, you’re only going to be there for a little while. And access to playing good female characters is always going to be limited, but that’s a rant for another time. I’m just saying that maybe if we had more good female characters, maybe we would have more demand for more voice actresses.
Image and Fans:
While male seiyuu have this too, I think it’s important to acknowledge that female seiyuu are expected to obtain “idol-like” images these days. They achieve this by restricting their personal lives by not dating and watching how they dress and present themselves and providing an innocent image for their fans to admire. While there are several examples of not being allowed to date, the most recent example of this is when Ayana Taketatsu got married to Yuki Kaji. [source]
Some of them do photo books (sometimes of a more provocative genre) that require them to pose and distribute images of themselves which can be uncomfortable, and while it’s arguably “consensual”, there is probably pressuring to do these types of things. Sometimes, they also post their “BWH” measurements. This means that they have to post their bust, weight, and hip sizes. It’s a very restricting lifestyle, and while fans of any seiyuu can be over-the-top, female seiyuu fans have been known to be exceptionally disrespectful.
Offences by Fans:
Eriko Nakamura was tracked when she went on a trip because someone went onto Google Maps and used her pictures to find out where she went and what route she took. But that’s just a specific example of how female seiyuu’s pictures are taken by fans and dissected (and distributed) to show what they do with their lives.
Nana Mizuki got death threats because she didn’t reply to a fan on a few occasions. Yurika Ochiai also received death threats and noted on her blog that she had to take a break from the public due to stress, but who wouldn’t be stressed about strangers threatening to kill them? Aya Ueto has received death threats as well. Arrests were made in these cases.
Haruna Ikezawa was stalked and defamed by a stalker who was later arrested. He wrote defamatory comments on the voice actress's homepage and repeatedly send messages asking for a personal meeting, telling the voice actress to "come by herself". It was not confirmed whether this was the same person, but someone also followed her through the streets at night resulting in a restraining order. [source]
Mai Kadowaki’s fan was arrested after he sent a letter saying that he would kill her parents. [source]
Aki Toyosaki got into heat because she was dating someone... despite being in her 30s. “Fans began posting photos her CD K-on singles broken into pieces and photos of her K-on character's face crossed out in red ink. One fan even uploaded a photo of Toyosaki surrounded by bullets and a hand menacingly gripping a knife (above). Another fan wrote on 2ch. about killing her. These might be "jokes", but they are hardly funny. [Source]
Sumire Uesaka was sent and read a letter where she was creeped out by a fan letter, but it was played off as a joke.
And during the Kokoro Connect scandal (which is included in some links below), Eri Kitamura was harassed by fans that were sending her dick pics and hate messages via twitter to the point where she had to stop using Twitter (she has resumed Twitter activity a while after).
I talk about this more below in the “scandals” section, but female seiyuu get heat for things that are arguably normal. Again, voice actors like Hikaru Midorikawa have gotten into scandals like this too (Midorikawa was accused of cheating because of a matching piece of jewelry or something).
Scandals:
When Aya Hirano’s scandal occurred, people were threatening her and cutting up her merchandise and pictures.
Daisuke Namikawa got into a scandal involving adultery where he allegedly cheated in 2004 when he got married in 2001. He cheated with a teenage girl who worked at his former agency. According to an interview, this relationship had gone on until “recently” (when it came to the surface in July 2017). [Source: Anime News Network]
In my opinion, cheating is one of the lowest things you can do to your partner, and if you do such a thing, you should have a good excuse. But with a teenage girl? Come on. At the start of the relationship, he was 28. He should’ve known better, yet, we never hold these acts against him. He’s still getting a lot of roles in anime, and as much as I don’t have anything against him as an actor and as a master of his craft, I can’t help but think of this whenever his image comes up.
In the Kokoro Connect Scandal, we see a public humiliation of a male voice actor. Two of the main players in the scandal are Takuma Terashima and Hisako Kanemoto. While I don’t know the complete reasons for this, Takuma Terashima can somehow still get roles and even sang the opening for that Slime anime? We don’t see Kanemoto often though.
