Nyla Rose & Serpentico were forced to team up at Pandemonium Pro Wrestling over the weekend.
Serpentico was NOT HAPPY that Nyla tweeted during the match. She also took the time to sign autographs while Serpentico got thrown around the ring. 🤣🤣🤣

The man himself, Ol’ Saint Nick, the big jolly guy, Santa Claus is here! Dressed in all red, and being accompanied to the ring tonight by a couple of absolutely gorgeous elves, Saint Nick is looking a little more Samoan than usually tonight, but it’s the Santa Claus we know and love all the same.
Santa lugs behind him a large sack, and as he approaches the ring, reaches in and throws gifts to our MPW audience members. T-shirts, action figures, and other pieces of merch, courtesy of Father Christmas himself. The crowd is delighted, but Dyln Blaine himself looks as if he’s growing impatient, tapping his foot in the ring, waiting for all the attention to be back on him. Once Santa gets into the ring, and sends his helper elves to the back, it seems Dyln finally has what he wanted- Santa’s undivided attention.
Steve Guy hands Santa a mic, and Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick clears his throat with a “Ho! Ho! Ho!” Much to the delight of our fans, as he sets down his magical sack of gifts to give Dyln his undivided attention.
“Mayhem Pro Wrestling, how’s Santa’s favorite wrestling fans doing tonight?”
A cheer from our Brooklyn fans suggest they’re having a great time, as do all fans who attend an MPW show!
“Now… Dyln. I’ve had my eye on you all year, young man. I’ve been watching you very closely. You’ve accomplished a lot this year- your first wrestling PPV match. Your first ever MPW championship. The longest MPW Stardust title reign since Pandemonium… I would love to say that you should be quite proud of yourself.”
A wide smirk grows across Dyln’s face as he nods. “Thank you Santa, I am.”
“… as I was saying. I would love to say that… but in good conscience, I cannot. You see, Dyln. You lie. You cheat. You backstabbed one of your best friends. You align yourself with people like Lilith Brookes… Dyln, I’m afraid I came here tonight to give you a lump of coal, because you, my dear boy, are on the naughty list.”
The crowd cheers, and Dyln looks absolutely appalled as Santa reaches into his sack, and pulls out a lump of coal, but Dyln, not willing to accept the gift, launches a superkick at Santa! Dyln just kicked Santa!
Santa stumbles but doesn’t go down, and Dyln springs off the ropes, looking for the Rocket Strap… but Santa catches him! Santa catches Dyln in a rear naked choke hold! Santa is choking out the MPW Stardust champion!
After Dyln starts to fade, Santa sends Dyln into the corner, before charging in, crushing Dyln with a back elbow, before following it up with a big jumping enziguri! Santa then lifts Dyln up onto the top rope, before hooking him, and planting Dyln with the Santa Buster! Goodnight, Dyln Blaine!
Santa gets back up, and fixes his hat and beard, before reaching back into his bag, grabbing another lump of coal, and dropping it down onto Dyln’s chest! The crowd loves it; and as Santa’s music starts back up, Santa resumes passing out presents to all the people on the nice list: the MPW fans!

In the year 2020, a lazy inter-dimensional maintenance crew decided to skip the mid-decade check-up on the pillars that separated the varying realities, in favor of a drunken game of strip cosmic-destroyer. This was a mistake.
If they hadn’t, they would’ve realized two things. 1) The pillars were disintegrating, and 2) They were tacky, and didn’t match the rest of the décor. It is possible both these things could have been fixed, had they been caught in time.
As it was, on a seemingly normal morning when all the children were vaping in one dimension and The Bovine Sirens were holding a benefit concert for under-priviledged calfs in the next, and so on and so forth, that simultaneously, and at the same time, about half a dozen pillars gave out completely.
A few eye-witness accounts say this event was accompanied by ominous rumbling. Others maintain they heard nothing, or nothing more than an ear-piercingly loud rendition of Moonlight Sonata (that being the sound associated with horror in that particular dimension, so written by either Beethoven or Mr. Backyard von Bottomslash III, depending on where you hailed from, although the latter version was known for it’s accompanying jaunty congo-bongo-beat). A few dimensions got about 200 pages of explosions and tidal waves. Regardless, most of the effected dimensions had a sneaking suspicion that something was amiss. Where Christianity existed, members of the faith declared that Armageddon was upon them, and eagerly awaited the arrival of Christ. Thusly, it was especially jarring for them when what descended from the sky was more along the lines of a failing cupcake dispensary, a group of pro-wrestling direwolves in diapers, and in one case, Mecha Jetpack Hitler, scourge of Michio 5 (12,998th off-shoot of Earth, Timeline 4, Branch 86), who, sensing an opportunity, promptly proclaimed himself as such.
To say it was pandemonium would be an obvious understatement. Some people encountered multiple versions of themselves, while others were erased from existence entirely. One interesting case study was Thomas Marsh, an ordinary man from Neo-Chicago who would appear and disappear at random intervals, in the same bumper car, in the same bumper car ride at the same amusement park, but with a different kind of hamburger hidden in his backpack each time. Being an obese man, the park eventually had to ban that particular car from use after several children were crushed.
