Okay I finally figured this out! None of my previous appliqués turned out quite good enough for me. I did research on how to work with metallic threads on embroidery machines, like NOT putting it in the bobbin and using a polyester in their instead 🙄🧵🤷🏼‍♀️ There’s even a preference on how your thread comes off the spool! Ugh. Of course my manual says nothing of this... thank God for YouTube. It’s okay, it’s a learning experience. The thread will still break once in a while, it’s so finicky, but it’s an easy fix. I have to redo one more small piece and they’re finally done!! I’m getting all the tedious stuff like these done first. Regular garment sewing is the easy part. • I’m headed to California tomorrow morning for a weekend with my Myu girls as we practice for our Wondercon masquerade presentation! Not only am I still learning how to use my new embroidery machine (freaking thread tension!!) but I’m trying a different approach than others have with the tabard embroidery. Instead of sewing directly onto the long tabard piece, I am making individual appliqué style embroidery pieces, mounted on a gold polyester taffeta. I’ll then soak off the water soluble stabilizer and after it’s dry, iron on wonder under, peel off the paper and then, with an exacto knife, go in and take out the areas where the red satin shows through. Then cut out, fray check, and iron onto the tabard! I think it looks a lot closer to how they did it for the film. I’m sure they had a fancy appliqué embroidery machine. The last image is the original gown embroidery. That’s all.