The Arts Vision scandal was terrible. She was assaulted at only 16. This incident did occur in 2006, and he was released a few months later after his arrest. He stepped down as chairman in 2007. I feel like he wasn’t really held accountable. He apparently was released for medical reasons or something like that. Basically, bullshit. What’s even worse is the fact that he was the founder of the company, and this agency represents a lot of good voice actors Saki Fujita, Jun Fukushima, Souchirou Hoshi, Tomoaki Maeno, Kousuke Toriumi, Yuuichirou Umehara, and Daiki Yamashita just to name a few. It is also the parent company of I’m Enterprise which is another huge agency which houses Saori Hayami, Youko Hikasa, Kaede Hondo, Rie Kugimiya, Maria Naganawa, Mai Nakahara, Saori Oonishi, Ari Ozawa, Chiwa Saito, Ayane Sakura, Aya Suzaki, the Uchida siblings, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Hiro Shimono, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. He had a lot of power, and I imagine this wasn’t his first time taking advantage.
Male Seiyuu Benefits:
So, male seiyuu get more leniency in expressing themselves, more time in the industry, more interesting parts, more work, and possibly more money. And when I say more leniency, I mean A LOT more leniency. The cast of Haganai was saying how it’s great how they can say “うんこ (poop)” in front of a large audience. Meanwhile, we have male seiyuu who can discuss panties without anybody judging. If a female seiyuu were to do that, she’d probably get scolded by her manager. They are to stick to a certain image, and they can’t do much outside of it. A huge part of Aya Hirano’s decline was caused by her sleeping with other band members (except for the bassist; RIP I’m a bass player).
While seiyuu in general cosplay, it’s far more difficult for female seiyuu to cosplay because of costumes in anime are... you know. There is a stream where Akari Kito is pressured into wearing the costume that her character wore, and yes, it did happen. If it’s any consolation, the seiyuu community felt a bit conflicted about it.
Harassment Within the Industry:
Like pretty much all industries, female seiyuu experience sexual harassment as well. Few have been open about it, but Atsuko Enomoto commented on the progression of the #metoo movement. She talks about wanting to give up and quit the industry. There have also been comments about producers and directors hitting on and harassing young female seiyuu, and they can’t do anything about it because they’re starting out. And this is only the stuff that makes it onto the surface.
Hiroko Konishi also shares her experience that happened decades ago where female seiyuu suffered from abuse, sexual harassment, and other hardship because they were expected to “sell themselves”.
There have even been comments on how there’s a “casting couch” in the industry.
Yurina Hase also speaks about the “casting couch” and how disgusting the industry is.
Hase revealed she experienced a "casting couch" situation once for an anime that was produced at Sunrise. She said that she was asked to perform sexual favors, and when she refused, she was notified the next day that she did not get the role. She said that this was her only experience with a casting couch as an anime voice actress.
Before the livestream, Hase wrote on Twitter that she planned to "reveal how I really feel," and that she has "the resolve to end everything."
In the stream, she also gave advice to "watch out for the male voice actors." She said that the newcomer male actors tend to let the attention go to their heads, and immediately try to lay their hands on the female actors.
She received multiple death threats in 2009, causing her stress. She later resigned from her role in the The IDOLM@STER series as Yukiho, and was replaced by Azumi Asakura. In 2014, she took a break from new voice acting roles.
Voice acting is a tough industry, but being a female voice actress is even tougher. I just wanted to put this rant out there because I casually say things about it from time to time, but with that Reddit comment, I think I finally wanted to give it its own post.

Top 24 Best Action Anime of All Time to Watch Right Now
Tumblr media
Best Action Anime has always been a signature of anime genre from the very starting. Even if it's not ever the primary focus as it once was, in the 1970s and 1980s, most anime displayed scenes or set plays with intense fight scenes. And I would hope that the top action anime world never went too far away. Let's take a look at a couple of action romance anime that ranks the best of all time. Don't miss Thrillist's best action anime list. 'Top Action anime' is an audit quality, so We compiled 24 best action anime, and each anime series had a few notables. Every  anime encourages dramatic change or stands out due to a brilliant plot or character.  You asked for the best anime action of all times, and we brought a list of romance action anime.