Making this all the worse was the fact that The Soul of Liberace, Supreme Overlord of Space and Time, was on vacation that day. Efforts by the Time Bureau to reach him were in vain, as he was having such a grand old time at the beach that he never thought to check his Instagram. By the time he returned, dogs and cats were living together, 14 Taylor Swifts now governed Russia*, and some furries had found and resurrected Jimmy Hoffa, who was running for secretary of state in all 16-79 states.
Suffice it to say, he was not pleased. The maintenance crew whose neglect was responsible for this catastrophe was promptly fired, and denied unemployment benefits. Afterwards, The Soul of Liberace got himself a pumpkin spice latte, sighed heavily, and went to work. This was going to take at least a week to fix.
Unfortunately for the citizens of the newly formed mishmash of six dimensions down below, a week for a cosmic being such as The Soul of Liberace was not the same as a week for them- any of them. Lacking any other recourse, they had no choice but to seek some form of normalcy in the strange world they now lived in…
* News Outlets at the time reported that Putin did not appreciated being told to “Shake it Off”.

Vitor Belfort Backs Mike Tyson In AEW ‘Dynamite’ Scuffle
Tumblr media
After a surprise appearance at All Elite Wrestling’s Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event in Jacksonville, Florida last Saturday, 23 May, Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort never imagined he would get to cameo as a pro wrestler.
However, this is exactly what happened on Wednesday, 27 May at AEW’s Dynamite.
Joined by mixed martial arts World Champions “Sugar” Rashad Evans and Henry Cejudo, Belfort was actually there to back up his friend and one of boxing’s most iconic figures – “Iron” Mike Tyson.
Shortly after the group invaded Dynamite, “Iron” Mike confronted wrestling great and former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho about a run-in years ago.
Back in January 2010 – when Tyson was a guest host on an episode of WWE’s Monday Night Raw – he teamed up with Jericho for a match against bitter rivals D-Generation X.
All went as planned, except that Tyson was merely setting up for the ultimate double-cross. Midway through the match, the boxer from Brownsville stripped off his shirt to reveal he had switched allegiances and dropped Jericho with a hook, giving D-Generation X the victory.
With memories of that knockout fresh on his mind, a vengeful Jericho angrily demanded an apology from the boxing legend on Wednesday.
Still defiant and shirtless, a 53-year-old Tyson stepped up and jawed with Jericho, before sending the wrestling icon back with a strong shove.
Jericho pushed back and pandemonium broke out. As Jericho’s Inner Circle got involved in the melee, Tyson’s entourage quickly stepped in to defend their friend.
The fracas was short-lived as Belfort and company managed to restrain Tyson, who was seen screaming furiously as he exited the arena.
With both sides having unfinished business, it might not be long before fans can expect to see the mixed martial arts legend back inside the squared circle.

Returning to the first ever convention we had the pleasure of covering, Nintendroid went back to the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention in Lexington Kentucky! A sequel that doesn’t disappoint!
When we got the go-ahead to cover LCTC, I was questioning if we could even make the trip. Sure it’s only a three hour trek, but the difference this time around is my new eight-month-old baby, and a wonderful job I’m very grateful for, but demands six days of my week. After some compromises, my wife being the trooper she is decided to stay home with baby droid. That left me going alone for the first time to cover the event by myself.
Tumblr media
The drive on top of the early wake-up, working the previous day and dealing with my responsibilities as a dad had me beat by the time I made it to the doorstep of the Lexington Arena by eleven o’clock that Sunday morning. As worn out as I felt, was I going to be in the mood to even walk around this massive convention and enjoy myself?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Entering the building, it was like a jolt of electricity. The energy of the crowd, coupled with the pandemonium of activity covering every square inch of the entire building gave me the much-needed boost of adrenaline I needed. Even though I had missed the year prior, I felt so at home.
To LCTC’s credit, they’ve grown and boy do I mean grown. When I covered the event back in 2017, It mostly covered the bottom floor of the building. Now it was all three floors and the massive and historical Rupp Arena! It was big then, but it’s even bigger now and the crowd seemed to have tripled. Seeing the sell-out announcements, I was worried I was even going to make it into the place.
I didn’t get to cover everything I wanted to, because it just would’ve been impossible with the mass of activities and events all going on at one time. So what I’m going to do here is pick out some of my favorite little things I encountered while at LCTC 2019...
1. Imported Video Games!
Tumblr media
Convention vendor spaces are my favorite. It’s like a geeky flea market you just want to walk around for hours. Being the pack-rat that I am, it’s always the height of any convention for me. What made this experience special was that it was the first time I ever seen vendors bringing foreign gaming consoles and games to sell! And to my relief, the prices were for the most part reasonable and not ridiculous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment led to me purchasing my first ever Japanese import and I’m proud to say that I now own the Japanese version of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat with the bongo accessory for Gamecube! This gem only set me back forty bones, so needless to say we we’re off to an amazing start.
 2.  Mark Paul Gosselaar Q & A!
Tumblr media
Being that I grew up in the 90s, I was a fan of Saved By The Bell. I was more of a closet fan, but nowadays my enjoyment of the show is loud and proud. I don’t follow the career of “Zack Morris” outside of the ‘Bell, but I thought it would be fun to hear what the dude was up to and if he ever married Kelly (Spoiler: he didn’t)
To my surprise, dude has a lot of fans of his more recent television works like Franklin and Bash. I was happy for the guy, because teen idols seem to get stuck in the time that they’re perceived to have peaked, and I’m glad to see he got away from that. Some interesting notes from the Q & A: His son dyed his hair blonde and said “look dad I’m you huh huh huh. He’s open to a reunion but no one has ever presented him with any material. He wants to get the cast together to read fan scripts at conventions. He still talks to the cast often. He also laughed at the caffeine addiction episode as most of us did. Thank me later, Saved By The Bell fans.
