soooo turns out i have condylar resorption, a severe degenerative joint disease that causes gradual bone loss of the mandibular condyles (the bones that are part of the jaw joints, aka the TMJs). this has probably been going on i was a kid but went diagnosed all this time. my symptoms like functional issues, pain, etc. were repeatedly dismissed by doctors my whole life. the pain and dysfunction is increasing more and more by the day.
it's a progressive disease, and nothing can stop it or slow it down until the joints are completely eaten away. the only solution to prevent further bone loss and restore function is a total temporomandibular joint replacement, where the two diseased joints that literally hold my face together are removed and permanently replaced with metal prostheses. aka a major surgery with a 6-12 month recovery 😃
i'm in really bad shape this morning, pain is really bad, got stuck getting out of bed (though i did manage it in the end), doing anything hurts so bad, about on par with the initial herniation 5 years ago.
mom's a little worried i might've herniated it again. ugh
This is going to sound bonkers but if any of you artists need real pictures of organs or tissues for reference, let me know. I can take photos next time I'm in surgery.
the gave a good chance in promoting louis and his tour through documentary so let’s see what they will do. i don’t have high expectations tho lol
The docu might be pushed back now (and it should, to include the Number 1).
It should now follow the December promo, just a few weeks away. We should expect Louis to still have a splint on and not be able to sign too many albums. Please be understanding ❤️. He needs this arm to heal properly.
So I'm making progress on my comic script for Numskull's backstory that I eluded to not too long ago. I have two of the five Acts (aka chapters) already written, and I'm currently chipping away at the 3rd. Not sure if my shoulder is going to allow me to work on sketches at all to visually plan things, but at least I'm making progress on the story \o/.
Had my ortho follow up last week, and it was kind of a useless appt. Dr. Basically squeezed my hand twice, asked what I wanted to do about the cyst ("I want it to go away!"), and sent me on my way. The only good thing to come out of it is that he scheduled an mri, which I had today.
Well folks, it's appears that it's not a ganglion cyst at all.
It's either an enchondroma (cyst of the cartilage between bones) or a bone cyst. Basically a benign tumor either way.
Bone cysts are more often seen in kids. After reading up on all the possibilities, my non medical option is that 'aneurysmal bone cyst' sounds most likely, because it showed up basically overnight and has been helped with ultrasound therapy.
Now I guess I just have to wait until the ortho gets back to me on my telemed appt (the 18th!) and see what he says.
But golly gee, wouldn't it have been cool to have done this test like 2 months ago? Or to have done a biopsy when he did the aspiration? (I'm assuming that might have showed some difference anyway)
At least the mri wasn't difficult, the scrubs were surprisingly comfy and I learned that mri machines make a sick techno beat when on standby.