The List of Best Action with Romance Anime
24- Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
Tumblr media
Directed By: Tetsurō Araki Release Date: April 8, 2016 Duration: 12 Episodes Rating: IMDb (7.3/10) The "Kabane" are horrible creatures like zombies that can only be killed by piercing their iron-protected hearts. After "Ikoma's" city overran, he boarded a fortified iron train alongside some new allies searching for a safer place. The Good action anime here is its key selling point, with the continuous panning of camera angles accentuating dynamic and rapid combat. There's a flashback: "Ikoma," a professional investor, had told "Mumei" that he would transform her back into a human. Do we feel some kind of romance action anime tension between the two? They're a fine pair of fights, for sure. In the present, Ikoma" is convening with human leaders to formulate a war plan, but humans don't trust him, possibly because of his "Kabane" blood. It doesn't work for him that he's not quite himself. He sweats like crazy, and he falls to his knees. During the Industrial Age, the action romance anime occurs as the virus infects humans and transforms them into "Kabane". 23- Black Lagoon
Tumblr media
Directed By: Sunao Katabuchi Release Date: April 8, 2006 Duration: 24 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.3/10) The squad of the "Black Lagoon" is ragtag of mercenaries in the coin, but their relationships are tied together. When "Rokurou Okajima" (a non-assuming businessman) joins the gang and gives it the name "Rok," he turns away his life, as he flew into a world of crime, corruption, and greed. The Titan assault is terrible, but it's not exactly a horror action anime. You will discover an operation that is heavy on the scheme, creating a character and the environment, if you can stomach the gruesome, inner presence of the titans and the violent intent of how to devote their victims. Since there is possibly more action romance anime than almost any genre, Attack on Titan is indeed the best one since the virtual absence of plot shield means that no one is ever truly safe, and the consequences were genuine. Black Lagoon, the best action anime without our happy trigger Revy, who promises to push the series together, cannot be said about it. 22- Dorohedoro
Tumblr media
Directed By: Yuichiro Hayashi Release Date: 1999 Duration: 12 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.5/10) We find powerless people and strong magicians alike in the abandoned and unhospitable district of Hole. Kaiman is a tall, brooding figure with the head of a crocodile. But he wasn't born that way. And he's looking for the guy who took his body, his memories, and, ultimately, his identity. When this top action romance anime begins, "En", a leading mafia magician, hears a Lizardman murdering his people and sends out the indifferent Shin and his partner, the bubbly (and too muscular) Noi, into the Hole to take care of Caiman, triggering a messy conflict between the two worlds. Although the initial premise would otherwise suggest that the moral world of Dorohedoro is far from black and white, sorcerers' society appears to be one with its internal conflicts and oppressive machines. 21- Gintama
Tumblr media
Directed By: Shinji Takamatsu Release Date: April 4, 2006 Duration: 367 Episodes Rating:  IMDb (8.6/10) Hundreds of "Gintama" episodes cover many genres. I loved it from the very beginning, but some suggest you must get to the first serious arc to appreciate the value of "Gintama's" setting and characters. "Gintoki" is a samurai who helps people with jobs here and there in Feudal Japan after an alien invasion. Comedy's an anime's hard nut to crack. The funniest series there relies on Japanese phrases that do not translate. "Gintama" is on the thin side, and witches might lose in Western audiences. The Comedy action romance anime is still legally funny, so the award of best comedy anime is taken. Part of this is from jokes that land amid the language barrier. 20- The Tower of God
Tumblr media
Directed By: Takashi Sano Release Date: June 30, 2010 Duration: 13 Episodes Rating:  IMDb (7.9/10) The Tower of God recently completed is the first action romance anime webtoon! I'm pleased that I Choose a good one. The anime enhanced over the webtoon in every possible way, with the distinct and raw art style and an epic weight for every conflict. This electronic orchestral soundtrack. 25th Bam was a boy who knew only a dark cavern, a filthy cloth, and an inaccessible light all his life. Then the whole of his life changed when a young girl named Rachel came into him by morning. He learned from her some things about the outside world by being close friends with Rachel. Begins "Bam's" journey, a young boy who wasn't selected from the Tower but had his doors opened. They call its kind of "Irregulars" being that each time they put a foot in, it has shaken the very base of the Tower. 19- Akira