 3. The Celebrity Signing Area!
Tumblr media
As mentioned several times, LCTC has grown. The celebrities all do signings now in the Rupp Arena. I’m not an autograph hound because of my painful awkwardness but I appreciate it for other people. I went to get some pictures of the arena from the stands and found myself just enjoying the sites of all the celebrities interacting with the crowd. Seeing pro wrestling legend Sting sitting next to Meridith from The Office is something I could only think of in my wildest dreams.
Speaking of the guests, holy jeez did LCTC bring it this year. Half of The Office cast, Spongebob himself Tom Kenny (who had by far the biggest line there), a slew of Power Rangers, friggin’ Val Kilmer. That’s just a few names, trust me when I say it was pretty staggering how much talent was in that room.
  4. This Bootleg Mega Man Doll!
Tumblr media
This might seem out of place but I’m a sucker for bootleg toys for whatever reason, so imagine my joy and laughter when I came across this Mega Man. Where did it come from? Who made it? Why the hell is it fifteen dollars? I debated buying it, but at the end of the day I couldn’t justify purchasing it. I have the memory and that’s what matters. Serious though, how great/awful is this thing. Dr Light is rolling in his grave seeing his beloved creation bastardized like this. Definitely the work of Wily.
  5. These Pikachus!
Tumblr media
Hats off to these two cosplayers. I don’t even think they knew one another, but because they were both Pikachus, they hung out and danced at the doors for a long time. They should’ve had a seat in the arena with the celebrities, because everyone and their mom was taking pictures with them. More than any other cosplayer in the place, these dudes were the stars of the show. If I was these two, I’d take this act on the road. Imagine the money to be made at birthday parties and get togethers. One Pikachu is cool, but two puts it over the top.
At the end of the day, I was exhausted but so happy I got to experience the LCTC all over again. If you’re a seasoned convention goer, or looking to attend your first one, I recommend LCTC highly. It’s well staffed, well planned and well organized and you’ll have an awesome time taking in all the sights and enjoying everything offered here. I want to thank the people behind the scenes for having us back this year. This event will always hold a special place in my heart and I’m excited to see how it continues to grow throughout the years.

More Quirkless Gen Studies Izuku! Maybe the Stain fight or the aftermath? (I figure Gen Studies kids get internships too, just not hero ones. Maybe he was interning with Naomasa or another Hosu police detective.)
*pulls my Ethics of Sportsmanship notes down from the virtual shelf and blows dust off them* oh man, it’s been a while~ And the stain fight too~ Aa, I hope you enjoy this my friend~
Part one is here, part two is here, part three is here, part four is here.
Iida isn’t doing well.
Shouto isn’t exactly sure what to do about it. He knows it’s happening, he can see it in Iida’s eyes and the set of his shoulders. Iida himself seems to be under the impression that he’s fooling everyone but Uraraka keeps throwing him concerned looks when he isn’t looking. Shouto, for his part, can only watch and wish he had any idea what to say.
Midoriya would know what to say. If Shouto was on better terms with Midoriya he would ask but Midoriya wouldn’t talk to him after their match at the sports festival. Shouto doesn’t get very many opportunities to speak to students in the General Studies department so he’s left with nothing except a squirming in his gut and a growing concern for the look on Iida’s face.
Shouto knows that look from the mirror. It’s a look that speaks of hurt and anger to the determent of all else. Shouto used to wear that look while he tore himself down to spite his father.
It’s not a good look.
There’s nothing he can do about Iida’s expression now, though, Shouto has to focus on himself and his own survival. There was only one real choice for internship and that was Endeavor. Shouto has to tread carefully, to learn all he can from the number two at his place of work before forging his own path. His father is pleased that Shouto chose his hero agency but Shouto is just grimly determined.
Shouto and his father head to Hosu, the last known location of the Hero Killer. What they find there is a city burning.
The streets are pandemonium. Police are out in force to try to contain the panic and heroes throw themselves ineffectually against the power of the nomu, because apparently the one at the USJ attack wasn’t the only one. Shouto’s father jumps into the fray and he is, well, he’s much less ineffectual.
It’s during all this that Shouto sees it. A flash of green curls across the way.
There’s no reason to believe that Midoriya is the only person in the world to have green curls. In fact, Shouto would bet quite the opposite. As the person, whose dressed in a uniform that looks similar to the police but not, runs away from the fight and away from the evacuation point Shouto can’t help but feel like it is Midoriya.
If Midoriya is here then that means that Midoriya is about to throw himself into danger.
Shouto ignores his father calling for him and ducks around a few sidekicks. He builds himself an ice slide to take him over a burning car and gives the nomu the heroes are trying to wrangle a wide berth. Midoriya, because it has to be Midoriya, ducks down a side street. Shouto follows as best he can.
