This morning, I asked the cards “What is the next step on my journey?” I drew the 8 of Roses from The Outsider Tarot. 🌟 Sometimes, there is pain in life, but it’s the good kind. Pain can be a kind of release and it can be therapeutic in its own way. As a tattooist tattoos a rose upon a clients back, I’m reminded of the fact that pain can bring growth and learning; it’s just something that we have to overcome. Though I’ve experienced a lot of pain lately, I think on what I’m becoming and what I’m growing into. I think of how I’ve grown over the past while and now will come the release. I can let it go now. 🌟 While the growth and work I’ve had to do has been difficult, I’ve learned so much about myself and what I’m capable of. I’ve climbed mountains only to find the roses at the top, waiting all this time for me to find it. There is beauty to be found within the rocks, there is light to be found within the dark. It’s all about balance. While on my journey, I find joy in engaging in my passions, my writing and painting, despite or because of the difficulties that I experience. 🌟 I will work on tattooing my words upon the screen and my paints upon the canvas, trying to find the beauty where there was none before within a sea of white. I’ve had so much growth thrust upon me, but now it’s my time to bloom. 🌹🌹🌹🌹The redesign of the 4 of Roses is coming along. This is the initial drawing that will be traced at a light table for crisp lines for watercolor and gouache. I’ll post the entire process as it happens. WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS OUTSIDER SHOULD BE CALLED? ⁠ ⁠ I’m leaning toward <> because the drawing is clearly based on drag artist and performance artist LEIGH BOWERY, but I still want this card to carry a little bit of GERTRUDE STEIN energy with the very poetic notion that a rose is a rose is a rose, no matter what form it takes. I imagine this is the first time that the “rose” will be “red” as a wig on a tarot card. Sun in Virgo realness!⁠ ⁠ Also thinking of adding “IS-A” earrings for extra effect. I want to improve the 3 of Eyes before publishing the Outsider Tarot next year. This is a resistance card but it doesn’t quite work for most individual readings. The upraised fist is too statuesque and facing the wrong direction. The third eye tattoo on the wrist is a bit too hidden under the yellow handkerchief. Lastly, this is a card of MARS in LEO, which indicates an aggressive push for 1:1 equality & justice. This redesign corrects these problems, more human fists with mars-arrow tattoos are raised in resistance against three big-brother eyeball cameras, which are more creepy & organic.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Over the years I developed a very specific process for creating cards. New designs begin as a loose sketch that are traced into fine line drawings on a light box. This isn’t revolutionary. This morning, I asked the cards “How can I embrace self love today?” I drew The Sun, the 2 of Bottles and the 8 of Lights from the Outsider Tarot. ✨ I often have setbacks with my self esteem. Last night, while looking at a picture of myself that I had taken, I picked apart all the things I did not like about myself and changed the picture to a different one. My husband said that I am too hard on myself and I agreed. I changed it back. 🎇 I’m being asked to look at the joy of being me, to really enjoy the journey as I head towards the light and happiness that I bring others but also to myself. There is light within me that shines outwards and I have to shine on myself, too. Life is a journey and there is always light that shines from me. ⭐ I should also remember the love that I have around me. The other people in my life love me not because of what I look like, but because of who I am. I have to protect that part of myself that holds the spark of love and self love and know that I’m worthy of it.