Tumblr media
Directed By: Katsuhiro Otomo Release Date: July 16, 1988 Duration: 2h 6m Rating:  IMDb (8/10) Akira is a classic all-time Anime. Gang wars, psychokinetic conspiracies, and a government effort are situated around Neo-scenery, Tokyo's, which could ruin the city and kill most of the inhabitants. The tale is dense, so let us concentrate on the action. Akira is not just a action anime, and not just great animation, although both are great. It's a beautiful film; it stops absolutely. There is a lot of top action romance anime list, and every year more come out. Akira remains a high watermark. It is a great film, a cool story, and a beautiful, action-packed animation with tremendous attention to detail. 18- Parasyte
Tumblr media
Directed By: Bong Joon-ho Release Date: May 30, 2019 Duration: 2h 12m Rating:  IMDb (8.5/10) But not his side, now hosting a personality. Oh, his eyes and the mouth. Okay, that's terrible, but you can still change. The horror of the body was never so freely directed into motion. This best action anime will concentrate on Izumi Shinichi, a 17-year-old who lives in Tokyo with his family. One night, an alien Parasyte that looks like a worm enters his body, burrowing on to his arm, which is named Migi. It leads to an unusual connection between the two. 17- Land of the Lustrous
Tumblr media
Directed By: Takahiko Kyogoku Release Date: October 7, 2017 Duration: 12 Episodes Rating:  IMDb (8.4/10) It's beautiful to watch, featuring many pleasant and well-defined people who each need a demon in an eternal war with the Lunar people who are mobilizing their bodies to harvest their beauty. Some of the settings will leave your jaw between your knees, waiting for the next episode to be clicked. Crystalline creatures called Gems in the unknown future occupy a planet devastated by six meteors. Each Ornament is assigned a role to combat the Lunar people, a species that attacks them to break down their bases and utilize them as decorations. It's dynamic, brilliant and has some of the most pleasant films in best action romance anime TV history. 16- One Punch Man
Tumblr media
Directed By: Shingo Natsume Release Date: December 4, 2015 Duration: 12 episodes and 5 special episodes Rating:  IMDb (8.8/10) The author of the original webcomics hit it with his first idea, uh, punched it out of the park. Get this all right? Just imagine a standard shounen or even super heroic comic.  Although the action anime genre is still spoofing, One Punch Man ventures in a different direction and asks the fundamental question: What if a superhero were so powerful that he could punch all of his enemies? The top action anime series begins with a regular guy called Saitama, who chooses a nonsensical training scheme to become a superhero. He overdoes it, becomes so dominant that his opponents are not in trouble, and as a result, he becomes bored (and bald). This, however, is a cool, funny and good action anime series of bonkers with lots of action - Saitama must take things seriously every once and for a while. 15- Sword of the Stranger
Tumblr media
Directed By: Masahiro Andô Release Date: September 29, 2007 Duration: 1h 43m Rating: IMDb (7.8/10) As part of their unprecedented ability and straightforward aim, Sword of the Stranger may very well be the most thoroughly performed entry in the best action anime of all time genre. Young orphan Kotaro and his heroic dog Tobimaru encounter an unnamed swordsman whose adventures need little clarification. It seems to Sword of the Stranger, a great option to start this rundown, precisely because it is the high-octane action with some good action anime choreographed parts that keep you attached to your seat during the film. She would not mislead her narrative characters, incredible sequences of action, stunning art styles, and only the fraternal love between two main characters has a progressing past. If you love the setting of history, that's another justification to give the Stranger's Sword a chance.. 14- Hellsing Ultimate
Tumblr media
Directed By: Geneon Release Date: February 10, 2006 Duration: 10 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.6/10) Hellsing Ultimate incorporates anything from the Hellsing original and lifts it to the extreme. A little less than an hour, ten episodes tell you a macabre and witty tale of vampirism and survival. Very legendary, fabulous, unique, and one of the most sensitive artworks. A lot of vampire amines will occur. The varied best action anime output was understandable, as it had been subject to various animation studios. The animations from Gory were adequate to make you feel disgusted and distressed. The source was faithful, but the production of timing and plot was too quick and choppy for non-manga readers, making plot twists and character development trivial and impressionable. 13- Evangelion
Tumblr media