Midoriya is fast. Shouto already knew he was fast from the sports festival but most of that wasn’t simple running. Now that there are no crazy obstacles Shouto can appreciate just how fast Midoriya really is. Shouto doesn’t fall behind but he’s not gaining on Midoriya as quickly as he would like either.
At one point Midoriya stumbles, stuttering in his stride, before pinwheeling his arms and rushing down a side alley. Shouto pushes himself faster, worried that he’s going to lose Midoriya here. When he gets to the mouth of the alleyway what he sees makes his blood run cold.
Pro Hero Native and Iida are on the ground, both bleeding. Midoriya is currently wrestling with a man who matches the description of the Hero Killer perfectly.
Of all the stupid, reckless things for Midoriya to do engaging with the Hero Killer has got to sit near the top of the list.
Before Shouto can do much more than absorb the scene Stain gets a boot in Midoriya’s gut, pushing him off with a sharp shove. Midoriya is thrown back, landing flat on his back and rolling away with the momentum of it. Stain pulls a blade in a flash.
“Who the hell do you think you are, kid?” Stain spits, pointing it at Midoriya’s prone form.
“Midoriya,” Shouto shouts as a warning, panic rising in his throat. He takes a few steps forward and flings his fire at the Hero Killer, who is forced to dance backwards or suffer burns.
Midoriya sits up, looking a bit dazed from his fall. “Todoroki-kun?”
“Todoroki-kun?” Iida repeats, sounding strained. His face is turned away from Shouto and for whatever reason he doesn’t seem able to turn his head back.
Shouto’s first order of business is to get reckless people out of the line of fire.
“More kids,” Stain grumbles. “What, is there a field trip nearby?”
Shouto ignores him and concentrates. The ice spreads along the floor of the alleyway in a thin layer before building into an incline, sliding Native, Iida, and Midoriya back Shouto’s way. Native and Iida just kind of go with the flow but Midoriya scrambles, trying to find purchase on uneven ground.
When he’s gathered everyone to him Shouto turns his ice into a wall, separating them from Stain.
“Oh, I see,” Stain says from the other side. “You’re Endeavor’s kid, huh?”
Shouto’s blood runs cold at the sound of Stain’s voice, amused and cruel.
“Weaknesses?” Shouto rasps. He’s mostly talking to Midoriya and his uncanny analysis skills but any response will do.
“It happened when he cut us,” Native says. “My body just stopped responding.”
“It can’t be the cut itself,” Midoriya says, sounding breathless as he pulls himself to his feet. Shouto has a weird urge to demand that he stay down. “Those blades are store bought and can’t have anything to do with his actual quirk. It probably has to do with blood. He may not need to interact with the blood beyond just looking at it, which would make things difficult. We should try not to get cut.”
“Easier said then done,” Shouto sighs.
“What are you doing here?” Iida demands. “Leave, this is my fight.”
“You don’t seem to be doing a lot of fighting right now,” Shouto replies, miffed.
“Hey, Iida-kun, right?” Midoriya says. “Uraraka-san’s friend?”
“I… Yes,” Iida says.
“I’m sorry, Iida-kun,” Midoriya says. “I’m not going anywhere.” As he speaks Stain clears the ice wall. He almost seems to hover suspended in the air, his scarf flaring out behind him like demonic wings carrying him down to destroy them. “I don’t know what your deal is but I’m going to help save you.”
Stain pulls a handful of throwing knives, glinting in the light from the moon and the fire Shouto is still wrapping around his left side.
“Midoriya, get down,” Shouto yells, reaching in Midoriya’s direction and trying to bring up some kind of ice barrier to protect them. He catches two of four blades on his ice wall and one of them is knocked aside after tearing a line of pain on his forearm.
The last one buries itself in Midoriya’s shoulder.
Alright I’m going to have to cut this one off here because length, sorry. Please forgive me for the bit of a cliffhanger, there’s never a good place to stop mid action sequence.
Part six is here.

Castle Point Anime Convention Wrap-Up!
Tumblr media
Castle Point Anime Convention is in the books! It surely indeed was one for the books as well, coming from someone who has not attended Castle Point in literal years. Try...2012 to be exact. Seven years passes by so flipping fast. To think, the last time I was at this convention was back when I was a mere nineteen year old! Regardless, time flies and as we get older and we evolve, so too must our conventions that we attend. If conventions do not improve of evolve, then they will never last for the long term. Rather dire things to say for an opening to a wrap-up post, but it’s how I personally feel on the matter. It’s a challenge for grassroots conventions to pull it off, but for those who do, the payoffs are grand. In Castle Point’s case, they have pulled it off. They have evolved greatly from the small yet modest “college con” that I recall attending way back when.
Tumblr media
KDA Akali by projectxayah and KDA Evelynn by melanubis
As such, to end this foreword, I’ll be making some comparisons to the last time I attended CPAC back in 2012, to now, throughout this article. It’s going to be quite a lengthy read, so strap in everyone!
The Meadowlands Expo venue was simple to arrive with no issues on our end. A simple fifteen-minute-at-best-half-hour-at-worse-due-to-traffic bus ride from Port Authority was all that was needed to arrive. The bus stop even lets you off directly in front of the convention center itself! Here is where I can immediately talk about how helpful the staff was towards myself and the rest of the podcast. When we needed help as far as knowing where to go and con assistance in general, everyone was able to help, but, there weren’t any crowding that I noticed as well. Lines were handled well, and the Dealer’s Room/Artist Alley, places where there’s known to be a packed pandemonium, was handled well. Mainly this was due in part to there being a designated entrance and a designated exit. Take notes future cons!
youtube
As the time drew nearer for the gates to be open, the hall slowly but surely filled itself with various cosplayers, attendees wearing gaming and anime inspired apparel, and soon enough the events began.
One of the first events was a maid performance, made to kick off the opening of the anime convention. It certainly had set the tone for the convention for sure, where one could hear it in ambiance even if they weren’t there to physically attend.
After the opening ceremonies concluded, I was left to explore the event as it were. One of the first stops I take in any convention is within the game room, so to speak. Majority of the games featured, due in part from the Snow Phoenix team, in the game room below are games in which I have played at least once, play on a regular at the local arcade, or games in which I never had played before (Or ever will play outside of cons)
Regardless of which category the games fell under, it’s always fun to go back to these games from time to time. Free play is just a bonus in all honesty. My personal favorite of the games featured here had to have been Sound Voltex, always a fine game in my book. The second being Crossbeats, a touch based rhythm game which, sadly, development ceased as of last year. It’s still a great game to go back to from time to time.
youtube
Another portion of the game room were console setups. These had a slew of fighting games ranging from the Street Fighter Collection to Mortal Kombat 11, Soul Calibur 6 to Tekken 7, and of course an entire section of CRT televisions dedicated to Melee. Tournaments were held throughout the weekend, which, unfortunately I didn’t make it as far as I would have liked. However, those who I had met were friendly enough to me.
Back on the topic of rhythm games, I had attended a rhythm game panel that was being presented later on that afternoon. The convention was split into two venues. The main venue, at the Meadowlands Expo, had the main events while the Holiday Inn had the extra panels. This was where the Rhythm Game panel was held.
Held by RhythmCore Gaming, the rhythm game panel spoke about the history of rhythm games, mainly focusing on Bemani games, as well as touching upon mobile rhythm games briefly as well. For those reading who aren’t aware of what a “Bemani” is, essentially it’s the rhythm game division of Konami. Familiar titles include Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania IIDX, Sound Voltex, Pop’n Music, and so much more.
Tumblr media
All in all, as far as presentation, it was a well run panel. From a technical standpoint, the Castle Point staff made sure all equipment that were in use were running well, as far as projectors for example. Crowd control was also handled quite well, to avoid overflow. From the panelist’s standpoint, I feel they had gotten the gist of what each game is and how they play. Being slightly critical, I feel some of those who were assigned to talk about a specific game went more in depth with their game than others, but I know more than anyone the challenge of running a rhythm game panel.
See, way back in 2013, I, too, ran a rhythm game panel at a convention that has long since been discontinued. A good friend of mine and I both ran the panel, yet, with technical difficulties due to the inability of the staff to assist us, as well as not informing the panel ahead of us that we were running late due to the technical difficulties, the experience gave me more of a headache than I’d like to admit.
Tumblr media
An awesome ass couple cosplay that, sadly, did not have any social media :( I still dug it!
However, this is where I can once again praise the Castle Point staff for being on top of making sure the panel ran smoothly. I can also give respect to the RhythmCore Gaming group for tackling on a subject to appeal to a crowd that may look at an arcade rhythm game in fear and confusion. I suppose I admit I attended this panel to see how others would tackle such a topic. I give the panel a “Certified Nay’s Thumb Up.”
For the rest of the convention, I had made sure to try to get my fill in of taking pictures of as many cosplayers as I found whom caught my eye, all of whom you’ll see throughout this post. One in particular who caught my eye was a Kasumi cosplayer.
Tumblr media
Kasumi from Persona 5 Royale by ZodiacKind
See, again, for the reader who may not know this about me. I am a huge Persona fan. When I had heard news that Persona 5 Royale was a thing and I had saw the trailer earlier that same week, I was hoping that the cosplay community would work fast.
The cosplay community would not disappoint me.
This cosplayer deserves special mention just for having this at the ready so quickly, so, for that I appreciate this so much!
Another cosplayer who I felt deserved an honorable mention was a woman who was a very good Sub-Zero, but also earlier that weekend she was Kratos. I had the chance to interview her as Sub-Zero in which the video can be found below.
Tumblr media
Sub-Zero by Amarys Berry
I mentioned in my previous post about Winter Brawl that vendors are the underappreciated glue that holds a regional/major together. There will be a post separate from this one where I interview one of the vendors from Artist Alley, but the same sentiment is stated here. There are so many vendors in the Artist Alley with their own story and own purpose for doing what they love.
I, in fact, covered an Artist Alley vendor at the Con itself! However, I feel a paragraph alone won’t be enough to give them justice, so please be sure to read the companion article here where I discuss meeting with Bunnies & Cream! You don’t want to miss it, for sure!
In any case, the same could be said for cosplayers. Cosplayers are not so much the glue, but the exoskeleton that makes the entire convention worth it. Each cosplayer has their own story in terms of what got them into it, how long they’ve been doing it, and what made them cosplay certain characters.