Directed By: Geneon Release Date: November 17, 2012 Duration: 26 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.6/10) Gurren Lagann brings things in a genre known for excess to another stage with a good action anime breeze, a node, and a screamed alarm. A mecha with sunglasses could turn off visitors who aren't in the giant robot-anime genre. However, what seems to be an embarrassing mess works much better than it does. Crochet, line, plunger, the high-energy opening sequence, and the first episode lead you through some well-designed scenes that are strange but brilliant and amusing best action romance anime for the same time. When each character is introduced, we learn more about the brain, nerve, and soul organizations and why they have been developed. 12- Katanagatari
Tumblr media
Directed By: Hideo Katsumata with Others. Release Date: January 25, 2010 Duration: 12 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.4/10) In his quest for 12 special blades, Katanagatari is the story of strategist and Martial Artist Shichika. It is also the tale of shifting times when the swords' age was forced to end with the rash of firearms in Japan's Edo-era.  The core partnership is just as intense as the realization of its key subjects, which ensures that the bread and butter of this series will keep you in some way amused as you chatter interminably. This isn't to say that this top action romance anime are not entertaining. Still, it is more aimed at fans who might be considering pivoting towards more dialog-heavy anime and, at the same time, retaining a substantial side dish of action. 11- Kill la Kill
Tumblr media
Directed By: Hiroyuki Imaishi Release Date: October 3, 2013 Duration: 27 Episodes Rating: IMDb (7.9/10) Revenge is the game story in "Kill la Kill," starting from a basic plot but becoming more complicated and more in-depth, rather than just an anime full of best action anime and beautiful combat scenes than appears in each chapter. Ryuuko Matoi roamed the country in search of his killer after the assassination of her dad. At the renowned Honnouji Academy, she is at high school, unlike any other, with just her lead-the absent half of his innovation, Scissor Blade. The Academy, along with its influential subsidiary elite four, is ruled by the formidable and cold-hearted student council chairman Satsuki Kiryuin. Satsuki offers those in the highest unique clothing called "Goku's Uniforms," which offer the wearer extraordinary superhuman powers in the school's brutally competitive hierarchy. The hits are still entertaining with their characters and the storyline. This is a roller coaster; you will understand when you watch this anime. 10- Devilman: Crybaby
Tumblr media
Directed By: Masaaki Yuasa Release Date: January 5, 2018 Duration: 10 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.1/10) This is numbered as the top 10 action anime of the year, and it sounds incredible to modernize a classic anime, and it demonstrates that it can be significant. The 1972 and 1987 originals are little-known but decent classics. I recommend that you watch the sub or read the manga. Although it's all packed, blood, blah blah blah drugs, it's also emotionally full. It's about who the real demons are with a deep and dark psychological subject. Monsters killing people or people killing people. The fight between Fudo and these malformations is incredible. Although it's full of feelings, tears in your eyes sometimes don't like Naruto, One Piece, and Koe no katachi. 9- JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Tumblr media
Directed By: Naokatsu Tsuda Yasuhiro Kimura Release Date: January 1, 1987 Duration: 42 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.7/10) The events of the Joestars, which now take several decades, families, and even timelines, can practically not be summed up. This romance action anime has already seen several bizarre adventures from slaying vampires to defend a small town – and a lot to come! The charming old-school beginning; the following with maybe the most charismatic protagonist; a curious tour with an even better-known Villain, and even a small one clashes with the most inspired path to date. Every season has its attractions. But as the environments, skills, and tones change, two aspects remain the same the unforgettable positions of Hirohiko Araki and the fact that JoJo's battles quickly turn out to be a strategic game. 8- Mob Psycho 100
Tumblr media
Directed By: Yuzuru Tachikawa Release Date: July 12, 2016 Duration: 25 Episodes Rating: IMDb (8.5/10) Read the full article

Sentai Announces Upcoming Titles
Tumblr media
Sentai Filmworks have unveiled upcoming releases for April as well as new acquisitions:
HOUSTON, TX — February 11, 2021 — Sentai announced today that it acquired rights to the suspense-filled thriller Babylon, the anime series based on Mado Nozaki’s popular light novels. Sentai plans to release the series on Blu-ray as well as digital sell-through via select outlets.