Unfortunately, things can tend to go awry when you least expect it. The blade on your sword prop may hang loose, an annoying thread may linger on one’s dress, a shirt may be ripping from the seams. All of these nightmares are easily avoided by those on standby who are dedicated to make any mess a fixable one!
This was quite possibly one of the few points of interest that I saw at the convention. An “all in one” emergency repair station not unlike one you would see at a convention. I couldn’t help myself. I had to learn more. Thankfully these guys were friendly enough to answer my questions I’ve had. Big thanks!
youtube
youtube
With all of the maintenance that goes into making the perfect, subjectively of course, cosplay, no matter if it’s been a decade or ten days, every cosplayer is equally important to the well-being of any convention.
Even moreso when cosplayers engage in violent carnage within the squared circle and go for a swinging neck cutter as a finishing move.
Tumblr media
In what was perhaps the highlight of the convention, the Cosplay Pro Wrestling event was a fitting end to an action packed weekend. Although I had caught it while in the middle of the event, what surprised me the most was how there was an actual story arc.
From what I was able to gather, the main story arc revolved around the face, or hero, Big Boss, feuding with Team Rocket, who formed an allegiance with Princess Peach. The main event was scheduled for Big Boss vs Princess Peach for the title.
Throughout the set, one of the matches I did see in its fullest was Winter Soldier versus, and I quote, “Jeff Harley Quinn.”
As you could expect from the name alone, this Harley Quinn shared a lot of Jeff Hardy’s likeliness as far as his mannerisms and his moveset. What one may not have expected, was Winter Soldier, who bore resemblance and a moveset similar to Roman Reigns.
Spears, Twists of Fates, Leg Drops, and Swanton Bombs were present here as one would expect to see from fans of both wrestlers, yet they also brought about some of Quinn’s cunning which was what gave her the overall victory.

Eventually, after a match of Link vs Liu Kang, the main event transpired. Paing homage to heel stables of the Attitude Era, trickery was used while Team Rocket was able to give enough damage to Big Boss to have Princess Peach secure the pin.
However, when all hope seemed lost... Mario and Luigi, decked out in “Bullet Bill Club” shirts, went out and chased Team Rocket as well as Princess Peach out of the ring. What followed after was a tag team match, with more story building now that the Bullet Bill Club entered the scene.

There was so much more that could be said as to what transpired in this two hour finale to an otherwise action packed weekend, including one of the guys from Attack on Titan fighting Isabelle from Animal Crossing, but it was one of those events where you had to be there to experience it.
That’s the one thing I can say about the convention. For a two-day con, there was always something to experience. If you wanted to meet one of your favorite voice actresses like I had, you could do so.
Tumblr media
If you wanted to take in the sights and experience panels and learn new things about otaku culture and the like, you could do so as well. There’s literally no right or wrong way to attend the convention and the only thing that I can recommend is to do everything you possibly can. Unfortunately some conventions don’t have that, but, with this year’s Castle Point I can definitely say that the community as well as the staff had pulled out all the stops to make it memorable.
With that said in conclusion, for this being my first anime convention of the year, it was a fantastic way to start. Thank you once again to the Castle Point staff for giving myself and my fellow members of the Geeks podcast for giving us the opportunity. I’ll definitely try to attend next year for sure.
As always, may the Lost Summer never end! Tune to us soon for the next post!

The New Beginning in Sapporo preview
Kazuchika Okada vs. Minoru Suzuki - Okada defends the IWGP heavyweight title.  Coming out of Okada’s blowaway match with Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom, Omega and Bullet Club are laying low but now Okada and Chaos have to deal with Suzukigun.  Suzuki’s stable has been away for the past two years invading Pro Wrestling NOAH, but now they’re back and they kinda make Bullet Club look like chumps in comparison.
Suzukigun vanished from New Japan right as I was getting into the promotion, so I know next to nothing about them.  Suzuki himself is 48 but clearly revered by the fans, so he strikes me as an old guy who can still go, or at least project the illusion that he can beat anybody’s ass.  I’m looking forward to seeing what this guy’s about, and a change of pace from all the guys we’ve seen Okada wrestle for the past couple of years.
I was never into Okada, but that match with Omega really showed me something.  I guess he earned my respect and made me see him as the definitive champion.  It should be interesting to see if he can maintain that presence.
I’d expect Okada to retain, but a title change here could be interesting if NJPW re-signs Omega and wants to do Suzuki-Omega this summer, as a way of holding off on the obvious Okada-Omega rematch.
Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tomoaki Honma & Togi Makabe vs. Davey Boy Smith, Jr. & Lance Archer - Yano & Ishii are defending the IWGP heavyweight tag team championship.  The first team to score a fall will get the title.
The only reason Yano and Ishii are champions is because they backdoored their way into being added to the title match Honma and Makabe (GBH) earned by winning the World Tag League tournament.  Yano stole GBH’s World Tag League trophies, and as far as I know he still has them.
Smith and Archer are the Killer Elite Squad, and part of Suzukigun.  Smith is the son of the British Bulldog and had a run in WWE as David Hart Smith.  Archer had a cup of coffee in WWE as Vance Archer, but is probably best remembered as Lance Hoyt in TNA.  Since the tag champions are part of Chaos, this is another front in the Suzukigun/Chaos feud.
Interestingly, New Japan has booked this exact same match at both New Beginning shows--this one in Sapporo and the 2/11 show in Osaka.  That kind of suggests this match won’t settle anything, which makes me skeptical that the title will change hands here.  Besides, the pandemonium of a three-way favors Yano’s sneakiness, so it makes sense for his team to retain.
Hirooki Goto vs. Juice Robinson - Goto won the NEVER openweight title at Wrestle Kingdom, but then Robinson pinned him the next day in a ten-man tag match, so he gets a title shot.  In WWE a match like this would be carelessly booked to give Goto an easy win over a jobber they’re not trying to get over.  But in New Japan just putting Juice in this match is a statement, and he has an opportunity to move up the pecking order with a good performance.  I don’t think Robinson will win, but I’m not expecting him to get squashed either.
Because of this title defense, Goto is the top Chaos guy that hasn’t really been paired up with any of the Suzukigun guys yet.  That will probably change very shortly, perhaps immediately after this match ends.
Rocky Romero & Baretta vs. TAKA Michinoku & Taichi - Roppongi Vice (Romerto and Baretta) put the IWGP junior heavyweight tag title on the line.  This is another Chaos vs. Suzukigun match.  Taka is probably the most famous guy in this match, by virtue of being in Kaientai during the whole “I choppy choppy your pee pee” thing and also during the whole “We are eeeeevil!  Indeed!” thing.  I hate to see RPG Vice lose the belts so soon after winning them, but I’m feeling like it could happen here.
Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi & EVIL & SANADA & BUSHI vs. Michael Elgin & Hiroshi Tanahashi & Manabu Nakanishi & Ryusuke Taguchi & Dragon Lee - This is more or less a preview for the second New Beginning show, with the entire Los Ingobernables de Japon stable together against all their opponents for February 11.  Naito is the intercontinental champion and put Elgin on the shelf for a few weeks.  Takahashi is the junior heavyweight champ, and Dragon Lee has come over from Mexico to kick his ass.  The Tanahashi/Nakanishi/Taguchi trio recently won the NEVER six-man tag championship from Evil, Sanada, and Bushi.
I wouldn’t count on anything earth-shattering happening here.  This is mostly a way to get all these guys in front of the Sapporo crowd without wearing them out before the title matches in Osaka.  The finish won’t mean much but I expect LIJ wins.
YOSHI-HASHI vs. Takashi Iizuka - The fourth Chaos vs. Suzukigun match on the card.  Yoshi is kind of the job guy in Chaos while Iizuka is fucking terrifying.  I’m pretty sure Iizuka makes short work of this and moves on to stomping Goto’s ass.
Will Ospreay & Jado & Gedo vs. Katsuyori Shiabata & Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask - A filler tag match to preview Ospreay vs. Shibata at the 2/11 show.  I’m thinking Shiabata pins Gedo or something.
Yuji Nagata & Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Yoshitatsu & Henare & Tomoyuki - This is basically an “old legends squash the young boys” match, except Yoshitatsu isn’t a young boy so much as a floundering journeyman.  Kinda sucks that Yoshi’s “Bullet Club Hunter” thing never caught on (especially now that there’s no Bullet Club around to fight at the moment), but that’s the way it goes.  Old guys go over.
KUSHIDA & Hirai Kawato vs. El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru - Kushida is kind of a big deal, but he’s going up against two Suzukigun dudes and all he’s got is a young boy to back him up.  I was curious if Kawato has ever won a match and the answer seems to be “yes, if he’s up against another young boy, or Bone Soldier.”  Yeesh.  Nice knowing you, Kushida.

PVP 10/22/17
Ernest K Fabian Presents:
Pioneer Valley Pro Wrestling Match Report
Pioneer Valley Pro Wrestling Presents: "Pioneer Valley Horror Story"
Wrestling fans of all ages attended this action packed pro wrestling card at the American Legion in Hadley MA on 10/21/17.  This card was loaded with chills, spills & thrills.  The fans were rowdy, the wrestlers were pumped & the wrestling action was RED HOT!  Many of the wrestlers were in costume & more fans were in costume at this event than at any previous PVP event.  Also in attendance was Alex Cypher.  Cypher is a commissioner with the Massachusetts state athletic commission & has been attending PVP events for awhile, walking around with a scowl on his face, measuring everything & having tiny, little, silent, face tantrums when everything does not seem "up to snuff."  Well let me tell you punters, Alex hinted to me with a glance & hand sign that he is watching me closely & taking notes.  Mr. Cypher even went as far as parking near me to watch my behavior more closely.  What this bodes for my indy journalism career & Ernest K Fabian is unknown to me at this point, but at least I know I had better watch myself.
Ring Announcer: Matthew James
National Anthem & Ring 2nd:  Joanna Robinson
Referees:  Will Dojan & Adam West
Preliminary Tag-Team Match:  "Degenerate" Dexter Loux & "American Sumo" Mike Gamble defeated T.K. Luther 5th & Brian Bomber via pinfall after Loux rolled Luther up from behind for the three count.  Luther had delivered a heatbutt onto Gamble, knocking Gamble out of the ring but Loux was the legal man & came up from behind to gain the victory for his team.
Preliminary Match:  H2O Ryan Waters beat Heck Dynamite via pinfall following an elbow drop off the top rope in a mainly scientific match.