Zen Seizaki, dedicated prosecutor with the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, is assigned a seemly cut-and-dry case of false advertisement on part of a pharmaceutical company. But what starts as a routine investigation soon turns into something much darker, the strange details of the case painting a portrait of corruption and deceit that permeates the mayoral election being run in the newly formed Shiniki District. Soon Seizaki discovers depravity that puts at risk the very fabric of the Japanese justice system — not to mention Seizaki’s own sense of right and wrong.
The anime is a production of studio Revoroot (FLCL Alternative) and directed by Kiyotaka Suzuki (Psycho-Pass 2); Yutaka Yamada (Vinland Saga) provided the series’ musical composition. Babylon features the vocal talents of Takahiro Sakurai (Psycho-Pass) as Shinobu Kujin, Satsuki Yukino (When They Cry) as Ai Magase and Yuichi Nakamura (Jujutsu Kaisen) as Zen Seizaki. The series will be released on home video, including Blu-ray and digital sell-through, in Spring 2021.
Sentai announced today that it acquired NANA, the 47-episode anime series produced by Madhouse and based on the manga by Ai Yazawa (NEIGHBORHOOD STORY, TENSHI NANKA JA NAI) with 40+ million copies sold. The series has been upconverted from its original format to vivid high definition.
Two twenty-somethings seemingly share nothing in common apart from their first name, but a chance meeting on a train bound for Tokyo sets Nana Komatsu and Nana Osaki on a collision course with destiny. Nana Komatsu, a love-at-first-sight dreamer, aims to find enduring happiness in the big city. Nana Osaki, neo punk rock vocalist, pursues her burning ambitions of musical stardom and worldwide fame. As their fates increasingly intertwine, they each chase their dreams — until the harsh realities of life in big city Tokyo threaten to tear everything apart.
A production of studio Madhouse (No Game, No Life, Parasyte -the maxim-, DEATH NOTE), NANA is directed by Morio Asaka (Chihayafuru, MY Love STORY!!, Cardcaptor Sakura) with series composition by Tomoko Konparu (Blue Spring Ride, Sunday Without God, Glass Mask) and music by Tomoki Hasegawa (Mysterious Girlfriend X, D.N.Angel, Zan Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei). The series stars Romi Park (Land of the Lustrous, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Shaman King) as punk-rocker Nana Osaki and KAORI (Kaleido Star, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Pokémon: Advanced Generation) as the cheerful Nana Komatsu.
Sentai is planning an HD version for release on digital outlets with an HD home video release to follow.
Sentai announced today that it acquired home video rights to the action thriller series HERO MASK, a Studio Pierrot (Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach) production, through a worldwide licensing arrangement (excluding Asia).
Detective James Blood, member of an elite police unit, pushes the edges of law enforcement to bring down the criminal threats and terrorist organizations plaguing a beautiful metropolitan city. When the murder of Crown Prosecutor Monica Campbell crosses his desk, Blood finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy involving LIVE, a two-faced corporate conglomerate with ties to the sordid underworld of human experimentation. With Sarah Sinclair — the only witness to Campbell’s death — at his side, Blood will have to face an army of mask-wearing superhumans to uncover the truth and stop LIVE before its plans can come to dark fruition…
HERO MASK stars Yasuyuki Kase (The Perfect Insider, 91 Days) as James Blood, Yuuko Kaida (The Promised Neverland, A Certain Scientific Railgun) as Sarah Sinclair, Kouki Uchiyama (Amagi Brilliant Park, Haikyuu!!) as Harry Creighton and Junpei Morita (Eureka Seven, Naruto: Shippuden) as Lennox Gallagher. Director Hiroyasu Aoki (assistant director Hunter x Hunter Movie 2: The Last Mission) provides series composition and the script.

Itadori Yuji is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a friend who has been attacked by Curses, he eats the finger of the Double-Faced Specter, taking the Curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with the Double-Faced Specter. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Gojo Satoru, Itadori is admitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Technical High School of Sorcery, an organization that fights the Curses... and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a Curse to exorcise a Curse, a life from which he could never turn back.