MAIN CARD BEGINS HERE:
1,200 LB. Triple Threat Match:  Before this match Brian Milonas addressed the fans stating that he was tired of "kicking Wrecking Ball's ass" & was leaving the arena.  Milonas continued by stating that he had proven himself to be the best super heavyweight in the world.  Milonas departed the ring area making the following match a singles match.  "Wrecking Ball" Legursky beat Wildman Kongo via disqualification after Jurassic Era (Narciso Rex & Isaiah Rex) entered the ring and attacked "Wrecking Ball." Kongo & Jurassic era proceeded to choke & beat Legursky until the referees cleared the ring.
Singles Match:  "Big Bacon" Brad Hollister got by "Hard Hittin'" Bobby Ocean via pinfall after executing a seated power bomb on Ocean following a grueling, 30 minute match.  This match started as a scientific match until Hollister threw Ocean out of the ring & beat Ocean on the stage stairs.  Hollister then slammed Ocean's head on the edge of the ring then body slammed ocean on the ring apron. Hollister tried to bring a chair into the ring but the referee made him toss it out.   Overall this match was "back & forth."  The two competitors traded advantage multiple time during this match.  After the match Hollister & Ocean bumped fists in a rare dispaly of sportsmanship.
PVP Woman's Championship Match:  Davienne retained her championship in a match VS Toxis after Toxis failed to re-enter the ring after a ten count.  Toxis had charged towards Davienne outside the ring but ended up hitting the ring-post with her shoulder instead.  After the match Toxis had a tantrum, crying about how she is supposed to be the queen of PVP.
Last Man Standing Match:  To win this match a competitor had to incapacitate his opponent enough so that they fail to get on their feet before the 10 count.  AJ Cruise won his match against "Sexy Jesus" Hammer Tunis after Tunis failed to stand before the referee had counted to ten.   This match was a violent, anything goes match that was loaded like an overstuffed baked potato with highlights.   Early in the match Tunis threw Cruise into the fan's seats, sending Cruise to the floor.   Tunis then threw Cruise on top of the bar but Cruise dove onto Tunis from the top of the bar sending both men crashing to the floor.  Back in the ring Tunis set a chair in the corner between two ropes and put Cruise's head into the chair.  Later in the match,  Cruise tied Tunis up in the ring ropes and threw chairs into Hammer's head.   Late in the match & back in the ring, Tunis attacked Cruise's leg, trying to re-injure Cruise.  Unable to make Cruise stay down before the ten count, Tunis tried pile driving Cruise on a chair, but Cruise still got up.  At the end of the match, Hammer tried to hit Cruise with a chair but Cruise kicked the chair back into Hammer's face.  Both men were on the mat but Cruise was able to get up before the ten count while Hammer was unconscious & gained the victory.  After the match Hollister came out to help Tunis & both Tunis & Hollister helped Cruise back to the ring in a display of sportsmanship.
Blitzkrieg Pro Wrestling Bedlam Championship Match:  "Smart" Mark Sterling (as a banana)retained his championship VS Zack Beaulieu (Olivia Newton John), Johnny (Mario) Torres & Perry Von Vicious (Perry Von Kenobi) after pinning Torres, who was incapacitated.  Zack & Viscous knocked each other out of the ring, enabling Sterling to get an uncontested pin.  A highlight of this match was when Beaulieu put a pumpkin head on Vicious, put Vicious into the corner of the ring & then executed a baseball slide into vicious, smashing both the pumpkin & Vcious's head.   Later in the match Torres went into Mario (Hyper) mode, knocking all his opponents to the mat in rapid succession.  The funniest moment of this match was when Sterling & Vicious set Torres up for the "greatest suplex of all time," off the ropes and into a pile of "candy corn."  (yes...you read that correctly, punters!)
PVP Tag-Team Title Match.  "The Lock-Up" (Nico Silva & Jason Daniels) won the PVP Tag-Team title in their match VS "The East Coast Bastard Crew" (Jeremy Leary  & "King of Chaos" Logan Black) after winning a second, impromptu "no D.Q." match after Silva pinned Leary.  The E.C.B.C. won the 1st match after Leary pinned Nico.  Leary was dissatisfied with this relatively quick victory and took the microphone after pinning Silva.   Leary stated that if someone got them a beer they would do this again.   The Lock-Up" accepted the challenge & won the 2nd match, much to the chagrin of the E.C.B.C.  The Lock-Up refused the E.C.B.C.'s best two out of three challenge and left the ring-side area as PVP tag-team champions.  A highlight of this double match was when Leary threw a chain, chairs, a 2 * 4 and the tag-team belts in the ring to be used as weapons.
MAIN EVENT:
Pioneer Valley Pro Wrestling Championship Match:  PVP Champion; "Egomaniac"  Johnny Idol VS "High Chief of Chop" Tomahawk ended in a "no contest" when Brian Milonas entered the ring unexpectedly & beat on Tomahawk.  Perry Von Vicious, A.J. Cruise & Zack Beaulieu entered the fray & it was pandemonium & a free for all in the ring.  MA state athletic commissioner; Alex Cypher entered the ring & was injured & knocked out of the ring by Milonas. (which is bound to happen when an ex or non-wrestling, bureaucrat gets in the ring.  "just sayin'.")  Because Idol did not submit, get pinned or get counted out, Idol retained the PVP championship.
See You At The Matches:
